Delivered by Elyanne from the Parish of Saint James in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. 2 Timothy 3: 10-17; Rs psalm 119: 157.160.161.165.166.168; Mark 12: 35-37.THERELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JESUS CHRIST AND DAVID The theme for our meditation today is: TheRelationship between Jesus Christ and David. In one of His teachings, Jesusinvited the scribes to meditate deeply on the identity of the Messiah.According to them, the Messiah was the son of David, because he was indeed adescendant of King David. But Jesus asked a question that left them speechless:if the Messiah was only David's son, why did David himself call Him his"Lord"? This means that the Messiah was not only the human successorto David's throne, but He who had divine dignity. Jesus is the fleshlydescendant of David, but also the God that David himself looked forward to. Jesus actually showed that it is not enough to knowGod just by mastering religious knowledge. The scribes had a great deal ofknowledge of Scripture, but they failed to grasp the deepest meaning of theWord of God they were studying. They were amazed at Jesus' wisdom, but wereunable to accept the truth he proclaimed. Admiration alone is not enough tobecome a disciple. Faith requires humility to receive God's light. King David himself was an example of humility.Although he was a great and respected king, he acknowledged that the comingMessiah was far greater than he was. David did not make himself the center, butinstead set his sights on the God who would save His people. This attitude iswhat distinguishes the heart of a believer from a heart that only seeks respectand self-recognition. On the contrary, in Paul's letters we see a beautifulexample of a relationship between a teacher and a student. Paul guided Timothynot only by words, but also by living example. Timothy accepted that teachingwith faithfulness and obedience. Paul counseled him to hold fast to theteachings he had received and not to be easily influenced by misleadingteachings. Timothy believed in God working through Paul's guidance. The relationship between Paul and Timothy shows afaith that grows through companionship and faithfulness. It is not enough tojust hear God's Word or admire His preachers. We are called to live the truthwe have received. Timothy not only listened to Paul, but also practiced what hewas taught.  Today the Lord invites us to ask ourselves: do we onlyadmire Jesus, or do we really follow Him? Do we only know His teachings, or dowe try to apply them in our daily lives? May we have true humility as a sign oftrue faith.Letus pray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord, strengthen our faith in You sothat we may be a sign of Your presence and work in this world. Glory to theFather and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit... In the name of the Father ...

Delivered by Gabriela Natani from the Parish of Good Shepherd in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Jude 17: 20b-25; Rs psalm 63: 2.3-4.5-6; Mark 11: 27-33.PRESERVE YOURSELF IN GOD'S LOVE Our meditation today has the theme: Preserve YourselfIn God's Love. A person can only give or share from himself if he hassomething. He cannot give a plate of rice or a twenty-thousand bill to aneighbor if he has neither rice nor money. In order to support the Christianspirit in sharing God's grace, followers of Christ must have God's grace in abundance. Grace and divine mercy will not run out because theycome from the Lord. To ensure that the richness of God's grace are alwayspresent in a person, he should always maintain himself in connection with thegrace of God's love. But perhaps here is the irony as many of us for the sakeof doing service for others and for an insincere interest, they choose to payattention or help nurturing the faith of others.  In other words, some people have tendency to take carefor the spiritual growth of others. They follow constantly in how other peoplelive a good life, have great and pure love in helping one's neighbors, andbuild unity. Usually those who consider themselves mature and have some advanceknowledge in faith have this tendency. As a result, they do not have enoughopportunity and will to take care of themselves in enriching themselves withGod's love and mercy. Those in this group follow the style of activism. Caring and growing oneself in God's love departs fromthe truth about God who has the power to keep us from stumbling and not beingcompletely overpowered by the forces of evil. The Epistle of the Apostle Judein the first reading emphasizes that every believer should base himself on aholy faith and always keep himself in the love of God. By gaining God's wisdom,we will be blessed with the grace of joy to await His glory that will be fullyrevealed. Furthermore, we should be the ones who maintain thegrace that has been bestowed upon us. The most fundamental way is the need forthe power of God's grace to fill us, like a soul that thirsts for God and longsto be satisfied by God at all times. If our way is only passively waiting, ourreadiness for the coming of God's grace may be very little. But when there is aneed and urgency, we will be joyful and ready for the graces God generouslygive us. We must hope and ask with high pleasure. We can nourish ourselves in God's love through moreand more acts of love. Every act of love we do must still be based on the nameand power of Jesus Christ who presents the almighty God. Without the power ofGod, every act of our love will lose its legitimacy and spiritual influence onothers. Letus pray. In the name of the Father... O Almighty God, may we diligently nourishourselves in Your love and always share that love with those around us. HailMary, full of grace... In the name of the Father ...

Delivered by Kimmy from the Parish of Good Shepherd in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Genesis 3: 9-15.20; Rs psalm 87: 1-2.3.5.6-7; John 19: 25-34.THE GIFT OF A MOTHER The theme for our meditation today is: The Gift of aMother. On one occasion of the Sunday Mass which coincided with "Father's Day", the priest whopresided the Holy Eucharist invited all the fathers present to come near thealtar. They were prayed over and blessed by the priest before the closing ofthe Mass with blessing for all the faithful. At that time there were threefathers crying emotionally and were seen by the priest who was praying overthem. The priest met them outside the church after the Mass. They one by one were asked why they cried with emotion when they were in frontof the priest. They all answered that their wives forced them to go in frontwith different threats. If they did not want to go for the blessing from thepriest, sanctions will be given without mercy. One was threatened not to enterthe house after returning from the Mass. Another was threatened that the wifewould not accompany him if he invited her for a walk together. Another one wasthreatened that his favorite food will not be cooked and served. These threats are really serious. A wife and a motheris the key to the home, the food and the relationship. If these three elementsare removed, how will it be with a husband and a father, even with our reallife! The three fathers who cried should not be understood in the sense thatthey have fierce wives, but in fact they are very sad and distressful to losethe elements of life that their wives carry and live out. It is sure that thesewives or these women indeed represent God's goodness and love to fight allforms of evil that tend to destroy life. We are happy to celebrate this memorial of Our Lady asMother of the Church, which is a celebration to honor and glorify the role ofMotherhood for the whole Church. In principle, the Church is called a motherwith the most obvious reason, namely because Mary is entrusted by her own Son,Jesus Christ who is the head of the Church, as the mother of the Church. Jesusstated that directly and personally when He hung on the cross and would soondie. He said to a disciple whom He loved: "This is your mother"! The church as a mother has the all-importantresponsibility to protect and direct each of her members to the path ofsalvation. Mary certainly cooperates with Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church,to make the Church and all her members live in strong faith, love and hope. Asmother, Mary animates the whole Church along this way. Although the threat ofdemons and enemies never ceases to harm and destroy the Church, the mother ofthe Church has the strength to defend the Church and fight against her opponents. The resistance against the Church never stops as long as this earth is stillspinning, as it is reflected in the today's first reading. Let'spray. In the name of the Father... O most loving God, may Our Lady always bewith us in all our difficulties, especially in times of trouble and the threatfrom the deadly enemies. Hail Mary, full of grace ... In the name of the Father...

