For it is written, "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God." Romans 14:11 When life gives you lemons, it's time to make lemonade! That's the old saying, and it's true. No matter how tough times may seem, they never last forever. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. So, what can you do to get through tough times? First, take a deep breath and relax. Remember that this too shall pass. Second, try to see the positive in every situation. Even if it's hard to find, something good can come out of bad situations. No matter how difficult things may seem right now, know that tough times never last. You can always turn your lemons into lemonade through prayer. A prayer is a powerful tool during tough times. It can help you find strength when you feel weak, comfort when you're feeling pain, and peace when you're anxious or scared. Prayer can also help you see the good in all situations, even when there is none. So, don't give up hope if you're going through a tough time. Remember that tough times never last. But, with prayer and a positive attitude, you will make it through to the other side. Zephaniah 3:19 says, "Behold, at that time, I will deal with all who afflict you. I will save the lame and gather the scattered; I will appoint praise and fame for the disgraced throughout the earth." Remember, you are surviving because of the mindset built through all the circumstances thrown at you in the past. Robert H. Schuller said, "Tough times never last, but tough people do." Right now, something around you does not make sense, but I assure you that someday it will make perfect sense. Therefore, do not give up, but laugh at the situation and let your enemy get confused. Smile through the tears and let your enemy be confused. God has said that your past failure will not be part of you anymore; every mess will become a message. Therefore, I prophesy in the name of Jesus that whatever troubled you in the past shall trouble you no more. In Jesus' name, Amen. Isaiah 45:23, God said: "By Myself, I have sworn; truth has gone out of My mouth, a word that will not be revoked: Every knee will bow before Me, every tongue will confess allegiance." Amen. Life flows in seasons… and there are no exceptions to this rule. Your health, your wealth, your career, your relationships…. everything flows through seasons. Through cycles of expansion and contraction, activity and rest, light and darkness. Humans suffer tremendously because we try to live in a state of constant growth, harvest and abundance, and this defies the laws of the universe. This simple teaching saved my marriage. I poured my heart out to one of my yoga teachers about how challenging and bleak my marriage was, and she simply posed the question, what if this is a winter? What if it's part of a cycle? What if beyond these challenges, spring is waiting, ready to explode into color and warmth and renewal? When the natural world moves into winter, we do not despair that it's the end of the world. We get cozy. We bundle up. We rest more. We reflect. And if we follow the teaching of the trees we draw inwards, we drop what is not essential trusting that what we release will fertilizer future growth and we divert attention and energy towards our core - we focus on what matters most, on what is essential. But when our relationship moves into a season of winter - when what once was bright and beautiful has fallen away and starts to decay, we mourn the loss deeply, and often leave the relationship. We don't believe in the spring that will follow, so we leave to look for a summer somewhere else. But that next relationship will also hit winter, and if we can't weather the season, we leave again and never get to experience the rebirth of spring and the joy and expansiveness of seeing life burst forth from darkness. Our career will similarly move between seasons. When winter hits, and things feel contracted and dark, can we take the invitation to draw inward and get clarity on what matters most? Can we drop what's not essential? Can we trust in the process, in the evolution? Can we lean into the mystery that exists in fertile darkness? Or do we freak out, panic and start to abandon ship in search of greener grass and sunnier skies? These winter seasons are a necessary time of rest and reflection. These are times for deep nourishment, and stillness. It is a season to deepen your trust… a season to rest for the explosion of creativity, blossoming and rising that will inevitably happen in the spring. Robert H Schuller says “never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come." So Sweet One, if you are in a winter, I am here to remind you that it will not go on forever. That you can soften your body, soften your belly, and unclench your jaw. Feel into the earth beneath you. And let your body and mind soften into a state of faith. The spring will always return. Spring will always return. Spring will always return. Place a hand on your heart, a hand on your belly. Draw inwards with some deep breaths and ask yourself, what can I do to support myself in this moment? How would i show up, how would i carry myself, how would i speak to myself if for this moment I allowed myself to trust that even in the darkest day I can know wholeheartedly that spring is stirring within me and all around me? And for just this moment, just this hour, just for today, can I allow myself to move into a state of faith, into a state of trust. Can I surrender to the rhythms of life, to the pulsing of the cosmos, to the eternal cycling of seasons?

