Welcome to Day 1997 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Give Away Your Riches – Daily Wisdom Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1997 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today's trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16&version=NLT (Proverbs 16:16)  How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!    If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Richard Fairchild, and it is: Andrew Carnegie, who amassed a fortune of over 400 million dollars, ended up giving 99.5% of it away. He said this about it, ‘The man who dies rich, dies disgraced.' Give Away Your Riches Andrew Carnegie was a business tycoon whose fortune today would be worth 6.85 trillion dollars. He was undoubtedly one of the wealthiest persons of his day and would be the same today. Yet, even with all of his wealth, he understood that you can't take it with you, and he gave nearly all of his wealth away. Most cities today still have a library that Andrew Carnegie initially funded. As Christ-followers, how we view possession, especially wealth, determines where our heart is. At best, we are to be stewards or caretakers of what God has given us the privilege to manage. We don't own anything. The rich man nor the pauper take material resources with us when we die. Yes, we may pass on some of those resources to our family or worthy organizations, but we will no longer manage them. What we pass on in the way of character and integrity will determine our heritage for eternity. We can instruct and help others, which in turn will help others. This is the impact that we have on eternity. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Timothy+6%3A17-18&version=NLT (I Timothy 6:17-18) Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. Welcome to Day 1996 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom God's Habitation – Daily Wisdom Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1996 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from A. W. Tozer, and it is: And what kind of habitation pleases God? What must our natures be like before he can feel at home within us? He asks nothing but a pure heart and a single mind. He asks no rich paneling, no rugs from the Orient, no art treasures from afar. He desires but sincerity, transparency, humility, and love. He will see to the rest. God's Habitation A.W. Tozer was undoubtedly a man who knew and understood God better than most. When Jesus Christ ascended to heaven after His resurrection, He left His disciples with the promise that He would send an Advocate, a helper who would dwell within us and instruct us according to God's Word. God's Spirit dwelling in us gives us everything we need to live a Godly life. Everything we need to be about building God's kingdom on earth, as it is in heaven. God's dwelling is each individual believer and all believers corporately; that is His church. Therefore, as the temple of God, we should maintain a pure heart and singleness of mind. God does not require great riches, for He has created it all. He chooses to dwell in our earthen vessels and desires us to have sincerity, transparency, humility, and love for Him and each other. He will take care of all of our needs. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Micah%206%3A8&version=NLT (Micah 6:8) No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Johnny Carson, and it is: And so it has come to this. I am one of the lucky people in the world. I found something that I always wanted to do and I have enjoyed every single minute of it. Enjoying Every Minute While I am more inclined to say it is by God's grace and providence in my life that brings me to the place where I can agree with Johnny Carson. If you understand and accept that you were put on earth for a reason. And ultimately, that reason is to bring honor and glory to God by building His kingdom here on earth, then will realize that it does not matter as much about what you do for employment, even if it is the high calling of a stay-at-home parent. Our calling and vocation as citizens of God's kingdom are to live in such a manner that the love and grace of God flow through you to everyone you meet. So find out how best God can use you in your world, and then choose to find joy even on those difficult days. God's grace abounds, and our lives and imagers of God should be to project God in all that we do. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes+5%3A18-20&version=NLT (Ecclesiastes 5:18-20) Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life. And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God. God keeps such people so busy enjoying life that they take no time to brood over the past. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Haruki Murakami, and it is: And once the storm is over, you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won't be the same person who walked in. That's what this storm's all about. Out Of The Storm Much like the pain of delivering a baby, or so I am told, when you are in the middle of a storm of life, it feels like you cannot endure. But, as with a newborn baby, once you hold that miracle of life, all the pain dissipates. Similarly, once the storms of life are over and you manage to survive, you may not realize at first that you have come through the storm. After the initial shock, knowing that the storm is over, you won't be the same person you were when you entered that storm. Your life will be changed. If your mindset is strong and positive, you will shine like the sun after a storm. You will have learned the lessons of the storm, and know that when the next storm comes, you have the strength to get through it. You will rejoice in life lessons that allow you to carry on. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2010%3A25&version=NLT (Proverbs 10:25) When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from J. C. Geikie, and it is: An undivided heart, which worships God alone and trusts him as it should, is raised above all anxiety for earthly wants. An Undivided Heart Much of our anxiety and frustration in life is caused by a divided heart and mind. We desire that which is short-term and fleeting as opposed to being willing to sacrifice for that which is better for us long-term. We don't trust God enough to be patient and wait on Him for the best for us. Instead, we settle for what is just ‘good enough.' Only when we become undivided in heart and mind and desire God's will for us, trusting in Him above all else, will our anxieties fade, and we will be satisfied and fulfilled in Him. Let us trust in God, allowing our confidence to grow, then fear and anxiety will control us less and less. Be undivided in heart and mind. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=James+1%3A5-8&version=NLT (James 1:5-8) If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. We are on Day 1992 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Tom Bodett, and it is: An optimist laughs to forget; the pessimist forgets to laugh. Laugh To Forget I realize that different people have different personalities and perspectives. Some are naturally inclined to view life through the lens of the past, others through the present, and still others through the perceived future. Some people or more pessimistic while others are optimistic. While I understand that part of a person's outlook may be genetic in nature, or shaped by their past, we all have a choice to view each situation in life negatively or positively. As I have mentioned previously, I am an eternal optimist, and I will reframe just about everything I experience or encounter through a positive lens and mindset. I don't know how to view life in any other manner. I must admit though when things are rough in life, I must choose that I will look for the good and benefits of every encounter, whether it appears to be good or bad. While we are in a situation, we don't fully comprehend at the time if the situation will ultimately be good or bad. Many times, God permits us to go through trials and tribulations that are difficult to shape and mold us into His image. So, choose to laugh in every situation, and you will soon find that every situation is an opportunity to laugh. Life in this physical realm is short whether you live to 10 years or 150 years, so learn to laugh at life and the road you are on will appear much smoother. Psalm 126 A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem. 1 When the Lord brought back his exiles to Jerusalem,[https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+126&version=NLT#fen-NLT-16093a (a)] it was like a dream! 