Delivered by Celine from the Parish of Saint Marinus Yohanes in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Acts of the Apostles 17: 15.22 - 18: 1; Rs psalm 148: 1-2.11-12ab.12c-14a.14bcd; John 16: 12-15.WE ARE NOT ONLY AFTER QUANTITY Our meditation today has the theme: We Are Not OnlyAfter Quantity. At 7 AM the Parish Priest was ready in the sacristy to proceedto the altar and the Holy Mass would soon start. The choir leader and memberswere anxious because the people present were only a quarter of the church'scapacity. They asked the priest to wait for other people to come before theHoly Mass could begin. But the Pastor answered: "The Mass does not dependon the number of people present in the church." What the Parish Priest did is something that can serveas a reflection of the growth of our faith and our being a Church, that weare not only after the quantity or numbers. We also really need quality. In thecontext of the preaching of the gospel by Saint Paul and his companions inAthens, in the arena of Aeropagus, many rejected all Paul's teachings aboutJesus Christ, and only one or two who accepted and became believers. This is avery small quantity when it is compared with a number of places they hadvisited and evangelized. If the main target is number or as many new followersas possible, this outcome in Athens would be so disappointing. But Paul and hisgroup knew that this was the work of God, and should be depended on God's willto be done. In God, there is no competition on calculation of the profit andloss between quantity and quality. For God, there is one thing that isfundamental, namely people who believe, who follow Him and live their faithwith quality. The actual number now in the Church is a realization of Jesus'choice to makes us a people separated from this world. The quality of our livesis very dependent on our ability to live in the light and guidance of the HolySpirit. With the Holy Spirit, we have a specific place in Jesus Christ. There are two human tendencies for pursuing quantityand quality often cause us problems. Those who pursue numbers can be morefavorable for material, physical, social and success gain. Those who pursuequality can be more elitist, exclusive, irrelevant and unrealistic. So, the bestway for us would be to have a balance, which is the quantity we deserve and atthe same time we give quality to the quantity that we have. For example, our presence in the community or familyis so little, but we should spend it with the best quality that can contributeto the good impact for all. If you have enough money and goods, you should paymore attention to the quality of life and be generous to other people who areless fortunate. You may be thin, but your health must be good. You are lesssmart, but you are responsible. We must make a balance of life as a way tothank and glorify our Lord. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord, through the guidance of YourSpirit, may we become wise persons in making our lives balance physically andspiritually, so that our lives are pleasing to You and our neighbors. Glory tothe Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... In the name of the Father...

Delivered by Melinda from the Parish of Saint Marinus Yohanes in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Acts of the Apostles 16: 11-15; Rs psalm 149: 1-2.3-4.5-6a.9b; Yohanes 15: 26 - 16: 4a.THE SECRET OF A HELPER Our meditation today has the theme: The Secret of aHelper. There is a female dog with three puppies that are very cute. In themorning the mother dog carried a number of bones from the back of the kitchento feed her three children. Day and night the food were also the bones leftoverfrom her master's kitchen. The next two days the food were still the samebones. The three children began to get bored and planned to fight. They showedtheir strong protest to their mother. Then all three agreed to do a hunger strike. Theychose to sleep or play instead of eating bones. It turned out that when theywere enjoying themselves, their mother brought fried rice from the master'skitchen. That most delicious food was just left alone until it was rotten, andthe children were very disappointed when they saw for themselves that whattheir mother had brought was not the bones, but the most delicious fried ricethey always dream to eat. The mother dog is an example of a faithful helper toher children. Many of us are good and faithful helpers in one way or another. What form the help is like and how it is manifested, depends very much on thehelper. The person who is helped does not need to be tempted to imagine theform of the help to be given to him or her. Lidya, a Christian woman in thefirst reading, offered lodging assistance to Paul and his companions. That isthe secret of Lydia, a good and generous helper. Paul and Silas did not have tobother knowing all the contents of the plan of help from that woman and herfamily. This is what we intend to say about the secret of ahelper. Do we ever know the secret of God's will to helps us? Never. The HolySpirit sent by Jesus Christ and His Father from heaven for us, also has secretaccording to His will. Jesus only revealed the sign that His messenger is ourAdvocate and Defender. We just allow Him to do His job in helping us. We do nothave the authority to force our desires on the Holy Spirit. The point is that, what He will do for us is our benefit and our salvation. Anyone from us who have intention, will, plan and workto help, let him do in good will and clear motivation out of love. His helpmust be appropriate, positive, healthy and with the aim of bringing goodnessand salvation to those people helped. We are not supposed to help others withevil means and ends. It is not helping, but only imposing one's own will whichplunges others into sin, trouble and suffering. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Lord Jesus Christ, help us to imitateYourself in helping others, and may we always open to all teachings of YourHoly Spirit. May we are happy to imitate your mother, the Virgin Mary, who isalso a true helper. Hail Mary, full of grace ... In the name of the Father ...

Delivered by Monika Kimmy from the Parish of Good Shepherd in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Acts of the Apostles 14: 19-28; Rs psalm 145: 10-11.12-13ab.21; John 14: 27-31a.PEACE IS OUR WEAPON The theme for our meditation today is: Peace Is OurWeapon. Jesus Christ had experienced onearth the various forms of human suffering as a consequence of sin and evil ofthis world. To face all these, He did not fight back with His divine authoritywhich was of course more powerful, instead He accepted them with calm, and Heforgave and prayed for those who opposed and persecuted Him. He fought this world power with peace as the weaponthat He got from His divine power. His followers, those from His own family ofNazareth, the apostles and people of every generation, are prepared in such away to be able to experience all forms suffering that He Himself had alreadyexperienced. The apostles proved that they were ready to face all kinds ofsuffering and they had no fear at all, because the weapon of peace was far morepowerful than any other weapons. Paul and Barnabas did the same thing when theybuilt and strengthened the existence of the Church from one place to another. The Church and the followers of Christ in all placesand times now also realize that what Jesus had said before is proved true, namely the cup of suffering He had drunk, is also drunk by His followers. Thesame weapon of peace is still useful, and the famous phrase always recited bythe celebrant priest in the Holy Mass confirms the efficacy of thisweapon, as it goes "Peace I leavewith you, my peace I give you." Jesus Christ gives us His own peace as the powerfulweapon that we should use, and the best moment to use it is when we are underpressure, danger and threat of any form. Jesus had prepared us with thisstrategy. He already knew what would happen to each of His followers who willundergo various difficulties and sufferings. Even though Christians show kindness in their testimonyof faith and bring truth in their words and deeds, all are manifested on behalf of Jesus' name, they will still face kinds of rejection and opposition. The reason for this isbecause Jesus's love and truth are very much in conflict with the culture andstyle of people of this world that have been infected by sin and evil. ButJesus and His followers do not give up and fear. The cross must indeed be takenup and not condemned or thrown away. After bearing the cross we will achievevictory. There is resurrection and new life. So, we must be grateful and full of hope because JesusChrist already prepared us to face the worst situation in the world, as Heequipped us with the weapon of peace from Himself. Imagine if he armed us withswords or guns, it could be happened that our profile as Christians today mightbe the worst in the world. The peace of Jesus is actually very useful forwinning souls for God. This is where the real victory to be our reward. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Lord Jesus Christ, fill us and Your Churchwith your own peace, because with this peace we are secure and safe in Yourhands. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... In thename of the Father ...

Delivered by Nia and Ria from the Parish of Good Shepherd in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Acts of the Apostles 6: 1-7; Rs psalm 33: 1-2.4-5.18-19; 1 Peter 2: 4-9; John 14: 1-12.JESUS IS OUR WAY The theme for our meditation on this 5thSunday of Easter is: Jesus Is Our Way. One Sunday morning, a priest waspreparing to celebrate Mass at a parish 20 kilometers from where he lived inthe city. He drove along a winding road at a speed of between 60 and 80 km perhour. However, when he was only 3 kilometers from the church, the road leadingto the parish church was closed. A community service activity was being held bythe local people. All vehicles had to take an alternate route.  The time for the celebration of Holy Mass was only 20minutes left. He had to find a way, even if it was just the size of the car topass, so that he would soon reach the church. At first he was nervous and didnot know what to do. But he soon realized that GPS (navigation) on hishandphone could help. He set the GPS to direct him to the location of thechurch. In less than 10 minutes he was in the church parking lot, just in timefor an immediate preparation in the sacristy and the Holy Mass would soon start. Like the GPS that directs us the way by using thesound, sign of road directions, warnings and notifications that we really need, the GPS in the journey of our faith also does the same job. The GPS in ourfaith is the Lord Jesus Christ. He testifies His own identity as the path orthe way we must take in order to reach our goal, namely our salvation and unitywith heavenly Father. As the way for us, He gives us the truth which is a realityand fullness of life in Him. Our perfect life is in heaven.  The Word of the Lord today gives us at least tworeflections on the fundamental truth that we have in our faith, which is therevelation of Jesus Himself as our way. The first reflection highlights thatJesus Christ is our savior. In the midst of many dangers and difficulties thatthreaten our lives, He becomes the solution and answer to save us fromdestruction and death. What happened in the First Church in Jerusalem was adivision among the members and discrimination of the Jews and those of the nonJewish groups. But the power of the Lord came to save the Church that was inthe brink of falling apart, through theestablishment of the ministry of deacon. There were seven deacons elected andwere entrusted to help the apostles in the whole services of the Church. The second reflection is about the Lord Jesus gives usa precious dignity, namely a calling to holiness. He blesses us and makes us asacred spiritual house and a holy priesthood. In this way, we receive from Hima great task to sanctify the world. Together with Him, we will bring this worldand all creation through the path of Jesus Christ that leads all to the Father. The way of holiness is first of all for each one's salvation, then also forthose whom we serve in our respective works and missions. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus, we give You thanks and praisefor You are always our way to the Father. May we remain faithful in this path.Hail Mary, full of grace ... In the name of the Father ...