Every setback in life can be a step up to what we are today or can become tomorrow. So, focus on today's blessings, whether little or much, then your tomorrow will be filled with more. These mid-week “Extra” episodes are a chance for us to go deep with a particular topic, and today we have on the program Dr. Gerardo Marti, and we're going to discuss his book “The Glass Church: Robert H. Schuller, the Crystal Cathedral, and the Strain of Megachurch Ministry.” This book caught my attention because it fills in an important chapter in the story of the evangelical movement. Many people, including me, have traced the rise of the evangelical megachurch to the Jesus movement of the 1970s, the rise of cable television, or the Willow Creek seeker model of the 1980s. And those influences were indeed powerful. But Gerardo Marti and his co-author Mark Mulder says that what Robert Schuller was doing as early as the late 1950s and early 60s, with drive-in churches and a sophisticated use of media and events, pre-date and provide a road map for many who followed, and that the rise and fall of Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral provides lessons we should learn today. Gerardo Marti, my guest today, is the L. Richardson King Professor of Sociology at Davidson College, in Davidson, North Carolina. He has written a number of books about religion and culture, and he served for many years as editor in chief of the peer-reviewed journal “Sociology of Religion: A Quarterly Review.” The producers for today's program are Rich Roszel and Steve Gandy. Schuller) Do triste desânimo à viva esperança Podemos passar nossos dias guiados pelo olhar do desânimo ou podemos viver com a mente instigada pela esperança. Quanto mais nos contagia a tristeza dos fatos que nos minam as forças, mais deve crescer em nosso coração a confiança no triunfo apesar das evidências em contrário. Nessas hora sem euforia, para que não nos afundemos no poço das incertezas, precisamos reafirmar nossa fé, seguros de que Aquele em quem que temos crido nos manterá íntegros até o final da nossa jornada (2Timóteo 1.12). Nessa hora sombria, para que não achemos que o presente seja o nosso futuro, devemos cantar que Aquele que é o Alfa e o Ômega, o Primeiro e o Último, o Princípio e o Fim detém o controle final da história, mesmo que pareça desinteressado de nossas causas e coisas (Apocalipse 22.12-13) Nessa hora de agonia, temos que sentir a presença de Deus, tão poderosa que não existe sequer um ponto cego no mundo ou na alma em que sua palavra não possa ser ouvida, tão acolhedora que não há abismo, real ou imaginado, em que seu amor não possa descer e nos alcançar, tão companheira que não há distância que sua proteção não possa percorrer para nos guiar e sustentar (Salmo 139.7-10). Nessas horas, com ousadia podemos olhar para o Salvador certo, o que morreu, ressuscitou, intercede por nós e vitorioso voltará, podemos convidar o Espírito Santo para que nos conduza até onde a água é pura e refrescante, podemos crer que o Criador esmigalha as razões para o desânimo e faz com que contribuam para o nosso bem os fatos que hoje nos perturbam (Romanos 8.28). “Pela fé, entendemos que o universo foi formado pela palavra de Deus, de maneira que o visível veio a existir das coisas que não são visíveis”. Schuller I was recently watching a documentary on Julia Child, and prior to meeting Paul, falling in love with French food and becoming the revolutionary figure she became in the food industry, there was a point in her life where she felt "ordinary", and not as special as she had assumed. It was shortly after the death of her mother to whom she was quite close and also during a time when a man she had been deeply interested in, married someone else. She returned to her parent's California home despondent and not sure of which way to go or with a clue of what to do with her life. Then World War II occurred and she chose to take part in any way she could. The rest is history in many ways, but this lull in her life provided a time of uncertainty about the future and a recognition that what lay ahead for her wasn't something she could predict or foresee. If you are someone who listens to their life, but also does all that you can to plan and put the odds in your favor, you, like me, have no doubt realized that there are still moments, some short in duration and some quite long, that seemingly give no clue how our lives will unfold. Such times are excruciatingly uncomfortable. Excruciating because we do not know if what we are doing is a lost investment or a wise investment. In such moments we begin to question whether we should have perhaps just "played it safe", not stretched so far, dreamed so vastly and