The Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra is a spiritual sound. It's coming from the highest position in the spiritual world. In another song, not the one I'm quoting now, but it says, "golokera prema-dhana, hari-nāma-saṅkīrtana," that the sound of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, a sample of which you can give now, that mantra and the name, which is composed of names of God, is an avatāra also. It comes from the spiritual world into this world, and by hearing that sound, it's very much like The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy got bumped on the head. I think it was a tornado, because she probably lived... Where did she live? Kansas. Thank you. I've got to know my śāstra. She lived in Kansas, where there are tornadoes, and after being bumped on the head, she entered into a dreamland. She was unconscious, apparently, as we find out in the end, that everything seemed real, and there was a wicked witch and there was a good witch, and there was the Tin Man and the Lion and the Scarecrow. Thank you, everybody. I haven't watched it in a long time, and a robot. And, of course, there was Oz and then the dog, Toto, that one I remember. It was a harrowing experience she had there, fluctuating between the good witch and her benevolence and the bad witch, who was sinister and scary—for me as a kid, it really scared me thinking about that. And on the journey, she came to know an incantation by which she could come back to her original consciousness. Does anybody remember what it was? "There's no place like home." I think she had to click her heels also. If anybody wants to correct me, go ahead, because I'm not fully studied on this, but three clicks of the heels, "There's no place like home. There's no place like home." And by that mantra and clicking her heels, she came back into her home in Kansas, and everyone was worried about her. All her loved ones were there, and that was the reality that she came back to after that harrowing journey she had through the Land of Oz. And there's a way in which the Bhāgavatam describes how we're sleeping, or the song I'm talking about is we're sleeping, and we're having these dreams about our lives, our life situation. Sometimes it's very scary. And there's a way in which we sometimes feel we've come into good fortune, and we feel elated, but then we lose that fortune, whatever it might have been for, due to circumstances which people can probably relate to. And it comes and goes, and then there is a sound that comes and a mantra that comes from the spiritual world, and the avatāra who brings that to teach it to everybody, the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, is a sound of home. You can hear your spiritual home. First you hear it, or you can hear God first also, because He appears in sound. It's the philosophy behind the Kṛṣṇa Consciousness Movement, and Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu was teaching that the mantra itself is an avatāra, and by chanting it, we awaken from the dream and we come back to reality. Why do people think this is the first technicolor film? All these questions discussed an more as Unnatural Selection unpacks The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Jason Teasley, Chae Tate and Mark Radulich review movies currently on streaming services: The Wiz/Purple Rain/DreamGirls Movie Review! First up is The Wiz (1978). Then we move on to Purple Rain (1984). Finally we review Dreamgirls (2006).The Wiz is a 1978 American musical fantasy adventure film directed by Sidney Lumet. Adapted from the 1974 Broadway musical, the film reimagines the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum with an African American cast. Dorothy, a 24-year-old teacher from Harlem, is magically transported to the urban-fantasy Land of Oz. On her travels seeking help from the mysterious Wiz, Dorothy befriends a Scarecrow, a robot called Tin Man, and a Cowardly Lion. The Wiz was theatrically released the following year on October 24, 1978, to critical and commercial failure. The film received generally negative reviews from critics, with many unfavorably comparing the film to its source material. Some critics criticized the casting of Ross as Dorothy, while others criticized the direction of Lumet, who was considered a poor choice for directing a musical. Despite its initial failure, critics have become more favorable in recent years, and it has become a cult classic among audiences, Ross's fanbase, Jackson's fanbase and Oz enthusiasts.Purple Rain is a 1984 American romantic rock musical drama film scored by and starring Prince in his acting debut. Developed to showcase his talents, it contains several concert sequences, featuring Prince and his band The Revolution. The film is directed by Albert Magnoli, who later became Prince's manager, from a screenplay by Magnoli and William Blinn. The cast also features Apollonia Kotero, Morris Day, Olga Karlatos and Clarence Williams III.It grossed $70.3 million worldwide, against its $7.2 million budget. The film won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. Publications and critics have regarded