Reckless Grace with Pastor Bill Vanderbush (Episode 149) In this episode of Genuine Life Recovery, I'm joined by Bill Vanderbush, pastor and author of Reckless Grace; the Gift. The Mystery. The Embrace., to discuss the radical impact of grace and forgiveness in the journey of mental health and recovery. True recovery isn't just about overcoming addiction or trauma, but finding our true identity in Christ. As Jesus restores God's image in us, we begin to live authentically, free from shame, guilt, and the masks we once wore. We also talk forgiveness and how it plays a central role in our restoration. Whether it's forgiving others or forgiving ourselves, the power of grace transforms our recovery journey. Bill explains that we cannot forgive or heal in our own strength; it's through surrender to God's 'reckless grace' that we find lasting healing. Learn how grace allows us to release resentment—a root cause of relapse—and experience the freedom that comes from letting go of the need for earthly justice. This episode is a powerful reminder that grace, identity, and forgiveness are essential to living a life of recovery, mental health, and peace.

Is shame driving you or are you living your life, set free from it? Hello — and welcome to the BE ENCOURAGED! Podcast! You are listening to episode # 116 with guest speaker Whitney Roehl. Whitney is the author of a book called “Reckless Grace”. A book that unravels what the pit of shame has done in her real life and how she has overcome her past, the experiences she's faced, and the trauma from how she was raised. Now, as she raises her family with her husband Jake, she is bound to help others and set them free from walking in shame and align with all the adventure and purpose God has for you through her coaching business. (For those interested in the book or coaching business I will leave that info in the show notes). On today's episode, Whitney challenges us all to take a moment to pause and reflect on these questions. Is shame driving your thoughts and actions? How does God view you? How do you view yourself? How can I serve others? (not only look for ways to be served.) In addition, she encourages us to PRAY! Send the invitation out and call on the Holy Spirit to increase our desire for more of Jesus in our lives. (in our marriage, in our relationships with our children, with our coworkers, at work, in our quiet time to hear from God.) Also check out Galatians 2:20, Acts 2, John 15, and Psalms 46:10 come to mind if you want to dive deeper after listening to our sweet conversation that will surely help encourage you onward! Today, my hope is that you listen in and know that you have been set free from shame, Jesus knows your name, break down the strongholds of your past, and let the new adventure begin! So grab your cup of coffee, get on your walk or run, and wherever you are BE ENCOURAGED! Have you ever wondered how God thinks of you? Or whether his thoughts about us change depending on our behavior or attitude? In this series, we'll be having a heart-to-heart—but not with each other. We'll be taking a look at the heart of God toward his people, told through one of Jesus' parables. Reckless Grace Podcast 10 - The Voice Of God And The Village Idiot by Bill Vanderbush
A successful relationship with God is something that alludes many of us. Far too often we find ourselves slipping away from God, struggling to hear him, and hiding away from him due to our own shame. God wants nothing more than for us to have a successful relationship with him, and overcoming our past and our shame is one of the key steps to building that successful relationship. This week I am honored to be joined by Whitney Roehl - Co-Founder of Steadfast Life Coaching and author of Reckless Grace. In our conversation - Whitney talks about the power of overcoming the struggles of her own past - a difficult relationship with her father, bad relationships with men, negative thoughts, and the shame that came from all of those experiences. We should never be ashamed of our past. Our shame should never hold us back from achieving success.Buy Reckless Grace now: https://www.amazon.com/Reckless-Grace-Journey-Freedom-Brokenness/dp/B0C47YLG11Whitney's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/whitroehl/Timestamps:0:00 - Intro 1:20 - Shame From Relationship With Her Father4:42 - Hatred Vs. Ahh, glorious mutilation. Today we look at the verses that deal with hacking, slashing, chopping, and cutting off of the flesh for religious glory. If you have fasted yourself into a health crisis, you probably weren't listening to God. Nice effort, but your kids would probably rather have a live dad rather than a dead disciple. If you've put a porn filter on your computer, good job. Doesn't help your imagination (or your cell phone) though, does it? The law of freedom from the sin of separation is the new covenant which is the Spirit of life in Christ, so here we go again with part 6. You're a three second scroller you say? You don't do series you say? You don't have time you say? I say, slow down. Spend some time soaking in this series.......more than once. It could change your life, refresh your union with Christ, and put a smile of genuine joy back on your face, to stay. Is 2000 years of God's grace about to come to an end? Is God finally about to drop the hammer of judgment on all the people you don't like? Has he overlooked our ignorant rebellion all this time only to finally get fed up now and cut us down like a man attackes his lawn with a weed eater on a Saturday morning? Listen to some people and you just might think so. In this podcast we explore a moment in the life of Peter that changed his whole perspective on how he viewed humanity through the veil of Christ. As a friend of mine once said, "If the blood of a goat could forgive the sins of a nation for a whole year, then what did the blood of the Son of God do?" The Bible is a record of the nature of the relationship between God and humanity, and we relate to God by His Spirit and the terms of that relationshiop are understood by covenants. Do you know which one we're under now? Do you know why the current covenant is called the better covenant? Do you know why the new one will never be broken? Do you know why the old covenants are no longer valid? You should. It matters more than you can imagine. Just because God gave man the law, don't think that defines him as a lawyer. When there's a barrier between people, any connection needs to be spelled out in rules of engagement. Yet in the new covenant we have life, liberty, and love as the pulsing heartbeat that is the uniting rhythm of this temple. There's a mystery to be embraced about the rules of engagement that's every bit as magnificent as the majesty of his word. To lean in to understand this will enroll you in a school that will empower you in the....let's say it like this...new rules of engagement. The blood and violence that defined the old temple is now replaced by the glorious inheritance that all of that blood and violence paid for. So why do we love the blood and violence so much more than the grace it paid for? Step into part 2 of this study into the new covenant with Bill Vanderbush. As we saw last week, following Jesus is the narrow pathway. It requires carrying a cross and renouncing our life. But, the King is worth it. He is the King who offers us Sonship, the inheritance the kingdom, and most importantly, His love. In Luke 15 Jesus rebukes but also encourages us with three parables of something lost, something found, and great rejoicing. This gospel is so countercultural and so beautiful!

The scandal of grace is that your enemies become innocent and the Father welcomes them to belong to your family. Just how good do we believe Christ is? Whatever you believe, he's better.