swam so far from the shore. While I cannot sit here and write to each reader and confirm without a doubt that all of your dreams will come true, I can confirm that I am on such a ride right now and have been my entire life in many ways. But I have arrived on the other side of many of my worries in the past to see a beautiful reality that at some point along the way only seemed a dream, and in many cases, an impossible dream. Today I'd like to share with you eight things to either do or ways to shift your mind that will help you travel through these inevitable times that we will be introduced to along our journey should we be strong enough to walk away from the "safe" route. I put it in parenthesis because nothing is assured or 100% safe. In fact, when it comes to our mind, I have come to realize that we often have fear that our dreams won't manifest because we want them so badly. If we didn't, we wouldn't give them a second thought. In this instance, we are creating a sense of anxiety that we can actually let go of which leads me to my first point. 1.Make a plan and keep striving forward It's one thing to be worried your plan won't materialize if you haven't done the work. It is an entirely different scenario when you have done the work. Now this is not to say that there is a cookie-cutter approach and then voila! what you want will appear. But the key is to do what you can, keep steadily moving forward, each day, little by little tending to the necessary business and tasks and let go of the "when". 2. Seek meaning In Andrew Soloman's TedTalk regarding one's identity, he shares, "Forge meaning, build identity. Forge meaning, build identity. And then invite the world to share your joy." Another key to the success we seek, the goals we wish to attain is to strive toward something that is meaningful to you. Make sure you are seeking something that is of great value to you. If a particular political issue draws your ire as to how it is being handled, step forward in a manner you are comfortable with and work for the change you seek. As you begin to do so, you will be able to step into areas that you never thought you'd be comfortable going, but it will be your passion for the cause, if it is sincere, that will armor you from the most common doubts. Whatever you are working towards, so long as there is deeper purpose that is fundamental to how you live life or wish to live it, you will have infinite fuel to carry you along the journey. 3. Find the answers to the unknown questions While we may not be able to find all of the answers we seek, the primary reason we are fearful is because of the ambiguity. When we know, we can relax. And based on my mistake of not fully understanding the benefits of taking my business to the next level (LLC or an S-corp), I wasted years and much money because I didn't ask the questions from people who know the answers. When I finally did ask the questions from my now business lawyer, I could have kicked myself. My fears were assuaged because I had the answers, and the answers gave me back the power to make better decisions to determine my financial and personal future. 4. Reflect on your past As I look back over my past and consider the other uncertain times and what eventually unfolded, I am reminded that so many unknowns that I could not have predicted eventually revealed themselves. So long as I refused to stop striving forward, opportunities presented themselves. The key is to keep striving forward, putting forth your best and most sincere effort, being present and being excited about what you will find. Use your past as a confidence boost and apply the lessons you learned along the way. 5. Leave the familiar path Even if the crowd or others in your field have been successful doing something a particular way, it doesn't mean you have to travel in kind if that doesn't work or sit well or feel authentic to you. While it is always a good idea to look around to see what inspiration others can spark in you, as Oprah teaches, stay in your lane. Do it your way, do it well. I like to think of it as taking the time to learn the rules, but then breaking them as necessary as you move forward along your own journey. 6. A quick list to remember Don't fixate on the worst - instead envision what you are working to materialize. We create what we believe, and our energy is finite. Focus on what you desire, use your imagination to make it your reality, rather than envisioning what you do not what to have happen. What you look for, you are more likely to find. Don't become stuck in patterns that didn't work in the past - learn from what didn't work and do it differently moving forward. Perceived mistakes are not failures as they often reveal to us how we can do better next time with the next idea, or the next project. Don't see the unknown as a threat, rather see it as a mystery for you to solve. Become your own version of Hercules Poirot, Sherlock Holmes, or Nancy Drew, and be the detective who discovers how it can all work out. Don't throw your hands up and try anything, hoping something will stick. Be a savvy adventurer into the unknown. Know the past, understand how history has unfolded (the causes and the effects), and then take educated risks. 