Purple Rain as one of the greatest musical films. In 2019, the film was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".Dreamgirls is a 2006 American musical drama film written and directed by Bill Condon and jointly produced and released by DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures. Adapted from the 1981 Broadway musical of the same name, Dreamgirls is a film à clef, a work of fiction taking strong inspiration from the history of the Motown record label and its superstar act the Supremes. The story follows the history and evolution of American R&B music during the 1960s and 1970s through the eyes of a Detroit girl group known as "The Dreams" and their manipulative record executive. The film adaptation features an ensemble cast, starring Jamie Foxx, Beyoncé Knowles and Eddie Murphy with Jennifer Hudson, Danny Glover, Anika Noni Rose and Keith Robinson in supporting roles. In addition to the original compositions by composer Henry Krieger and lyricist Tom Eyen, four new songs, composed by Krieger with various lyricists, were added for the film. The film marks the acting debut of Hudson, a former American Idol contestant.Dreamgirls debuted in four special road show engagements starting on December 4, 2006, before its nationwide release on December 15, 2006. With a production budget of $80 million, Dreamgirls is one of the most expensive films to feature a predominant African-American starring cast in American film history. The film received positive reviews from critics, who particularly praised Condon's direction, the soundtrack, costume and production design, and performances of the cast, in particular Hudson and Murphy, and was also a commercial success, grossing $155.4 million worldwide.[4] At the 79th Academy Awards, the film received a leading eight nominations, winning Best Supporting Actress (for Hudson), and Best Sound Mixing. At the 64th Golden Globe Awards, it won three awards, including for the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

It's Nazi killing time on Creature Commandos as we get GI Robot's origin story. But am I being too nitpicky with this show? And if so is it because of bias or because I expect something more from James Gunn? Also: some news! Perhaps too much discussion of Better Call Saul! And some tough trivia. In this enlightening episode of Join the Docs, the ever-curious Professor Jonathan Sackier and the delightfully witty Doctor Nigel Guest dive deep into the gray matter (pun absolutely intended) to untangle the mysteries of the human brain and its trusty sidekick, the nervous system. Who are the guests this week? Joining this week is the insightful Ione Georgakis, an Occupational Therapist and Advocacy Manager for Tourette Action and Dr. Ed Palmer, a fellow Tourette expert and psychiatrist.. Ione and Ed bring a synapse-worthy amount of knowledge and compassion to the discussion, shedding light on the challenges faced by individuals with Tourette syndrome and other movement disorders. Their expertise in therapeutic interventions and advocacy adds a crucial nerve center to the conversation, underscoring the importance of holistic care and patient empowerment. How does the brain orchestrate movement? The dynamic trio pirouettes straight into the topic, exploring the brain's role as the maestro of movement. Tremors are likened to an over-caffeinated squirrel, while rigidity gets compared to the Tin Man pre-lube job, adding just the right amount of levity to complex concepts. When Parkinson's disease is discussed, The Docs examine it with a careful and informed approach. Diagnosing the condition, they explain, requires a balance of scientific knowledge and clinical judgment, as the symptoms can be subtle and vary from person to person. Treatment options are diverse, including medications and deep brain stimulation, a procedure that involves implanting a device to help regulate brain activity and manage symptoms more effectively. The laughs don't come at the expense of insight. Stories pepper the episode like synaptic sparks. Ione and Ed add their own heartwarming anecdotes of resilience and triumph, illustrating how tailored therapies and supportive communities provide vital nourishment for those living with movement disorders. What will you take away from this episode? By the episode's end, listeners will have a newfound appreciation for the pun-damental intricacies of the human brain, a smile on their faces, and perhaps an irresistible urge to break out into dance—just remember to thank your motor neurons! —--DISCLAIMER: The views and opinions expressed on Join the Docs are those of Dr. Nigel Guest, Jonathan Sackier and other people on our show. What is Thanksgiving without the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade? The annual march through Manhattan -- terminating at Macy's Department Store -- has delighted New Yorkers for a century and been a part of the American tradition of Thanksgiving since it was first broadcast nationally on television in the 1950s.Macy's began the parade in 1924 as a way to promote the new Seventh Avenue extension of their Herald Square location -- and to overshadow its