Our meditation yesterday showed the lack ofunderstanding of the apostle Thomas on the true identity of Jesus Christ, towhich Jesus resolved the problem by revealing Himself as our only mediator toGod the Father. Today, the apostle Philip, who represents many people, showsanother type of lack of understanding, that is the question on the identity of the heavenly Father. The answer of Jesus is the most decisive or the keyanswer to this problem, because it shows the purpose of all our searches andefforts of our journey on earth. Jesus reveals the existence of the heavenlyFather whom He represents because the Father actually embodies in the person ofJesus. That is why, He says in this testimony: "Whoever has seen me hasseen the Father." This also means that hearing Jesus is hearing theFather, living with Jesus is living with the Father. In essence, we believethat the Father exists and works in Jesus. The Father and the Son Jesus areone. The unity of the Father and the Son takes place in arelationship of love through communication between them, and this relationshipis known as the Holy Spirit itself. So, the answer given to Philip and all thosewho seek to find the ultimate purpose of life is actually the Trinity, the trueand final identity of God. There is no better or greater answer than this one. Tomeet and live with the Father in Jesus Christ, and in unity of the Holy Spirithad become the commitment of the apostels, and they persevered it until death. Jesus shows us the heavenly Father with the purpose ofmaking us know the reality of God as He is. God comes to our knowledge throughall works of love, kindness and compassion, while we humans are taken up byJesus Christ to the level where we can encounter the Father. At the moment ofincarnation, the Trinity was present in the Son conceived in the womb of theVirgin Mary, born and was under the care of the modest family of Nazareth.Throughout the public ministry of Jesus, the Trinity was also there to work forour redemption. At the end of our journey in the world, the Trinity in heavenwelcomes us for eternal life, the best reward already awaiting us. For us the followers of Christ, such questions fromPhilip and Thomas are not supposed to be our questions too. We are not in theposition to question or even doubt whether Jesus and the Father are one. Ourposition is actually what Jesus had determined when He was still on earth.Jesus had made us His brothers and sisters; therefore, He taught us His ownprayer the "Our Father" to be our basic prayer. This prayer trulymakes us beloved children or sons and daughters of our most loving Father.Jesus is really our good Shepherd, because He knows what we badly need: to bethe beloved sons and daughters of the heavenly Father. We need only to followJesus!Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O most loving Father, we praise and thankYou abundantly for our being beloved sons and daughters by our participation inthe life of Your Son Jesus Christ. May we continue to live with this dignityuntil our death. Hail Mary, full of grace ... In the name of the Father ...

Acts of the Apostles 13: 26-33; Rs psalm 2: 6-7.8-9.10-11; John 14: 1-6.THE SHEPHERD MAKES US COMFORTABLE AND FEEL AT HOME Our meditation today has the theme: The Shepherd MakesUs Comfortable and Feel at Home. When someone feels comfortable, he enjoys aninterpersonal relationship that he engages. When he feels at home, he enjoysand feels at peace with the situation that he is in. He feels at home with thethings or means he is using. For instance, you feel comfortable with friendsnear you, and at the same time you also feel at home with the place and itssituation where you find yourself. The Lord Jesus our good Shepherd comforts and makes usfeel at home in this sense. Jesus makes us comfortable with Him and with ourfellow men and women. Jesus makes us feel at home in His house, which is theChurch, family and group. His teachings and commands sometimes can be sodemanding, but we are happy with them. Today Jesus speaks to us about thisconviction, as He says: "Do not let your hearts be troubled, you havefaith in God, have faith also in me". He simply tells us that as we arewith Him and the Father, we must feel comfortable and at home.                                                                                                                                        But not everyone thinks that they feel comfortable andat home with Jesus Christ. There are people who don't understand Himimmediately when He speaks. There are always different interpretations to Histeachings and wills. For example, the apostle Thomas asked Him, "Show meproof of what You are saying"! Then Jesus said: "I am the way, thetruth and the life". This affirmation of Jesus is enough to give usassurance to be always comfortable with Jesus and feel at home with Histeaching. Jesus gave the power to the servants of the Church tocreate in the Church the spirit of one community of the People of God, wheneveryone may feel comfort in it and at peace with fellow brothers and sisters.Together with Saint Peter on the same level of teaching authority, Saint Paulpreached the same truth about Jesus Christ. Many other apostles and disciplesof Jesus also did the same thing. This truly brought comfort and feeling athome to all listeners, especially the non-Jewish people who were very criticaland skeptical about religion and faith. They therefore, could accept SaintPaul's teachings and eventually chose to become the followers of Christ. Then the question for us would be this: Who is themost responsible to provide comfort and feeling at home? It is not the Lord inthe first place nor leaders of the Church, nor any person with good reputationin faith. Honestly speaking, they always give you kindness and love. So, tofeel comfortable and at home is not their first concern. The one who mustcreate it is every individual, each one us.  This parable might be useful to understand what we aresaying. We are not in the position whether to reject or accept our own parents. They are truly God's gift to us. But about feeling comfortable with one's ownfather and mother, that is one's own responsibility. We must create it. To feelat home and comfortable with God and the Church is our own responsibility. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O most loving God, we praise you alwaysbecause your glory and greatness rule over our entire lives. Strengthen ourcomfort and feel at home so that we can offer ourselves more sincerely to Youand to our neighbors. Our Father who art in heaven ... In the name of theFather ...

Delivered by Enge Kristina from the Parish of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Acts of the Apostles 5: 34-42; Rs psalm 27: 1.4.13-14; John 6: 1-15.BECOME THE INSTRUMENT OF GOD Our meditation today has the theme: Become theInstrument of God. Our Christian life as expected to be in the spirit of Easteris not only a true practice during this Easter season but also during our lifetime on earth. The resurrection of Jesus Christ indeed animates all our life. The period after resurrection is a period when Jesus Christ is not physicallypresent with all His followers, unlike when He was still living and walkingwith His disciples and people of His time. After resurrection, He went up toheaven to be with the heavenly Father. But as He had promised, He is foreverwith us at all times, because His Spirit lives with us in the Church and in thesociety as well. What must we do to ensure that our faith aligned withthe spirit of Easter? The inspiration from our readings today can give us theanswer, and it is true to say that we need to become the instruments of God. Theministry of Jesus Christ carried out by the Holy Church as a community of thePeople of God continues to occur to this day, with her main mission is to servethe humanity and the world. Who are those human beings to be ministered by theChurch? It maybe each one of us, our brothers or sisters and friends. It maybepeople we don't know who they are or where they are from. It maybe persons Godhas entrusted to us to be educated and cared for. Becoming the instrument God for us is a basicChristian vocation, as the Psalmist says: Here I am Lord, to do Your will (Ps.40). The goal of this vocation is to make the Lord truly present in a real anda personal way through the ministry of Jesus Christ Himself, who saves, heals, teaches, speaks of truth, comforts, and forgives. This vocation is given toevery one of us who chooses the way of life as priest, religious and lay person. To carry out well this vocation means each of us acts in the name of the LordJesus Christ and makes His works realized.  We are given an example of the apostles who bravelydefended the truth of the Gospel preached, even though they were tried andimprisoned by the Jewish Religious Court. A famous Jewish priest, Gamaliel, also spoke in the name of truth and at the same time defended what the apostlesfearlessly did. Both the apostles and Gamaliel had proved to be the realinstruments of God in preaching and teaching the true faith. Then anotheroccasion also shows us the practice of this truth. The apostles became the instrumentsfor the feeding of thousands of people who were hungry after a full dayfollowing and listening to Jesus away from the city. A child who provided asmall portion of bread and fish also proved to be the instrument of God for themiracle of multiplication of bread and fish. They were the instruments of God'smercy for the urgent needs of people at that moment. We can be the instruments of God in any givencondition in our lives today, especially the conditions that really needsurgent solution or treatment. It all depends on our willingness and commitmentto do. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O generous and merciful Lord, strengthen usin every step and work that we take, so that we can be your true and usefulinstruments, especially for the benefit of our needy brothers and sisters. HailMary, full of grace ... In the name of the Father ...

