This episode is all about near-death experiences, what they are, who has them, what is behind them and how they affect the lives of the people who experience them. Dr Greyson has been researching the subject of NDEs for nearly 50 years, so this is an in-depth and fascinating discussion of a phenomenon that happens to people of all ages and backgrounds, across the world. Dr Greyson shares some of the results of his research. Including, why many suicidal people find a new zest for life after an NDE, whether some people´s NDEs are not a peaceful experience and what children see during an NDE. They also discuss some other spontaneous mystical experiences that certain drugs or medical conditions can trigger. KEY TAKEAWAYS Near-death experiences are very common, about 1 in 20 people that come close to death experience them. All kinds of people have them. What caused them to come close to death, their age, and their beliefs do not seem to have an impact. There is still some dissent amongst doctors about NDEs, but both patients and doctors are now more willing to discuss the subject. People in different countries use different words, depending on their culture and surroundings, but are describing the same thing. People who are very controlling in life find suddenly not being in control very unpleasant, sometimes terrifying. For people who attempt suicide having a NDE often helps them to heal. People do have dreams that come true, sometimes in great detail. Yvonne shares her experience of this. Some people who have come back, feel compelled to change their life, including their jobs. Children have similar NDEs as adults do. Most near-death experiencers say that the physical reasons for being afraid are not important. BEST MOMENTS “There just didn´t seem to be any explanation in terms of the brain to account for these experiences.” “They often say it's more real than this world is, and there's no doubt in their mind that we do not die permanently.” “The culture determines, in part, how you interpret the experience.” “There are also people who describe the traditional hell features, fire, brimstone and demons, but they're very rare.” “In some cases, we have experiencers who encounter deceased individuals who are not known yet by the experiencer to be dead.” “And he came back realizing … when you hurt other people, you hurt yourself. He's not a professional comic but laughter comes easy for David Thomas. It's actually one field that he hasn't tried professionally, but would love to some day. Thomas is a Global Professional Speaker and a CEO Presentation Skills Coach. In case you haven't heard about his crazy memory abilities, he's also an International Grandmaster of Memory, broken Guinness record for reciting Pi to 22,500 digits, became US Memory Champion and so much more. From the age of 4, David recalls the nightly sexual abuse he suffered from his alcoholic mother, Gillian and then the years of physical abuse from his step-father. David had a younger brother to protect, so he kept this secret to himself to be certain that his younger brother would not be exposed to any of it.Unfortunately, David's mother died in her early 50's, almost 21 years since the time of this recording. She died at a young age due to an alcohol induced heart attack. David was happy that he had put his neglect behind him in order to move forward prior to his mother's death. They had rekindled their relationship. As if the abuse wasn't enough, David also attempted suicide twice, but was not successful. When asked if this was life changing or a sign that he was meant to live a long life, his response was, "no, not at all, it meant that I was just terrible at trying to kill myself." Again, gallows humor, but it's easy for him to make light looking back so many years later.David wanted to help others who had suffered abuse under the hand of loved ones, so he wrote what turned out to be a #1 bestselling book in the UK, "Tell Me Why Mummy"- An inspirational true story of one man overcoming enormous odds including sexual abuse from his alcoholic mother to choose his own path in life and become and become a truly exceptional human being.Thomas says "you only have 3 choices in life as far as moving on after an abusive, challenging upbringing-You carry on living with your problems, but it will eventually take you down. You remove itOr you manage it"Therapy and researching and writing his book help free himself from the horrors of his childhood.Website: https://www.themotivationspeaker.com/david-thomasWebsite: https://www.creatingpresentationrockstars.com/ppl-homepage "Should Have Listened To My Mother" is an ongoing conversation about mothers and the roles they play in our lives. If you are in need of assistance, please access the resources in our show notes. Today, Jan is joined by Elizabeth Rose, who shares her story of neglect and childhood sexual abuse that began early on in her life. She talks about the normalization of abuse in her home and the grooming and manipulation she experienced. Being trafficked as a teenager, abandoned by her mother, and living in multiple foster care homes as an adolescent, Elizabeth Rose has a unique perspective on the systemic injustices that are faced by children who are neglected, abused and exploited. In this conversation, Jan and Elizabeth Rose discuss the importance of education, advocacy, trauma-informed care, and support for survivors of human trafficking. They highlight the need for community belief and understanding, as well as the role of legislation in preventing and addressing trafficking. They also discuss the notion that many people believe human trafficking only occurs far away, but in reality, it's happening right here in North America, often perpetrated by someone familiar to us. Lastly, they discuss the systemic failures in the support systems for survivors and the need for resources as well as education in the community. The conversation ends with a message of hope and resilience for all survivors and Elizabeth Rose shares about how being an advocate for others has helped her in her healing journey.Elizabeth Rose would like to highlight:The Joy Smith FoundationLuma & BloomIf you are someone you know is experiencing emotional distress or suicidal ideation, please access the resources below:National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline: Call/Text 988National Sexual Assault Hotline (RAINN) : 1-800-656-HOPE (4673)National Alliance for Mental Illness: 1-800-950-6264Subscribe / Support / Contact:

From a childhood filled with trauma, by 9 years old JC Almanza was already a gang member on the south side of Chicago; by 16 he was running drugs for the Mexican Cartel, and by 17 he was arrested and put in a Mexican Prison. After multiple years of incarceration, he eventually overcame addiction, prison, and personal demons. The catalysts included a year in solitary confinement, meeting his future wife, and finding Jesus. Today JC is a fitness expert and coach, as well as a mentor to inmates who he helps transition to a life outside prison. JC is a powerful testament that we all have the power to change for the better, even when we have every excuse not to. Sometimes those who look like they have the perfect life and everything going for them are the ones struggling the most on the inside. This conversation is a powerful story but a tough one to hear and even a tougher one to share but through clarity and courage, Drew Robinson is opening up to hopefully help others not suffer through what he and his loved ones endured. Former MLB player Drew Robinson is a good looking, athletic man, and was achieving success at the 1% level of playing a game he loved professionally…but what people didn't know at the time was the mental health struggles Drew faced everyday. Baseball exposed cracks in his facade of his stability, his adoration for the game wavered as he described loving baseball one day and loathing it the next. Drew detailed his life, family, friends and career path as Ryan leads into ask: What was the moment on April 16, 2020 that led him to make the choice which forever changed his life. Suffering from severe depression, Drew made up his mind he no longer wanted to live and attempted to take his own life after he wrote a good bye note, he reached for his gun and shot himself in the right side of his head, intending to end his story but it didn't. For the next 20 hours, Drew lived in his own blood, pain and the mystery of how he was still alive. Finally almost a day later of drowning in the confusion and aftermath of the gunshot, Drew had a decision to make, take one more shot or call for help…Drew dialed 911. Today, sitting across from Ryan, Channing and Fred, you see a man in Drew, who on the outside may look different but on the inside, is stronger than he's ever been. So many questions as the guys try to understand and make sense of it all…How did Drew live for nearly an entire day with a hole on the right side of his head, and another wound where the bullet exited on the left side, with no medical attention? Few people survive self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head, but even rarer are those who emerge with clarity and purpose as Drew has done. Despite the loss of his right eye, Drew's vision hasn't seemed more clear. He has spent the past few years after baseball working on himself, speaking publicly on Mental Health, talking to athletes and teams sharing his story to hopefully help others not go down the same path. So much has changed and so much was lost but now a few years later, Drew is realizing how much was truly gained. Gambling Problem? Interview was done September 19, 2023! I love meeting new people willing to share their “lemon to lemonade” experience! This story is about Allanah who experienced a vast decline with her mental health - nothing worked, and no one knew what was wrong with her. She felt inspired to go to a psychiatrist where she was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Then a new hurdle of questions- how to live life with this disorder, how did she get it, and more importantly how can she help others with this disorder. Allanah is currently editing her own novel where the main character has BPD because she needs people to know that they aren't alone, they can live successfully, and they are more than a diagnosis or label. What message do you get from this interview? ABOUT the LemonAid Stand: Heidi started hosting the LemonAid Stand live radio talk show, over 20 years ago, in 1999! It all came about when Heidi was dealing with thoughts of suicide, inadequacy, and dealing with infertility. She realized as she reached out to others and heard their stories, she would be uplifted and inspired no matter what she was going through. So this podcast has old "Original" shows from that time period. It also has "New" shows that are currently being recorded with new guests. And it has "Update" shows where Heidi reached out to original radio show guests to find out how the past 20 years have been! Theme song written and recorded by Heidi's baby brother Shane! Heidi is a motivational speaker and would love to speak at your event about how to elevate your happiness! First of all, thank you so much to Phil, our guest, who re- consented to allow this episode to be broadcast. This show has been syndicated but is was recorded for the Thirsty Bitch Podcast in 2021 - If you are listening from another podcast you can find Thirsty Bitch Podcast Here or search Thirsty Bitch Podcast from where ever you get your Podcasts. For legal, personal, and to be sensitive and protective to the guest and others mentioned within the podcast, this episode has been heavily edited from the original. As you maybe aware, its been many months since the last Thirsty Bitch Podcast. The