department store rival Gimbel's. That first parade had many of the hallmarks of our modern parade -- from floats to Santa Claus - however it was much longer. Six miles! One major tradition is thankfully gone -- releasing the parade balloons into the air and encouraging New Yorkers to chase after them. After one near disaster in 1932 (airplane, meet balloon zebra) this curious contest was discontinued.By the late 1930s, the real world began seeping into the fairy-tale parade route, and during World War II, the parade was cancelled entirely -- a prohibition kicked off in a rather violent balloon deflation ceremony led by Mayor Fiorello La Guardia.Television would change the parade -- and the holiday -- forever. With NBC broadcasting starting in the 1950s, people could tune in from across the country, creating more opportunities to promote .... everything!By the 1970s, the parade was a festival of commercialism, a beloved kitsch-fest featuring lip-syncing vocalists, ever larger balloons, morning show hosts and product placements embedded within other product placements. But harsh winds and cold could be detrimental to the balloons and, sometimes, to the bystanders. Why will you never see a Cat In The Hat balloon in the parade again?FEATURING: A cast of B and C list celebrities, thousands of out-of-town marching bands and a few favorite balloons (Snoopy, Underdog, the Tin Man and more)Visit the website for pictures and other information about the paradeRead Greg's extensive article on the New York City connections of the film Miracle on 34th Street

The Wizard of Oz is a classic film millions have enjoyed since its release in 1939. Based on the children's novel by L. Frank Baum, the movie recounts an adventure between Dorothy, her dog, Toto, a Scarecrow, a Tin Man, and a Cowardly Lion on their way to get help from a great and powerful wizard. While the movie is revered as a cinematic masterpiece, it's also infamous for its disastrous production problems. There were many severe accidents on set that almost cost multiple cast members their lives. The most amazing thing about Wizard of Oz is that it even made it to theaters in the first place. “I'll be downstairs, asleep, without my head on” The panel of peril tie their hair in a couple of lovely plaits and don some fetching red slip-ons to watch this week's film Return To Oz (Walter Murch, 1985). Dorothy (Fairuza Balk) is plagued by memories of the wonderful land of Oz, and as such is completely unable to sleep. Shipped off to a suspiciously creepy ‘clinic' by her well-meaning Aunt Em (Piper Laurie), Dorothy soon embarks on a magical journey back to the titular fantasy land. But our plucky heroine is shocked to find that things have taken a turn for the terrifying in her short absence. Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7DWx9xL23Y ********PLOT SPOILER ALERT******** The Emerald City lies in ruins, its citizens – including the Cowardly Lion and the Tin Man – turned to stone. The perpetrator is the new ruler of Oz, The Nome King (Nicol Williamson). He rules the land with a massive stony fist, ably assisted by the witch Mombi (Jean Marsh) who has a nasty habit of collecting her enemies' heads. Can Dorothy and her pals, Billina the chicken, Jack Pumpkinhead, and Tik-Tok the clockwork robot – fend off the ghastly Wheelers on their way to dethroning the gruesome twosome? Subscribe today for access to our full catalog of bonus episodes, including 2+ new episodes every month! www.patreon.com/boysbiblestudy This stylish Christian horror film, possibly inspired by the SILENT HILL franchise, is based on a novel co-authored by the two titans of Christian supernatural fiction: Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker. These writers each sold millions of copies of their respective books throughout the 2000s, identifying and filling a niche for Christian supernatural thriller literature with exciting stories that still promoted a wholesome message. HOUSE is a collaboration between Peretti and Dekker, adapted into a feature film by director Robby Henson (THR3E) in a very lurid, saturated way that nowadays feels dated to the late 2000s, and could have been influenced by the burgeoning video game adaptation genre of cinema at the time. HOUSE as a film has interesting ideas but is barely held together with no narrative follow through. A couple experiencing domestic issues gets into literally three or four car crashes within the first ten minutes of the film, then stumble upon a remote cabin hotel with eccentric hosts who try to kill the couple before telling them the legend of the Tin Man, a psycho wearing a wooden mask who claims to have killed God. Weird southern gothic set dressing and video game-style quests hurtle the plot toward a disappointing climax where (spoiler alert) the Tin Man is defeated by light. It's barely coherent and barely Christian, and doesn't compare to other Peretti film adaptations we enjoyed such as HANGMAN'S CURSE (2003), but at least it's weird and funny with bold, bright colors that remind us how Christian cinema tried to merge with the secular in the chaotic and very silly decade of the 2000s.