Delivered by Nia from the Parish of Good Shepherd in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Acts of the Apostles 5: 27-33; Rs psalm 34: 2.9.17-18.19-20; John 3: 31-36.SCHOOL OF OBEDIENCE Our meditation today has the theme: School ofObedience. One of the characteristics of the spirit of Easter is the school ofobedience. This school is very different from the various schools that we havearound us, such as schools for military, nurses, police, communicationengineering, administration and so forth. Our schools obviously produce a lotof graduates, but did they all graduate or they really qualify in the virtue ofobedience? This is a big question. We should be honest to admit the fact that theseschools do not provide specific lesson and training to make a student obedient. If so, it may be more appropriate and better for allschools to take the spirit of Easter to be the lesson and training forobedience. In the school of obedience, the content of the lesson is JesusChrist who completely obeyed His Father in order to fulfill the will of theFather, by offering Himself as a sacrifice for the salvation of all humanity. This is the main source for the learning curriculum on obedience to beimplemented by all His followers and all other people who in good will followthe will of God. Jesus emphasized that our basic learning in His schoolis to believe in the One who was sent by the Father and follow the path that Hewent through, namely carrying out the will of the Father. This must be a commonspirit for every follower of Christ. Every form of activity such as ourmission, responsibility, commitment, service, and collaboration must refer tothis school of obedience. The point is that we all commit ourselves to carryout the will of God. If God's will is faithfully followed, then its expectedoutcome would be the divine graces that benefit us. The school of obedience is shown in the today'sreading from the Acts of the Apostles. Peter and the other apostles wereexamined in the court then followed by the order from the Jewish leaders thatthey should be silenced. They were strictly forbidden to preach to the publicthe gospel of Jesus Christ. But because their education, learning and trainingon the virtue of obedience had been strongly rooted, they responded withconfidence: it is better for us to obey God than to any human being! They had undergonean educative journey with the Master Jesus that focused on the priority ofloyalty and obedience to God. By this means and strength, we are taught thatany sort of temptation or threat intending to lead us to disobey God must beresisted. Why is the Lord our priority in this school ofobedience? Because in Him and from Him all moral teachings, goodness, truth, beauty, glory, and holiness originate. He is the source of all wisdom andintelligence. So, if we consistently and faithfully choose to obey him, we willbecome His obedient sons and daughters in all aspects of this life and we willbe able to renew this world. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Almighty and most loving Lord, may ourobedience to You not go in vain and without fruits, but truly a reflection ofour commitment to live with the obedience of Your Son Jesus Christ, our Lord.Hail Mary, full of grace ... Delivered by Evelyn from the Parish of Holy Spirit in the Archdiocese of Singapore and Ria and Fanny from the Parish of Gembala Baik in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Acts of the Apostles 10: 34a.37-43; Rs psalm 118: 1-2.16ab-17.22-23; Colossians 3: 1-4; John 20: 1-9.ALLELUIA, CHRIST IS RISEN FROM THE DEAD The theme for our meditation on this Easter Sunday, the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is: Alleluia, Christ isRisen from the Dead. All those who associate themselves with Jesus Christ willspontaneously cry out: thank God. This is a common and simple expression, and thereare many others that are similar. The responsorial psalm expresses in words oftheological value, saying: This is the day that the Lord has made, let usrejoice and be glad because of it!" (Ps 118). The general reason for our positive and joyful expressionto be manifested in the solemn celebration, is that the Lord Jesus is risenfrom the dead. Sin and death, and all their influences are defeated by Him. Atfirst glance, but it is very real, it is realized that the enemies are veryfrightening and far stronger. It seems they never finish, especially becauseSatan never sleeps. Satan tempts and continues to bring us trouble. So for us, thereis always around us threat to fall into sin and finally encounter death. But it has been proven more than two thousand yearsago that Jesus Christ the Son of God succeeded in defeating all these evilforces. Starting from there, the whole world and humanity have the belief inaccordance with their respective religions, that sin and evil can be defeated.Every time either personally or together when we meet trials and torments ofsin and evil, we all always have a firm conviction, that all wil eventuallypass because God is with us and He always guides our lives. One very real and undeniable form of God's guidance isthat we always have hope. We are able to rise from the fall and sufferings. Inthe midst of today's various problems in the fields of economy, politic andsocial, our common attitude is to make joint efforts to fight, defendourselves, and care for one another, so that we are not defeated by the currentdangers. No matter how great the enemy is when confronted and fought together, and with the power of the risen Lord, that opponent will definitely be defeated. All the testimonies of the resurrection of the LordJesus Christ are truly indisputable. The testimonies shown very clearly, beganwith His tomb being found empty, He Himself appeared to the apostles anddisciples, including the moment He ate with them after His resurrection, and toa spirituality for all His followers in their journey of faith on earth.Christian spirituality is the style and spirit that we have and the fruit offollowing Christ. We die with Christ in sin and evil, but we eventually rise withHim to live forever with Him. To all of you and each of us, let us express avery precious wish: Happy Easter 2026.Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus, thank you for yourresurrection becomes our a precious gift for us both as we are in the world andafter our death in the eternal happiness . We have just passed the Good Friday with its experienceof loss, mourning and sadness occupying our deepest hearts. This situationmakes us feel like being abandoned and hopeless. Jesus Christ our Lord alreadydied and was buried. But today the Church tells us that there is hope and help.Jesus is our light and He is our faithful helper. Today from morning until lateafternoon, the quiet and calm moments accompany us to leave behind feelings andthoughts about mourning and loss, then we are led to a joyful light brought bythe risen Christ. One illustration can help us pondering this silentSaturday. If we enter a dark room or a house, we obviously can not seeanything. It is very difficult to find a space to step on. Like blind person,we can only "feel" our situation and existence where we are at themoment. We must be very careful with each step because otherwise we slip andfall, especially because we are not so familiar with the place or location weare. Such is the situation of life in the world where we live if without Jesusour Lord. There are many temptations in darkness. We can just step and fallinto temptations. But in God and His mercy we find light for our stepsand walks. This light is Jesus, and He dwells in us, in our families, oursociety and our Church. One light alone is very important and we do have it.While our surroundings are dark, we have and hold that light. We need to remainstrong in faith and continue to bring that light without having carried away orbothered by the darkness which might be increasing every time. So even thoughthere is only one and small light, the surroundings are threatened by it. Onelight that shines will surely make that darkness not anymore perfect. Jesus says, "I am the light of the world. Whoeverfollows me will not fall into darkness." The light of Jesus is notsomething physical or material like a candle or fire. That light is a spiritualguidance and a path to be stepped on in our journey to the Father. So, byfollowing that light, we are so guided and directed because Jesus Himself isour true light. By this light, we will know how to worship our Father inheaven, we will know how we relate to our neighbors and we will know how to bestrong in defending faith and doing the will of the Father. Meditating on the light of Christ that overcomes thepower of darkness really leads us to the celebration of the Easter Vigil, whichwe will soon celebrate with great solemnity. With all the preparations and ourspirit keep burning to meet the risen Christ, we truly welcome the Easter Vigiltonight, with great joy. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... Almighty God, protect us always who walk onyour path and do Your will under the guidance of Your marvelous light. Glory tothe Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... In the name of the Father...

