Want to go deeper? Read more here! Here are a few start questions to evaluate your media in light of Philippians 4:8: True – Is this factually true or speculation? Is it gossip? If it is factually true, is it being presented in an inflammatory or biased way to imply something that isn't factually true? Honorable – Will this help or hinder the pursuit of righteousness? Is it encouraging the morals and virtues laid out in Scripture? Pure – Is this free from impurity? Is it something that makes me fearful or confident in the Lord's work? Is the end goal focused on eternity and the coming Kingdom of God or temporal circumstances? Pleasing – Is this something that brings me joy or angst? Commendable – Is this something I would share with others? If so, would I do so confident that this would further my Christian witness and the hope I have in Christ? Excellence – Is this well done? Has this been crafted with care and a proper stewarding of the gifts of God? Worthy of Praise – Does this stir my affections for the Lord? Does it make me rejoice in His work and the giftings He has lavished upon the people He created?

TITLE: Finding Peace TEXT: Philippians 4:6-9 It is possible to… 1 – OVERCOME ANXIETY – V.6 How to overcome anxiety in my life... 1A. By conscious prayer – V.6a 1B. By thankful prayer – V.6b F.F Bruce – “…a grateful remembrance of past blessings is a safe-guard against anxiety for the future: It adds confidence to the prayer for continued blessings. Hence the importance of thanksgiving in all true prayer.” 1C. By specific prayer – V.6c 2 – FIND PEACE – V.7-9 Colossians 1:21 – “And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death…” Sinclair Ferguson – “In our modern world many people seek freedom from anxiety by trying to empty their minds; Paul teaches us that true peace can be ours only when our minds are properly filled.” Top 7 questions to consider before you think: Is it True? Is it Honorable? Is it Just? Is it Pure? Is it Lovely? Is it Commendable? Is it Excellent or Worthy of Praise?
Sometimes social media can be a bit, well, un-nerving! How can we make it pleasant? How can we use it best for our benefit? Leslie & Marie have some fun sharing personal stories and useful tips on how to navigate social media in midlife. What does social media have to do with Midlife? In a March 2019 article about Social Media in midlife, written by Carol Parker Walsh, she states that studies have found that for women in midlife, social media can enrich opportunities for support, connection, and networking. These increased opportunities have positive implications for women’s health, wellbeing and livelihood.Admittedly, it can be tough, especially for midlifers who are uncomfortable with technology. THE BEST ADVICE WE CAN GIVE - Write down your password! Hearing from our ListenersWhen we asked our Facebook followers what frustrated them most about social media, there were some very passionate replies.Cathy said - People airing their dirty laundry! Some things should be private! Also, vague posts, just say it or don’t.Alberta said - News stories without facts.Maggie said - Attention seekers and dramatics.Tara said - Meanness (It’s so easy to be mean on social media when you don’t have to look someone in the eye.)Questions to ask yourself before you post on social media:Would I be embarrassed if my kids/parents/grandparents read this?Would I embarrass my kids/parents/grandparents if I post this?Is this offensive or vulgar? Is this factual or does it simply support my opinion?Would I want my pastor to read this?Would you say it to someone’s face?Is my message cryptic or attention seeking? We have a challenge for you today:Use the T.H.I.N.K. testIs it True?Is it Helpful? Is it Inspiring? Is it Necessary? Is it Kind?If you can’t answer yes to at least one of these questions when you are posting, we challenge you to post something positive or encouraging instead and hashtag #midlifemadnesspodcast or tag our Facebook page in your post so we can see that you accepted the challenge. Social Media EtiquetteBe Mindful when tagging photos.Don’t use social media to vent.Understand that not everybody “get’s” your sense of humor.Don’t start a fight online that you wouldn’t be willing to start in person. Agree to disagree.Don’t drink and post. When in doubt, wait 24 hours to see if your post is a good idea.If the little voice inside head is telling you not to post something, don’t post it. That voice is usually right.Don’t be cryptic or passive aggressive in your posts. If you regret it, delete it.Be responsible and empathetic towards others (Kobe Bryant - Jim’s cancer).Tips to help you stay sane and not get upset when on social media:Use your privacy settings.Block people! If you find that you compare yourself to others, remember that you are seeing their highlight reel, not their blooper reel.Silence someone without un-friending on Facebook (snooze, unfollow).Have different accounts for business and personal. Not everybody is going to like you.We would love to hear from you! The words from our mouth gallop out like powerful animals that bring life or destruction. Paul gives us 4 questions to ask before we let the words out. It is True? Is it beneficial? Is it the right time? Is it grace filled? If the words pass those gates we are given one more question to ask. Is it to the right person?

