Two mics, one space heater, and a dream: we kick off the first week of Big Jay's Replays and tell the truth about building a local game shop from the ground up. From weather-thinned foot traffic to a rush of trade-ins—PS2 hauls, stacks of DVDs and CDs, and a shocker of vintage TMNT figures worth serious cash—we walk through the moves that matter: fair valuations, flexible appointments, and setting up play areas that make people linger. It's messy, real, and way more fun than the glossy version.Behind the counter, the numbers get interesting. We break down credit card processing fees by brand, swipe charges, percent-of-transaction rates, hardware costs, monthly support, and PCI compliance. No sugarcoating—just the actual overhead small retailers face and why some pass fees to customers. Jay doesn't. He's betting on loyalty, momentum, and the simple magic of a welcoming store. That spirit spills into neighbor relations too: clearing up a back-entrance issue, swapping a gift card for a cross-promo giveaway, and building a mini-ecosystem with the card shop next door so collectors hit both spots in one trip. Then we throw sparks with music discovery. Wolves at the Gate delivers melody and muscle, Stained With Silver brings moody cinematic textures, and Resistor's “Mutt” drops a turntablist into metal, filling a groove we didn't know we missed. We spiral into the wild world of “The John Candy,” AI-tinted visuals, and sample-packed chaos, before pivoting to EDM anthems, Eurodance nostalgia, and Little Big's “LollyBomb,” whose towering build-ups punch like a perfect breakdown. If you love retro games, underground bands, and the thrill of finding gold where the algorithm sleeps, you'll feel right at home.Stick around for holiday wishes and a promise to keep uncovering the good stuff—on shelves and in playlists. We break down the jungle-camp video, the chaotic lyrics, and why Aqua seemed determined to make every song sound like it was recorded inside a bouncy castle. From the Indiana Jones knock-off storyline to the hyperactive Eurodance production that could power a small town, we unpack every strange choice that somehow turned this song into a global hit.If you grew up with this on Video Hits or you've ever wondered how many “na-na-nas” it takes to get stuck in your head for a week… this episode is for you.DUBBY DUBBY is declaring WAR on big Energy! In this episode we get to meet Austra, which is the music project of singer/songwriter/producer Katie Stelmanis. In this chat, we talk about Katie's newest Austra record, Chin Up Buttercup, which came into formation in the wake of a sudden and devastating breakup - one so tough she said she essentially had to grieve. We talk about what it meant to her to be crafting these super-personal songs (maybe the most personal she's ever written) and then shoot them through the lens of electronic, pop, and dance music, especially Eurodance, which was a specific touchstone for her here. We talk about what it even means to grieve a heartbreak, and how there's no right way through it. It was great getting to chat with an artist I've been following since her debut (2011's great Feel it Break), and I was very grateful. Thanks for listening.
In this edition of our Inside Track podcast, we first discuss five tips for DJing Christmas parties. For DJs, it's one of the busiest times of year but also one of the most challenging. Whether you're just playing music at home or booked for the office party (or something bigger), here is how to survive and thrive behind the decks this Christmas.Next, we explore why 1990s Eurodance is suddenly cool. I mean, it was never really that cool in the first place, right? But it's certainly having a moment, and we know exactly why: it's a numbers thing. Finally, we chat about the one thing all good DJs have in common. It suddenly dawned on me the other day that I've been DJing for 40 years - played all kinds of gigs, all kinds of music, all kinds of styles, and seen countless DJs doing the same. And I think I've discovered what it is that unites us all...As ever, this was a really fun discussion, made more so by our wonderful live student audience here at Digital DJ Tips, who joined us for the recording. Thank you to them, thank you for listening, and we hope you enjoy the show.If you enjoy this podcast and you can, please do give us a five-star rating on Apple Podcasts. My Music Podcast: Mango in Euphoria – Punk, Pop, and Passionate TruthsIn this raw, joyful, and occasionally chaotic episode of My Music, host Graham Coath welcomes the bold, genre-blending artist Mango in Euphoria – a singer-songwriter whose name is as juicy as her sound. They dive into everything from the origins of Mango's name (inspired by her favourite fruit and a euphoric moment of rebellion), to her journey from France to London, where she found the freedom to fully express herself both musically and personally.Expect deep chats about:The emotional highs and lows of performing live (including crying on stage and still being cheered for it),Why she blends punk attitude with electronic beats,What heartbreak sounds like when you're a songwriter with no filter,The power of representation, pansexuality, and creating safe spaces at gigs,And her views on the music industry, DIY culture, and why she probably won't be repping at Eurovision any time soon.Plus, Graham and Mango bond over sweaty gigs, classroom chaos, and the importance of underwear-based merch. With a new EP on the horizon and a Eurodance single dropping soon, Mango is an artist on a mission to shake things up – unapologetically, emotionally, and with a whole lot of heart.

