We're bringing back our Q&A episode, and this time around, we're dedicating the whole show to Metroid: Samus Returns! We're answering your questions, such as: despite it being a great game, is Samus Returns a great remake? Could Aeion abilities have regenerated the same way as in Dread, or would that have made them OP? Is the Surface theme truly an iconic song? Was the inclusion of the Baby Metroid one of the smartest ideas in the series? Is there still a chance Samus Returns could end up on Switch? Do we prefer Fusion difficulty to Dread difficulty? All this and so much more, PLUS some Godzilla talk and wishing a happy Pride Month to everyone! Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Subscribe! Podbean x iTunes x Spotify x YouTube Support us on Patreon! Mapping Metroid is back for another kick at the can, and this time we're going where we've never gone before: Metroid: Samus Returns! We're examining the fan favorite Area 7, aka the Chozo Laboratory, and breaking it down in great detail! We touch on the size of the area and its lack of items or boss fights, break down the three different Omega Metroid fights and what makes them so incredible, discuss the lore of this area as the birthplace of the Metroid species, analyze some of the crazy Spiderspark puzzles, gush about the amazing piece of music that helps this area stick out, and offer our opinions on the areas of Samus Returns as a whole and how the whole is greater than the sum of the parts! Transcrição do Episódio Música: Surface of SR388, Ancient Chozo Ruins, Caverns 1, Crateria e Lower Brinstar por Daisuke Matsuoka. The black sheep in the Metroid series, Metroid 2: Return of Samus, was originally developed and published by Nintendo for Game Boy in 1991, and has since seen two well-known remakes- the fan remake AM2R, developed by Milton Guasti and released for PC in 2016, as well as MercurySteam and Nintendo's official remake, Metroid: Samus Returns, released in 2017 for the 3DS. This episode is a compare and contrast episode, featuring all three games. Joining me for this episode are three Metroid aficionados- Matt aka Stormageddon ("Fun" and Games, Reignite, Screen Snark podcasts), Geoff Moonen ("Fun" and Games) and Case Aiken (Men of Steel, Another Pass podcasts). We're gathered here today to mourn & celebrate the life of a video game console, Nintendo's last handheld-only device, the small but mighty Nintendo 3DS.As of March 27th, 2023, the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS and Wii U will be officially shut down, meaning 866 Wii U games and 1547 3DS games will no longer be available to purchase. We've already dedicated an episode in the past to the Nintendo Wii U, so today we're taking a look back at our memories of the 3DS: our favorite games to grace the device, StreetPass & other quirky apps, its hit-&-miss use of its signature stereoscopic 3D gimmick, and some last-minute purchases we've recently downloaded & played in the eShop's twilight hours. Plus we wax poetic a bit about the death of digital media, the importance of video game preservation, and the ethics of p*racy & emulation (not that we know what tf we're talking about! we're just two gaymers with a podcast and opinions!) If you're listening to this before 3/27/23, we hope this episode provides a couple of last-minute game recommendations to download! Otherwise... we don't know what to tell ya, but thanks for listening anyways! Good luck finding a physical copy of some of these games on eBay I guess? RIP to the 3DS. You had a good at it, thanks for your input

Definitive Ranking is back for a brand new installment focused on Samus's first new (at the time) 2D Metroid game in over a decade, the apply named Metroid: Samus Returns! We're breaking it down, discussing the categories and topics such as: did the gameplay innovations made in Samus Returns land, or were they a little undercooked? Although the music was decent, you barely hear the best tracks, so can we rate music highly? Does the focus on combat take away from the atmosphere intended by the original Metroid II game? What's up with that brown/yellow filter the whole game has? All this and so much more discussed as we break down Samus's 3DS adventure in one of our longest shows yet. Come play along, and as always, here's the criteria for the Definitive Rankings: World / Atmosphere (the vibe, the setting, the mood) Art Style (design of Samus, the enemies, the graphics in general) Story (what works, what doesn't) Pacing / Progression (are there any parts that really bog the player down, or is it still fun getting lost?) Gameplay / “Gimmick” (what new or different gameplay aspects we like) Items / Abilities (how are the powerups and are they cool and practical) Areas (how does each individual area look, feel, play, etc.) Enemies / Bosses (are they fun, creative, etc.) Expansions / Powerups (are the expansions hidden throughout the world fun, creative, and enjoyable to collect?) Music (are we humming along?) Of course, all of these are subjective, and we're putting our critics hats on, but we want to hear what you have to say on Twitter! Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Subscribe! Grab a festive mug, fill it with your favorite hot beverage, and huddle up to your phone or other podcast listening device for a very special Pretty Pixels Xmas Special. Yes, I said “special” twice, because this episode is filled with holiday magic. Join us (Ron, Paul, and Joey) as we recall some of our fondest (and… regular-ist?) Christmas and holiday memories. There are surprises, fake-outs, a virtual grandpa absolutely demolishing his real-life family members in the ring, and yes, there is even a NINTENDO 64!!! *dramatic fist pumps* (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFlcqWQVVuU) And, for reasons I'm already forgetting even though we literally just finished recording, Joey shares a recent dream he had about Taylor Swift. She has a great Christmas song so that totally fits the theme. Kind of. Maybe. Let's move on. A Pretty Pixels Superstorm is sweeping over all four regular hosts this evening, and three of us are hunkering down and recording the much awaited sequel to Who Knew That Review?, which Joey has lovingly dubbed Who Knew That Review Part II! Paul joins the fray this time, as he, Joey, and Ron read old video game reviews, omitting key words and phrases, trying to guess the game being discussed. We were a little all over the place this time but we're finding a groove and looking forward to another round soon! If you have a game review that you'd like to suggest, email us at the email below. That aside, we also talk about the new PlayStation controller and cover colors, the massive Back 4 Blood update dropping tomorrow, and what we've been playing. Next week is a very holiday themed episode, with the same trio revisiting tales of Christmas Past, reminiscing about video game or nerdy gifts and memories. “Nintendo 64!!!!!!!!” Contact us: prettypixelspodcast@gmail.com We're on Twitter: @Losperman (Joey) and @bigbadron (Ron) 00:02:33: Sony introduces beautiful new Dual Sense and PS5 cover colors, coming soon (via PlayStation blog) 00:07:28: Back 4 Blood finally gets a massive update that addresses many gamer concerns 00:13:38: Ron's been playing Halo Infinite (as have we all) and running down a dream in GTA: San Andreas 00:22:00: Paul's been beating Mario at his own game in Mario Party Superstars and rolling around in Demon's Souls 00:23:16: Joey's finished with Jurassic World Evolution 2, has started Metroid: Samus Returns, and is blazing through Halo 4 00:25:44: Who Knew That Review? In the beginning, the Prime Chunk brought light unto the world. And it thrived. All was in balance. But the Deviant casts emerged. Agents of chaos. And so the YumChunks were sent forth as protectors. And After the Credits was formed to defend Castville. Sean spoke of Netflix movies, both good and bad, Chewie of The Nightmare Before Christmas live Halloween concerts, and Ryan of ranking apps and Metroid: Samus Returns. But they were not alone on this occasion, for a new champion joined their cause- Brian Rudloff of Marvel Star Wars Explorers joined in the fight and took part in the tradition of tragedy on ATC. Their stories culminated with the emergence of Marvel's Eternals. Did they find a solution to the moral quandries and overloaded character roster of the massive movie? Their story is still being told. Even now. If you just listen... to this episode! It's a big old chunky boy, but we explore every nook and cranny of the latest MCU entry. And we even squeeze in some emails! Listen in to the Celestial sounds! Thanks again to Brian for joining us and providing the comic reader's perspective on this huge thing of a film. Retrofecta is trying something new this month and we hope you like it! Ocarina of Time is a much lengthier game than we'd anticipated, so we're pushing the second half of our playthrough out until November, but in the mean time we're giving the Metroid 2 remake a go. Come join Kurt and Kenneth as they pop the game open while recording and then play through the first hour and a half or so (with all the dead air cut out as talking + jumping is pretty difficult). They were both pretty critical of the Gameboy version, so does this remake fix their complaints? Listen and find out!
¡Especial Destiny 2! ¡Únete a nuestra familia y comenta! – A qué estamos jugando: Metroid: Samus Returns, Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy y Downwell. – Comentarios y despedida.
This week's guest is an especially special one: Walt Williams, co-writer of Star Wars Battlefront II, lead writer of Spec Ops: The Line, and author of games-industry memoir Significant Zero (out Sept. 19!). Inspired by Walt's stories of youthful thievery, we focus this week's Top 5 on thieves who decided to work together and became like family in the process. (Fair warning, it takes us about an hour and 17 minutes to get there.) Then we get real chatty about Metroid: Samus Returns, new iPhones, SNES Classic reassurances, and your most memorable game-launch stories.
On this week's show we go over the latest game releases, talk a bit about the Nintendo Direect that aired a few days ago and the headlines it brought with it, and finally, because I can't help myself we touch ever so slightly on Destiny 2's post game content. This week's discussion topics include the announcement that Bethesda's Doom and upcoming Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus are headed to the Nintendo Switch. Buffa is especially smitten with the topic considering he's been eyeing Wolfenstein II since he got his hands on it at an event a few months back. We then briefly discuss Metroid: Samus Returns and the concept of remaking (not remastering) games from scratch. We wrap up the show by talking about Microsoft's Xbox Showcase which we had the pleasure of attending earlier this week. Thanks as always for listening!
