Jen and Kim began recording a book review about Sometimes I Lie. It started with good intentions but ended up in the dumpster fire. So, they moved on to Kim's potential side hustle of rowing in slow motion on Only Fans. No, Kim isn't going to do that. They discussed the teacher who made A MILLION dollars showing her bootie and cootie. Also, according to the National Inquirer, there is trouble in paradise because Ben isn't picking up the poo. Stay tuned to Kim's rant about the research regarding learning styles not being real. Carvin Walls is a married country duo based out of Nashville, TN! Kelly (formally Carvin) Walls and Troy Walls are a powerhouse duo that could only be created in the heart of Music City! Kelly, a sassy, fun Jersey girl who played professionally in the NJ tri-state area as a pop/rock, hippie singer/songwriter, and Troy Walls, a down to earth country boy from West Virginia who was playing the Ohio river valley while making regular trips to Nashville for songwriting, both officially made the move to Nashville, TN in 2012. Shortly after, they met at a songwriters round and started writing together! The magic between them happened instantly! They began to play songwriter rounds together, and soon officially became the duo everyone was talking about! What is so special about this country duo? They are vastly different from each other and somehow, some way, it works! Kelly, raised in NJ on rock n' roll and pop while Troy was raised in WV on traditional country; both loving motown and r&b, combine their styles into an oddly perfect combination! When the two come together as writers, it mixes pop rock and country in a very organic way with a splash of soul, reminiscent of Mo-Town! Their debut album “Between Us” has been reaching fans across the country, with tons of requests on radio and a huge outpour of love and support! It has just the right mix of fresh, fun and real that fans are organically latching onto! Their album debuted at #59 on Itunes Country Album charts, and they were nominated for the 2019 NIMA Awards for “Duo of the Year” and “Performers of the year”! Their single “Sometimes I Lie” reached top 100 and “Hippie” top 80 for 6 weeks on Music Row Charts.

Alice Feeney joins us for a "Bookreporter Talks To" interview where we discuss her latest thriller His & Hers, which like her debut novel, Sometimes I Lie, is a Bookreporter Bets On selection. His & Hers has dueling multiple narrators, who tell unexpected sides of the same story in a murder case where the suspect could be any number of people. Anna Andrews, a television correspondent and Jack Harper, the detective assigned to the case, are early suspects in the very case they're trying to cover and investigate. But then there’s an anonymous narrator, who turns the story around yet again. Is this Anna, Jack, or someone else? With chilling twists and turns on every page, this is a book where you'll always be wondering who's lying. Because someone surely is. Alice and Carol discuss the many layers in the book, first with the characters on the surface, and then the many ways Alice was able to convey their inner shadows. Alice is an astute outliner, and it shows in the brilliantly constructed plot that has readers guessing at every turn. Carol asks, then, how Alice's process allowed her to make such compelling narrators and cast of unforgettable characters. They also discuss how her experiences at the BBC shaped her inspiration and research for Anna’s character. And for humor, they talk about Alice’s Kit Kat habit. My guest for The Happy Hour # 221 is Melissa Radke. Melissa is a singer, speaker, author, and momma. Melissa and her family will soon be featured on a reality show that, in her words, "will probably horrify her mother". Melissa and her husband David live in Lufkin, Texas with their two kids, Remi Hope and Rocco Cooper who they fought so hard for during 12 years of infertility. Friends, get ready because on today's show you're going to laugh, cry, and love hearing my conversation with Melissa! We start off the show talking about being brave while also feeling anxiety and fear. Melissa discusses how we learn so much through taking self-inventory and fighting the urge to point the finger outward instead of looking within ourselves. She also talks about how the reality tv show came to be and never in a million years did she think this would be part of God's plan! Melissa then shares the story of how she and her husband started out in Nashville and wound up in Texas, and faced infertility, loss of dreams, miscarriages, and broken trust in their marriage. She tells us how vulnerably sharing both sides of the story of her marriage brought healing. She says, "our most vulnerable stories are our most powerful thing", and I couldn't agree more. Hearing her story brought me to tears, but Melissa brings such encouragement as she talks about how our God is always faithful, and how He is constantly, always working for our good. {You can listen to the show HERE. And of course, I would love if you would share with your friends. Just use the FB & Twitter links at the end of this post!} Links from the Show Melissa's Website Eat Cake. Be Brave.
