Australia is a big continent and sparsely populated continent. 28 percent of Australians live in areas classified regional, rural or remote and their access to health services is much more limited. It's estimated that between 2009 and 2011 there were 19,000 excess deaths in regional and remote areas as compared to the major cities. No doubt, socioeconomic disadvantage is factor in that mortality gap, but inequitable access to healthcare is also a major driver. In this podcast we focus specifically on the shortage in health practitioners in the regions. Even in regional centres, the density of physicians by population count is two thirds what it is in the major cities. By the time you get to large rural towns it's just over a third that baseline. In this podcast we discuss opportunities to lift recruitment and retention. This means improving the experience for trainees and the esteem for rural medicine in the eyes of the profession at large.GuestsAdjunct Professor Graeme Maguire PhD FRACP MHM MPHTM (President Adult Medicine Division, RACP and Director of Medical Education, WA Country Health Service)Dr Sarah Straw FRACP (WACHS Kimberley Regional Physician Team; Northern Hospital, Melb; Rural, Regional and Remote Working Group, RACP)Associate Professor Matthew McGrail PhD (Head Regional Training Hub Research, University of Queensland)ProductionProduced by Mic Cavazzini DPhil. It's a big ol' world out there divided up with imaginary boundaries that people call countries. Perhaps the country of your birth is not the place that you would intend to also call the country of your death, so you want to relocate, but where? Doug Casey is the author of many books and the founder of International Man. He has been to most of the countries on this planet, has lived in 10 of them, and has investments in many more. His company helps people to find the right place to plant their flags of residence, and in doing so, helps them to escape the confines of their current governmental situation. Those that have purchased “The Controlled Demolition of the American Empire” will recognize Doug Casey as the author of the foreword of the book, and after listening to this interview most people will understand why he was the perfect choice. New Series: It's in the Code American Christians speak in a bewildering array of different “codes” that mark their identities, signaling to others who is welcome among them and who isn't. This series explores how to decode popular religious language, revealing the cultural politics of American Christians of different stripes. What does the slogan on the that church billboard mean? How can we tell which churches value social justice, or are LGBTQ+ inclusive? Learning how to decipher the codes of American Christianity can tell us. This first episode outlines the aims of the new series, which will explore that ways that different kinds of American Christians express their identities through the language they use in sermons, in denominational statements, on church billboards, and other common expressions. He argues that the significance of what American Christians say is not limited to the literal meaning of their words, but with how they use that language to define themselves and others. The episode highlights the value of the series for anyone who wants to better understand and map the complex terrain of American Christian identities. The current conflict in Ukraine is a perfect example of planting flags vs. planting seeds (aka domination vs. inspiration). This episode uses real examples to describe the severely negative impact of domination-based leadership vs. the hugely healthy and transformative effect of focusing on inspiration. We cover the impact on self-worth, creativity, and what helps us comfortably take risks to push out of our comfort zone and achieve the next level of ourselves. Share this episode to spread the word about the powerful example that the people of Ukraine are setting in their fight against Russia. British Explorer and Naturalist Dwayne Fields says that accomplishments of exploration are "not about planting flags, it's about planting seeds". When something is achieved or "conquered", we often subconsciously fall in line and settle for how someone else achieved it. But if we think about achievements as inspiration for pushing ourselves outside of our comfort zone, we can inspire others - just through our small daily accomplishments - to consider what they might be capable of and what might be possible in their lives. In this Episode we see the various facades of King Leopold II's philanthropy as he jostles to claim the central African lands he has just become aware of. He maintains a three prong strategy: escalating aggressiveness in the Congo, appeasement of the European powers and an image of benevolence to the United States. Tensions lead to the 1885 Berlin Conference and Leopold positions himself as the benign and neutral power in the Congo...

Racism is a system of advantage based on race and supported by institutions, policies and practices that benefit dominant groups and disadvantage subdominant groups. It is a social expression of power and privilege. Today on Muse, we discuss systemic racism, what that REALLY looks like, and how it is reflected in the purple fandom. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/muse2thepharaoh/support
There’s a common trope that Prince “transcended race” which is a tricky concept, mostly due to the fact that “race” is not something that can be overcome. Today Darling Nisi and guest Erica Thompson focus on the context of Prince as a Black man in America and how that may have influenced his decisions as an artist as he moved in his career. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/muse2thepharaoh/support

This week we talk about Oklahoma laying an egg at home and Iowa State laying their flag in the turf after the game. We also talk about other games from last weekend as well as preview for week 7. The Coin makes a bit longer appearance this week to put in retroactive picks from the […]
The guys are overreacting to everything in week 1 of the NFL season. Everything from on the field to sideline reporting gets looked at analyzed and overreacted to. Don't worry though, they also look at the games that are the most intriguing coming up in Week 2 and actually give some impressive insight. Then the talk is taken to the college domain where Baker Mayfield has planted himself and the Oklahoma flag into the top 4 of the college football rankings. Along with discussing the other big games of the past week, as well as the big matchup this week where #3 Clemson will take on Lamar Jackson and #15 Louisville. Playoffs? Did someone say playoffs? We did, because it is the Hunt for October in the MLB. Teams are streaking in both directions( Dodgers/Indians), while some are still fighting to keep their division lead (Red Sox/Cubs). James also wonders...out loud, if streaking really matters at this point in the season or at all. Finally, we wrap it all up in a nice little rant about the US Mens National Soccer team. That's right folks we talk the other futbol as well. By the way thanks for the rant, friend and longtime follower of the show Alexi Lalas. That's it this week, make sure to check us out and rate us on Itunes. Leave a comment with your stance on sports!