Delivered by Gabriela Natani from the Parish of Good Shepherd in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Isaiah 50: 4-9a; Rs psalm 69: 8-10.21bcd-22.31.33-34; Matthew 26: 14-25.THE CHALLENGES FROM JUDAS ISCARIOT  The theme for our meditation today is: The Challengesfrom Judas Iscariot. Judas was one of the 12 apostles of Jesus who died earlierthan the rest eleven, and that was a very shameful death with very badreputation. We say this in order to distinguish it with the tragic deathsexperienced by almost all the other apostles who in the following decades diedtragically as martyrs of the Church. The tragic death of Judas was a veryundignified death. This story happened more than 2000 years ago, precisely when the death sentence was handed down to Jesus through an unjusttrial under the Judaism law. We who remember this event especially in everyyear around the holy week season, see it as a lesson rich with values to learnfrom. All of these are the challenges from Judas Iscariot that we need to faceand benefit them for our growth of faith in Jesus Christ. The most important challenge from Judas for us todayis the love for money or other material richness. A lifestyle that relies onlyon money, or a life is only measured by material richness of the world, iscommonly known as materialism. From this lifestyle arises various other crimessuch as theft, corruption, discrimination, violence and war. We, as goodfollowers of Christ, certainly do not want to suffer the same fate as Judas, just because we strive only for money or material things, that will lead us toa final emptiness and undignified death. The challenge of politicizing religion for us isanother important element to ponder upon. Both Judas and the other apostles andalso the Jewish leaders did have their common political interest. They wantedto have a Messiah, the great political figure for their nation and people. Withthe help of that Messiah, they imagined to have freedom from the Romancolonials. But they misunderstood and were fooled. Jesus was not for them. Inthe social life of our country, we are challenged to completely avoid the politicizationof religion. There must be no political influence in it, nor should a life offaith impose any political ways to simply divide the community of believers. Another challenge that we can learn from this event iswhat played by Judas, namely hypocrisy. The strategy was to hug Jesus, kissHim, then send a message to the executioners and the Jews to arrest Jesus. Whata play of hypocrisy can be made by anyone of us here, who deceive friends, families, relatives, neighbors, town, religion, nation and homeland only for apersonal gain! Whatever motivation for this act, it is always verymaterialistic and worldly. One can intentionally and easily deny who and whathe or she is supposed to protect and respect. We must fight and overcome allthese challenges in our lives today. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Jesus Christ, put in us courage and goodwill that we may avoid the attitudes of Judas in us so that we can live a holylife like You. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... Inthe name of the Father  ...

Delivered by Monika Kimmy from the Parish of Good Shepherd in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Ezekiel 37: 21-28; Rs psalm: Jeremiah 31: 10.11-12ab.13; John 11: 45-56.AGREEMENT Our meditation today is entitled: Agreement. There isa story about heaven and earth that always fight each other. Quarrels are theirdaily meal. Small things, trivial matters, simple problems often trigger theiremotion to dispute and fight. When the sky sends too much rain, the earthprotests. Likewise, when the earth sends too much steam up, the sky protests.Whatever small thing in their conversation can become the reason to fight. But at some particular times and if it isnecessary, they both agree to work together. When human beings behave so brutalthat cause the distruction of the environment, the earth agrees with the sky tobring punishment for mankind. The surface of the earth becomes dry and the landcannot produce plants and fruits. The sky does not pour its rain. But whenhuman beings take care and safeguard well the earth and its environment, theearth agrees with the sky providing fertility and warmth for human life and allthe living creatures. An agreement is born from the different sides orparties who come together to collaborate and work together. The function ofagreement is to preserve such cooperation and togetherness. From the point ofview of our faith, the difference between the authority of God and the power ofthe Evil one is very real and sharp. We know well that the Lord and Satancannot work together. It is impossible to find an agreement between these two. But if they can make just a single point of agreement,it is because of the Lord Jesus Christ and His mission. An agreement betweenGod's will and Satan's will be finally designed through the intention, planand act of the scribes, the Pharisees and the high priests. They were allgreats opponents of Jesus Christ. God Himself already authorized through thetestimony of the Scriptures, that Jesus Christ would die for gathering anduniting the scattered children so dear to the almighty God. The same view alsocame from the high priest Caiaphas who prophesied that Jesus of Nazareth woulddie to gather and unite the scattered children of Israel. This agreement had to happen, so that Judas Iscariot, after being possessed by the Satan, was able to carry out his duties. Anagreement must be made so that we can celebrate the Lord's events from thegarden of Gethsemane to Golgotha until the moment of the Lord's burial. Thewill of the Father in heaven must be realized, but to carry out that will, there is an opportunity for evil, violence, and sin to take their roles. Thisof course, applies also to us, therefore Jesus has established a covenant, that alldifficulties and persecutions will come upon each of his followers. When wecarry out His will, the temptations, difficulties, suffering, persecution willgo along with us. God sees, permits and approves it. An agreement indeed hasbeen made for us. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord, may we continue to follow the modelof Jesus Christ when we face all the sufferings in life. Glory to the Fatherand to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... In the name of the Father ...

Delivered by Elyanne from the Parish of Saint James in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Ezekiel 47: 1-9.12; Rs psalm 46: 2-3.5-6.8-9; John 5: 1-3a.5-16.WATER OF SALVATION Our meditation today isentitled: Water of Salvation. There are so many benefits of water for us humansand the world. Of all its benefits, what meant by the term "water ofsalvation " seems to be an abstract expression. The term "holywater", or "clean water", or "mineral water" is aconcrete expression and we immediately understand what it means. For example, the "baptismal water", we refer this to a form of water to signifythe Lord Jesus who uses water through the ministry of the Church to baptizepeople who have opted to be part of the Church.  So the term"water of salvation" should have certain reference which is concreteto our minds. For us in the Church, the water of salvation does refer to thephysical water which is an instrument that God uses to help His people in thejourney of salvation. The scriptures present many events in the salvationhistory to highlight the deliverance of God's people through water. Forexample, the Israelites crossed the Red Sea in order to escaped from the pursuitof the Egyptian armies. Both liturgical readings today also describe water asan instrument of salvation. The prophet Ezekieltells of the vision of water flowing in the temple. Wherever it flows, everything touched by it and the whole area become alive. This implies thatwhen there is nowhere to find any water, life must be so difficult or deathwill be the end of everything. In the pool of Bethesda, the water was veryinstrumental for healing the sick. They rushed over and were touched by thewater when it began to shake, they would recover. From these two descriptions ofevents we see that water as an instrument is a real physical element. Whereasthe power of the Lord to heal and save is actually hidden. This power works inand through the water. But in the pool ofBethesda, the hidden mystery reveals itself. The sick man who had been sufferedfor thirty-eight years was touched directly by the Lord who was actuallypresent and active behind the water. The sick man recovered instantly. Thewater of salvation displayed by the two readings today teaches us how importantboth aspects of physical and spiritual water are to us. To sustain our life inthis world, the physical water is obviously very important. If there is nowater we will die like the barren and dry land. The spiritual power and itsmeaning represented by the physical reality of water is that of the order andbalance of nature already designed by God for the good and salvation ofhumanity. Water of baptismalsacrament and as a sacramental element that we normally use in the holytradition of the Church, is a clean and healthy physical water, it isconsecrated for the purpose of our spiritual services in the Church. Themeaning behind this consecrated water is no other than God himself who worksthrough His ministers to impart graces, healing, and divine assistance to thepeople of God.   Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O generous and merciful Lord, make us like water that provides freshness, calmness, and healing for ourselves who need physical-spiritual healing, andfor our neighbors who are currently suffering from their illness. Our Fatherwho art in heaven ... In the name of the Father ...

