We hope you've all had a wonderful New Year and are starting 2024 off on the right foot. We just wanted to share a trailer for a new show from our fantastic friend Ella Watts. We were there for early script readings (and you're going to hear Beth's voice in a later episode, although not, perhaps, in a way you've ever heard it before). It's going to be incredible and we can't wait to hear it, so we hope you'll like it too! David (aka Dev) Devereux's story is one of carving out a space of freedom online. A full-time sound engineer by profession, Dev is the founder of Tin Can Audio, a Glasgow-based audio fiction company which has become home to all the strange sounds and stories Dev wants to make. Community is important to Dev's story – from the community of wonderful voice actors and creators around Tin Can Audio to the online community, which Dev has engaged in interesting ways by opening up the creative process to the public (for example by making an entire audio fiction drama, from script writing to sound editing, live on Twitch.) Dev and I talk about the origins of and funny stories from the series made under Tin Can Audio, about the more unexpected inspirations for stories from video games to music to popular TV shows, the idea of demystifying the creative process and showing audiences how things are made, and about how much time goes into making something that's actually good, among other things. This episode features music from Dev's audio fiction (The Tower and Middle:Bellow, respectively) as well as excerpts from the audio fictions Tin Can, Middle:Bellow, The Tower, The Dungeons Economic Model, and Anamnesis featuring the voices of (in order of appearance): David Devereux Charlotte Ryder David Pellow Katrina Allen Mark Gallie Roger Best Links : https://daviddevereux.carrd.co/ https://www.tincanaudio.co.uk/

We're delighted to share on our feed a pilot episode from another of our favourite podcasts: Folxlore.Folxlore tells the stories of queer people living literally and figuratively between two worlds. In one sense, we try to live normal lives while the world tells us we are not normal. In another sense, our normal lives are interrupted by a very not-normal rift opening up between our world and another plane of existence filled with nightmarish horrors. This pilot series deals with themes of first romance, hate crime related trauma, and queer parenthood.Folxlore is rooted in everyday Glasgow, where monsters are always on the edge of your periphery.A collaboration between In The Works and Tin Can Audio. You can listen to the other episodes here: https://folxlore.libsyn.com/ Hosted on Acast. In today’s episode of How I Make Music, we drench ourselves in reverb once again to recap the highlights from the first five episodes of the show. Take a trip into the work of respected and acclaimed audio drama composers. Join David Devereux (Tin Can Audio), Gabe Alvarez (Starcalled), Nate Fisher (Observe and Report), Randy Greer (The Culling) and Erik Jourgensen (Heroics) in a 5-star musical expose! DAVID DEVEREUX, TIN CAN AUDIO Scottish composer David Devereux runs Tin Can Audio and has produced the audio dramas Middle:Below, The Tower and The Dungeon Economic Model. In this short insight, he reveals how imposter syndrome can make us feel dishonest for using software versions of instruments. https://tincanaudio.co.uk GABE ALVAREZ, STARCALLED Texas-based composer Gabe Alvarez writes and composes for Starcalled, an action space sci fi audio drama with an epic cinematic score. Gabe shows us that creators need to write and make the content that they themselves want to hear. https://starcalled.space NATE FISHER, OBSERVE AND REPORT Nate Fisher composes epic music for the sci fi audio drama Observe and Report, which tells the story of an earthbound alien called Zuri. He shows us how limiting it can be creating from templates to avoid compositions from all sounding the same. https://www.observeandreportpodcast.com/ RANDY GREER, THE CULLING The horror genre relies more than most on the interplay of tension and release. Composer for audio drama The Culling Randy Greer shares how the balance between them is required to make emotive music. https://www.randygreermusic.com/the-culling.html ERIK JOURGENSEN, HEROICS Heroics is a comedy podcast about superheroes who pivot to become evil. Composer Erik Jourgensen was given a budget to record live musicians for the theme, and repurposed the live recordings to create his own sample pack. https://www.erikjourgensen.com/ ABOUT THIS SHOW How I Make Music is where audio drama composers get to tell their own stories. In a dramatically edited sound experience, we challenge composers to break apart a song, soundtrack or composition and get into why and how it was made. Folklore: WerehouseDescription: Folxlore tells the stories of queer people living literally and figuratively between two worlds. In one sense, we try to live normal lives while the world tells us we are not normal. In another sense, our normal lives are interrupted by a very not-normal rift opening up between our world and another plane of existence filled with nightmarish horrors. This pilot series deals with themes of first romance, hate crime related trauma, and queer parenthood. Folxlore is rooted in everyday Glasgow, where monsters are always on the edge of your periphery.Listen to their showcase episode and read the transcript on our website: https://podtales.org/folxloreConnect with the show!Learn more about the show on their website: www.tincanaudio.co.uk/folxlore and www.intheworkstheatre.com/folxloreFollow Folxlore on Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/folxlorepodSupport the show!Support Tin Can Audio on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/tincanaudioBuy a ko-fi got Tin Can Audio: https://ko-fi.com/tincanaudioBuy Tin Can Audio's shows as albums and soundtracks on Bandcamp: https://tincanaudio.bandcamp.comLeave them a review on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/folxlore/id1495636313Leave them a review on Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/folxlore-1017775Talk about the show over on our Discord!Head on over to the PodTales 2020 Discord to share your love for the show: https://www.podtales.org/discordSupport PodTales on Patreon!Help us develop programing to support and celebrate the fiction podcasting community. Middle Below is an audio drama about ghosts, cats, and the slightly odd people who look after them.' There is a world that runs parallel to ours, a world filled with ghosts. They call it 'The Below.’ Middle:Below is the story of a disgruntled traveler, a frustrated writer, a slightly nervous ghost and a very enigmatic cat. Whatever adventures await them, we can be certain, that bad things will happen.I first came across David Devereux’s writing and acting in the fantastic Tin Can Audio which pulls you right in from the start. When I heard about the new show Middle Below I was immediately interested and excited, and the first season has been everything I hoped for and more. Well written, extremely well acted, funny, happy, sad and even scary at times. I was over the moon to get the chance to make this crossover happen and to bring out worlds together. In 2 Corinthians 4, Paul seeks to put into perspective the trials of this life compared with the glory that is to come after. In doing so, he calls the sufferings of this life a “light affliction.” We may consider this a gross understatement, but when we look closer at what he means, the perspective shift happens. You're listening to Tin Can Audio Presents. Up next, we have Middle:BelowMiddle:Below is a show about ghosts, cats, and the slightly odd people who look after them. It is a light-hearted comedy-horror show featuring the voices of David Pellow, Charlotte Ryder and Megan 'Bucky' Buchanan. This was our first big show as Tin Can Audio. I'd previously made a (more-or-less) solo audio drama project called Tin Can and, following on from how well it had been received, I wanted to make something bigger, and weirder.I have very fond memories of this show. We were a bunch of nerds trying to figure out how to make something and seeing how far we got with that, and we ended up going a lot further than we thought we would. It's a scrappy little show, and I hope you enjoy listening to it. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