7. Become more comfortable with a little messiness If every day each wheel of your machine called life was working smoothly, every email was answered in fewer than 24 hours, the house was always spick and span clean, every bill was paid in advance without a tinge of worry, and debts were paid in full each month even while we were investing, I would be dancing with glee the rest of my life. Some readers may be saying, but that is possible. Having seen what was going on in my life when such a vision was a reality, I can say only from my experience that I saw it as an opportunity to grow, to stretch, to see what else I was capable of, and so I took risks. I invested in my dreams. Now, as I advance in life, I do hope to become more settled, but the reason I kept stretching was because I knew there was more I wanted to experience, more ways in which I wanted to grow and more I wanted to explore. Because of these pulls and interests, I needed to take risks. And when that decision was made or being considered, my mind and my office (and inbox) were sometimes a mess. Not a mess to clean up, but a mess to work through, a mess that needed to materialize in order to strive toward a dream that I could not have made sense of at the time. But with time, each of us can see the beauty of what the mess can give us. We just have to stop thinking everything must be perfect all of the time. We need to allow our lives to be messy temporarily, sort through it, toss and keep what we should and then see the beauty that we were meant to find. 8. Become more comfortable with not knowing Julie Benezet, who in 1999 was working as a director of global real estate for an online company called Amazon as they sought advice on how to best survive and grow their business, in her book The Journey of Not Knowing shares, "I noticed that when people take chances, they get farther ahead. Too often what happens is people go a more conservative route, because they don't want to deal with the uncomfortable feeling of trying something new when you don't know how it's going to turn out." The key to being willing to take these risks without knowing how they will work out is to become more comfortable with being uncomfortable. In this article she shares four approaches to further yourself in business when it comes to risk taking, and while you don't want to jump head-first without doing your homework, it is important to know that when you have already done the necessary work, you will still feel a bit of fear. Recognize this truth, become more comfortable with this truth, and it will set you free to soar. Whether it is the economy that we wish we could predict, the future of the government we live under, or whether or not our boss will say yes, or the weather will cooperate, the unknown is actually a norm in our lives. What lens we see this unknown through will determine how we navigate through the ambiguity, that while temporary, is inevitable. It's NOT about meticulously formatting content and making it perfectly native to each platform. Most people don't have the time for that. They just don't. Every platform has an "Edit" button - you can ALWAYS go in later and tweak the post to your heart's content. There's nothing wrong with editing your posts. I do this myself. Like adding shortlinks to my FB posts, removing some of those hashtags that came over from Instagram, because hashtags don't matter as much in Facebook. My cross-posting automation is about "productivity, not perfection". And I tell you how to set up IFTTT - If This Then That - to create this cross-posting. And ever since I started doing this cross-posting, I was able to create 20+ posts blog in April alone. And I'm not talking junk posts - I'm talking really useful content, VERY relevant to my target audience, and if someone went to my blog first, they'll no longer think wow, this guy last posted on his blog in August 2016, and before that in Jan 2016. So they won't think my blog is gotten outdated. There's useful content to consume. And it keeps my blog fresh in Google's perspective, creates lots of long-tail traffic because it has lots of keywords and real, non-spammy content, so it's all win-win. Schuller If you haven't listened to Episode 22 on How You Can Get Good Reviews and Use Them to Get More Patients, be sure to check that out here before continuing. Around 70-80% of people will trust a review they read online as much as they would the recommendation of a friend. They're extremely important! Much like product reviews play a huge role on sites like Amazon, patient reviews are becoming equally as important. Here are some commonly asked questions about reviews: 1. What sites do I need to get reviews on? Google - Google is where more people search than anybody else and the first place most people will find your site. It's highly recommended that you focus here first. Yelp – It's extremely hard to get reviews to stick on Yelp due to the strict nature of Yelp's reviewing rules, but it's still an important place to get reviews. One of the best ways to do that is if you can get one of the Yelp window stickers that says “People love us on Yelp!” – after this, you can better get in contact with folks who visited and can review on Yelp. Facebook – Becoming more of a review site than ever before, really easy for visitors to review on. RealSelf – A lot of doctors have seen this site, useful to get reviews on. Vitals – Not seen that often, but still important. RateMD – seen occasionally, but are definitely on the rise. Healthgrades – Seen all the time these days! The top 4 sites you should be getting reviews on are Google, Yelp, Facebook, and Healthgrades. To increase your number of reviews, you need to have a review funnel. If you don't have a review funnel. 