Delivered by Enge Kristina from the Parish of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Micah 7: 14-15.18-20; Rs psalm 103: 1-2.3-4.9-10.11-12; Luke 15: 1-3.11-32.GOD'S MERCY ISNOT INJUSTICE Our meditation today is entitled: God's Mercy Is NotInjustice. Admiration and even our inability to understand the almighty God is whenwe think and ponder on His mercy. The most powerful expression of God's mercyfor us is His power to forgive human sins. The term "God is almighty"signifies the power of God to rule over everything and everyone, including theforgiveness of sins. For believers, this admiration and recognition of beinginsufficient in the presence of God is part of faith. As for the unbelievers, the omnipotence of God and especially the power to forgiveness of sins ismeaningless. The prophet Micah, in the first reading, expressed hisfaith with great wonder that no other God could forgive the sins of His people. He has the power to remove human sins. He threw all those sins into the depthsof the sea, into the deepest part of the universe. Micah has a story about the deliveranceof ancient Israelites from Egyptian slavery and deliverance during the periodof wandering in the wilderness. In line with this, Jesus makes it more concretethrough the parable of the prodigal son and his merciful father.  The positive law and principle of justice put the answerto an act of sin with the punishment due to the sinful act made. Unbelieversand people in general view that the Israelites who have sinned so much over andover again deserve to be punished repeatedly. The prodigal son must had receivedthe punishment correlated to the sin he had committed. The Pharisees andscribes considered sinners to be very dirty, so they were not to interact with them. This is all contradictory to God's merciful deeds. God is a merciful God. TheLord comes along and stay with them. He forgives them. This is what we meanhere as an injustice act of God. However, this act of mercy is not an unjust act. Anact of mercy and love essentially brings the sinner close to us and helps himto repent, through forgiveness and guidance to return to the right path. God'sreal will for them is that none of the believers should be lost from His care.It could be one of us, your friends or family members. Then, during this time, you can work with God to restore him from his current state of depravity bothphysically and spiritually.Letus pray. In the name of the Father... God Almighty, make us aware and eager to returnto You as the best way we can do, and living with You must the main purpose ofour lives. Our Father who art in heaven... In the name of the Father ...

Delivered by Nia from the Parish of Good Shepherd in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Ezekiel 18: 21-28; Rs psalm 130: 1-2.3-4ab.4c-6.7-8; Matthew 5: 20-26.NEW LAW REPLACES OLDLAW Our Meditation today isentitled: New Law Replaces Old Law. In this life, a change from good attitudeto bad attitude has happened a lot. Likewise, a person changes his evil wayinto a true one  also happens a lot. Thisis not because the change is automatic or a bonus for him. The change occurrsgenerally because it is intended or it is made possible to change. Humanfreedom allows this change to take place. One can choose to make a change ornot to change at all. The book of the prophet Ezekiel in the first readingcompares two areas that humans may take, namely darkness and light. Everyone isfree and deliberately chooses which area is preferred. Those who live in thedarkness of the world that is full with evil, have actually been good people. The leader of the devil before embracing evil, was an angel. Thus, many bad andevil people were previously good and right people. The Prophet said that such achange leads its way to destruction. The final result obtained from the choiceto live an evil life is death. There is no more help for the one who has chosento become evil. People who are already in hell can't be helped anymore. Those who live inGod's grace are those who live in the fullness of God's light, manifested intheir words and deeds. Precisely those who are highly praised by God and givenhope for an eternal life are those who give up dark life and live a new lifeunder the light of the Lord. Lent is an opportunity to have this kind ofexperience. Through our Lenten discipline such as fasting, examination ofconscience and the Sacrament of Confession, we renew ourselves to become newpersons. This renewal is madeso perfectly by Jesus, namely creating a new way of obeying God's commands andavoiding evil deeds. The old law stipulates a number of conditions for notdefiling and plunging oneself into sin according to the perspective at that time. The old law was replaced by Jesus by emphasizing more on the human aspect andnot on the rules of customs, habits, and views of great people or religiousleaders. The new law broughtby Jesus Christ is love. According to the principle of the law of love, anyaction that starts with evil intentions, thoughts, and plans is consideredsinful. It replaces the old law which only looks at sin when it is already amurder, destruction, manipulation, condemnation, and deprivation. In fact, whenthere are evil intentions or thoughts, one has already evil acts like anger andhatred, that later be manifested concretely. Thus, sin and evil really startfrom evil understanding, concepts, intentions, and thoughts. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O glorious and loving Jesus, perfect in our hearts the law of your love andenable us to love our neighbors following your example. Hail Mary, full ofgrace ... In the name of the Father ...

Delivered by Elyanne from the Parish of Saint James in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. Jonah 3: 1-10; Rs psalm 51: 3-4.12-13.18-19; Luke 11: 29-32.MORE THAN A SIGN OFWARNING The title for ourmeditation today is: More Than a Sign of Warning. When the Jewish leaders, religious authorities and scholars pressed Jesus to give them a sign for allmiracles He had done, Jesus did not want to give any. He responded them withHis silence. Eventhough He would say an answer, they would not understand andaccept Him. On various occasions and in kinds of words He expplained that Hehimself is indeed a sign from God, but they prefered another kind of sign. Theyactually did not recognized Yesus as the One sent by the Lord who is in heaven. The book of theprophet Jonah in the first reading shows that the people and the city ofNineveh who were known for their sins, heeded God's warning and recognizedJonah when he came to speak to them. God presented His signs through theprophet Jonah. Then the city, its leaders and the inhabitants listened to theProphet. The result was that they all repented. On another occasion, the Queenof Sheba who was not of a Jewish and a believer recognized God's wisdom throughthe King Solomon. This shows that Jonah and Solomon were signs from God. God'ssign through Jonah was the message of God's mercy for the people of Nineveh.Through Solomon God delivered the message of joyful wisdom to the queen and thewhole world. If our response is toaccept, acknowledge, and undertake the messages from God through human signs, things become easy and God blesses us with abundant gifts. We then have joy, peace, happiness, and salvation. The problem is that there are always humanreactions that do not hear, reject, and do not heed the warning. Obviously theresult is that they do not receive God's blessing. The reactions of the Jewishleaders, religious authorities, and scholars were even harder, as they did notaccept the signs from above. They did not acknowledge God to be more powerfulthan Jonah and Solomon. This is their big mistake, so the Lord warned themright away and strongly! We experience God'spresence directly through the preaching of His word. The Word is preached bythe various ministries of the Church as the light and source of our lives. Inthe Eucharist, the word becomes the Body of Jesus we receive and eat. In the sacramentof Reconciliation, the word becomes a gift of mercy that forgives and saves usfrom sin. In homilies, the word becomes a spiritual spring that satisfies thethirst of our souls. In pastor's blessing, the word becomes a spiritual forcethat strengthens our spiritual life. In spiritual songs, the word becomes agentle touch that makes us calm and comfortable. In the counsel of parents andadults, the word protects us. So throughout our lives the word of God isincarnated. We just need to accept and acknowledge that there is a God, andthen we fulfill His will. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O most loving and generous Father, fill our hearts with Your wisdom andlove so that we may grow in the way You wish us to be. Let us alwaysacknowledge You and Your plan for us. Glory to the Father and to the Son and tothe Holy Spirit ... In the name of the Father ...

God's work to savemankind from sins culminates in the presence of the Son of God becoming man in Jesus Christ. This divine work is a majortheme to be pondered in the heart of every believer, and especially to be moreeffective during Lent. This is to strengthenour faith in the events of Jesus Christ that we celebrate during the Holy Week.We who celebrate Easter, preparing ourselves during Lent, experience aprivilege closeness with the Lord by participating in the events of Christ.Jesus always emphasizes the principle of self-sacrifice that is to do the willof the Father to be realized in this world. That sacrifice signifies how eachof us is not just His people or His followers, but also His own brothers andsisters. He himself says that the greatest love is menifested in the sacrificeof oneself for the goodness and salvation of his or her brothers and sisters. We as children of Godthrough the sacrament of baptism that raises us to become His beloved sons anddaughters, have a special dignity of one brotherhood with Jesus Christ. Withhim, we call God in heaven as our common and beloved Father. All followers ofChrist affirm and embrace their brotherhood with Jesus, their dignity as sonsand daughters of God, and their personal and filial relationship with God asthe Father. The expression of this intimate relationship is manifested in theprayer of "Our Father". In Lent, of course wepray "Our Father" with the best quality of faith, as one form ofdiscipline in our Christian piety. This prayer confirms our brotherhood withChrist, and together with Him we greet God as "our Father". We saythis prayer many times every day because we want to strengthen our fidelity tothe One Father in heaven, who endows His gifts upon each one of us that make usremain close to Him. This happens in this way because of our communion withJesus Christ. The abundance offruits in us remain certain through the gift of God's word which is present toenlighten, strengthen, and renew the life of every believer. Jesus is no longerpresent in His body, but in His word. Through that word, each of us grows and bearsfruit, especially in the form of prayers that unite us with our Father inheaven. Prayer reveals what we do in fasting, such as forgiving and refrainingfrom falling into temptation. Through prayer we also express the intention todo good for our neighbors.Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Father of mercy, send your Spirit to help us and to accompany us to praylike Jesus Christ. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit... In the name of the Father ...