2 We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, “What amazing things the Lord has done for them.” 3 Yes, the Lord has done amazing things for us! What joy! 4 Restore our fortunes, Lord, as streams renew the desert. 5 Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy. 6 They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Wisdom-Trek, and it is: An old man was asked what had robbed him of joy the most in his lifetime. He replied, ‘Things that never happened.' Robbed Of Joy We all fall prey to this syndrome at times. It is where we worry, fret, or have anxiety about what might happen. However, if you chronicle what causes you stress and then look back at it, you would soon realize that most things that consume us with worry never occur. We have little or no control over the remainder, so it is senseless to expend energy with anxiety. So instead of allowing fear to rob you of joy, cast all your cares on God, for He cares for you. Fill your life with gratitude and joy; there will be no room for fear and anxiety. A God who is all-powerful, all-knowing, and ever-present can undoubtedly take care of us. Trust and obey, for there is no other way to be joyful in Jesus than to trust and obey. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians%204%3A6&version=NLT (Philippians 4:6)-7 Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. Welcome to Day 1990 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Failures Are Practice Shots – Daily Wisdom Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1990 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Charles F. Kettering, and it is: An inventor fails 999 times, and if he succeeds once, he's in. He treats his failures simply as practice shots. Failures Are Practice Shots All famous inventors tried and failed dozen, hundreds, or possibly thousands of times before they came up with the correct combination to succeed. The problem is that most will give up long before they reach a reasonable level of success. Even today, with multi-processing high-speed computers running simulations or AI, it will take many iterations of a process before a successful outcome. Technology may speed up the processing, but it took many tries to make the computers we take for granted today. If you are unwilling to invest the time needed to succeed, then you will ultimately be doomed to failure. Once you succeed, you will need to continually reinvent yourself to stay ahead of the dozens of others who are improving your process or products. Failures on your quest are not the end. They are just practice shots where you are becoming increasingly better at what you are working on until you finally reach a level of success. Then after a brief celebratory victory lap, it is back to the grindstone to improve on your invention or pursuit. Do not give up. Run the race to win. Fulfill the destiny that God has called you to, no matter what those around you may say. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+12%3A1-4&version=NLT (Hebrews 12:1-4) Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God's throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people;[https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+12&version=NLT#fen-NLT-30176c (c)] then you won't become weary and give up. After all, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin.  As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' Thanks for coming along on today's trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16&version=NLT (Proverbs 16:16)  How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!    If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Bryant H. McGill, and it is: An intelligent and wise person is never afraid or ashamed to find errors in their understanding of things. Intelligent And Wise We should not be ashamed to admit that we are wrong or may have errors in our work unless it is habitual. Only a truly intelligent and wise person is also mature enough to understand that you gain intelligence and wisdom by making mistakes, learning from them, and then continuing excellently. Now, there is a point if you keep repeating the same mistakes and you are not adding intelligence or wisdom that you may not be intelligent or wise. Intelligence is the accumulation of knowledge, while wisdom is an accumulation of common sense and life skills. So when you make mistakes or have errors in your work or studies, you have a choice to add to your learning and wisdom and make corrections, or you become a simple fool. In the first situation, there is no need to be ashamed. In the latter, you should be ashamed that you are not gaining intelligence and wisdom. Choose wisely. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Timothy%202%3A15&version=NLT (2 Timothy 2:15) Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from A. W. Tozer, and it is: An infinite God can give all of Himself to each of His children. He does not distribute Himself that each may have a part, but to each one He gives all of Himself as fully as if there were no others. We are limited in our abilities and thinking because we are finite creations. We are controlled and confined within space and time. We can only be in one place at a time, and we experience life one moment at a time. God has no such limitations on Him. Therefore, we cannot comprehend a God who dwells outside space and time. Yet, according to God's revelation to us, through His Word, He has created us as finite creatures. But those same limitations are not part of God's character. I can somewhat comprehend everlasting life, but that is based on a fixed starting point. I cannot understand not having a beginning or end. I cannot comprehend being untethered from the limitations of space. We know that Jesus's resurrected bodies which we will take on at the last day, did not have the limitations our mortal bodies have today. We will be free to move within time and space at will. Since God is not limited as we are today, He can give all of himself to each of us individually. It is no different than if we were the only single-created human. God has no limits. Therefore, He can fill each one with His Spirit to dwell within us. His Spirit will teach, guide, and direct us in all we do. We believe by faith, even when we cannot understand. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah+55%3A8-9&version=NLT (Isaiah 55:8-9) “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Martin Luther King, Jr., and it is: An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity. Be Concerned For Others All of us tend to be self-consumed. We may not admit it, but in many ways, most of us act as if we are at the center of the universe. We become so self-absorbed that we fail to be concerned for others as we should be. Let us rise above our small individual worlds and show a broader concern for all humanity, starting with our family and close friends. God does not expect us to impact the world with His kingdom individually, but He does expect us to impact our world with His kingdom. If each of us, as Christ-followers, moves beyond self and focuses on the concerns and needs of others we influence, we will see the world change and God's kingdom come to earth as it is in heaven. Let us change our small world so we can change the world as a whole. Philippians 2:1-4 Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Sydney J. Harris, and it is: An idealist believes the short run doesn't count. A cynic believes the long run doesn't matter. A realist believes that what is done or left undone in the short run determines the long run. Be A Realist It is so easy to get stuck in the mindset of an idealist, wishing our lives and circumstances were what we desire instead of accepting life as it is. Yet, we don't want to be a cynic, thinking that what we do does not matter long-term. Instead, a realist understands that we need to do what is required today and that it does matter while we plan, prepare, and work towards what we need to do long term. Neither the idealist nor a cynic will not be successful because they are not focused on the entire picture and refuse to accept areas they may not have control over. So, as difficult as it may be, being a realist, dealing with life as it is, and working through the obstacles is the only successful long-term path. