We all have become so aware of the importance of smell the past few years. Especially during the pandemic when many people lost it. On this week's episode, Hana Tisserand, COO, cofounder and director of operations and communications of the Tisserand Institute joins The Essential Oil Revolution. This week, Hana offers her science based and practical wisdom on essential oils; specifically surrounding that of olfactory retraining. What You Will Learn: 1. The history of the Tisserand Institute and why it transformed from in-person integrative practitioner training in aromatherapy to online holistic training in essential oils.  2. How Hana's unique background influenced her to be an expert in essential oils. This includes her growing up in the Czech Republic, where integrative, conventional, and natural approaches co-exist in pharmacies side-by-side and what led her to meet Robert Tisserand. 3. The importance of smell as a chemosensory experience. For example, it alerts us to danger, influences our taste, stimulates memory, and determines how we interact with the world on a sensory and hedonistic basis.  4. What component found in essential oils are the most communicated “language” in the world. These molecules are shared by every creature on the planet, from single-celled organisms to mammals.  5. How essential oils constituents can still impact our biochemistry and physiology, even if you lose your ability to smell. 6. The concept of olfactory training and how it works. 7. Why specific essential oils or the constituents found within them, phenylethanol (rosy), 1,8-cineole (eucalyptus), citronellal (lemony) and eugenol (clove), are used in smell training. We also discuss if essential oils are more powerful than the single constituents based on their multiple effects. 6. Why olfactory training works the best for those with infections and an intact, functioning trigeminal nerve. 7. Why the aim of the Tisserand Institute is to provide education and information that is accurate, safe, and accessible to all essential oil users vs. preparing one for aromatherapist certification. 8. One thing Hana does for self-care daily. (Hint it has to do with her love of aromas and hot beverages.) 9. The one things Hana feels we should ditch and replace with instead to be healthier.  10. Hana's favorite essential oils hack: Using cotton balls/cotton pads for inhalation. It is super easy, quick, portable, safe, and accessible. Bio of Hana Tisserand Hana Tisserand is the COO, cofounder, and director of operations and communications of the Tisserand Institute, the global leader in online evidence-based essential oils education. Hana has been working at the Tisserand Institute since 2014 and she oversees the creation of its course content and curricula, moderates live webinars, supervises the staff, and teaches her own introductory classes. She also writes the Tisserand Institute newsletters, her own blog posts, and detailed scientific articles.  Hana has a unique perspective on how information about essential oils is sourced, processed, and communicated, stemming from her past experiences. She is a sought-after presenter for various prestigious aromatherapy events, including the Alliance of International Aromatherapists and NAHA (National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy). Being raised in a family of doctors and nurses gave Hana an underlying interest in the workings of the human body, which previously manifested in her specialization in medical translation. Her love for science, essential oils, perfumes, and fragrances runs deep, as does her appreciation for fine teas and coffee.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In this episode, Frauke sits down with aromatherapy pioneer and author Robert Tisserand to reflect on 50 years of Aromatherapy. Robert takes us through his life's journey growing up in London, incl. his studies and original career ambitions (you might be surprised!). He shares what got him interested in essential oils, how he ended up writing that now famous book The Art of Aromatherapy, and reveals what Aromatherapy was like in the UK back in the 1970's (spoiler alert: it's nothing like it is today). Robert and Frauke also have an honest discussion about what Aromatherapy is today, what's changed over the years, and what people get really wrong about the field. They discuss the controversial topic of naturals vs. synthetics, debate the quality of essential oils nowadays, as well as share how they create a fragrance. Robert also shares what he feels is the most interesting research being done on essential oils today. This is a candid and heartwarming conversation that you don't want to miss. Green Beauty Conversations by Formula Botanica | Organic & Natural Skincare | Cosmetic Formulation | Indie Beauty Business

‘Robert Tisserand has just joined our Facebook group’, Lorraine messaged me excitedly. ‘The Robert Tisserand?’ I replied. ‘YES, THE Robert Tisserand’. This was an exciting moment for us at Formula Botanica. As organic cosmetic formulators, Robert Tisserand’s seminal work on essential oil safety had been a staple resource for Formula Botanica for years and his research into essential oils are highly regarded and respected within our wider community. Last year Lorraine and I were able to arrange a meeting with Robert in London and we kept a steady dialogue flowing since then.  When he agreed to be a guest on the podcast we were thrilled and we were determined to make the most out of this opportunity and share it with as many of you as possible. Robert Tisserand is an expert in aromatherapy and essential oil research.    In this podcast you will learn: Why essential oil safety is an issue and why he decided to write his book ‘Essential Oil Safety’ back in 1995. Some of the issues with the EU guidelines and what the current research on essential oils shows in terms of allergens in citrus oils and why his safety guidance differs. Some examples of why safety guidelines are necessary and why essential oil safety is still such an important topic and worthy of our attention. The benefits of using essential oils in cosmetic formulation. Key takeaways: Get Robert’s opinion on the recent lavender and tea tree oil controversy where recent research suggested that both oils were hormone disruptors. Why you should research essential oils carefully when using them in skincare or haircare formulations and why some research can be considered scare-mongering. Why legislation continues to be a challenge, why it is likely that it will increase in the coming years and how this relates to safety.   To help people make informed decisions about essential oil usage, The Tisserand Institute has launched a six-part, certified Essential Oil Safety Masterclass with Robert Tisserand. It seems strange to me that people jump on to share fear around this when there are so many other areas within lifestyle to worry about. Q2: Hi I am new to doTERRA & truly loving it! I am wanting to build my business but unsure the best way to move forwards.... how to explain doTERRA, what to do on first talking to people about it, how to run a class, what to do each day to be productive! Q3: At the beginning ranks did you try and be everything for everyone and do you think if you acted the way you do now when you started it would've been less of a grind? Q4: Loving this show so much!! My question is, what was your method when getting started with Doterra? Was there a script you used? I struggle with saying enough but not saying too much to confuse people, when and how often to follow up etc. Would love your insight!! Q5: I'm just wondering how you approached (pre presidential diamond) or answered people when they are interested in oils and then you let them know you can help them to get started...and immediately they say ...negatively, "oh you sell this?" and you can tell the mood, energy shifts...I keep it positive, clarify without being aggressive on the "selling" part. I feel like I"m losing people here...I've even practiced and rehearsed on my husband...but would love to hear your approach..especially early on...and how you approach it now. Thanks Q6: Hi Ange, I’m soaking up all the love and motivation and wisdom you have to offer. My question is, do your kids appreciate this about you? How do you invest all that you’ve learned into their lives? I’m completely aware that I have so much work to do on my mindset and I want to know how to raise my son to have a clear, purposeful, confident mind as he grows up so he can have as little baggage as possible. I don’t know how to do this! Thanks for keeping it so real. Q7: First, thank you so much for pouring into this community. You’re truly a lighthouse for up-levers in health and leadership and I and my leaders are so grateful Wondering if you would share how you run your Essential 30 Cleanse Group for those of us who aren’t on your team. I would love to lead this type of group for my own customers and I’m curious how you keep inspiration up on the daily. Thank you so much! Q8: How do you add the titles on your live video's?
