Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller at Shepherd's Grove Presbyterian Church
Pastor Bobby teaches on the importance for your life of being uncommon. This characteristic is necessary and helpful in your spiritual life, and is the key to being a happy person. Bobby shares five ideas to help gain freedom from people.
We are talking about what makes us an uncommon people. What sets us apart? Historically, Christians are most effective when we do this one thing together. What makes us uncommon people?
As Christians, we should be different, unusual, and different than the world in a good way. Fighting a battle with technology Charles and Graham settle down to their week of cultural activity. Graham reports on his visit to Yorkshire Sculpture Park focusing on the work of Robert Indiana. Charles brings up the cheesy possibility of a musical about The Osmonds, the seventies boy band of mormon brothers. Graham takes a look at David Hepworth's book Uncommon People and the duo discuss RYan Gosling's latest action film, The Gray Man.
Hound Dog, B-Dub and Slo Ride are in studio 77 talking about everything without anything to say. Is there a point to their topics? You know these guys, so no probably not. As they spin their tales they sip on Conviction, small batch bourbon and rate it as usual. What does Bourbon and Badges have in common with Seinfeld? There both a show about nothing. So, try to keep up and enjoy the ride. Support the show
Take a second to think about the things you do every day. Now, ask yourself if those habits will help you build the type of life you want. As a follower of Jesus, you're called to live an Uncommon Life, characterized by a different set of priorities and marked by different habits and devotion. When you devote yourself to creating the habits that Jesus has called his followers to have, you'll experience the benefits He has in mind. So, look at your everyday habits and ask, "Will this help me live a TWO FEET IN kind of life?"
It seems like anytime there is a tragedy, people send "thoughts and prayers" It happens so often that many people have forgotten how important and powerful prayer actually is! If you want to live an Uncommon life, you have to think about prayer in a completely different way. What would your life look like if you actually believed that you were talking to the God who created the Universe when you prayed? As a follower of Jesus, you have the Holy Spirit in you, giving you everything you need to pray bold prayers. So let's be expectant, dependent on God, and see what He can do through your prayers!
Have you ever heard the quote that you are the average of the people you spend most of your time with? When you look at your life, it's easy to see that the people you surround yourself with shape who you become. If you want to live an uncommon life, surround yourself with uncommon people. The Bible is full of stories of people living, giving, and going together to bring life to the people around them. In fact, whenever Jesus sent people out, he would send them together. So, who are the people walking with you as you become an uncommon person?
Have you ever heard a really great story that you can't help but share with someone else? Sharing stories of what's happening in your life is one of the best ways to communicate and build relationships. So, can it be so hard to share stories from the Scripture with the people in your life? Uncommon people don't stop at discovering God together and doing what he says. They share everything they've been handed with others people in their lives. We don't want to just keep all of the good God has given to us for ourselves. We want to share it and give it away constantly!
This week Pastor Chris Polito continues walking us through The Gospel According to Mark. He covers Mark 3:13-19. For more info about Gospel Community Church visit as www.gospelcc.net or our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/gccprice
Every parent knows how important obedience is to a relationship. When your children obey you, it shows how much they love and respect you. It's the same in your relationship with God! When you take what you learn from him and put it into action, you show him how much you love him. The uncommon change Jesus is offering you warrants an uncommon response. Take what you learn and put it into action!
Have you ever felt halfway devoted to something? Working out sounds like a fantastic idea until it's time to wake up early, head to the gym, and put in the work. The same is true for your relationship with God. Are you one foot in and one foot out? It's time to be two feet in, fully committed to discovering what God has for your life.

Often time we feel accomplish when we go just above what the standard is. We feel as if we have done something great by our working the average. The real test of our greatest is determined by how we fair in a room filled with high performers. How does your work ethic measure up to those who are striving for greatness just like you???? The goal is never to be above average , it's to be uncommon amongst uncommon people!!!