2. How should I respond? Respond to as many reviews as you can! If you're not mentioning the patient or service specifically, you should be safe from HIPAA violations. Saying things like “Thank you so much for your feedback!” or another nice note are great. You can be more personal, but be sure that you are within HIPAA guidelines. 3. Should you respond to negative reviews? Absolutely! Apologize to the patient that they had a bad experience. Be sure that you drive home the point that you'd like to resolve the issue, you're owning the issue, you're not taking it personally, and you're taking care of the patient even after they've left the office. 4. How can I get more reviews? Definitely be sure to check out the free report we put together on this subject. Make sure you have somewhere centralized that patients are being sent to. You'll want to ensure that your front office staff is reminding them to leave reviews, that you're sending review reminders in SMS and email forms, and that you have a message at the front desk that reminds patients to leave reviews. Good Morning Onward Nation...I’m Stephen Woessner. And I have to say -- today’s solocast topic has me so fired up because over the last couple of weeks -- we have been delving deep into some critical topics likes excuses -- or alibis as Napoleon Hill describes them -- and the week earlier -- I shared with you how destructive the imposter syndrome can be -- and -- how easy it can be to allow that to happen. Yesterday, Jodi Flynn -- one of our Onward Nation guests -- and the host of the brilliant podcast, Women Taking the Lead, invited me to be a guest on her show to discuss leadership, mentorship, and some of the influential women who have been powerful mentors in my life. The conversation was off the charts -- Jodi had me teary eyed with her very first question -- no joke. The interview goes live in late March and we will be sure to share the link. During the conversation with Jodi we talked about the imposter syndrome -- about the constraints the syndrome can place us under -- about how the syndrome can grip us in what seems to be paralyzing fear -- and then procrastination sets in. Lack of performance sets in -- loss of relationships can set in -- all the while -- the whirlwind of compounding negativity can easily swallow us up -- if we let it. And Jodi had a different term for the imposter syndrome, which I thought was spot on -- so I wanted to share it with you. When she is working with her coaching clients -- or even keeping herself on the right track moving onward with gusto -- she refers to the syndrome as her inner critic. She said that and I thought -- oh -- now that’s a perfect description. She made me laugh when she said, “Oh yeah, and my inner critic is mean -- she has a foul mouth and disposition.” I laughed -- but then I thought, wow -- this is such a brilliant point because our inner critic can get away with saying things to us that we likely would never allow another human being to say to us -- but those comments are going on in our heads every minute of the day. Why? The imposter syndrome works because the person’s words that have the most influence over you -- and that don’t have to ask your permission to speak up -- are yours, Onward Nation. You are the one who is speaking over and over again -- whispering in your own ear -- throughout the day -- day after day -- month after month -- year after year. So for today’s solocast topic...thanks to the inspiring conversation with Jodi Flynn...I am going to show you how your words become your reality. Your words are what empowers your inner critic. Your words, Onward Nation, are what empowers -- or -- disempowers your entire life. Every aspect. It is not some mystic dark magic voodoo -- luck -- destiny -- the winds of fate -- the power that someone else possesses and wields it for your misfortune. Well, actually -- that last part isn’t entirely true. Because the power to control your destiny is in someone’s hands -- your hands -- or more accurately said -- in your mind. And I will show you how during today’s topic -- your words become your reality. Let’s dig in by starting with a quote from Henry Ford. He said, “Whether you think you can -- or you think you can’t -- you’re right.” Success -- or accomplishing that which you seek and desire, Onward Nation, is oftentimes the result of simply deciding and being committed to the result outcome