Big feelings for big rooms with the Club Heart Broken founder. Club Heart Broken is perhaps a misnomer. The party and label, founded in Cologne by MALUGI, may take its name from one of life's tougher emotions, but the vibe is all about unfettered, unadulterated joy. It's a state of mind its founder fully embodies—he's called himself the "happiest man in dance music." (We tried fact-checking this, but watching him perform seems proof enough.) Club Heart Broken's motto is simple: a party should be fun. A "party for lovers, loners and losers," the crew also made up of ferrari rot, SURF 2 GLORY and fellow maximalist Marlon Hoffstadt, represent the sound of young Berlin in the 2020s, notorious as they are beloved. Since relocating from Cologne, the party has snapped the German's capital infamously serious techno stereotype with its anything-goes, unpretentious music policy. It's made him and Hoffstadt especially in-demand worldwide—queues used to extend out of the door of Watergate and across Oberbaumbrücke. Musically, MALUGI is the most eclectic in the crew. His metaphorical record bag carries a lot of label material, from zingy Eurodance to upbeat pumpers, but also plenty of steppy, tuff UK bass music. Releases from Main Phase and Interplanetary Criminal, the likes of dubplate label ec2a, and even the odd Big Ang record pepper his sets, much of which you'll hear here. MALUGI's RA Podcast is a window into the more house-y side of his sound. From bubbling garage to chunky chords, RA.981 is a testament to MALUGI's belief: the best parties should leave you grinning, not crying. @malugienergy Find the tracklist and interview at ra.co/podcast/981.

Maximalist house from the sibling duo at the forefront of Berlin's new wave. Berlin is built on dance music. But of the many DJs who live, work and play there, few represent the evolution in the city's club culture like Tania and Dominik Humeres-Correa, AKA S-candalo. If the city was once governed by the tyranny of minimal, the post-pandemic era has cemented its reputation as the spot for "more-is-more" club soundtracks. It's still house and techno, but the chords are big, the drums are big and the basslines are even bigger. Nowadays, S-candalo are firm favourites at hotspots across the German capital, from Panorama Bar to Multisex and Radiant Love (not forgetting La Noche, their own burgeoning party). The duo find rich inspiration in '90s-era Latin house, a sound that takes New York house and incorporates rolling percussion from Latin genres such as samba, popularised on labels like Cutting Records and Strictly Rhythm (there's not one but two records from the latter in this mix). RA.956 fittingly lands at the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month in the US (more on that to come) and it's a resolutely fun affair. The duo's RA Podcast has got drive, sultry vocals and enough bounce to make you want to keep dancing way beyond the 90-minutes, marrying percussion-heavy house and ballroom with trance-inflected Eurodance from the '90s and early 2000s. (Oh, and a Shakira moment.) Genres aside, the duo's musical raison d'etre is pleasure. Perhaps the real scandal here is how it took us so long to get them on the series. @s-candalo @thc_dj @dhc_bln Read more at ra.co/podcast/956

Following their launch in 1991 with debut single "Get Ready For This", Eurodance duo 2 Unlimited enjoyed a string of more than a dozen hits around the world. What does that have to do with Stock Aitken Waterman? Well, in the UK, the act fronted by Ray Slijngaard and Anita Doth was signed to PWL Records at a time when the Hit Factory's in-house productions were often struggling on the charts. Techno tracks like "Twilight Zone", "Maximum Overdrive", "Let The Beat Control Your Body", "The Real Thing", "Tribal Dance" and chart-topper "No Limit" were the sound of the future, while, as we've seen, more traditional pop/dance tunes were having a tough time of it. In this bonus episode, we explore the success PWL enjoyed with 2 Unlimited and what it meant for the working relationship between Pete Waterman and Mike Stock. Ray joins us to share his perspective on the rise of 2 Unlimited and the approach PWL took with the duo's tracks in the UK, initially using instrumental versions rather than ones with Ray's raps on them. He also discusses his personal and professional relationships with Anita and producers Jean-Paul de Coster and Phil Wilde, and the current status of 2 Unlimited.Support the Show.Subscribe for bonus material at chartbeats.com.au/sawTwitter: @ChartBeatsAU, @MrMattDenbyInstagram: @chartbeatsauFacebook: Chart Beats: A Journey Through PopEmail: chartbeats.au@gmail.com
