Di batter Erfarung vum Jimmy Martin mam ESC 2024 an d'Europapolitik dominéieren haut an der Presse.
From soft diplomacy to block voting, Luxembourg's last entrant in 1993 to Tali, this show is full of Eurovision fun & folklore before the big day in May! Eurovision! We're almost there! Eurovision 2024 will take place in Malmö, Sweden, on 11 May with semi-finals on 7 and 9 May. It is the third time that Malmö has hosted the Eurovision Song Contest following 1992 and 2013 editions, and the seventh for Sweden. It's happening in Sweden of course because of Loreen's win in Liverpool in 2023. Tali Golergant, the artist representing Luxembourg, will be performing in the first of the two semi-finals. The ‘big five' (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK) are pre-qualified for the Grand Final. The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is the single biggest event to bring Europeans (and a global audience) together. It was even sponsored by the European Commission for some time. More people vote in this competition than the European elections. It is a strong tool of cultural diplomacy. Dr. Dean Vuletic has given the Eurovision Song Contest deep academic analysis. He designed the world's first university course on Eurovision, which he taught at New York University. Whilst a researcher at the University of Vienna, he researched and wrote the first-ever scholarly book on the history of Eurovision, Postwar Europe and the Eurovision Song Contest. He currently teaches at the University of Luxembourg, amongst other roles. You can find Dean's commentaries, interviews and op-eds across global media. Dr. Vuletic can also be seen featured in films such as ‘When Franco Stole Eurovision' and ‘Eurovision: Secrets and Scandals', amongst others. The competition has been in existence since 1956, and Luxembourg will be taking part for the first time since 1993 when Jimmy Martin performed. Jimmy talks about performing in Millstreet, County Cork, and the changes to Eurovision since that time. Jimmy was already an established rock musician before Eurovision and has continued to make that his career. The BBC used the phrase ‘United by Music' and that's now been taken as an official slogan for the contest going forward. The Eurovision Lights serve as the theme art which is meant to conceptualise the northern lights and sound equalizers. And 37 public broadcasters will be present. Eric Lehmann is Head of the Luxembourgish Delegation and has attended the ESC since 1998. Eric talks about building the necessary team to support Luxembourg's re-entry to the Eurovision Song Contest, and the pre-selection process through the Luxembourg Song Contest. Part of the team Eric had to build around Tali includes hair & make-up. And in that position is the very talented Luca de Michèle who has worked on many fashion shows around the world. Roger Saurfeld has attended Eurovision since 2000 and is one of the organisers for the Eurovision Previews such as that in Bissen on 19 April where all the Luxembourg Song Contest candidates will perform their entries with money donated to the LUkraine asbl. Rafaela Teixeira, or Rafa Ela, one of the eight finalists of the Luxembourg Song Contest, talks about the family built through the competition process and her own music writing as a form of connection with others and to her own life experiences. Let us know your thoughts on all things Eurovision! Will you be watching? Who's your first choice? Do you believe Eurovision can be a cultural force for political good? THE KODY NORRIS SHOW is one the finest and most entertaining bands in the world of bluegrass just won the SPBGMA ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR as well as the INSTRUMENTAL GROUP OF THE YEAR awards. The band has crafted a performance style that harkens back to Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, the Stanley Brothers, and the Grand Ole Opry … with a bit of Vaudeville thrown in. Always clad in colorful, tailored suits, hats and ornate boots, the band earns its moniker as a “show.” Top notch picking is center stage, but humor and flash are part of the package.WONKY TONK is Kentucky's musical version of hard cider folksinger with a dash of Loretta Lynn, John Prine, Lucinda Williams and Guy Clark. Wonky Tonk was born Jasmine Poole in Cincinnati, but grew up in Northern Kentucky. The story behind her stage name is long and complicated but involves a high school project, a late-night hang-out with friends at Waffle House, and, ultimately, the acquisition of a banjo. Find out the rest of that story on the WoodSongs broadcast. WoodSongs Kid: Alex Davis is a 10 year old banjo picker from Manchester, TN.