Delivered by Nia from the Parish of Good Shepherd in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. 1 Kings 11: 4-13; Rs psalm 106: 3-4.35-36.37.40; Mark 7: 24-30.UNITY IS A CALLING The title for ourmeditation today is: Unity Is a Calling. A 75-year-old man asked the ParishPriest to be baptized and accepted into the Catholic Church. His has been a nonbeliever person. The priest gave him special preparation before the actual riteof baptism served. Shortly after joining the catechumenate, his 72-year-old wifealso asked for baptism. So the Parish Priest prepared them together. When someasked them about this, they simply said: it is never too late to believe inGod. The step taken bythat elderly couple is a true expression of unity as a calling. God does notneed unity or fellowship, but we need it so we can be united with Him. Ashumans in this world our calling leads us to come the point of that unity. Butthis is not an easy thing to do. King Solomon's failure to maintain untiy withGod is an example for us. He did not follow the example of his father, KingDavid. Solomon's greatestsin that made him condemned by God was because he followed the will of hiswives who had no faith in God. His wives worshiped gods. God's wrath reallytroubled his kingdom. When the kingdom was continued by Solomon's son, itexperienced great divisions. The punishment for sin against the Holy Spirit isa destruction and cannot be forgiven, Jesus says this in the scriptures. Solomon wasresponsible for the division and the loss of unity that had been inherited tohim with a great trust. The most obvious of which was the separation betweenthe non believers and the believers. It's commonly understood that nonbelievers are the evil ones and do not have chance to believe in the Lord. The believerswill become defiled and unclean when they interact, touch, and communicate withinfidels. There is no possibility to have relationship with those unbelievers. They are basically considered as sinners.  It is precisely inthis sense we should say that the believers are the ones who create divisions.Unbelievers always try to live well as human beings and work for their livingin this world. In their hearts there are seeds of faith which are just waitingto be revealed, then they can look at and believe in God. Jesus opens the wayfor them. He opens the heart of the infidels, widening the way for them to walktoward God. Jesus is wiser and greater than Solomon, because he unites peopleof faith with those who are considered infidels. The same task that we mustcontinue at this time. Today it is not suitable to consider and treat others asinfidels!Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Lord of wisdom, enrich us with Your wisdom, that we can create andmaintain the unity among us, and not to destroy it with division. Hail Mary, full of grace ... In the name of the Father ...

There are many testimonies both directly from theperson and through social media about the danger of using a cellphone whilebeing recharged. People give warnings to one another not to make or receivecalls when the mobile phone is being recharged. They say that the cellphone canbe burnt or explode. There is already a lot of evidences about this and goneviral on the digital globe. The best advicepeople always give is that the cellphone must be idle or rested, therefore, theprocess of adding electrical energy to the battery is not interrupted by theuse of the same energy for our communication activities. That consideration hasa point, because the battery is like a warehouse. It receives the energy first, then later distributing it for various uses. The battery is not like the hosethat receives water and distributing it at once. The experience ofrecharging energy is spiritually illustrated by our readings today. KingSolomon was graced with such a great and strong kingdom from his father David. But he left behind for a moment the work of governing the kingdom and went tothe mountain of sacrifice, called Gibeon. There he prayed and made offerings toGod. In response, he received wisdom from God after he was told to make thebest wishes for him and his kingdom. A new energy really helps for a new job. Jesus and theapostles took available times for resting, praying, and strengtheningfellowship among them in the midst of their busy ministries to so many people. But in reality the people did not stop their desire to listen and askinghealing from the Lord. They continued following Jesus wherever he and theapostles went. After some moments of recharging energy, a renewed strength andenthusiasm obtained, with great  love ofa Shepherd Jesus exclaimed that He was "moved by compassion for them, because they are like sheep without a shepherd." Recharging energy or addinga renewed strength to the existing ones is very important for us in the processof assuming next task, new challenge, ongoing struggle, and various kinds ofdifficulty that may come any time in our lives. As believers, we have times forexamination of conscience, confession, daily and weekly eucharist, fasting, recollection, and retreat; all these are opportunities for us of regaining ourspiritual growth. If these are just spiritual activities in our routine style,we might find ourselves like a water hose: accepting energy and let it go atonce. It is better for us to fill up our spiritual storehouse with God's powerand love, and at an appropriate time we share it to a particular need. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Lord Jesus Christ, fill us with the same compassion as You always havefor the flock who needs a good shepherd . Glory to the Father and to the Sonand to the Holy Spirit ... In the name of the Father ...

In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus gives a parable about God's Kingdom like amustard seed. This is the smallest seed, but then it becomes large and usefulto the surroundings. This confirms that God does not always begin the work fromthings that are great, extraodinary, or considered great by man. It isprecisely from small faithfulness—simple prayer, perhaps invisible service, adecision to remain honest, or a forgiving heart—God nurtures that will one daybecome a refuge for many. A small seed in God's hands is never in vain. Jesus also gives the parable of the seed that thefarmer sows: the seed sprouts, grows, and then bears fruit, but the farmer"does not know how it happens." Here we are invited to realize themystery of grace: man can sow, he can carry, he can persevere, but it is Godwho gives true growth. There are parts of spiritual life that cannot be forcedby human effort. Therefore faith requires not only hard work, but alsosurrender—believing that God is working quietly, even when we feel that nothinghas changed. But the journey of faith is not always smooth. Thereare temptations, weariness, and inner wounds that cause man to fall into sin.It is like a seed that has started to grow but is attacked by an outbreak, pest, or disease that threatens it to be damaged. Sin is not just a "smallmistake", but a destructive force that can rob peace, crack relationships, weaken callings, and even kill the spirit to grow. If not taken care of, bestseeds can stop developing before they have time to produce their fruits. The Scriptures show that temptation knows no status:even God's chosen King David once fell into the sin of adultery. David's fallreminds us that the human heart can be weak when it is caught off guard, feeling secure, or allowing itself to be dominated by desire. But David's storyalso states something very important: God does not stop inviting repentance. When humans fall down, the way home remains open. God's grace is able to heal, but man's responsibility is to be vigilant, honest with himself, and returnimmediately before the wounds of sin deepen. Guarding the seed of calling or vocation, then, is aserious spiritual duty. We are called to take care of ourselves, take care ofour eyes and hearts, maintain relationships, maintain discipline in prayer, andmaintain sensitivity of conscience. Because the vocation of life is somethingnoble and must be maintained. We need God's protective grace every day so thatwe are not easily carried away by the currents of the world, not to beoverpowered by the whispers of deadly enemies, and not to underestimate thesmall doors that can lead us down.Let us pray. O God of all wisdom, make us seeds that arealways ready to be grown and fruited for the good of our lives and thefulfillment of the promise to attain perfection in You. Glory to the Father andto the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... In the name of the Father ...

