The ups and downs of the author journey is best managed by being in a community of authors who can help you find your way. Left to figure it out on your own can feel overwhelming, exhausting, and lonely. If you need help, the Biz Book Publishing Hub has more than 50 experts ready to assist entrepreneurs in becoming successful authors. Check out this free resource at www.BizBookPublishingHub.com. Building an author community is one of the reasons I'm so excited to be interviewing authors about the lessons they learned along the way. Listen to this panel discussion to learn a nugget or two that will help you more confidently move from writing to editing to publishing to marketing your business book. With me today are three authors: Anne Bartolucci wrote “Better Sleep for the Overachiever,” a guide to creating a lifelong habit of healthy, rejuvenating slumber patterns to help you perform at your peak. Bill Soroka is the author of six books, five of which reached #1 Best Seller in at least one category during the last Kindle Cross-Promotion Campaign, including his latest, “Your Passport to Apostilles: 116 Tips to Build a Thriving Business as an Apostille Agent.” Geoffrey Klein wrote “The Content Beast” a perfect guide for anyone who wants to learn about using story-driven content for effective content marketing. Please join me in welcoming Anne, Bill, and Geoffrey. In this episode, we discuss:
On the Schmooze Podcast: Leadership | Strategic Networking | Relationship Building
No matter where you are on your author journey, it can feel like there's always more to learn—because there is! Especially when you're new to this process. So many questions to ask and even more questions that you wouldn't even know to ask. Just getting a book out of your head and into a format that can be purchased takes a tremendous amount of effort. Let's make sure you don't just hit publish, but that you properly launch your book so it helps you achieve all of the goals you had for writing a business book in the first place. To help you figure out some of those goals and avoid some common mistakes, I've brought together an author panel. Stay tuned for a frank conversation about the highs and lows of being a business author. These authors participated in one of my Kindle Cross-Promotion campaigns, in which business authors lowered their Kindle book prices to 99 cents. I organize these twice a year around Amazon Prime Days and Black Friday. Dozens of authors working collaboratively to spread the word and boost book sales. It's been a great way to generate interest in evergreen books published many years earlier and celebrate recent publications. The best part is that our collaboration doesn't end when the campaign is over. Nearly every author opted to sign up for an author panel after the event. With me today are three authors: Carlo Mahfouz authored “Reality Check: In Pursuit of the Right Questions” to unlock the art of precision and presence in your leadership, innovation, and life. Bill Soroka is the author of six books, five of which reached #1 Best Seller in at least one category during the last Kindle Cross-Promotion Campaign, including his latest, “Your Passport to Apostilles: 116 Tips to Build a Thriving Business as an Apostille Agent.” Michelle Tillis Lederman is the author of “The Connector's Advantage: 7 Mindsets to Grow Your Influence and Impact,” a follow-up to her best-selling “The 11 Laws of Likability,” because she knows the strength of relationships leads to success. Please join me in welcoming Bill, Carlo, and Michelle. Your Passport to Connecting Globally.
Joanne Holbrook and her family have had eight postings and are about to go on their ninth. Born in South Africa, she is married to a US army officer and, together with their two children, they have lived in five countries. In her book, Your Passport to Parenting, Joanne shares some of the lessons she has learnt from raising their children in different cultures. In this podcast, Serina chats with Joanne about how she met her husband, how not to raise an 'asshole', how her family survived with limited 'stuff', and her illuminating tip for saving energy in the house. (Note: It's a unique one, which I think I might do at home.)