Adam D’Augelli is a Partner @ True Ventures, one of the West Coast’s leading early-stage funds with a portfolio including the likes of Fitbit, Peloton, Hashicorp, Tray.io, Ring, Automattic (makers of WordPress) and many more amazing companies. As for Adam, he has spent close to 10 years at True where he has led investments in Hashicorp, Ring, Splice and Namely, just to name a few. Prior to joining the world of venture with True, Adam was an instructor at The University of Florida in Business Finance. Before that Adam was the Founder of Perfect Wave Records, a donation-based record label - helping bands better monetize the relationships with their fans. In Today’s Episode You Will Learn: 1.) How Adam made his way into the world of venture with True having had a slightly unorthodox start as an Instructor at The University of Florida? 2.) How does Adam think about portfolio construction today with True? Is it still possible to get 20% ownership on first check? Does Adam believe you can build ownership in subsequent rounds? Does this mean we are seeing the end to rounds being co-led? What does Adam make of pre-emptive rounds? How do True respond to them today? 3.) How does True think about initial vs re-investment decision-making? How do the decision processes differ? Does Adam believe it is possible to stack rank companies and allocate capital accordingly? What is the right way to tell a founder you will not be re-investing? How does Adam think about risk maximisation at a company level? 4.) As a partnership, how does True look to create an environment of safety where both conviction and concerns can be expressed? What should partnerships not do? Why is attribution so dangerous to this EQ of the partnership? How does the partnership work with the companies at a company level? How does True view board seats? How does True think about when is the right time to roll off boards? 5.) What were Adam's biggest takeaways from leading Ring's seed to their acquisition by Amazon? How does Adam think about the importance of market vs the importance of people when investing? How does Adam think about company failure, post-mortems and subsequent next steps? Bible Passage: Matthew 5:33-37Sermon: Sunday AMSunday 8th September 2019Speaker: Alastair McNeelyTitle: A Truthful TongueSeries: Sermon on the Mount Series______________1. Intention - Honesty v33.- Oaths we’re allowed to be made but only in the name of God. They are to add emphasis to an important promise. - Verse 33 is a summary of several OT passages - Lev19, Ex 20.2. Perversion - Deceit- Pharisees wanted to pervert that idea of oaths. They created ‘escape clauses’ to allow them to lie. They did this by using names similar to God’s name (but they never actually mentioned God) - heaven/ earth/ Jerusalem/ Temple/ etc.3. ‘Fulfilled pattern’ - integrity v34-37- Jesus condemns SINFUL use of vows and oaths. He is saying do not swear an oath if you are not going to keep it! (Jesus himself swore an oath before the Sanhedrin). - God is a everything - so don’t use anything to be a witness to a lie. Don’t swear a lie by heaven because that’s where God lives. “I swear on my mothers grave”... everything belongs to God so do not swear by them and tell lies.- Honest people should not have to make oaths or vows. There are times when people have to make vows, so be it. Take it and tell the truth. (In Court, weddings etc)The Gospel brings us great hope.Application- have you ever misrepresented yourself to impress others?- have you ever bent the truth to suit yourself?- Have you ever tried to impress others with a. Radical statement? Jesus wants us to be habitual truth tellers. He I Holy and he is Truthful and he wants his people to do the same.1. Tame the tongue. The most dangerous weapon in the world today. James 3. Lying dissolves our view of reality.2. Shun Gossip. There are many better things to do than gossip. We should challenge the gossip. 3. Be open. The natural tendency is to be closed. Some at haunted because they have not dealt with the things of the past. Speak truth in love.THINK:Is it TRUE?Is it HELPFUL?Is it INSPIRING?Is it NECESSARY?Is it KIND?Psalm 15:“O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill? He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart; who does not slander with his tongue and does no evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend; in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; who swears to his own hurt and does not change; who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.”Final Point:When we fail, we need to go to the truth. We need to go to Jesus. We need to be people of repentance. We need to go to Jesus because we will never be able to do it on our own. Make he guide us and help us as we go out this week.

Whatever you say or do can be misinterpreted by others - we’ve all been there before, but I encourage you (& myself) to speak up anyway! Take that (small) risk & share your voice. Here’s the mnemonic device I was trying to think of: THINK before you speak. Is it True? Is it Helpful? Is it Inspiring? Is it Necessary? Is it Kind? If what you have to say meets that criteria & you can fully support it, take that risk & speak up! :) Alesha

When a child comes home with a negative statement about math (I suck at math), we as parents often freeze because we may have had the same feelings when we were kids. In this podcast, we introduce the THINK process to work through math anxiety with your child. THINK stands for: Is it TRUE? Is he/she HONEST? Get INSIDE his/her reality. Have new INTERPRETATIONS. KEEP the most powerful interpretation.
