Christina Dent, founder of End It For Good, Author - Curious, shares her journey of understanding addiction and advocating for a new approach to drug policy. She recounts her experience as a foster parent and meeting a mother struggling with addiction, which challenged her preconceived notions. This led her to question the effectiveness of the criminal justice system in addressing drug use and to explore alternative solutions. She discusses the Rat Park experiment and the importance of addressing the underlying reasons for substance use. Christina emphasizes the need for personalized pathways to recovery and a shift away from a one-size-fits-all approach. The illegal drug economy, fueled by drug prohibition, incentivizes crime and violence by providing a financial incentive. Gangs, cartels, and terrorist organizations are primarily funded through the proceeds of the drug trade. Prohibition also leads to the production of unregulated and dangerous drugs, such as fentanyl, which has contributed to the overdose crisis. The current approach to drug policy is reactive and fear-based, and it is important to shift towards a health-centered approach that addresses the root causes of addiction. Regular people can lead the charge for change and create a movement towards policy reform. In this conversation, Gio Munoz discusses the impact of the IHOP controversy on his leadership and the prayer movement. He emphasizes the importance of accountability and the need to prevent similar situations in the future. Gio also shares his perspective on the strategic nature of the devil's attacks and the lessons learned from the situation. The conversation highlights the significance of inner healing and the connection between healing and repentance. Additionally, Gio emphasizes the importance of creating an environment of vulnerability and transparency in leadership. The conversation concludes with a discussion on future plans for Abide and the focus on prayer and mission. Takeaways: Authentic confession and vulnerability are essential in the recovery journey and in the church. Leaving a recovery program can be challenging, and finding a supportive community is crucial. Leadership requires humility and a willingness to set aside personal ambitions for the sake of others. Building authentic community and valuing every member's contribution is vital in the church. A reputation for being a house of prayer and worship can be a powerful testimony to the community. Leaders should be mindful of the impact of controversies in their field and take steps to address any concerns or misconceptions. Accountability and transparency are crucial in preventing moral failures and maintaining the purity of a ministry. The devil strategically targets leaders and movements, and it is important to remain vigilant and rely on God's grace. Inner healing is essential for true repentance and transformation, and leaders should prioritize addressing the root causes of their behaviors. Creating an environment of vulnerability and openness allows for deeper healing and growth in individuals and the community. Future plans should focus on prayer, mission, and expanding the ministry to reach more people. Laurie also discussed her new book that will be coming out tomorrow  September 19th, 2023, "Navigating  The Storm Within: Cultivating Resilience and Growth through Nervous System Regulation."   Laurie teaches empowerment, especially for those who have been victimized again by the court system it's a re-traumatization. We discussed the book, "Truth and Repair: How Trauma Survivors Envision Justice." It talks a lot about the repair and part of the repair is to be seen and heard. The cases are so surreal and unbelievable you can't comprehend unless you have been through something similar. If there is healing available it's not going to be how you think it is.     We also discussed my new book, Raised By These Wolves, How Family And Federal Courts Are Failing Our Children. The documentation of parents and their stories in a way is a form of justice. "We have been taught that the justice system is a safe place for people who have been harmed and that is a hard myth to break," Laurie states.     This has nothing to do with justice, it is has to do with a winner and a loser. It is not set up to repair. The courts are running cases in 30 minutes or less.  We discussed the history of the courts and what the intention and the purpose is it becomes clearer how more of us are victimized over and over again. We also discussed the book, "The End of Family Court: How Abolishing the Court Brings Justice To Children And Families."     Where is the justice?  "Most of us are victims before we get to the court. As a victim to have the understanding that this isn't about me being seen or of not being heard, this is about what is best for the system and the judge and this has nothing to do with what's right for my kid or not. Because we didn't set it up that way. Until we know this we will blame ourselves or feel helpless," Laurie states. To Reach Laurie Smith:  lsmith@resiliencecoachllc.comhttps://linktr.ee/cloudedcompass  - 4 F's that are F'ing up your day; 4 Point Path to Possibility; Uncovery (a 12 week course for trauma healing); Books: LifeHacks: Tips and Tricks for Accessing Your Inner Resilience and Navigating the Storm Within: Cultivating Resilience and Growth through Nervous System Regulation.Books discussed: Laurie's new book: https://www.canva.com/design/DAFsIVdeEXo/v0yMstswk7mmohce5Qm73Q/view?utm_content=DAFsIVdeEXo&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link&utm_source=publishsharelinkThe End of Family Court: How Abolishing the Court Brings Justice to Children and Families  https://amzn.to/44ZxPprTruth and Repair: How Trauma Survivors Envision Justicehttps://amzn.to/3Zlehuq Confronting the Racist Legacy of the American Child Welfare System: The Case for Abolitionhttps://amzn.to/3PJHrAqThis episode of Slam the Gavel is sponsored by CPSprotect Consulting Services. To Reach Laurie Smith:  lsmith@resiliencecoachllc.comhttps://linktr.ee/cloudedcompass  - 4 F's that are F'ing up your day; 4 Point Path to Possibility; Uncovery (a 12 week course for trauma healing); Books: LifeHacks: Tips and Tricks for Accessing Your Inner Resilience and Navigating the Storm Within: Cultivating Resilience and Growth through Nervous System Regulation. TW: eating disorders and sexual abuse. Today, Lauren Sheehey joins us on the CURED Collective Podcast for a special episode. During her third appearance on the show, she taps into radical honesty and vulnerability in the hopes of erasing stigma, providing hope, and calling others forward into recovery and reclamation. Lauren is a trauma-informed coach, writer, and mother. She is also the co-founder of WTHN, a transformative group coaching program that she runs with Joe. Like many experts, she developed her niche with the influence of her personal experiences. In today's episode, she opens up for the first time about what her personal history has truly entailed. Lauren speaks to her lifelong eating disorder, as well as her own version of recovery; which she aptly names, “The Uncovery.” The theme of this episode, and of her recovery, is one of unlocking her voice: when she first lost it, key moments that highlight the estrangement, and what finally helped her restore it. As a survivor of sexual abuse and sexual assault, Lauren turns a corner in her healing by speaking to the impact of those experiences today.  Lauren also shares her perspective on the triphasic nature of healing, as well as the type of treatments available for those who suffer from eating disorders and sexual trauma. The episode ends with a description of how she is attributing meaning to her experiences and finding significance in service; for which WTHN is the conduit and the container.  Tune in for a message of hope and a call for healing. In this powerful video, Timothy McMahan King shares his story of addiction and recovery, and how faith and freedom can help us overcome any obstacle. Timothy McMahan King is an addiction specialist, faith leader, and freedom fighter. In this video, he shares his story of addiction and recovery, and how faith and freedom can help us overcome any obstacle. Whether you're struggling with addiction or just want to be free from its clutches, this video is a powerful resource for you. Timothy McMahan King shares his story of addiction and recovery, and how faith and freedom can help us overcome any obstacle. When a near-fatal illness led his doctors to prescribe narcotics, media consultant Timothy McMahan King ended up where millions of others have: addicted. Eventually King learned to manage pain without opioids—but not before he began asking profound questions about the spiritual and moral nature of addiction, the companies complicit in creating the opioid epidemic, and the paths toward healing and recovery. We have become a society not only damaged by addiction but fueled by it. In Addiction Nation, King investigates the ways that addiction robs us of freedom and holds us back from being fully human. Through stories, theology, philosophy, and cultural analysis, King examines today's most common addictions and their destructive consequences. In stark yet intimate prose, he looks not only at the rise of opioid abuse but at policy, pain, virtue, and habit. He also unpacks research showing patterns of addiction to technology, stress, and even political partisanship. Addiction of any kind dims the image of God and corrupts who we were created to be. Addiction Nation nudges us toward healing from the ravages of addiction and draws us toward a spirituality sturdy enough to sate our deepest longings. Together we share our common experiences, along with how we are both trying to change the world and the way recovery in Christianity as well as nonfaith based environment has some room to grow. So this week, I decided to drop a 2nd episode! Today's discussion is with George A. Wood. He is the co-author of "The Uncovery," which comes on July 26th. This discussion was amazing from beginning to end! He was so open and willing to share every part of his story so that other people will know they are not alone in their own trauma. George understands the broken, the addicted, and the "lost" because he was one of them. Still remembering the thoughts he had first checking into a detox center: "People shouldn't feel so alone, ridiculed, and judged." Over the years, witnessing toxic help from both the Christian and secular communities—money wasted, lives lost, and damage done to the ones they were trying to help. Those