A group of home-schooled children recently relished an engaging visit to the Regional Media studios in Kewanee. Ranging from toddlers to teenagers and accompanied by adults, the group explored the fascinating world of radio broadcasting. Their journey began at the WKEI studio, where they witnessed the transformation of interviews into radio shows. Seth Parlier then introduced them to the Hog County studio, sharing the secrets of his Birthday Barn recordings. Meanwhile, Jaden entertained in the conference room, and families recorded the "Wake Up Tri-Counties" intro. The tour concluded with juice boxes and goldfish crackers, leaving everyone with unforgettable memories. You can hear their show greeting at the top of the 7:50 AM newscast, on 1450 AM and 102.1 FM, on Thursday and Friday, February 27th and 28th.
Kinsleigh and her mom Christie joined Wake Up Tr-Counties to talk about the bake sales they held over the summer to raise money to fill senior angels from nursing homes in Kewanee. Kinsleigh is a 10-year-old student at Central School, and ringing bells on her birthday inspired her to get Christmas presents for seniors in nursing homes. She talks about how many residents in nursing homes have no family or no one to visit them. She raised $1,156 from the bake sales, and she and her mom Christie, with a little help from Grandma Madeline, baked all the treats and sold them around the community. They took the last 69 tags left on the Angel Trees from Royal Oaks and Kewanee Care Home. Kinsleigh said she wants this to be a yearly tradition for her family. Her goal was 50 angels, which she met plus more. Excellent work, Kinsleigh, from your friends at Regional Media! We can't wait to talk with Kinsleigh next year. In the meantime, if you want to help, send us a Facebook message with your information, and we will pass your information to Christie.

My newsletter: https://simonowens.substack.com/ The last few years have been pretty good to the Kansas City Chiefs, what with its multiple Super Bowl championships and a close association with the biggest pop star in the world, but BJ Kissel remembers what it was like to be a fan of the team long before it started regularly winning games. Back in the early 2010s, he began blogging for SB Nation, and he used his success there to eventually land a job as the Kansas City Chiefs in-house reporter. In that role, he did everything from writing web articles to serving as a sidelines correspondent for live game broadcasts. In 2021, he struck off on his own and co-founded the KC Sports Network, a group of podcasts and YouTube channels that cover Kansas City Sports. Today, puts out 10 different shows and is monetized through a mixture of local and national advertisers. In a recent interview, BJ explained why he left his job at the Chiefs, how he convinced local businesses to sponsor his shows, where he sees new opportunities for growth.
Actor Peter Macon is an Emmy Award winning voice actor who has had a slow rise to fame. That rise will no doubt be accelerated by his terrific work as Raka in the blockbuster hit, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. In Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Raka is the keeper of legends, doing his best to maintain the legend of Caesar, the first Ape leader, and the subject of the previous three Apes movies. Raka stands in defiance of those who corrupt Caesar's legend and try to twist his teaching to fit their narrative of ape domination. Raka is also a friend and ally to Noa, the film's protagonist, providing a listening ear and wise guidance to the young, headstrong, Noa. Peter Macon is awesome in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and it was our pleasure to have him on Wake Up Tri-Counties this week.

If the name Amy Redford sounds familiar that is because she is the daughter of famed actor, activist, and filmmaker Robert Redford. That aside, Amy is cutting her own path as a filmmaker in Hollywood. The latest steps on that path include a thrilling new drama called What Comes Around. The film stars Kyle Gallner, Summer Phoenix, and Grace Van Dien and it tells the story of a deeply inappropriate relationship between a 28 year old man and a young woman who just turned 17. That however, is only the beginning of what makes this romance problematic. What Comes Around is bracing and divisive and filled with contradictions that you really cannot tear yourself away from as you watch it. I highly recommend What Comes Around and I was very excited for the chance to talk to director Amy Redford about the inspiration for this terrific movie.
Just one day following their wildly successful Drive-Thru Job Fair at our Regional Media studios, Fay Mattson from Help at Home joined Sean Kernan on the WKEI Morning Show to talk about how their are still opportunities, jobs, available with Help at Home. There are jobs at Help at Home for any experience level. Duties range from cooking and cleaning for homebound individuals to more thorough care for these individuals, depending on your level of education and qualifications. It's a great job for a young person looking at a future in Healthcare as it provides the chance to learn hands-on, one on one with a patient in need. But, it's also a great job for anyone who enjoys helping those in need with the kind of tasks they simply can no longer do on their own. Go to HelpatHome.com/careers for more information.

The new movie The Devil Conspiracy is a wild ride of an action movie. Centered on a group who steal the Shroud of Turin to clone Jesus as a way of bringing Lucifer out of Hell, you can rightly say that the movie has a lot going. Joe Anderson is one of the stars of The Devil Conspiracy where he has the daunting task of playing Lucifer, Satan himself, the Devil. It's a big role and our Sean Kernan talked with Joe about the challenges he faced in his role in The Devil Conspiracy. The Devil Conspiracy is in theaters this weekend with plans to expand to more theaters in the near future.
