What is the allegory of "Plato's Cave"? How does it explore the archetypal pattern of becoming conscious? What are the social repercussions of speaking truth, shining light, and forcing others to see their own shadow? https://www.goldenshadow.org/
A philosophical education can feel like a long and arduous path. Sometimes you think you have seen the light; you think that you have knowledge, only to discover you knew nothing. It is times like this where the learner must examine their blind spots and begin their path to understanding once again while accepting that the next attempt might too end where it began. The philosopher Plato likened this path to the ascent from a dark cave up into the light of the sun. He also said that those who have seen the illuminated world above have a responsibility to go back to show others the way. Today we go back, not because we have seen the sun, but because we have travelled the path enough to know we can do a little better than we did before. The blind leading the blind? Perhaps, but we might stumble into something interesting along the way. With special thanks to the following creators for their sound samples. Thought I'd switch it up and take a stab at presenting the allegory of Plato's Cave. Hope you enjoy it...a foundation in philosophy and logic can help us keep our footing as the muppets around us get swept up and away into their dystopian techno-hell.
Glad to be where I'm at making this episode for yall. I start with a perfect random Bible read for the times we are in. I follow a perfect Bible read with a great cocktail... Blood & Sand. Hey guys... don't be afraid of losing your manhood ordering this one, you'll still have your balls as the peated blended Scotch is the testosterone to this drink! Proposition 16 in Commifornia fails as it pertains to " Affirmative Action" for getting accepted to "Higher Learning" institutions and for getting hired into companies for work. People being purged out of social media outlets are finding other platforms to spread their messages as being a Free-Thinker pays off. I give my thoughts on the so called, "Presidential Election" with all this mush I have inside my head. Lastly, I stress the importance for having a relationship with Christ as we are in difficult times and heading into more problems. TONIGHT'S RANDOM BIBLE READ- THE BOOK OF EZEKIEL CHAPTER 34, VERSES 23-28: A COVENANT OF PEACE. TONIGHT'S DRINK: BLOOD & SAND. INGREDIENTS: 1 OZ BLENDED PEATED SCOTCH, 1 OZ FRESH SQUEEZED ORANGE JUICE, 0.75 OZ CHERRY LIQUIOR, 0.75 SWEET VERMOUTH, PINCHED ORANGE PEEL OVER FIRE THEN ADDED AS YOUR GARNISH. First... in the first three minutes I learned what audio latency is. I'm working on that. Sorry. Next... if you would like to support me on Patreon, here's the link: https://www.patreon.com/Freds_Front_Porch?fan_landing=true I'm going to suggest that we are like the prisoners in Plato's Cave. We see only what we believe we are supposed to see. I'm going to show you a different world, created by Imagination and Belief. We can do better than we're doing now. Let's see how that can be done. However our conversation does not end there as we discuss a wide range of topics. This is definitely an episode I will revisit. In my first conversation with Johannes we talked about his journey leaving the academy and participating in the new philosophical emergence with the founding of the Halykon Guild. We considered why philosophy lacks standing today and the re-appearance of questions of being and stillness. Lastly we riffed on Nietzsche's death of God and how we have 'swallowed the ocean' and wiped away the horizon of man. As accompaniment to the conversation see Johannes' powerful reading of 'Death of God' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRM-c... Johannes Niederhauser is a philosopher from Germany who recently completed a PhD entitled 'Heidegger on Death and Being' at Warwick University. He is the founder of the Halykon Guild and runs the Classical Philosophy Youtube Channel where he is re-enlivening philosophy from Socrates to Nietzsche in the public domain. Find more from his Channel and enquire about joining his online courses: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDsQ... Plato tells a strange story about strange people -- who are like us. This allegory is the most important reading of this podcast, and indeed of all philosophy. This episode recounts it, providing a line-by-line commentary. Recommended Readings: Plato’s Republic Book 7 (514a - 521b): http://bit.ly/2SaFCyJ https://amzn.to/3bjpd2j

This world, this material reality before us, is like a cave. It's not an illusion. It's real, but it is not ultimately real. There is something above and beyond it.