one you are about to listen to was shelved. We thought it was inappropriate to bring you the episode, mainly due to the fact that our guest was in a very troubled place at the time and also felt it to be morally wrong in the moment. There was no happy ending in sight for our guest, at the time of recording, and felt it would feel exploitative for 'entertainment purpose' and possibly be more detrimental to Phil. It's been two years since the episode was recorded and only now, seeing the changes with our Guest, did I, Keyth David @keythdavid, think the story should be told. In a climate of increasing mental health issues, depression and personal desperations, it's very easy to isolate yourself and end up in a worse place. If you are going through something right now, I really hope this will help you reach out or take some kind of comfort in the fact that you are not alone. Whether this is Grief, PTSD, Depression or been apart of the Chemsex world then I have included a list of places that you can find help. This could be via phone, email, webchat or SMS. Lora DeVore is an incredible role model for grief and rebirth. She is an author, a therapist, an educator, and a catalyst for transformational change for both health care individuals & institutions. Her wisdom comes from the inside out, from facing the darkest aspects of human experience and mining the dark for the treasures that can be found. Born into poverty and violence, Lora was prostituted at the age of nine and she suffered unspeakable treatment from those who should have protected her. The impact of this early trauma led to her institutionalization soon after she started college, and an incarceration she would not have survived but for a courageous nurse, who fought for her release. Fifty years later, Lora has had a long career as a successful mental health professional, she is recognized as a leading educator, and she is also a sought-after public speaker.

I put this podcast off for a year - because I don't want to be a further hinderance on this hard, dark subject. However, this is a REAL issue facing our world…“Suicide is a major concern in the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide was among the top nine leading causes of death for people ages 10–64 and the second leading cause of death for people ages 10–14 and 25–34.” From the Mayo Clinic websiteWe can't skirt away from what's going on; we must put God, hope, & love into these hard subjects. “You just need to know you can outlast it.” – Art HamerEPISODE OVERVIEW: Did you hear the one about the bratty teenager who had to learn the hard way? You know, the one who moved out of her parents house in high school because of the strained relationship she had with her father. Today's guest not only talks openly to us about her journey through the early years of life (the highs, the lows, and everything in between), but also about losing her husband to cancer and at early age as an adult. How she got down, depressed, turned to alcoholism and food addiction. That's not where her story ends though. Today she's an HR expert, a consultant, a coach, and an author. And as you're going to see in this episode, her journey here was not without dark moments. She considered suicide, taking her kids with her, and so much more. This episode is packed! It's positive, it's real, it's raw, it's upbeat, it's fun, but it's also really serious and touching filled with 100 acts of love. Ladies & Gentlemen, welcome to the Kim Hamer story! GUEST BIO: On April 16, 2009, Kim Hamer watched her 44-yr-old husband take his last breath. During his illness and after his death, she was amazed by the helpful ways their coworkers, bosses, friends, and family supported them. Kim started calling their kind actions “acts of love”.After the death of her husband, Kim, an HR leader, noticed how little guidance leaders received when navigating cancer, health crisis, or death on their team. She knew their lack of knowledge negatively affected morale, employee engagement, and productivity. She set out to change that. Hannah's mom struggled with depression and drug addiction. The two were completely enmeshed; they were more like best friends than mother and daughter. Because of that, Hannah had very little supervision or rules. It wasn't long after Hannah's mother was sent to jail for having an affair with Hannah's 17-year-old boyfriend that she took her life. At the funeral, Hannah met her father for the first time. The following two years were the darkest she'd ever experienced. *Trigger Warning: Please note that this episode contains topics of suicide and sexual abuse. Emma Benoit was a popular cheerleader with a supportive family and friends, but on the inside she was hiding severe depression and anxiety. In 2017, the summer before her senior year in high school, she attempted suicide – which resulted in a spinal cord injury that left her paralyzed. Now she works to bring awareness to the epidemic of youth suicide through writing and documentaries, including 2021's "My Ascension." The new 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a US-based, toll-free hotline available 24/7 to anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress. Greg Dicharry was introduced to the world of mental health while living in Hollywood pursuing his dream of working in the entertainment industry. In that time, he was hospitalized and diagnosed with co-occurring bipolar and substance use disorders. Now Greg is a youth empowerment expert, mental health advocate, and filmmaker who served as Magellan Health's national youth empowerment director from 2007 - 2022. In 2008, he developed the MY LIFE program, which is one of the nation's leading programs for youth who experience challenged with mental health or substance use. Greg also produces and directs mental health related films including the documentary "My Ascension" with Emma Benoit.
