DescriptionYour talks for Catholic audiences are too complicated, And mine are too!. Ha! Whether it's for teenagers, adults, or little kids we are packing way to much information into too tight spaces. So, as I've been asked to speak to Catholic Leaders about “How to Give a Good Talk”, I've developed four principles - CLEAR, COMPELLING, APPLICABLE and ACTIONABLE. These correspond to four questions every Catholic speaker should ask themselves as they are developing and delivering a talk: Is it Clear? Is it Compelling? Is it Applicable? and Is it Actionable? Today I am addressing Principle #1 - “Is it Clear”. And for that question, I've come up with an equation: SIMPLE + VISUAL = MEMORABLELinksFor more information about the Better Preach Podcast visit: www.ryanohara.org/betterpreachBetter Preach Podcast is now on YouTube. Not a good week for the Globalists, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Bianca Jagger, and a host of celebrities tell Pope Francis to leave the Latin Mass alone. Is this why the Vatican is reportedly backing down from their “final solution” to cancel the Latin Mass? Reflecting on Leadership in a Christian Key once again, we take on the injection of St. Paul to boast in our weakness, by which the strength of the Lord is shown. But what does that look like practically? And how might we form young Catholic Leaders in this principle when so much of leadership studies seems to focus on strengths? We ponder all this in more!
We take the classic approach to problem solving, as famously seen in Pope Francis's Laudato Si, of See, Judge, Act, and connect it with several themes listeners of our show will be familiar with! Good fodder for Catholic Leaders to reflect--and act--on!

Published: November 10, 2019 On today's podcast, Jim Friend talks with Julianne Stanz, Author of a new book entitled “Start with Jesus.“Julianne's challenge: “Take a moment and ask yourself: does every activity in my parish point more deeply to Jesus?” Julianne's new book aims to help parish communities make sure the answer to this question is a resounding “Yes!” Serving parishes in her diocese as the Director of New Evangelization, Stanz has recognized a practical and motivational way to restructure a parish's mission – to start with Jesus.Start with Jesus is a book about people, processes, and culture rather than an emphasis on quick fixes or unsustainable efforts. Julianne's approach aims to help regular people transform parishes from the inside out by growing in a relationship with Jesus Christ through individual and group experiences, thus transforming our parish communities.Julianne begins our interview today by talking about her life and career in Evangelization. She serves as a consultant to the USCCB's Committee on Evangelization with Bishop Robert Barron (Word on Fire). In 2017, Julianne served as Emcee for the National Convocation of Catholic Leaders in Orlando, Florida, and offered the keynote address at the International Catholic Stewardship Conference in 2018. Fiat. So spoke the Virgin Mary to the angel Gabriel. This is a word of creation––“let it be”––one that echoes the command of the Creator, who said Fiat lux, “let there be light”. With her fiat, Mary gave all she had to bear and share the Word of God.In Mary is the mission of the Church––from and for that mission comes a new program here at the McGrath Institute for Church Life with a name given in Mary's voice. The Fiat Program of Faith and Mental Health seeks to form Catholic leaders to better care for and accompany persons with mental health challenges and their loved ones. This effort comes from the heart of the Church's mission to bear and share the Body of Christ, caring for each member within the communion of his love. In practice, Fiat generates research, teaching, and formation opportunities to inform and strengthen sacramental and pastoral care that uplifts the dignity and goodness of each person. Fiat assists dioceses, parishes, and communities in fostering a culture of communion wherein the whole person is embraced and can experience the grace of Christian friendship and the sacramental life. The director of this bold and timely initiative is my guest today. Beth Hlabse is director of the Fiat program in the McGrath Institute for Church Life. With degrees in mental health counseling, theology, and peace studies, Beth has provided therapeutic care for adolescents and adults with histories of trauma and adverse child experiences. Her therapeutic approach is integrative, attending to neural-developmental influences and the intersection of spirituality and psychology. She brings not only her experience to the Fiat Program, but also a Catholic vision for the wholeness of the human person and an understanding of the interdisciplinary approaches necessary for developing the best mental health resources and forming Catholic leaders capable of nurturing mental health in the communities they serve.Follow-up Resources:Fiat Program on Faith and Mental Health“Integrating Faith and Mental Health, with Pat and Kenna Millea” on Church Life Today“Love to the Very End: A Theology of Dementia” in The Church Life Journal, by Xavier Symons“Profound Cognitive Impairment, the Virtues, and Life in Christ” in The Church Life Journal, by Miguel RomeroChurch Life Today is a partnership between the McGrath Institute for Church Life at the University of Notre Dame and OSV Podcasts from Our Sunday Visitor.