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+12%3A10-13&version=NLT (Hebrews 12:10-13) For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God's discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness. No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it's painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees. Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Dr. Myron S. Allen, and it is: An idea in a cage is like a silver dollar buried in the ground.  Both are safe, but neither produces anything. Don't Be Too Safe Ideas or plans kept to yourself and not executed result in nothing for you or the world. Our purpose, our vocation as Christ-followers, is to be salt and light to the world while building God's kingdom. If we remain safe in our little bubble, then we are not fulfilling God's commands to go into all the world to make disciples throughout our sphere of influence. Instead, we are to plant the good news into the hearts of those whom we rub shoulders with. Or else we are to water the seeds which others have already planted. We are not to be idle. As the parable that Jesus taught in Matthew 25, we are to take what God has given us, whether little or much, and multiply it to the best of our abilities. Let us not play it safe as the one servant did and hide the money in the ground; let us be about multiplying His kingdom. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%203%3A5%2D7&version=NLT (1 Corinthians 3:5-7) After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God's servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us. I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. It's not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What's important is that God makes the seed grow. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from John H. Patterson, and it is: An leader is a person who always decides; sometimes he decides correctly, but he always decides. Always Decide One significant difference between a person who leads effectively and a person who does not is their ability to make decisions on a timely basis. Every one of us is continually making decisions and choices, even if the decision is not to decide. Those who rise as authentic leaders can decide, even if their choices are not always correct. A genuine leader will also take responsibility for their decisions and then remedy any decisions that were not correct. The key is not being paralyzed with fear, but being able to move forward even if the path is not clear. God has not given us the spirit of fear, but if we abide in His Word continually, God will provide us with a sound mind so that the majority of the decisions that we do make will be wise decisions. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes%202%3A24&version=NLT (Ecclesiastes 2:24) So I decided there is nothing better than to enjoy food and drink and to find satisfaction in work. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Zig Ziglar, and it is: An excuse is first cousin to a lie. An Excuse We all make excuses, just like we all have a propensity to lie. But, unfortunately, in both cases, the one hurt most by an excuse or a lie is ourselves. We are quick to make excuses for our lack of achievement or to cover up where we fell short in some area of life. Not in all, but in many cases, an excuse is a lie that we tell ourselves. While there are legitimate reasons to provide excuses for where we have missed the boat, we need not offer an excuse but state the reason for not meeting some expectations for ourselves or others. A viable reason is some circumstance that was out of our control, and therefore we were prevented from meeting an obligation or expectation. We do need to be careful that we do not allow our excuses or reasons to cross over the line where we choose to lie or fabricate our story in part or whole. Every time we lie, we do so to protect ourselves or our image. The fact is, though, it only tarnishes us even more than if we would have told the truth to begin with. So, as much as possible, minimize excuses, and avoid lying. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+John+2%3A20-23&version=NLT (1 John 2:20-23) But you are not like that, for the Holy One has given you his Spirit, and all of you know the truth. So I am writing to you not because you don't know the truth but because you know the difference between truth and lies. And who is a liar? Anyone who says that Jesus is not the Christ. Anyone who denies the Father and the Son is an antichrist. Anyone who denies the Son doesn't have the Father, either. But anyone who acknowledges the Son has the Father also. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Roy Ash, and it is: An entrepreneur tends to bite off a little more than he can chew, hoping he'll quickly learn how to chew it. Learn Quickly I have been an entrepreneur since childhood, which has grown exponentially throughout my adult life. We have been successful in most endeavors but have also failed significantly at times. We have made a lot of profit, but we also lost nearly everything at one point. So I can completely relate to this quote today. So many times, I have bitten off more than I can comfortably chew with the hope and prayer that I can learn to chew before I choke. Sometimes, the best way to learn is in the middle of chaos, where you know that you must swim or you will undoubtedly sink and drown. This sets a successful entrepreneur apart from someone who dreams of being an entrepreneur. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes+11%3A1-6&version=NLT (Ecclesiastes 11:1-6) Send your grain across the seas, and in time, profits will flow back to you. But divide your investments among many places, for you do not know what risks might lie ahead. When clouds are heavy, the rains come down. Whether a tree falls north or south, it stays where it falls. Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest. Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother's womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things. Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon, for you don't know if profit will come from one activity or another—or maybe both. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Jim Rohn, and it is: An enterprising person is one who sees opportunity in all areas of life. An Enterprising Person There are opportunities in nearly every area of life, if you are willing to pursue them. As another saying goes, most people will miss opportunities because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. Indeed, to take advantage of the opportunities available, you must be willing to sacrifice what you desire most for what you desire today. All opportunities require choices. You must choose to invest your time, talent, and resources into a worthwhile potential opportunity. You will not be successful in every opportunity you pursue, but if you do not choose to pursue opportunities, then you will never know what might have been. Make sure that your vision, mission, and values are clearly defined. Then you will know when to invest in an opportunity, and when to bypass specific opportunities. God expects us to fulfill the talents and abilities that He has blessed us with. Pursue them with passion and zeal. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2012%3A24&version=NLT (Proverbs 12:24) Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave. Welcome to Day 1980 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Making A Life – Daily Wisdom Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1980 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Unknown, and it is: An educational system isn't worth a great deal if it teaches young people how to make a living but doesn't teach them how to make a life. Making A Life I understand that the educational systems throughout the world have an enormous task of preparing people for meaningful work that will benefit society and each individual life. However, with technology changing rapidly and commerce becoming ever more global, it is difficult at best to prepare for those changes. Nevertheless, we must prepare young and older people that learning is a lifetime endeavor to stay relevant in today's world. We must teach people how to think, learn, and gain wisdom. The skills needed today may be obsolete a decade from now. We must train everyone to take responsibility and be diligent in their advancement. We must instill in the populace that manual labor is just as crucial to society as the highly educated positions. We must teach everyone that common sense is just as critical as educational learning. We must instill within everyone that gaining wisdom about life is more important than preparing to make a living. God grants each of us the talents and abilities needed to fulfill our duties of building His kingdom on earth in preparation for his return when He finalizes that kingdom by establishing His global Eden where heaven and earth become one. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2+Peter+1%3A5-7&version=NLT (2 Peter 1:5-7) In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God's promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,  and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Zig Ziglar, and it is: An easy way to become poor is to pretend you are rich. Becoming Poor There are many ways to become poor. First, it could be that you did not have opportunities to earn a livable wage. Possibly there were opportunities, but you chose not to take advantage of them. You could have had a chronic illness that drained you of what resources you might otherwise have. Third, you may have been taken advantage of by unscrupulous people who stole your finances through some scheme. Finally, you may not have been wise with managing your money. More often than not, those who are perpetually poor it is because they pretend to be rich and spend money trying to look rich when you do not have the money. This causes an endless downward spiral where money flows out of your life much faster than it flows in. It would be best if you gained the wisdom in these situations to understand that managing money and other resources is based on how we spend it. God gives us many principles in His Word on wise financial management. If you are poor, start learning from the best financial book in all history, the Holy Bible. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2028%3A20&version=NLT (Proverbs 28:20) The trustworthy person will get a rich reward, but a person who wants quick riches will get into trouble.  As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Henry David Thoreau, and it is: An early-morning walk is a blessing for the whole day. Morning Blessings I realize that not everyone is a morning, person, but for me, it is the magical time of day. I don't take early morning walks outside, but I do get up early and run or walk on the treadmill. It is the time when I commune with God while I listen to Bible passages, podcasts, and audiobooks. It is the hour of blessings and feeding of my soul, mind, and body. It is a blessing for the whole day. Regardless of the hour, you rise each day, set aside time to allow your soul, mind, and body to receive the blessing of God that he has stored up for you. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+1%3A3-8&version=NLT (Ephesians 1:3-8) All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Brian Tracy, and it is: An average person with average talents and ambition and average education, can outstrip the most brilliant genius in our society, if that person has clearly focused goals. Being Average Is Fine   I like this quote from Brian Tracy because I can relate to the concept. Although I would like to think that I am above average in most areas of life, I realize that I am a pretty average Joe. I am short of stature, not overly athletic, and at best average in most academic subjects. However, one area in which I am above average is self-confidence and focus. What I lack in talent and education, I make up with hard work, perseverance, and tenacity. When I set a goal, I am focused on the steps needed to complete that goal. I will not give up and consistently pursue the end game. So if you find yourself just being an average person in many areas of life, that is fine. You do not have to be a brilliant genius. You must be willing to have clearly focused goals and not give up. Even if you make little incremental progress each day, you will achieve your goals if you do not give up.   https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2021%3A5&version=NLT (Proverbs 21:5) Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Brian Mertens, and it is: Always remember that in life, you make choices, and then those choices make you. Your Choices Make You We all must make choices every day. Even putting off making a choice is a choice to delay. Yet, every choice that we make has consequences. Those consequences determine who we are as a person. You are free to make choices, but once made, you are not free from the consequences of those choices. This truth is embedded in the law of planting and harvesting. What you plant are the choices that you make. What you harvest is the consequences of those previously made choices. You cannot escape the results any more than you can escape the law of gravity. There is a saying: “What goes up must come down.” Since we cannot avoid making many choices each day, we must be wise in our choices. The only way to gain wisdom is to fill your mind with God's precepts found in His Word. Then, your choices will result in positive and helpful outcomes as you gain more wisdom. Since your choices determine who you are. Choose wisely. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+6%3A15-18&version=NLT (Romans 6:15-18) Well then, since God's grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! Don't you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you. Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Robert H. Schuller, and it is: Always look at what you have left. Never look at what you have lost. Focus On What You Have In every area of our life, we need to be focused on what we have, not on what we used to have or could have had, if only… We should never dwell on what might have been or what we used to have. Our thoughts can easily paint a false picture of your past. We have all made mistakes and have made unwise choices. These choices may have caused us to lose relationships, resources, prestige, and other things we wished we still had. So, a word of advice from Gramps, stop it! Yes, we should learn from our past, but we should not allow it to control who we are or what we have today. God has provided us with unlimited blessings, and what may seem like a loss may be the source of many other blessings. Every setback in life can be a step up to what we are today or can become tomorrow. So, focus on today's blessings, whether little or much, then your tomorrow will be filled with more. A grateful heart and spirit are like a magnet drawing untold blessings. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+3%3A20-21&version=NLT (Ephesians 3:20-21) Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Andy Rooney, and it is: Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. Eat Your Words When we speak to or about others, make sure your words are kind, encouraging, soft, and sweet. You never know when what you say will come back to you where you will have to eat your words. When your words are soft and sweet, then if you do have to eat them, for whatever reason, they will be good for your soul. On the other hand, if what you say to others is caustic, harsh, and unkind, they will rot your soul if you have to eat them. As a Christ-follower, we must be careful how we speak and interact with others. The visible sign that we are disciples of Christ is our love for others. If we do not show love in all situations, then it will prove to the world that you are not a disciple of Christ. So show love and kindness and always keep your words soft and sweet. