We discuss the biblical definition of a nation and its historical context, as well as the importance of reading and understanding the original texts of the Bible. Additionally, we address listener questions on a variety of subjects, including divorce, raising children, and the perpetual virginity of Mary. Terence - How does the Church define what a nation is? Some popes have said to respect the powers of nations. Joseph - I am going through a divorce and am wondering how I should navigate child custody? Tori - Did Joseph ever have sexual relations with Mary? Alex - I learned that Mary was sent to live in a temple when she was 3-years-old and needed to be married in order to be safe. That is why she got married. Patrick reads and responds to an email from a 24-year-old who is having marital relations with her boyfriend. They share a child together and she hopes to marry him someday. She asks if what she's doing is sinful. Maria - Did Saint Ann and Saint Joachim have sexual relations? Frank - I have a lot medical problems and nothing seems to be helping. I am stuck in my house and not sure what to do with my life. What should I do?

La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
Delivered by Festy Maria Faustin from Catholic Religion High School Saint John Paul II Seminary Labuan Bajo, Indonesia. Sirach 44: 1.10-15; Rs psalm 132: 11: 13-14.17-18; Matthew 13: 16-17 LONGING TO SEE GOD The theme for our meditation today is: Longing to See God. A long and complicated history of salvation illustrates the life and growth of the faith of those who were called to fulfill the will of God. Their communication and relationship with God were manifested in the covenant that God would reveal Himself as the savior of mankind. God always spoke and promised, for example to Abraham, Noah, kings and prophets, but He did not show up as a human being that they could meet face to face. A communication or relationship that still exists as a promise always gives us the consequence to wait for its realization. This is true with all the stories in the old testament. All those who accepted the promise and understood it very well can only hope in faith that the promise of the coming of the Messiah, the principal messenger of God could be realized. They all had the desire to see God. Their longing was not something empty but a real one, because God Himself already spoke about that, divine miracles and many other signs had really strengthened their faith in coming of the One sent from Heaven. But until they all died and left this world their dreams and wishes had not been realized. This illustration can help us to reflect about this. There were two grandparents did not see one of their grandchildren to become a priest and if possible a bishop. They did not see what they had dreamt of. They had already died when one of their grandchildren after following all his formation proceses then to be ordained as a priest. This situation is similar to the people in the old testament. About these people, there are some exceptions. The scriptures only record a number of persons who did not directly experience the coming of the Messiah into the world. The parents of John the Baptist, Zakaria and Elisabeth should belong to this category. This includes also the parents of Our Lady, Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, whose feast day we celebrate today. This couple and grandparents were certainly very happy and proud because the Son of God who was born as Jesus Christ, is from the womb of Mary, their own daughter. When Jesus says, "Many prophets and righteous people want to see what you see", He points this to Saints Joachim and Anne, and all other people including us, who see and experience the incarnated God in this world. Jesus wants to say that by seeing and experiencing Himself in a real and personal way, this makes us a people so special and blessed. Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus, may through the intercession of Saints Joachim and Anne, we will remain faithful to You in all our lives. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... Reading is delivered by Eka Wahyu and meditation is delivered by Masdi, from Saint Pater's School in Jakarta, Indonesia. Sirach 44: 1.10-15; RS psalm 132: 11.13-14.17-18; Matthew 13: 16-17 LONGING TO SEE GOD The theme for our meditation today is: Longing to See God. The long and complicated detail in the history of salvation describes the growth of faith those who were called to carry out the will God. Their communication and relationship with God were embodied in a covenant which was to be the revealation of God Himself as the savior of mankind. God always spoke and promised to mankind, for example to Abraham, Noah, kings and prophets, but it never came true in the form of an encounter in persons face to face. A communication and relationship that are still in the form promise always gives us period of times to wait for its realization. This was evident during the Old Testament period. All those who had accepted the promise and had understood it very well could only hope in faith that the promise of the coming of the Messiah, the messenger of God almighty would come true. They all had a great desire to see God. All kinds of testimony and many great wonders had been performed to strengthen their faith. Their longing was real and not just a vain imagination. However, until they all had died and left this world, the realization of seeing God in person was not on their side. Perhaps this was the same case with two grandparents who desperately yearned for one of their grandchildren to become a priest and if possible a bishop. But that yearning has not been realized, when one of their grandchildren who was still studying to become a priest and has not yet been ordained, that elderly couple has already died. This situation was more or less similar to the people in the Old Testament who longed for the Messiah. Regarding these people, there are some exceptions. The holy Scripture only records some personages who did not directly experience the coming of the Messiah into the world but they had occupied certain important roles in the preparation for the coming of the Messiah. In the position of John the Baptist's parents, Zakaria and Elisabeth, we can imagine that they should be part of this category of indirect experience to encounter Jesus Christ. It is appropriate to mention also the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Joachim and Saint Anna, whose feastday we celebrate today. We can imagination how these two grandparents and saints were certainly very happy to the fact that the Son of God born as Jesus Christ was from the womb of Mary, their own daughter. When Jesus Himself said in this words, “Many prophets and righteous persons had wanted to see what you see”, He was referring also to Saints Joachim and Anna, and all others including us, who see and experience the incarnated Lord in this world. Exodus 32:15-24, 30-34 (The golden calf) Ecclesiasticus 44:1, 10-15 (Their name lives on for all generations)
Saints Joachim and Anna are the parents of the Virgin Mary. They were an old couple that suffered shame and ridicule due to their barrenness, but God answers their prayers and grants them a baby in their old age, who becomes the mother of Jesus Christ. As the grandparents of Jesus Christ, Saint Joachim and Anna are commemorated in all Christian traditions that venerate saints, and their feast day is a day to celebrate all grandparents.
Feast of Saint Joachim, Father of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Video version: here.
Saint Anne, the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary, was honored, probably along with Saint Joachim, her husband, as early as the sixth century in Constantinople. Devotion in Rome can be traced archeologically to the eighth century.
Episode 092 - On the morning of September 9, 1949, a DC-3 Canadian Pacific passenger plane, CP Flight 108, on a routine small hop flight up the St. Lawrence River crashed into the remote forest of Sault-au-Cochon, Quebec. All 23 aboard, 19 passengers and 4 crew, were killed instantly. Thanks to eyewitness reports of an explosion and first responders reporting the odour of dynamite, it was quickly determined that the crash was the result of sabotage. A Quebec City jeweller, J. Albert Guay quickly became the main suspect, his wife, Rita Morel, had been on the plane and determined to be the sole target. She'd recently discovered his affair with the teenage beauty Marie-Ange Robitaille. Guay also took a $10,000 travellers insurance policy out on his wife the day he bought her plane ticket to the ill fated flight. The other 22 killed were merely collateral damage so one man could get what he wanted. Guay was quickly picked up with his two unlikely accomplices, a wheelchair bound watchmaker and his 44 year old sister, who'd been smitten with Guay. They were charged with multiple counts of murder. As the three were tried a story of betrayal, infidelity and greed emerged shocking the nation. All three were hanged for their participation in what was, up to that point, the third worst air disaster in Canadian history.
