Today we're talking to Nathan about understanding the history of science and religion, more specifically Christianity. Feel free to ask questions as we chat! Nathan Bossoh is currently a PhD student at UCL focusing on the history of science and religion through the life of a British polymath called the 8th Duke of Argyll. Before stepping into the world of academia Nathan had a background in music where he worked as a bass player for a number of years performing with various bands and artists in and outside of UK. In 2017 he took on and completed an MSc degree in Philosophy, Science and Religion with Edinburgh University online. Now as he is coming towards the final year of his PhD, Nathan has plans to pursue post-doctoral research on the history of race, medicine and religion in the British-West African Context. We are talking to Dr Josh Swamidass who has written a fascinating book on Adam and Eve using his scientific background in computational biology and medicine to discuss the tensions between modern science and the narratives of Genesis. What he finds is an interesting take on the origins debate that leaves a lot more room and a lot less tension between the various sides of Christendom. We hope to dig in to Dr Swamidass' conclusions a little further and their implications for our theology. -- Dr. Swamidass MD, Ph.D. is a physician, scientist, and Associate Professor of Laboratory and Genomic Medicine at Washington University in Saint Louis. He leads a computational biology group that studies information at the intersection of biology, chemistry, and medicine (http://swami.wustl.edu/). He is also a speaker for Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and Veritas Forums. Bruce is a long time friend and also a very clever man. His background is in mathematics and physics, computer science and philosophy, he is also well published in journals such as Bioethics, the Journal of Medical Ethics, Medicine, Health Care and Philosophy, BMC Medical Ethics and The New Bioethics. Bruce's research interests in bioethics include reproductive ethics, personal identity, conscientious objection in medicine, and euthanasia. Is evolution incompatible with Christianity? Is Genesis 1-3 literal history? We discuss this and more with Zachary Ardern. Zachary is a Christian and an evolutionary biologist using microbial genome and gene expression data to answer fundamental evolutionary questions and to understand microbial diversity better (we'll ask him what this means). Originally from New Zealand, Zachary is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), in Germany. Prior to this he was a junior group leader at the chair of Microbial Ecology at the Technical University of Munich, and later this year will move to the Wellcome Sanger Institute as a postdoctoral fellow. We are chatting to Inonge Siluka about her experience of moving from Zambia to Scotland and the impact it had on her understanding of Christianity. Today we are talking with Dr Ian Paul about the book of Revelation, its relevance to today. We'll be looking at how it is often misused and misread but also discussing his new book on how to access Revelation without requiring a degree in theology. Dr Paul has a background in mathematics but after working in industrial business, he was ordained in the Church of England where he did a PhD on metaphor in Paul Ricoeur and the Book of Revelation. Dr Paul has been involved in diocesan education and a member of the General Synod of the Church of England. He has also taught New Testament and Practical theology and was Dean of Studies from 2005 to 2012 at St John's, Nottingham. We're talking with Dr Peter Williams, the Principal and CEO of Tyndale House, Cambridge. He has an MA, MPhil and PhD from Cambridge University in the study of ancient languages related to the Bible. He has had several teaching and lecturing positions over the years in Hebrew and Aramaic alongside being a research fellow at Tyndale House, Cambridge and Affiliated Lecturer in the Faculty of Divinity in the University of Cambridge. He is a member of the Translation Oversight Committee of the English Standard Version of the Bible. Today we are talking with Clare Williams, founder of realquestions.co.uk (aka. Get Real). She completed her undergraduate degree in English Language and Literature at The University of Oxford, Jesus College and then worked as an English teacher and senior leader in various South East London schools for 10 years. Whilst teaching, Clare achieved an MA in Leadership and in the summer of 2018 she left the classroom for further postgraduate study in Theology at Wycliffe Hall.
