In today's Daily Fix:In an ongoing lawsuit regarding Ubisoft's shutdown of the online racing game, The Crew, Ubisoft is insisting that customers don't own the games they buy, instead they're purchasing a license to play those games. Ubisoft claims that legal print in the The Crew, as well as on the packaging of physical copies, clearly state that Ubisoft can shutdown the game with 30 days' notice. This could have larger ramifications in the games industry, considering how many live-service games are already popular. In other news, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild will cost gamers a pretty penny if they're buying the Switch 2 enhanded editions from scratch. If you don't already own a Switch 1 copy of Breath of the Wild, a new Switch 2 version will cost a full $70, and DLC is not included (which is an extra $20). Current owners can upgrade for $10, and members of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack get it for free. And finally, kids are going absolutely ballistic for A Minecraft Movie.

We skip the first Wednesday of the month to give me time to pay the games for RTG, but fortunately we have a backlog of about 1,000 podcasts on Patreon to draw from to fill in the gaps. And this week, we have a big one for you. Back in 2023, Mark McCue joined me to talk about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. We kept the base review pretty spoiler-free, and then tacked on a spoiler cast at the end to talk about the finale of the game and some other stuff. Mark loves Zelda, I know most of you love Zelda, and I hope you love this podcast. Let's go! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Happy New Year and welcome to 2024! A brand new... FUCK. Why does the new year make some of dumber than usual? I don't know but I do know that the Grinders are back. Or at least, they will be. They still have one final episode before they return in 2025. They will be back with more of the insanity of Game Night, the thoughtful conversations of the Driver's Seat, and the fantastical Panic Room. But first, let's flash back... Back to the past. To an ancient time, I like to refer to as 2024. In that distant past the Grinders would start every episode with the latest news. Updates on when those games will join the rest of us in the future. Games like OFF, AI Limit, and Ys vs Trails in the Sky Alternative Sage may have been made in the distant past but will be arriving in 2025. They maybe from a past long forgotten but the Stinkos of history should never be lost. The past is seemingly doomed to repeat itself as Republicans, Democrats, racism, and misogyny never seem to go out of style. Democrats and Republicans worked together to give themselves raises while discriminating against the Trans community. Not to be out done, Disney made sure to spread their own brand of transphobia. Anyone who thinks misogyny and racism are dead, should see how her new (now former) fan base reacts to Caitlin Clark's interview about White Privilege. With the end of 2024 came the final episode of Panic Room. Well, maybe not the final episode but it is the last episode of the year that has long since passed. And it will be a good one, if Break can come up with something before time runs out. In the meantime, the Grinders talk about their favorite games of the year. Games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom stole many hours of Frank's life, and he has no regrets. Break surprised no one by choosing an RTS. And of course, Eric played a ton of JRPGs but only the best made his year-end list. With that, it's time to go back to the future! (Don't sue me!) The Grinders no not what the future will bring but they know they will keep showing up every month to game, complain, argue, laugh, and have a good time. Even if 2025 is a shit sandwich of never-ending stupidity, the Grinders will be back every month and just as crazy as ever! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! Tits! We're excited to welcome David Craddock, our Long Reads editor, as a special guest on this week's episode of Shack Together! David joins host Asif Khan and ghost John Benyamine, along with producer Joe Stasio, for an in-depth discussion on the latest gaming news and reviews. Most notably, we're all about Asif's recently published review of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Today's episode features a segment called "PMC: Playable Main Characters," where our hosts test their gaming knowledge by guessing game titles and characters based on cryptic clues. In our packed Story Time segment, we cover a range of topics, including previews of upcoming titles like Tales of the Shire and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and a comprehensive recap of the recent PlayStation State of Play event. We also cover industry news such as the SAG-AFTRA strike against Riot Games and the latest developments at OpenAI. And that's all for today's show! Thanks as always for listening and enjoy! Episode 174 "Gaming isn't fun anymore" - this is a phrase uttered frequently by lapsed or more casual gamers. Today, we delve into what this sentiment means and discuss whether or not it rings true. We then plunge into a lengthy, thorough debate about the quality (or lack thereof) of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. As always, we conclude with the games we're playing (Slay The Spire, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom). This episode was recorded in August 2024. Royalty free music from BenSound. After over 4 years, Mayanna Berrin returns to the podcast for a third time! This time, we have a lot to catch up on and share with you. Mayanna and I talk about her many accomplishments and projects out in Los Angeles. We talk about her Improv work in the comedy scene, being named in 2022 as one of the comedic writing fellows by Kevin Hart's Hartbeat and the Sundance Institute, and in 2023 getting a writing fellowship with Nickelodeon Studios. Plus, being a producer for Polly Pocket Adventure Studios, and as a voice actor for Fire Emblem Heroes. Mayanna also details how she and her writing partner get the ideas onto the page, and how pitching ideas works out in LA. If that's not enough, Mayanna talks about her experience playing Vampire: The Masquerade roleplaying game as a character on actual play series, New York by Night. We also talk about how she's now into Dungeons and Dragons, how she creates her characters, how many games she's in, and her upcoming work with TTRPG's and the actual play space. Then we circle back to one of our mainstays, video games. Mayanna talks games like Final Fantasy 7, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Baldur's Gate 3. It's hard to believe, but it's been one year since the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, so this week, we're reflecting back on the game and talking about how our thoughts or opinions have changed or been cemented now that the dust has settled. We discuss Tears' legacy as a sequel, as a standalone Zelda game, and where it ranks among our favorite Zelda games. Andy and Al both have strong opinions on the game, and they don't necessarily agree either, so get ready for a killer show! All this, PLUS we touch on Nintendo's announcement of the Switch 2 coming this fiscal year, what that means for the rest of 2024 and 2025, and our thoughts and fears surrounding that.