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians%204%3A31%2D32&version=NLT (Ephesians 4:31-32) Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Brian Tracy, and it is: Always give without remembering and always receive without forgetting. The Blessings of Forgetfulness I don't know if I am unusual in this trait, but I have been blessed with not remembering much in the way of details of the past. Yet, on the other hand, I hear Paula recite many facts from years past, even when she was a child. One of my brothers, Jack, who lives near us, is the same. He remembers so many details of our childhood growing up. Yet, I am hard pressed to remember much unless it is embedded in family stories or we have pictures of specific occasions. I don't feel bad about it through. I also don't remember negative things that people have done to us. I tend to reframe all situations positively and always look to the future and what beautiful surprises will be contained within the next few decades. Life is so wonderful, a gift from God. Our minds are so wonderfully creative. Opposite of that, I can remember dozens of passwords, business processes, and Scripture passages. I think this is because they are crucial to a successful future. There are many times when forgetfulness is a blessing. When we give generously to others, without any expectation of return, or being bogged down on how those resources were utilized. Once it is given away, it is no longer yours, so forget about it. On the opposite side of that coin, when someone gives to you, or is kind, make sure you remember to thank them for the blessings. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+3%3A12-14&version=NLT (Philippians 3:12-14) I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it,  but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. We are on Day 1972 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from William Faulkner, and it is: Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Don't bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself. Better Yourself I am competitive and enjoy being good at what I do. I enjoy competing with others, but I am enough of a realist to know that I am not always the best at many things in life. Maybe that is why I push hard to compete with myself more than with others. I am driven to be just a little bit better each day. I fully understand and realize that God has made us unique and different. We are to be His imager. It is not as crucial that we are better than others but that we are better today than we were yesterday. We are to utilize our God-given talents and abilities to the best possible. Each day we work to build God's kingdom will allow us to improve and be more impactful today than we were yesterday. Self-improvement will enable us to be competitive without being better than someone else. In God's eyes, we are never compared to another person. Instead, we are accountable for utilizing what He has provided us. While in the standards of this world, we will be compared to others and ranked accordingly, God's standards are different. Be the best with what God has given you, and then you will hear, “Well done!” https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Corinthians+9%3A24-27&version=NLT;NIV (1 Corinthians 9:24-27) Don't you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified. Welcome to Day 1971 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Acquiring Courage – Daily Wisdom Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1971 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Erica Jong, and it is: Always do the things you fear the most. Courage is an acquired taste, like caviar. Acquiring Courage I don't believe I have ever tasted caviar, so I am not sure if it is an acquired taste, but the thought of eating raw fish eggs is not very appealing to me. In addition to that, I understand caviar is very expensive, so that would stop me from buying it, even if I did enjoy it. I can vouch that courage is undoubtedly something we acquire when exposed to the things we fear most. Of course, there is a limitation to our ability to handle fear, but if you gradually do things that are not comfortable for you, and persevere through them, you will slowly gain courage. With each occurrence of overcoming fear, you will see your courage grow, and even multiply exponentially. So do what you desire, even if it is a bit fearful. The more frightening the task may be, the more you should attempt it, which will build your courage. Always do what you fear most, and then watch your courage build. Facing fears will open new doors that you never thought imaginable. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+John+4%3A16-19&version=NLT (1 John 4:16-19) We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.  Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. We love each other because he loved us first. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Mark Twain, and it is: Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest. Always Do Right As Christ-followers, we are compelled to do what is right, regardless of the situation. But, of course, this is much easier to say than to put into practice. When you habitually do what is right, most people will be please with your actions. But, on the other hand, you may even astonish some people who can't believe that you chose to do right, even at a tremendous personal sacrifice to yourself or your resources. It is never right to do wrong, even if you feel it will allow you to do right in the end. The end never justifies the means, but the means should justify the end. Do not allow your thoughts to be controlled by concepts not aligned with God's precepts in His Word. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%20106%3A3&version=NLT (Psalm 106:3) There is joy for those who deal justly with others and always do what is right. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from General George S. Patton, and it is: Always do everything you ask of those you command. Set An Example An effective leader is always willing to know the way of the subordinates, but more importantly, show the way. You cannot expect to lead others if you are unwilling to perform the same tasks expected of them. This does not mean that you have to be in the trenches, but you must be willing and able to do so, if needed. You should also have experience doing the tasks you require of others. You may not be able to perform as well as others in everything, but you are knowledgeable enough about the functions you can fill in if needed. Finally, the most influential leaders can empathize and sympathize with those they are responsible for. These traits can be learned but do come more naturally for some. Lead well by example. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Peter+5%3A1-6&version=NLT (1 Peter 5:1-6) And now, a word to you who are elders in the churches. I, too, am an elder and a witness to the sufferings of Christ. And I, too, will share in his glory when he is revealed to the whole world. As a fellow elder, I appeal to you:  Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. Don't lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example. And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never-ending glory and honor. In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Sophocles, and it is: Always desire to learn something useful. Learn Something Useful One of the mantras for Wisdom-Trek is to Learn Continuously. We should be in pursuit of lifelong learning. There has never been a time in the history of humankind when we have so much knowledge and information literally at our fingertips. Yet, we must also be wise in what we are learning. We should pursue wisdom above all else. Above riches, above frame, and even above the acquisition of knowledge. Yes, let us desire to learn, but let us ensure it is something valuable that can add to our wisdom. That is the best knowledge. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%201%3A7&version=NLT (Proverbs 1:7) Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%202%3A6&version=NLT (Proverbs 2:6) For the Lord grants wisdom! So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Jewish Teaching, and it is: Always Choose Life Choose Life There is much about whose life is precious or sacred in the public narrative. The fact is that God created all life, so all life is precious. If we have the option of promoting life or activities that minimize the value of life, then we must always choose life. This is true of all needless taking of life. This is true of the animal kingdom, where we should only take life when it is necessary for feeding or protecting humankind. Since humans are created to be imagers of God, there are few exceptions to always choosing life. This principle includes the life of the unborn, the aged, and the lives of every ethnic group in the world. Unless it is in self-defense and there is no other alternative, we should do all we can to preserve life. Life is precious because we are created as imagers of God. The basic principle is always to choose life because all lives matter. It is that simple. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy%2030%3A19&version=NLT (Deuteronomy 30:19) “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Jacob Braude, and it is: Behave like a duck — keep calm and unruffled on the surface but paddle like crazy underneath. Be Still One sign of maturity is to remain calm when you are in the midst of the storms of life. The wind may buffet you, and the rain may soak you, but like the duck in our quote today, maturity will allow it to roll off your back more quickly. Your mind may be racing and your stomach in jitters, but you can filter it enough where you handle what is within your control, and let God give you wisdom on managing the remainder within His time and through His provisions. Of course, God expects us to do what we can with the abilities He has given to us, but for everything else, we need to be in prayer that He will guide our steps. We need to pray, ‘be still my soul,' and be willing to trust God and have the faith to know that He is ultimately in control of everything. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+46&version=NLT (Psalm 46) God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! Interlude A river brings joy to the city of our God, the sacred home of the Most High. God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it. The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! God's voice thunders, and the earth melts! The Lord of Heaven's Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. Interlude Come, see the glorious works of the Lord: See how he brings destruction upon the world. He causes wars to end throughout the earth. He breaks the bow and snaps the spear; he burns the shields with fire. “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Abe Lincoln, and it is: Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any one thing. Resolution To Succeed To succeed, you must be resolved to do so. You can dream, scheme, and make plans, but unless you are resolute to put those plans into action, and then persevere to completion, success will always escape you. Someone with limited skills and resources who is resolute will succeed sooner and more often than someone who has both skills and resources but does not have the tenacity to continue when the trail gets difficult. Do not allow anyone to dissuade or discourage you from taking action and moving forward. As the old proverb says, you have to take the bull by the horns. Yes, the bull may be more vigorous, but with tenacity, you can succeed if you are resolute. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes%2011%3A6&version=NIV (Ecclesiastes 11:6) Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well. We are on Day 1964 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Judy Garland, and it is: Always be a first-rate version of yourself instead of a second-rate version of someone else. First-Rate Person God has created each of us individually as unique imagers of Him. Therefore, God does not desire for us to be someone else. Instead, he desires us to utilize our abilities and talents to further His kingdom and bring glory to Him. It is tempting to try to ‘keep up with the Joneses' or to imitate someone well-known or famous, but then we would only be a shadow of someone else instead of the full radiance of ourselves. No one can take your place, and you cannot take anyone else's place. Nor should you want to. As a unique imager of God, you have a special place within God's kingdom. Therefore, always strive to be all you can be for God's glory and let others do the same. God has already equipped you for whatever tasks He has called you to. He will see you through as He did with Joshua when he assumed leadership of the Hebrew nation. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Joshua+1%3A6-9&version=NLT;NIV (Joshua 1:6-9) “Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' Welcome to Day 1963 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Adjust Your Sails – Daily Wisdom Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1963 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Unknown, and it is: Although we cannot change the direction of the wind, we can adjust our sails. Adjust Your Sails It is very accurate that we cannot change the direction of the wind, no matter how ingenous we become as humankind. We have learned to use the wind to our advantage through windmills to pump water, generate electricity, and make vehicles of all types more aerodynamic. We have had to learn how to use the forces of nature created by God to allow us to flourish as the human race. Even in a tiny sailboat, you can use the wind to progress forward if you know how to adjust your sails properly. There are no excuses for giving up. It is up to you to learn how to take advantage of the headwinds of life. Even the smallest planes always take off into the wind to achieve the lift needed to become airborne. So the next time you have to face the wind or feel you have been dealt a bad hand in life, learn how to set your sail, or play your hand to your advantage. God provides us with many lessons about life, and it is up to us to learn the lessons He is teaching us. Once you understand the lessons, teach them to others. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Timothy%203%3A16&version=NLT (2 Timothy 3:16) All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Helen Keller, and it is: Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of the overcoming of it. Overcoming Suffering As a result of sin in this world, we see all creation affected by it. There is suffering in nature, suffering in the animal kingdom, and suffering among humans. If we were to focus on the suffering, the earth would be a most unpleasant place to abide. But, even though humankind chose to rebel against their creator by God's grace, we also know and understand that He provided grace to everything He created. All creation has much beauty, from the sun's rising to its setting. There is beauty in the moonlight and the countless stars and galaxies in the sky. There is beauty in flowers and plants, which provide us with sweet smells and nourishment. There is beauty in the animal kingdom and, indeed, in humankind. In today's world of advanced medicine and technologies, we have overcome much of the suffering experienced in the past. With technologies increasing ever more rapidly, what we see as suffering today may be resolved in the future. Even though illnesses and poverty are being lessened, the absolute cure for what we consider to be suffering is to be able to have peace amid suffering. That peace can only be found in Jesus Christ, who suffered and died for us so that we may have eternal life with God through Christ. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+8%3A18-25&version=NLT (Romans 8:18-25) Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. Against its will, all creation was subjected to God's curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God's children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us. We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something, we don't need to hope for it. But if we look forward to something we don't yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.) So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Helen Keller and it is: Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much. Stronger Together Some people like working together with other people. In contrast, others enjoy doing everything alone, especially for themselves. I have to admit that I am in the latter group. For most activities, I would rather struggle to accomplish something by myself than have someone to assist me. However, I understand that, in most situations, if I would ask for assistance, it would allow the task to be completed in less time and probably safer. As I grow older and hopefully more mature, I see the increasing value in allowing others to assist me. There is undoubtedly a multiplying effect when we work together to accomplish tasks. Not only can we achieve more, but the quality of what we achieve will be more outstanding also. Let us not be too proud to ask others to assist us. Let us not be too proud to assist others that need us to help them. We need to work together while not being concerned who gets the credit. Our occupation as Christ-followers is to be building the kingdom of God. We can accomplish much more when we work together for God's glory. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Corinthians+3%3A5-9&version=NLT (1 Corinthians 3:5-9) After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God's servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us. I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. It's not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What's important is that God makes the seed grow. The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work.  For we are both God's workers. And you are God's field. You are God's building. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Martin Luther King, Jr., and it is: Almost always, the creative, dedicated minority has made the world better. Dedicated Minority Like any culture and society at any time in history, most of the population would instead go with the flow rather than cause waves. So they wander around like sheep without a shepherd or follow along like lemmings. A more current analogy is that they are minions always doing what they think everyone else is. It is estimated that 10% of any group will rise to leadership positions, while the contented 90% would instead follow along. It takes the creative but dedicated minority to change the world and make a meaningful impact on the world around them. Significantly to change the world for good. So while it is ok to be part of the group and a team player when needed, look for ways to be creative and dedicated so that you can change your world for good. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2+Peter+1%3A10-11&version=NLT (2 Peter 1:10-11) So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Ray Lammie, and it is: Almost all the aggravation we face daily is caused by other people.  No one can aggravate us unless we internalize it.  They do need our cooperation to succeed. Aggravation Living, working, or playing with others is challenging without becoming aggravated at some point. Some people will aggravate us more, some less. Even in the best of marriages, we will be aggravated at times. We will even aggravate ourselves, but when that happens, we usually take it out on others. The secret to minimizing or avoiding aggravation is not to internalize it. Every time we become aggravated with others, or even ourselves, it is because we choose to internalize that aggravation. Once we allow it to be planted within us, it may grow like a wildfire whipped up by the winds. We must choose not to fan the flames of aggravation that we have internalized. Instead, we must let it go. Unless it will cause us the loss of life or limb for us or others, it is just not worth the aggravation. I know it is not easy, but it may be easier than carrying the heavy burden that aggravation weighs down on us. Instead, fill your minds with good, godly, and worthwhile things. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+4%3A4-9&version=NLT (Philippians 4:4-9) Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.  Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.  As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Earl Nightingale, and it is: All you have to do is know where you're going. After that, the answers will come to you of their own accord. Know Where You're Going If you plan on taking a trip, starting a new business venture, or any significant event, you must know where you are going before starting. Once you know your destination or endgame, you can lay the pieces in place that will allow you to reach your destination. As the saying goes, if you don't know where you are going, any road will take you there. That is certainly not ideal. How much better to determine your destination first because, after that, the answers will come to you, allowing you to plan the steps necessary to reach that destination. In our Christian walk, our end game is building God's kingdom while we live life at home, at work, at church, and in all activities, we engage in. Let's begin with the end in mind. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+4%3A25-27&version=NLT (Proverbs 4:25-27) Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you.  Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path.  Don't get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Bishop Fulton Sheen, and it is: All worry is atheism, because it is want of trust of God. Worry Is Atheism Let's acknowledge that we all worry about people or situations we face. We worry about those things which we have no control over. Some people enjoy worrying because it becomes their sense of purpose in life. We must understand, though, that when we worry it is because we lack faith that God has everything under His control. Therefore, if we lack faith, it is against what God desires for us, which is atheism. As Christ-followers, we don't think of ourselves as an atheist, but a lack of trust and faith and subsequently worry reveals that, at least in some areas of life, we are antithetical to God. While it may be impossible never to worry, since we are created beings, we should work toward minimizing any such worry in our lives. If God is the God of all creation, including we as His imagers, then worry should not preoccupy any space in our lives. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+6%3A25-34&version=NLT (Matthew 6:25-34) “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn't life more than food, and your body more than clothing?  Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don't work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.  And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? “So don't worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?' These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Henry Benjamin Whipple, and it is: All we want in Christ, we shall find in Christ. If we want little, we shall find little. If we want much, we shall find much; but if, in utter helplessness, we cast our all on Christ, He will be to us the whole treasury of God. The Whole Treasury of God Our finite mind cannot comprehend the riches and fullness that we have in Christ. Our level of completeness is based on how much we desire to be like Him. By faith, we can cast ourselves fully on Him. The level we are willing to do so is the level of completeness and contentment we will receive. We are made complete with all the fullness of life and power that come from God through Christ. If we are lacking in life, it is not because Christ is lacking. We must be willing to cast our all on Christ in utter helplessness. It is then we will experience the whole treasury of God. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+3%3A14-21&version=NLT (Ephesians 3:14-21) When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! People Of Good Conscience Even with all of the stress, strife, and uneasiness throughout the world in the past few years, much good is also being created. The people of America particularly are fiercely independent. Independence is part of the DNA on which the country was founded. But in our quote today, we see that even one of the founding fathers understood how quickly tyranny would destroy a fledgling nation. That is why he warned us that there are times when people need to speak up for injustices that are forced on the masses while the few who are rich and powerful attempt to control. The issue we face today is that both those on the extreme left and extreme right feel they are being oppressed while the remaining masses are left wondering what is happening and when the madness will end. We see that this is not just in the United States but all over the world. So while we need to stand up and speak up for actual injustices that occur, as Christ-followers, we must look at it from an eternal perspective. As the worldwide church, our primary vocation is to build the Kingdom of God so His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. So first, we must be praying for all who are in leadership and powerful positions that they will see their need to make decisions based on Biblical precepts found in His Word. Second, we need to unite as a global church and love each other as an example to the world. How can we expect strife to stop in our nations if the church cannot get along? Third, we must show our love to everyone in the world in word and deed, regardless of nationality, political persuasion, or moral bent. Let us, first love, and then we may have the opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with them. Showing God's love is the best way to stand up to tyranny worldwide. This attitude may require sacrifice on our part but think of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on our behalf. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+13%3A34-35&version=NLT (John 13:34-35) So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' We are on Day 1954 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from John Calvin, and it is: All true knowledge of God is born out of obedience. True Knowledge I believe an innate desire of most people is to know God, even if they don't acknowledge Him as the creator of all things. No matter who we are or our background, we desire to understand why we are here on earth and our purpose in life. Knowledge outside of our obedience to God will always leave us wanting. The primary way we know what obedience to God consists of is to study and learn His Word. We are so blessed in the world today, where we have dozens of different versions available in nearly every language on earth at a price that is affordable to nearly everyone. Electronic versions of the Bible are free, and many organizations worldwide distribute part or all of the Bible for free. True knowledge is born out of our obedience to God. Obedience to God is learned through reading and learning from His Word. There is no excuse for anyone who seeks to know. https://www.bible.com/bible/116/psa.119.11 (Psalms 119:11) I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from John Norley, and it is: All things are difficult before they are easy. Difficult Before Easy All of us would like to live on easy street, but many steps are required before you can do that. First, you have to map out where the street should go. Second, you must have the resources needed to procure the land where the street will be. Third, you must plow up the dirt to prepare a proper roadbed. Fourth, you must ensure that the roadbed is level and solid enough to be a road. Fifth, you must purchase the asphalt or cement needed to provide a lasting surface on the road. Six, you must put up the appropriate guardrails and signs to make the road as safe as possible. So the next time you desire to live on easy street, make sure you are willing to make the needed sacrifices to make it possible. Then, when you are ready, forge forward, and don't let any obstacles dissuade you. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2010%3A4&version=NLT (Proverbs 10:4) Lazy people are soon poor; hard workers get rich. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Harvey Mackay, and it is: All the technology in the world will never replace a positive attitude. A Positive Attitude I have loved technological changes since I was a young boy, and it still is strong today as I am quickly approaching my 66th of life. I read up on all the technological advancements daily and am excited about the breakthroughs in science, medicine, surgery, transportation, communications, and computing power. The changes will have a significant positive impact on societies around the world. That being said, technology will never replace the power of a positive attitude in its ability to make a positive impact across the globe. Technology can help us to do everything better, cheaper, and faster, but it takes a positive attitude to drive the technology to make it happen. We should use all the technology available to us to positively impact our world as we build the kingdom of God. The technology must be coupled with a positive attitude for it to be most effective. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Colossians+3%3A23-24&version=NLT (Colossians 3:23-24) Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Madame Guyon, and it is: All the graces of a Christian spring from the death of self. Death Of Self The core premise of our Christian faith is that Jesus Christ was willing to become our atoning sacrifice and die on the cross so that we would be acceptable to be in God's presence. As Christ-followers, we are to have the same attitude. Therefore, we must die to ourselves to take on the same attitude that Jesus had and show Jesus Christ to everyone we come in contact with. Furthermore, we must be willing to love others in such a manner that we are eager to figuratively take up the cross of Christ and sacrifice ourselves for the goodwill of others. In this manner, we will display the grace that has been poured out on us and become willing to pour the same grace on others. Others will see our love and mercy for them when we do this. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+9%3A23-27&version=NLT (Luke 9:23-27)  Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?  If anyone is ashamed of me and my message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in his glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels. I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Kingdom of God.” As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Indian Proverb, and it is: All the flowers of all the tomorrows are in the seeds of today. Seeds of Today No crops provide nourishment; none of the beautiful flowers we enjoy looking at and smelling suddenly appear out of thin air. Instead, they all start with a seed that when germinated will grow into a plant and provide beautiful flowers, green vegetables, delicious fruits, and savory nuts. Although contained within those end products also contain dozens of additional seeds to propagate themselves for years to come. Through this, the cycle of life continues for generations. As imagers of our creator, we also contain within us the seeds, when germinated, will propagate throughout all eternity. In each of these examples, we often fail to understand that the seed in its original form must die to bring new life, which leads to each new generation. Only humans will continue through all eternity through physical propagation and spiritual children as we assist others in coming into the kingdom of God. Let us be the seeds of tomorrow in all that we do. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%2012%3A23%2D25&version=NLT (John 12:23-25) Jesus replied, “Now the time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives. Those who love their life in this world will lose it. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Seth Godin, and it is: All the creativity in the world won't help if you're unwilling to have lousy, lame, even bad ideas. Bad Ideas Voltaire is credited with the saying: ‘Perfect is the Enemy of Good,' and this is so true. However, we also know that while we will never be perfect, we can always be making progress. Unless you are willing to fail at times, maybe lots of times, you will never achieve success. Not all of our ideas will be great. Most of them will be lousy, lame, and even bad, but don't let that stop you from coming up with more ideas. Let those ideas that are not so great foster more creativity to spur on great ideas. The ratio of bad ideas to great ideas will be very high, but you can succeed with only a tiny segment of ideas worth pursuing. So keep moving forward and let the creativity flow from you while there are opportunities. As the farmers say, “You got to make hay while the sun shines.” https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+9%3A4-5&version=NLT (John 9:4-5) We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from James R. Lowell, and it is: All the beautiful sentiments in the world weigh less than a single lovely action. Lovely Action We have all heard, “It's the thought that counts.” While it is good to have thought of some kind or nice action we should do for someone else, it will never take the place of actually doing something friendly, kind, or encouraging for someone else. Let us not fool ourselves into thinking that just praying for someone or thinking of someone is enough when we have the capacity and ability to assist someone. Yes, praying for others is commanded and encouraged in the Bible, and we should always be in prayer for our family, friends, and even enemies. We should be willing to do good as often as we have an opportunity, especially fellow Christ-followers. Taking action is always better than just our thoughts and prayers. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians%206%3A10&version=NLT (Galatians 6:10) Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.