In April 2018, we welcomed veteran writer and broadcaster David Hepworth to Glossop Record Club to discuss his best-selling books ‘Uncommon People‘ and ‘1971: Never A Dull Moment‘ and his lengthy career as a music journalist, magazine editor and publisher. If you’ve picked up a British music magazine in the last 40 years, you’ll have encountered David’s work. From the early days of Smash Hits, to founding Q, Mojo and The Word, he’s been an ever-present figure in some of the most successful and influential music magazines. As a presenter, he fronted Whistle Test in its final few years alongside fellow music journalist Mark Ellen and was also part of the presentation team for Live Aid in 1985. Along with Mark, he’s also the host of the excellent A Word In Your Ear podcast, where he discusses music books with their authors. Hosted by Gavin Hogg. Recorded and edited by Simon Galloway.
THE KINGDOM OF GOD … UNCOMMON PEOPLEThe Kingdom Of God Is Like …Scott Young.com – Pastor of HOPE Matthew 13:47-48 - “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind, which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away. 1. Be Yourself Ephesians 2:10 - For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. 2. Give Yourself To God Matthew 13:49-50 – “So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” Romans 10:9 - If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 3. Let Other People Be Themselves 1 Corinthians 12:14-16 - Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? 4. Reach Everyone 2 Peter 3:9 - The Lord is not slow in doing what he promised—the way some people understand slowness. But God is being patient with you. He does not want anyone to be lost, but he wants all people to change their hearts and lives.
Jimmy Fallon's "I love this guy!" favorite Yacht Rocker Robbie Dupree and legendary rock and roll chronicler David Hepworth join me at my table on Talkish with Halli Casser-Jayne, The Halli Casser-Jayne Show for some rock and rolling conversation. Jimmy Fallon loves Robbie Dupree, and for good reason: Just listen to Durpree's music. It's been a long and winding road for Dupree but he thinks of himself as one of the “lucky ones”. From his tough beginnings in Brooklyn, to his Top Ten hits, ‘Hot Rod Hearts' and ‘Steal Away', which earned him a Grammy nomination in the early 80's for Best New Artist, Robbie Dupree's career has twisted and turned, traveled the peaks and the valleys of the ever-changing music industry. From the rich creative atmosphere of the late Sixties through his Woodstock years that were the Seventies, to his chart busting hits of the early Eighties and onward, Dupree's talent has never stagnated, ever-evolving, his associations with some of the greats of the music industry -- David Sancious, Larry Hoppen, Leslie Smith, Rick Chudacoff, and Peter Bunetta seeping into his musical soul. Eleven albums later with his contribution to the genre known as Yacht Rock, Dupree, it can be safely said, has met his heart's desire and reached the musical promised land. We steal away with Dupree in our first half-hour.Author David Hepworth begins his new book UNCOMMON PEOPLE, THE RISE AND FALL OF THE ROCK STARS with this declaration: “The age of the rock star, like the age of the cowboy has passed.” Neil Young, are you listening? In a rock and rollin' pep rally and memorial, Hepworth's elegy takes us on the long and winding road through rock and roll history, the up and down beats of an era that offered swagger and recklessness, charisma, self-belief, good hair and above all was riff with talent we could only wish to have. Larger than life but also like us, names like Harrison and Morrison, Elvis and Lewis, Nicks and Joplin, Chuck Berry, Madonna, Bowie, Prince and more come to life on the pages of Hepworth's book that tells the tales of the uniquely motivated nobodies who went about turning themselves into the ultimate somebodies, who shaped our realities and titillated our fantasies because, after all, UNCOMMON PEOPLE isn't just their story - it's our as well. Hepworth, a legend in his own right has launched several successful British magazines, during his long and storied career. He presented the definitive BBC rock music program Whistle Test and anchored the coverage of Live Aid in '85. He has won Editor and Writer of the Year awards from the Professional Publishers Association and the Mark Boxer Award from the British Society of Magazine Editors. He is the radio columnist for the Guardian and a media correspondent for the newspaper, and the author of NEVER A DULL MOMENT. For more information visit Halli Casser-Jayne dot com.
Check out this conversation between myself and acclaimed music journalist David Hepworth about the rise and fall of the rockstars. This guy has interviewed as many rockstars as I've hung out with backstage so we get deep into that rockstar psyche. Who they are, what makes one, and why we don't make 'em any more. And while you're at it, check out the dude's new book, Uncommon People, out now. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