People used lamps or torches forlighting at home and on the road. But in our day, lamps are hardly used becauseelectricity is already the light for the inhabitants of the earth. The mentionof the lamp in the scriptures and the teachings of the Lord Jesus remainsrelevant to us today, which is to put more emphasis on its spiritual message.  In darkness of the world either in our houses orelsewhere, people rely on the light they have in their hands, such ascellphones, tablets, or flashlights. However, if there is noelectrical-electronic equipment available, one of the intruments that people useis lamp. A burnt candle, kerosene torch, or wood burning have the sameimportance as lamps light that easy to find in our homes. The Lord Jesus used the symbol of the lamp to teach usabout the role of every believer as a lamp that has its flame. The Holy Spirit whohas been in us since baptism always puts His fire to enable our minds open tothe words conveyed to us and make our existence relevant to all the realitiesof life that we experience. The fire of the Holy Spirit also burns and warmsour hearts to enable us see and believe in the hope whenever there aredifficulties and pains that trouble us. There is lamp and fire in every one of us. God intendsto make every man and woman His co-worker. The followers of Christ are intendedtake part in the mission of Jesus Christ. So they are God's co-workers in thisworld. The function of the lamp or fire in every person is generally twofold, namely as a light on the way to God and a light for life in the world. The path to God is not always smooth and easy. Jesushimself even says that the way is narrow. King David himself needed divinelight in order to understand and live the trust that God had put in him. Thelong journey of life is often hindered by various forms of darkness. So thelamp in every person is very useful in illuminating and guiding along the pathand we know that the way to God is the way of Jesus Christ. The world with all its circumstances often becomesdark because of all its limitations such as ignorance, discrimination, lies, violence and death. Our mission as followers of Christ requires us to be lampswith the light that illuminates, guides, and enlightens the world. May ourlamps remain burning until the end of our life in this world. Let us pray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus, fillus always with the light of Your Spirit so that we may be more steadfast inbecoming Your witnesses in this world. Hail Mary, full of grace... In the nameof the Father ...

Delivered by Maria Olivia from the Kristus Raja Parish in the Diocese of Surabaya, Indonesia. 1 Samuel 24: 3-21; Rs psalm 57: 2.3-4.6.11; Mark 3: 13-19.JESUS APPOINTED THE 12 APOSTLES The title for our meditation today is: Jesus Appointed the 12Apostles. Jesus in the Gospel of Mark chapter 3 went up on a hill and calledthose He wanted, then appointed twelve men to accompany Him, to be sent, and toreceive power of preaching the Gospel. This act of "appointing" isnot just a choosing, but a divine decision full of power and meaning.  When God acts to appoint, He is teaching men about trueauthority: the power to lead, to govern, to shepherd, and to unite. God'sleadership is never intended to oppress, but rather to organize the people towalk in truth, to be preserved in love, and to grow in strong unity. We see a similar pattern in the history of salvation of theIsraelites. When God appointed David as king, he did not mean that he wasmerely "appointing a new man," but it also opened the way for Saul tostep down from leadership that was no longer in harmony the will of God. Goddoes not just change leaders, but forms a new direction for His people so thatthe course of the history of salvation remains in harmony with the will of God.David was appointed not because of his human prowess alone, but because he waswilling to be formed as a shepherd for the nation. From this we learn thatGod's decree always has a spiritual purpose: to lead people to repentance, restore order, and redirect life to His plan. So it was when Jesus appointed the twelve apostles. They werenot chosen because they were perfect, but because they were called to enter theformation process. The apostles' first task was not to do the great workimmediately, but to "be with Jesus": to be good disciples, to befaithful to the Master, and to keep learning from his heart. The faithfulnessof these disciples is the main foundation for the ministry. For one cannot be apreacher of the Gospel without first living in communion with Christ. Trueservice is born from a heart that knows God, not just from skills or positions. After becoming disciples, the apostles were sent to continueJesus' work in the world. But the mission reached its fullness when the HolySpirit was poured out on the event of Pentecost. From there the Church was bornas a living communion, not just an organization. The apostles became thebedrock of the Church, and through them, the responsibility of building upGod's people began: proclaiming the gospel, administering the sacraments, maintaining unity, and shepherding the people in love. This task was thencontinued by the Church throughout the ages, with her missionary and apostolicresponsibility: sent to the world, but still rooted in the faith of theapostles. The Church is like a spring of Christ and flows through theapostles to revive many dry places. So we are called to be faithful disciples, and to be part of the Church sent to present Christ to the world. Letus pray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus, strengthen us as membersof Your Church and lead us in the path of truth and life, so that this Churchmay be a sign of Your glory that rules the whole world. Our Father who art inheaven... In the name of the Father ...

In this Week 39 edition of the GMS Weekly Podcast, we unpack the latest ship-recycling market trends, freight dynamics, currency and steel movements, and key regional updates from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Turkey. This week's theme: Disconnect. Global Market Overview Dry bulk freight turned volatile: Baltic Dry Index ended the week with a net 2.5 % gain, driven by Capesize strength of about 5.5 %, even as daily readings slipped late in the week. Oil softened: WTI crude fell 1 % to around USD 65 per barrel, pressured by Kurdistan resuming crude exports after 2.5 years. Currencies weakened: Indian rupee dropped to INR 88.62, Bangladesh taka to BDT 122.04, and Turkish lira to TRY 41.58; only the Pakistani rupee strengthened, to PKR 282.50. Steel plate prices mostly flatlined, except India slid USD 15 to USD 409.20 per ton, weighing on sentiment. Bangladesh Chattogram stayed the quietest sub-continent market. Recycled steel failed to move, and larger LDT tonnage kept diverting to competitors. The taka closed at BDT 122.04, while 18 yards are HKC-compliant with more approvals expected next month. India Alang faced a tough week. The rupee weakened to INR 88.62, briefly near 89, and steel prices dropped to USD 409.20 per ton. Some speculative deals, like the 4,810 LDT container Niigata Trader at USD 480/LT LDT, look stretched as fundamentals deteriorate. Ongoing U.S. tariffs and sanctions continue to cloud Q4 prospects. Pakistan Gadani brightened the regional picture. Several bulkers changed hands, including Rising Harrier at USD 445/LT LDT and Puteri Kirana at USD 390/LT LDT (“as is” Surabaya). Strong local steel prices and a PKR strengthening to 282.50 support momentum, even as HKC compliance work continues. Turkey Activity remained subdued. The lira slipped to TRY 41.58, and local steel prices edged lower, keeping sentiment soft. Beach Breakdown With freight rates mixed and steel prices uneven, regional ship-recycling markets show a clear disconnect between fundamentals and bidding. When you order food through Gojek or Grab in Indonesia, you're not just getting dinner delivered, but you're also participating in what has become a sophisticated digital platform economy. These food apps have fundamentally transformed how millions of Indonesians eat, shop, and navigate daily life, while generating billions in revenue for tech unicorns that now rival traditional media conglomerates in their cultural influence. But how exactly are these online food platforms reshaping Indonesian society? And what happens when we compare their impact across different cultural and economic contexts? A fascinating new study by Nadia Egalita, a PhD researcher at RMIT, offers insights into these questions through comparative ethnographic research conducted in Surabaya and Melbourne. Egalita's research reveals striking disparities in how online food delivery operates across class lines in Indonesia. While upper-middle-class families with domestic workers and dual kitchen systems allow children to order multiple meals daily, lower-middle-class households use these platforms primarily as treats for kids. Meanwhile, in Melbourne, rising costs have made food delivery a luxury that forces people back into their kitchens, challenging assumptions about technology inevitably replacing traditional cooking practices. Using innovative “digital walkthrough” methods that examine participants' actual ordering histories alongside their stated preferences, Egalita uncovers the gap between what people say they eat and what they actually consume. Her findings challenge common narratives about digital platforms isolating users, instead revealing how families bond over scrolling through menus and negotiating meal choices together. The research also offers fresh perspectives on platform capitalism, digital labor conditions, and the changing nature of domestic life in Indonesia and Australia. We'll explore how these seemingly simple convenience apps are actually reshaping everything from kitchen design to intergenerational relationships, while examining the regulatory challenges posed by Indonesia's growing platform oligarchy. In 2025, the Talking Indonesia podcast is co-hosted by Dr Elisabeth Kramer from the University of New South Wales, Dr Jemma Purdey from the Australia-Indonesia Centre, Tito Ambyo from RMIT, and Dr Jacqui Baker from Murdoch University.