struggling with addiction, mental health stuck in poverty, brokenness, disconnected from any form of hope lost in this cycle of desperation and despair all because the ones trying to help were lost themselves. He is involved in Pastoral Counseling and has 2 different organizations, The Timothy Initiative and The Sober Truth Project. He lives in Tampa, FL with his family. The more we resist, the more we innocently create new problems that look like they need to be managed. It’s one big, sticky web of judgment, effort, and fear. Since quite a young age she was always drawn to the "invisible" world, leading her to study many spiritual traditions and esoteric mysteries, but she felt something was still not clear, and even missing. Then she discovered the Three Principles that explain how our experience is actually, really, truly created... And now she is so much more than "recovered", she has UNcovered the true well-being that was always there. As she says, "It was waiting patiently for me to just pull back the curtain and catch a glimpse."BioAmanda grew up dancing in Seattle and followed her dreams to move to New York City in the early nineties. There she earned a BFA in Dance from New York University and began her own company Amanda Jones Dance as well as performing and creating dance works for various artists in the city and overseas. Deepening her interest in movement and the body, Amanda earned a Massage Therapy degree from NYC's Swedish Institute of Massage and Applied Sciences. Amanda eventually moved to Austin Texas and performed and created dance with StillPoint Dance company as well as establishing a private Massage Therapy practice. Moving on from dance, Amanda creates handmade accessories and works of art involving hand embroidery, knitting, collage and fabrics. After discovering the Three Principles around 2013, Amanda has finally found a deep peace and happiness that she shares everyday with her husband Danny, and their bossy kitty Stella.

Pricing – If you're not worried that you're pricing it too cheap, you're not pricing it cheap enough. That's the best advice I can give you about Pricing in a single sentence. Never ask, “How much might someone be willing to pay for this?” Ask instead, “At what price could I sell a huge number of these?” Read the biographies of Henry Ford and Sam Walton and you'll learn that this was the one question asked by both men throughout their lives. The correct answer to that question lifted Henry and Sam out of the shadows of obscurity to stand among America's wealthiest citizens. Please don't listen to well-meaning friends who try to tell you that “Anyone who would pay ten dollars for this would just as quickly pay fifteen.” The Model T was invented when Henry Ford set out to “design a car that could be manufactured and sold at a profit for $850.00” Every other car in the world sold for at least $2,500 at the time. Nearly 2,000 automobile manufacturers had been launched and failed during the 22 years prior to Henry's launch of the Model T in 1908. (It was called the Model T because Models A through S failed to meet Henry's pricing criteria. The Model A that replaced the Model T was the beginning of Henry's second trip through the alphabet.) The assembly line was invented only as a tool to help Henry achieve his price. Read Made in America, the biography of Sam Walton written while he lay on his deathbed, and you'll quickly see that Sam was just another Henry Ford. Can anyone say Michael Dell? Value – People don't trade money for things when they value their money more highly than they value the things. No trade will be made unless they want the thing more than they want their money. This is why things-with-stories sell faster than things-without-stories. How much faster depends on the story. Notice that I didn't say things-with-stories necessarily sell for more money, I said they sell faster. Stories, like refurbishments and repairs, can increase the salability of an item without increasing its actual value. Ask anyone who has ever sold a home or a car. All that repainting, repair and clean-up didn't raise the price as much as it made the home or car more salable. Likewise, stories increase salability more often than they increase the value or the price. The value of an item – in the mind of a consumer – is simply the difference between the anticipated price and the price on the tag. When the anticipated price is higher than the price tag, it's a “good value.” When the anticipated price is lower than the price tag, it's a bad value. Good stories raise the anticipated price. Finding the untold story is the goal of a process we call the Uncovery. Salability – The salability of an item can often be improved while the value itself remains unchanged. A good story often increases the salability of an item without increasing its actual value. NOTE: The fact that an item is selling briskly doesn't always mean that you can increase its price. And the fact that an item isn't selling well can't always be cured by lowering its price. Sometimes the secret to increasing the sales volume of an item is to http://wizardacademy.org/memoarchives.asp (tell a better story) about it. Sometimes the secret is simply to lower the price. Do both and you can take over the world. Just ask Henry, Sam and Michael. Roy H. Williams
