"Christians should not be talking about politics!" is what I heard when I was a young Christian. Is that true? How can Christians be engaged in politics in a biblically faithful way? What does it mean to be a political disciple? Should we as Christians stay out of politics? These are questions that we all must wrestle with if we are to have an effective witness in the world. Join Travis and Dr. Vincent Bacote as they discuss what it means to be a political disciple in a polarized world. Dr. Vincent Bacote is a Professor of Theology and the Director of the Center for Applied Christian Ethics at Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL.He is the author of Reckoning with Race and Performing the Good News: In Search of a Better Evangelical Theology (2020), The Political Disciple: A Theology of Public Life (2015), The Spirit in Public Theology: Appropriating the Legacy of Abraham Kuyper (2005), and has contributed to books including On Kuyper (2013), Aliens in the Promised Land (2013), Keep Your Head Up (2012) and Prophetic Evangelicals (2012).He is a regular columnist for Comment Magazine and contributes to other magazines, including Books and Culture, Christianity Today, Think Christian and re:generation quarterly, and journals such as Christian Scholars Review, Urban Mission and the Journal for Christian Theological Research. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and the Society of Christian Ethics. He resides in the Chicago area with his family. Travis and Vincent discuss what it means to be political, why the church needs to have a robust political theology (how God wants us to go about politics that is biblically faithful), common grace, and how our political theology has changed over time, as well as the very purpose of government. Vincent also discusses some other theologians and how they have shaped how we see politics today, names like Abraham Kuyper, John Howard Yoder, and Stanley Hauerwas. While they may be unfamiliar, they have affected how we view and even engage the political process today. Vincent also gives Travis some lessons on Jazz. Description: CW Allen from Sunshine Gospel Ministries shares about the Bridge Builders program he leads. Mission teams come to listen, learn, serve, and then return to be “bridge builders” for the gospel in their own communities. We talk about how to leverage the urban mission trip, not just to assist the ministry you're serving, but to equip participants to impact their communities afterwards too. Notes: @bridgebuildchi www.sunshinegospel.org www.bridgebuilderschicago.com Bio: CW Allen was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio where he grew up listening to Hip Hop music and fell in love with heart-pounding drums and bass lines. He began rapping his senior year of high school and never looked back. By that time he had already fallen deeply in love with God and His word so his music was just an expression of his heart and surroundings. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/missionworks/message

The purpose of biblical hermeneutics is to help us to know how to properly interpret, understand, and apply the Bible. The most important law of biblical hermeneutics is that the Bible should be interpreted literally.
Jesus' “seeing” helps us gain a new vision for our city so that we in turn may point people to Jesus.
Ash Barker & Graham Hill discuss serving Jesus among the urban poor. The GlobalChurch Project, podcast episode 4.From 2002 to 2013, Ash Barker with wife Anji and their children lived in Klong Toey, the largest slum in Bangkok. The Barkers shared life there, developing poverty alleviation initiatives, local leaders, and churches to transform the neighbourhood through Jesus.Until October 2013, Ash Barker was the founding director of Urban Neighbours Of Hope (UNOH), which the Barkers started in Springvale (Melbourne, Australia) in 1993. UNOH now has eight teams of Christian workers loving God and neighbours in some of the neediest urban neighbourhoods in Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland and Bangkok. After decades of leading and founding UNOH, the Barkers stepped out of UNOH and Klong Toey to move to Birmingham, UK, in November 2014. The Barkers are again immersed in the life of an urban poor neighbourhood – this time a Birmingham public housing estate – to seek transformation through Jesus there. An inspiring speaker and lecturer, Ash Barker is also the author of eight books including ‘Make Poverty Personal’, ‘Slum Life Rising’ and ‘Risky Compassion.’ He completed his PhD addressing a Christian response to the rise of urban slums (MCD University of Divinity). After 25 years of urban mission in Melbourne and Bangkok, Ash Barker with wife Anji and son Aiden are now immersed in the life of Winson Green, Birmingham, UK. In this episode, I interview Dhati Lewis. I love Dhati's heart and vision for the church and the mission; especially his passion for living the Gospel out in an urban context. Dhati moved from Dention, TX to Atlanta with his family and 40 other people to plant Blueprint Church of Atlanta. He believes deeply that the local church is the visible expression of the Gospel in our culture.
