Star Fox 64 - N64 NA: July 1, 1997 Developed by Nintendo EAD. Star Fox 64 was the first game to feature support for the Rumble Pak peripheral. Star Fox Adventures - GCN NA: September 22, 2002 The last game developed by second-party Nintendo developer Rare before its acquisition by Microsoft. Star Fox: Assault - GCN NA: February 14, 2005 Developed by Namco Originally slated to be developed by the Ace Combat team, but that version was allegedly scrapped and the Klonoa team took over instead. In an unusual twist, the game as we know it began development in the multiplayer mode. Star Fox Command - DS NA: August 28, 2006 Developed by Q-Games. Directed by Dylan Cuthbert, who previously served as a lead programmer of the original Star Fox and 64 at Argonaut. According to Cuthbert, Miyamoto approached him and his company because he wanted to see more of the ideas from the then-unreleased Star Fox 2 (who Cuthbert was heavily involved with during its development) Star Fox 64 3D - 3DS NA: September 11, 2011 Developed by Nintendo EAD "At the annual E3 event during the Nintendo Q&A session held in June 2011, Miyamoto jokingly stated that he warned the developers that if Star Fox 64 3D was not the best game in the series, or did not make a lot of money, the franchise would have to be discontinued." Star Fox Zero - Wii U NA/EU: April 22, 2016 Developed by PlatinumGames A "reimagining" of Starfox 64 The game's development began with experimentation on leftover assets from a never-released Star Fox game for the Wii that had been worked on by a small group since about 2008. Star Fox 2 - SNES NA/EU: September 29, 2017 Release years by system: Cancelled – Super Nintendo Entertainment System 2017 – Super NES Classic Edition 2019 – Nintendo Switch Online Developed by Argonaut Games. Was originally canceled due to its proposed release date's proximity with the release of the Nintendo 64 and internal development problems. #Year2017 #2017inGaming #Podcast 2017 saw the release of numerous video games as well as other developments in the video game industry. The Nintendo Switch console was released in 2017, which sold more than 14 million units by the end of 2017, exceeding the underperforming Wii U lifetime sales, and helped to revitalize Nintendo, alongside the "retro" Super NES Classic Edition console, the refreshed New Nintendo 2DS XL handheld, and a strategy for mobile gaming. Microsoft also released the higher-powered Xbox One X targeted for 4K resolutions and virtual reality support. Top-rated games in 2017 included The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Persona 5, Divinity: Original Sin II, and Horizon Zero Dawn. One of the most influential games of 2017 was PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, which was released in early access for personal computers in March 2017 and by the end of the year had sold 30 million units,[1] breaking several concurrent player count records and established the battle royale genre. The highest-grossing game of the year was the mobile game Honor of Kings, known as Arena of Valor internationally. Considerable debate was held over the use of loot boxes in video games and whether they constituted gambling, coming to a head with the release of Star Wars Battlefront II. We're back! After a more than two year hiatus, Stian and Danny has returned to talk about retro games! This episode is about classic mini retro consoles such as the Nintendo Classic Mini, Super NES Classic Edition and the PlayStation Classic. Why did everyone and their grandmother suddenly go nuts for retro games when Nintendo decided to release an official emulator? What games should have been included, and which should have been left off? Which version of Street Fighter II is the best one, and why did they include different versions in Japan and North America/Europe? If Nintendo should have added a hockey game to the NES Classic, should it have been Blades of Steel or Ice Hockey? Who ever requested Balloon Fight? And does early polygonal 3D games from the PlayStation era hold up as well as the 2D pixel classics from the SNES? Listen in and let us know your opinion of the mini retro consoles at the Passion for Pixels Retro Gaming Podcast Facebook page. ALL OUR EPISODES ARE AVAILABLE FROM ITUNES! By request of patron David Morton: A look back at Kirby's Dream Course. Yeah, it's way out of sequence, but that's the law that was laid down. A clever if unforgiving combination of Kirby and golf, Dream Course has flown under the Super NES fan radar for decades now. With its fresh re-release on the Super NES Classic Edition, now seems like the time to reevaluate the game… especially since its cruelest elements can be mitigated with liberal use of the Super NES mini's save states.

Summer is upon us, and that means we have some time to catch up on games, look to the future, and -- oh, my god! Nintendo just announced the Super NES Classic Edition! I'm freakin' out! On this week's episode of the GamesBeat Decides, that sweet boy Bob Gardner joins the podcast along with hosts Mike Minotti and Jeffrey Grubb. We talk about Wolfenstein: The New Order, Nier, and more before getting into the news. In the second half, Mike and Jeff discuss their excitement for the Super NES Classic, which is a throwback miniconsole from Nintendo that features 21 of that retro systems games built right into the box. Then we spend some time talking about parity and the Xbox One X. Also, be sure to stick around to the end for an interview with sci-fi author Austin Grossman and Intel VR director Kim Pallister about how today's clunky VR can turn into the holodeck of tomorrow. Games discussed this week: Wolfenstein: The New Order Nier: Automata Super Mario 64 Factorio Salt & Sanctuary Star Wars: The Old Republic