I've gotten to chat with Brrrn co-founders Johnny Adamic and Jimmy Martin a few times since meeting them in 2018. I'd like to remind you that 2018 was a time before the proliferation of zoom, so our first interview was conducted via freeconferencecall.com. I remember vividly chatting with the pair in 2018. They were equal parts entertaining and excited about a super-specific niche in fitness (cold temperature training). I have a memory of the thought, “it's a shame that I'm the only one listening to this recording” as I wrote the article for aSweatLife.com.Call this take two. I genuinely like these guys. I looked forward to this interview for the past couple of days because I knew it would be a really good time. And I really like every person who comes onto the podcast, but some people make me nervous in a way that Jimmy and Johnny do not. They're a mix of charming, smart and funny that you know endears people to them. And I think that is the essence of the brand they've created. Charming, welcoming and smart. You'll hear them talk about it on the episode, but they're an insanely perfect match for where the world went after they opened their studio in the heart of New York City. Jimmy worked with SNL and studied at the Upright Citizens Brigade - or UCB as it's called in the biz - and cut his teeth on production before the world shut down. He also has that improv-er ability to problem solve through the “yes, and.” They both have it, actually, you'll hear Johnny say, “To yes, and that, Jimmy …”And Johnny studied public health in New York City and worked for Mayor Bloomberg. He can and will throw science at you in an approachable way. So together, they chose to create cold training spaces when the rest of the world was only counting workouts that got them as hot and sweaty as humanly possible. And it was there that they fell in love with training on a slide board and there that they started manifesting their future partner and investor, Apolo Ohno.So when the pandemic hit, I don't want to undervalue the stress they went through, but they accepted it, and built on what was in front of them. They “yes, and” ed the pandemic and build an ecommerce business after finding a US-based partner to manufacture an at-home version of the slide board. And there's a lot to love about Brrrn besides the guys who created it, including their growing list of studios and gyms where you can find their programming as well as certifications for trainers to get Continuing education Credits. We hardly even scratched the surface.Resources:Learn more about training at home with BrrrnSee the Brrrn Board in action (youTube video)Follow @brrrn on InstagramFollow @JohnnyAdamic on InstagramFollow @JimmyTMartin (the quadfather) on InstagramThe first time Jimmy and Johhny were on aSweatLifeA brief introduction to Lateral training by Shape.comThe Study on Cold plunges they reference by Huberman Find the Brrrn Bundle on our Move Holiday Gift GuideJust for fun: The movie we talk about - Nobody, starring Bob OdenkirkJust for fun: the actress I adoringly talk about, D'Arcy Carden
Before 1994, lower Broadway in Nashville had long since kissed its glory days goodbye and was instead the province of peep shows and petty crime. But 1994 was the year that Greg Garing, young but already a veteran musician who'd played with legends like Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, John Hartford and many more, emerged at the forefront of a band of insurgent musicians who were out to reclaim the lost soul of classic Nashville country music. Staking out the back room at Tootsie's, Greg proceeded to launch a live music revolution that included fellow travellers BR-549 and others, and soon the crowds were flocking to lower Broadway once again. Of course, no one could imagine that it would turn into what it has now become. Nevertheless, GREG GARING is a Nashville underground legend who is internationally respected, and counts people like Lucinda Williams, Marianne Faithful and Shane MacGowan as fans. Come see why Johnny Cash said of him, "He's the best country singer I've heard in 30 years." This weekend on Tent Show Radio, savor the return of legendary country-rock group Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, with a look back on their 2021 performance at Big Top Chautauqua. This episode features performances of Bob Dylan's “You Ain't Going Nowhere,” “Buy For Me The Rain,” Bob Dylan's “You Ain't Going Nowhere,” John Prine's “Grandpa Was A Carpenter,” “Fishin' In The Dark,” and “Mr. Bojangles.” Originally founded in 1965 as a small jug band, by 1969 Nitty Gritty Dirt Band had become a cornerstone of the burgeoning country-rock music scene. Their career breakthrough came in 1970 with the release of their album Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy, which saw the band embrace a straight, traditional country and bluegrass sound. The album included one of the band's best-known hits, a cover version of Jerry Jeff Walker's “Mr. Bojangles” which spent 36 weeks on the charts and rose to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1971. The following year, the band released their 7th studio album, the critically acclaimed, Grammy-nominated, and certified platinum Will The Circle Be Unbroken. The record featured collaborations with numerous country, folk, and bluegrass legends like Earl Scruggs, Mother Maybelle Carter, Roy Acuff, Jimmy Martin, Doc Watson, and others. The critically acclaimed project has since been revered as a landmark recording in American music. Other notable hits include, “Am American Dream,” “Make a Little Magic,” Billboard No. 1 hit “Long Hard Road (The Share Cropper's Dream),” Billboard No.1 hit “Modern Day Romance,” and Certified Platinum Billboard No. 1 hit “Fishin' In the Dark.” In 2015, the group acknowledged their incredible history by filming a 50th-anniversary concert at the Ryman Auditorium, which later aired on PBS, that included appearances from many special guests including John Prine, Jackson Browne, Vince Gill, and many more. The band continues touring and since 2018 operates as a six-piece ensemble that includes Jeff Hanna (guitar & lead vocals), Jimmie Fadden (drums), Bob Carpenter (keyboards), Jim Photoglo (bass, guitar), Ross Holmes (fiddle & mandolin), and Jaime Hanna (guitar.) With a refreshed lineup and newfound energy, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band remains one of the most accomplished bands in American roots music.

We'll be diving into the moonshine incident and give some backing for why people said they were “rough men” – you're going to hear about some fighting and gun play, so if you're sensitive to such talk – be advised - but if you want a small picture into the American south, these guys deliver. These men were connected to the land and it shaped their identity. Host Clay Newcomb, having known them his whole life, Is unashamed by how much he liked these guys, but conflicted because he disagreed with some stuff they did. Life is a paradox and linear equations built for judgement don't always add up. This episode is a sketch of two modern colorful characters. Their lives were just straight up entertaining and intriguing, we doubt you're gunna want to miss it….Hey, and if you'll stick around the very end…You'll hear Clay and game warden Jimmy Martin relive a run in they had when Clay was 16 years old.