you want to produce. And believing -- and understanding -- it is up to you to make it happen for you. It is not someone else’s responsibility. It is your own. So if you have an idea you want to pursue -- a new product -- a new business -- a new service -- a once in a lifetime vacation -- and you begin to craft a plan -- your inner critic may try to derail your planning process right away with thoughts of self doubt, fear, you’re being too ambitious, what would your family think when you share the news with them, and so on. Whether you think you can or you think you can’t -- you’re right. Isn’t it fascinating that before you have even collected any data from the market -- given your idea of any sort of litmus test -- you already encounter obstacles. In my opinion, more than half the battle of being successful is getting the right words to yourself down on paper so you can retrain your brain -- your subconscious mind on what the plan of action will be. Again, Onward Nation, whether you think you can or you think you can’t -- you will be right. So let’s take this deeper. I have studied and continued to study Napoleon Hill’s timeless work, "Think & Grow Rich." Hill includes a verse that speaks directly to how your words become your reality, so I wanted to share it with you, Onward Nation. Hill writes: Please download the episode to hear Hill's verse. The words you speak to yourself -- the building blocks of the thoughts you think to yourself -- eventually become your actions. And your actions direct your destiny. So if you can get the words you speak to yourself correctly aligned with where you want to go -- then you will realize your full potential. Hill dedicates a full chapter to the technique of autosuggestion -- which is the process of getting the words you speak to yourself correctly aligned with your purpose -- your mission in life -- your most vital priorities -- what you are striving to accomplish. Tony Robbins also addresses autosuggestion -- although differently -- he calls the process “Incantations.” What I love about Tony’s process of incantations is how he breaks down the word when he is teaching this powerful technique because he ties it back to the Henry Ford quote I shared with you earlier… "Where you think you can or you think you can’t -- you’re right." Just look at the word incantation. You can either emphasize the “can” in the word...In - CAN - tation when you pronounce it. Or you can emphasize the word can’t...In - CANT - tation. And even just that subtly could tell you where your thought process is currently. But neither Tony Robbins or Napoleon Hill were the ones who discovered the power of autosuggestion or incantations. I will argue it comes from the book of Matthew -- but will also give you a more modern or recent example. Let me introduce you to Dr. Emile Coue, who was a French psychologist and pharmacist. It is he who introduced autosuggestion as a form of psychotherapy and self-improvement. Dr. Coue lived from 1857 to 1926. Napoleon Hill first published his Laws of Success in 1925 and then later refined the manuscript into Think and Grow Rich in 1937. In addition to his discoveries around autosuggestion, Dr. Coue also discovered what became known as the placebo effect. He became known for reassuring his clients by praising each remedy's efficiency and leaving a small positive notice with each given medication. His book, “Self-Mastery Through Conscious Autosuggestion” was first published in England (1920) and then in the United States (1922). Many American thought leaders of the time adopted his ideas and methods, such as Norman Vincent Peale, Robert H. Schuller, and W. Clement Stone, and then became famous in their own right by spreading his words. Dr. Coue developed what he later called, “The Coue Method”. The application of his mantra-like conscious autosuggestion, “Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better.” It is sometimes quoted as saying, “Day by day, in every way, I'm getting better and better.” Or, “Day by day, in every way...I’m getting stronger and stronger,” which is similar to the Tony Robbins version. The Coué Method centered on a routine repetition of this particular expression according to a specified ritual—preferably as much as twenty to 100 times a day, and especially at the beginning and at the end of each day. And expressed out loud -- with full emotional power and belief. When asked whether or not he thought of himself as healer, Dr. Coué often stated that “I have never cured anyone in my life. All I do is show people how they can cure themselves.” Coué believed that curing some of our troubles requires a change in our unconscious thought, which can be achieved only by using our imagination -- and getting our thoughts correctly aligned with our goal. Coué noticed that in certain cases he could improve the efficacy of a given medicine by praising its effectiveness to his patients. He realized that those patients to whom he praised the medicine had a noticeable improvement when compared to patients to whom he said nothing. This began Coué’s exploration of autosuggestion. The good doctor certainly