20% of the population is on the hypermobile spectrum and can struggle with chronic pain because of it. At the more extreme end of the spectrum is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a genetic disorder that affects not not muscles and joints but the whole body in ongoing feedback loops. Perhaps most significantly, 80% of people with EDS have generalized anxiety. Most doctors or practitioners seeing people with vague symptoms from chronic pain, allergies, SIBO, IBS, brain fog, POTS, autoimmunity, anxiety, and more are often unaware that EDS can be the cause. Even less know about holistic ways to intervene in the cycle of dysregulation. So I spoke with a specialist in EDS, Dr. Derik Andersen to get some answers. In this episode we discuss:what is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome?the mast cell activation and EDS cyclewhat are the symptoms and how can someone test themselves?why are anxiety and nervous system issues associated with it?research on the Autonomic Nervous System and HRVneurodivergence and EDSholistic treatment approachesfocused shockwave therapynutritional interventionsbreathwork for the nervous sustemwhat practitioners should knowBioDerik S. Anderson, DC, CPT, CSN is the Clinic Director of the Muscle and Joint Clinic in Northern California. He helps his patients be healthier by utilizing his education and personal and professional backgrounds. Dr. Anderson grew up wanting to help people and initially planned to go to business school to work in energy conservation. But, after a good friend's life was positively changed by chiropractic care, he had a change of heart. His friend spent two years with horrific intestinal problems and saw over a dozen providers, but no one could help her – until she saw a chiropractor. The chiropractor knew that the vertebra and muscles around them affected the nerves that controlled the intestines. After treatment, she was no longer bed-ridden and went back to teaching, traveling and leading an active life. Dr. Anderson realized that health care was his calling and his passion for helping people was channeled into chiropractic.Education:Life Chiropractic College West, Doctor of ChiropracticUniversity of California, Santa Barbara, Bachelor of Arts, EconomicsCompleted more than 1,000 hours of post-doctoral educationSports Nutritionist, CertifiedPersonal Fitness Trainer, CertifiedActive Release Technique, Certified 2011FAKTR, CertifiedMyofascial Decompression, CertifiedIronman® Healthcare ProviderThe Clinic: https://musclejointclinic.com/Resources:Dr. Jessica Eccles https://www.bsms.ac.uk/about/contact-us/staff/dr-jessica-eccles.aspxhttps://tmsforacure.org/ Links: Find videos and bonus episodes: DEPTHWORK.SUBSTACK.COMGet the book: Mad Studies Reader: Interdisciplinary Innovations in Mental HealthBecome a member: The Institute for the Development of Human ArtsTrain with us: Transformative Mental Health Core CurriculumSessions & Information about the host: JazmineRussell.comDisclaimer: The DEPTH Work Podcast is for educational and entertainment purposes only. Kirsty and Simon are back with their usual brew of banter, mulling over lots of things as usual, some interesting, some guesthouse, some inane!Kirsty kicks off with Sundays—why the slow, cozy haze? Is it roast dinners or the weather that makes it? Simon rambles on about something or other about drinking habits until they call it a day.Head of Security, Derik, shines by alerting them to guest arrivals. Kirsty paints the scene of Derik's tail-wagging announcements, and muses he is Employee of the Month material...Tea time stirs up a spat: Kirsty has no idea what the difference is before Simon thinks he can explain but fails. For all those who want to know...? Afternoon tea's the posh one, high tea's heartier. Kirsty's eyeing scones, Simon's dreaming of pie. Then they dive into With Love, Meghan on Netflix—Kirsty's hooked on Meghan's jam-making and flower-arranging, calling it “posh but oddly soothing.” Simon's less sold, grumbling that it's “too much faffing about” and wondering why there's no episode on bacon sarnies. They spar over whether it's aspirational or just bonkers, with Kirsty questioning peoples opinions and why anyone needs them, ironically giving her opinion. The late check-in drama reaches a conclusion. Was it a drama or merely a storm in an afternoon tea cup.Orange Juice gate has an update. Is there a resolution in sight!Kirsty wraps with her bargain of the week—something she snagged for a steal, but she's coy on details. “It's something I´ve wanted for ages,” she smirks, while Simon has no choice but to agree... for once!Tune in for the laughs, tangents, and tea and much more - Head of Security-approved!This season 6 expect more opinions, more guesthouse, more mindset and more laughs along the way.Kirsty and Simon run a small, yet perfectly formed, Bed & Breakfast in the mountains, 30mins north of Malaga in Southern Spain.Six years, one pandemic, two guesthouses, 3 series of A New Life In The Sun, this is their journey...! The good, the bad and the ugly, nothing is off the breakfast table. Thanks for joining usKirsty & Simon xxwww.casakisi.com Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

There was an amazing, powerful story to be told in this movie about the first battalion of Black women in the Army. Major Charity Adams was the first Black woman to become an officer in the Women's Corps. The Herculean task that they had to undertake. The way that they delivered the mail that no one else could. The uplifting, motivating stories are everywhere. Unfortunately, Tyler Perry directed this movie. So that means he created a dark-skinned black woman to be the black villain. That means he spent little time discussing Major Adams' rise to Major. He spent little time talking about the battalion as a whole. But he did make sure to spend half of the movie talking about a magical white man who was the impetus for the lead character to do EVERY SINGLE THING she did in her life after he died. This movie could have been so much more, and Stephanie from Mocha Minutes and Derik discuss it. Enjoy. A teen's body language communicates SO MUCH. There are ways teens can stand, sit, and walk that will not only create confidence within yourself, but also signal to other people that you ARE confident. I interview special guest Derik Clark, a 22-year US Army veteran officer who specialized in counterintelligence (anti spy) investigations and intelligence source operations (similar to police informant stuff). Through these responsibilities he became a subject matter expert in body language assessments, high stakes interviewing in threatening environments, and building relationships of trust with intelligence agencies in domestic and international environments. He shares tips with teens on how to have confident body language. Plus, as a tip at the end, he tells teens how to recognize if someone likes you!To learn more about what Derik does, visit his website https://bodysights.com/--My new gamified mindset training app for teens, Sidekick to Hero, is available now!
