A federal judge just blocked Alberta's independence referendum from going on the ballot in October, ruling that the citizen-led petition — which gathered 300,000 signatures in four months — should have consulted First Nations first. Vance sits down with Dustin Newman, an Alberta oil company owner who helped collect those signatures and was active in the Wild Rose party, to figure out what just happened and what it means. Dustin walks through why the movement exists in the first place: a centralized federal system where Ontario and Quebec decide every election, billions of dollars in equalization payments flowing out of Alberta each year, a West Coast tanker ban that forces Alberta to sell its oil to the U.S. at a discount, and pipeline rules so cumbersome that no one will build them. He and Vance get into the history that shaped Alberta's independent streak — homesteaders surviving 40-below winters in sod houses, the trucker convoy, the COVID-era fights that toppled premiers — and the deeper structural pieces most Americans miss, like how First Nations treaties, mineral rights, and the Clarity Act actually work in Canada. They close on what comes next. Premier Danielle Smith can still put the independence question on the October ballot if she chooses, and Dustin argues she may have to: 60% of UCP members back independence, and she could face a leadership vote if she stalls. Polling sits around 30–40% in favor today, but a referendum win would force Canada into a negotiation it has never had to seriously consider — one Dustin believes could go peacefully, or could go the way the American colonies did.

Up first, we will try to make sense of the blockade that's either working or not happening and the war that's either over or just beginning. Separation of Glowers. Take Back Alberta believes that it has more than enough signatures to finally put the question of separation before the voters in the Wild Rose province, but it's not that easy. David Parker, one of the leaders of the movement, is being accused of having inappropriate access to Elections Alberta's list of electors, and there's also reports of interference being stoked from the U.S. and Russia, so can we have a good, decent debate on this without the skullduggery? Summer in the City Hall. The 2026 municipal election is now underway, but that doesn't mean that our current city council isn't putting out any new hits. This week, we will be joined by Ward 3 City Councillor Michele Richardson, who has already announced her retirement, to talk about some the latest business at city hall including construction complaints, fiscal pressures, traffic calming questions, and the upcoming receipt of the renoviction bylaw and vacant home tax. Jessie Buckley is an actor and singer. She recently won a BAFTA and a Golden Globe Award for her critically acclaimed role playing Shakespeare's wife Agnes in Chloé Zhao's film Hamnet. Her performance has also garnered her an Academy Award nomination.Jessie won an Olivier Award for her portrayal of Sally Bowles in a 2021 West End revival of Cabaret. Her breakout film role came in 2018 when she played an aspiring country music singer in the musical Wild Rose.Jessie was born in Killarney in County Kerry to creative parents. Her mother trained as a singer and harpist and her father, who ran a guest house when she was growing up, writes poetry. As a child Jessie and her siblings put on Irish dancing performances for people who stayed in the guest house.In 2008 she appeared in the BBC talent show I'd Do Anything – the televised search to find a Nancy for a West End production of Oliver! Jessie came second in the competition and afterwards Sir Cameron Mackintosh, one of the judges, sent her on a Shakespeare workshop at RADA which she says changed her life.She made her professional stage debut as Anne Egerman in the 2008/2009 revival of Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music at London's Menier Chocolate Factory. In 2010 she stepped away from professional work and enrolled at RADA where she studied for three years.After graduating she performed on stage, screen and television. She received her first Oscar nomination playing opposite Olivia Colman in the 2021 film the Lost Daughter. Der Marmorierte Rosenkäfer ist ein prächtiger, glänzendgrüner und grosser Käfer. Er legt seine Eier in Komposterde, seine dicken Engerlinge werden aber leider oft als Schädlinge betrachtet. Doch sie fressen nur verrottende Erde und abgestorbene Pflanzenteile. Die über 30 heimischen Wildrosenarten eignen sich alle für den Garten – die Zimtrose und die Essigrose sogar für den Topf. Die Hundsrose vermag, 4 bis 5 Meter an der Hauswand emporzuklettern und die Feldrose verwandelt einen Zaun in eine zartweisse Blütenwolke. Zudem sind ihre Hagebutten bei verschiedenen Vögeln beliebt.