believed in the effects of medication. But also believed that our mental state is able to affect and even amplify the action of these medications. By consciously using autosuggestion, he observed that his patients could cure themselves more efficiently by replacing their "thought of illness" with a new "thought of cure". According to Coué, repeating words or images enough times causes the subconscious to absorb them. The cures were the result of using imagination or "positive autosuggestion" to the exclusion of one's own willpower. Coué thus developed a method which relied on the principle that any idea exclusively occupying the mind turns into reality, although only to the extent that the idea is within the realm of possibility. For instance, if a person firmly believes that his or her asthma is disappearing, then this may actually happen, as far as the body is actually able physically to overcome or control the illness. On the other hand, thinking negatively about the illness (for example, "I am not feeling well") will encourage both mind and body to accept this thought. Likewise, when someone cannot remember a name, they will probably not be able to recall it as long as they hold onto this idea (for example, "I can't remember") in their mind. Coué realised that it is better to focus on and imagine the desired, positive results (i.e. "I feel healthy and energetic" and "I can remember clearly"). So the experiment that lead to the discovery of the placebo effect went like this. Coue was making his rounds with patients and providing them with their medication. He also instructed each patient to say out loud to themselves with full enthusiasm, belief, and faith -- “Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better.” And to repeat the process 100 times a day -- with conviction. What Coue noticed was an increase in the efficacy of the medication as a result outcome of the words his patients were audibly saying to themselves each and every day. So then Coue tried something even more radical. He replaced the medication with a placebo -- while instructing his patients to continue with the autosuggestion as they had been doing. And the result outcome was staggering. His patients continued to recover despite the absence of medication. Onward Nation...your words affect your thoughts...your thoughts affect your actions...and your actions affect the trajectory of your life. How often do we see professional athletes walking into a stadium before a big game listening to their noise cancelling headphones? Why are they doing that? To block out the distractions and to listen to music to increase their concentration -- their mood -- tempo -- their thinking. Or, how often do we see Olympic athletes getting ready to ski jump, race downhill, snowboard, do a gymnastic routine, and we can see them visualizing the result outcome -- rehearsing over and over in the mind the moves they need to make -- the result outcome they want to see. That is the power of visualization, Onward Nation. And it is a visual version of the principle of autosuggestion developed by Dr. Coue. Elite athletes know they need to get their words right -- their visualization right -- in order to direct the actions they take during their performance or competitive event. Well, if autosuggestion and visualization can be used to increase the efficacy of medication -- or to guide the performance of Olympic athletes -- and used by Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Andrew Carnegie, JP Morgan, and many of the other industrial giants interviewed by Napoleon Hill to direct and influence the words they spoke to themselves...then why not you, Onward Nation? I mentioned earlier that autosuggestion can be connected back to the book of Matthew in The Bible. And perhaps in a future solocast -- we will dig deeper -- but for now -- let me just share with you...Matthew chapter 7 versus 7 reads, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” These are the power of your own words, Onward Nation. When mixed with faith and the belief that the result outcome will occur -- if we ask -- by conditioning our minds that the result outcome is indeed possible. But many of us don’t ask. Why? The fear of rejection. “What if I don’t receive what I have asked for?” Or, pride. “I don’t want to sound silly for asking.” Or, “I cannot ask because if I do ask, that means I am less because I was forced to ask -- or forced to submit.” Don’t fall into the mental trap that is as old as time itself, Onward Nation. Instead...realize that your inner critic attempts to derail you every day -- but -- as in all aspects of your life -- you have the power to change the outcome. Your inner critic will listen to you -- but -- you need the right script. You need to give conscious thought to the words that will create the right thoughts -- then the right actions. Your thoughts become your reality -- and the origin of your thoughts are the words you speak to yourself throughout each and every day...and what you ask for. Remember Dr. Coue’s autosuggestion… "Day by day...in every way...you are getting stronger and stronger,” Onward Nation!