Today we have a special author interview. I worked with Joanne earlier this year on her book, Your Passport to Parenting: Wisdom From Around the World to Help Build Happy Families. I've invited authors I've worked with over the years to join me in a new series of shows where I will be interviewing them as we talk about what their book is about, how the book has helped them personally or professionally, what it has done for them and where they are now. The thing I love about doing these interviews the most is really getting to know my clients and of course, sharing them with the world because honestly, I love them all. I'm definitely my client's biggest fan. So let me introduce you to Joanne Holbrook.Check out our website, blog, and online book publishing program at www.LetsGetYourBookPublished.com
The internet has made things like working from home an option for lots of people out there. Many businesses allow employees to perform part or all of their work from their own homes, right? Have you ever wondered what it might be like to be able to go anywhere in the world, anywhere you like, like Puerto Vallarta for example, and do your job from there? [caption id="attachment_2835" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] Chase Buckner of Vallarta Co-Work[/caption] Listen to The Podcast Hello fellow travelers, welcome this episode of the Puerto Vallarta Travel show. I am your host Barry Kessler and I am just so happy to be introducing you to my favorite vacation destination, and maybe even yours, Puerto Vallarta Mexico. Of course, at La Palapa you can enjoy that same view of the Los Muertos Pier all day long for breakfast, lunch or dinner, seated with your toes in the sand right at the water’s edge. It’s so romantic, it’s so Puerto Vallarta my friends! This week we are going to learn about the Digital Nomads in Puerto Vallarta and I have a really neat guest, Chase Buckner, who runs a place called Vallarta Co-Work. But before we get to the interview, let’s see what’s happening in Puerto Vallarta this week, the 11th of April, 2018. Puerto Vallarta Marathon [caption id="attachment_2845" align="alignright" width="300"] Vallarta Marathon[/caption] On April 15 Puerto Vallarta will be celebrating the 100 year anniversary with a Centennial Marathon. This event is open to runners and to the general public. The award includes three prizes of $10,000; $6,000 and $5,000 for the first, second and third place finishers. Start and finish for the marathon will be at the port terminal at 6:30 in the morning. That, along with the half marathon race. Registration fee is $600 and you can register until April 13. Check out the show notes if you are interested in taking part in the Centennial Marathon in Puerto Vallarta. I have a map of the route as well for the full and half marathon so check those out in the show notes. And I Have a link to the event as well so go to it! If you need more information please visit http://maratonpuertovallarta.com Videos of The Los Muertos Pier Being Built My buddy Brad posted some old videos he took back in August of 2012 of the Los Muertos Pier being built. It’s pretty cool, he has two videos and I have them in the show notes of this episode, so if you want to see what it was like during the construction, check it out. And thanks Brad for letting me use the video. Brad and his wife Tami were on the show last May. They were a great interview so if you haven’t listened to that one, I have a link in the show notes as well or just go google Fun Things to Do in Puerto Vallarta with Brad and Tami, and voila, you will find it! Check out the video of Brad eating crickets on the streets of El Pittial. Amazing! They have some great stories including some medical emergency stories with happy endings and witch doctors and everything. Very entertaining. [caption id="attachment_2850" align="alignright" width="300"] Fun Things to Do in Puerto Vallarta with Brad and Tami[/caption] Make Black and White Copies of Your Passport and Driver’s License I want to talk with you about carrying around your passports and ID, like your drivers’ license when you are vacationing in paradise. This was prompted by a post I read a couple of days ago on the Facebags. The poster was stopped by a traffic cop in Puerto Vallarta and told he had committed a violation of some sort or another, like illegally parking or something. Anyway, the cop asked to see his driver’s license. He handed over the license, and the cop told him that he would be holding on to the license until he was paid a 500 peso fine. The guy didn’t know what to do, he got nervous and paid the cop. The cop returned the license and off he went. Here’s the thing. That cop was a bad cop. He was looking for a payoff. Easy money right? Now we have never talked about this, but it’s pretty important. You should never be walking around with your passport and ID. Before you leave for Vallarta, make black and white copies of your passport and driver’s license. I usually make a couple of copies in case I leave it in my pocket by mistake and wash it. When you get to your hotel, or Airbnb or condo or to that place under the overpass, wherever you are staying, lock up your passport and ID till you get ready to come home. [caption id="attachment_2854" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] Make Black and White Copies of Your Passport and License[/caption] Now, don’t make color copies, this is illegal, and the Mexican authorities consider that a form of counterfeiting, so make the copies in black and white only. When a cop or person of authority takes the ID from you, that is actually how they do it. You don’t get it back until you go in to pay the fine, but don’t pay the cop. Never pay the cop unless of course you feel your life is in danger. If that happens, take a photo of the cop. Ask to see his or her badge, and if all else fails, take a picture of the vehicle they are riding in. Take it to the tourist office in Lazaro Cardenas Park. It’s the building near the corner of Pino Suarez and Venustiano Carranza, in the park. They usually have an abogado on site. An attorney or two who are there for you gringos out there. I will have a picture of the location you go to if you are having issues. [caption id="attachment_2857" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Make Black and White Copies[/caption] So again, don’t carry your passports or licenses around. Black and white copies. Make a couple. And don’t hand over the real document to the cop. Now if that’s all you have and you are faced with that situation, tell the cop that you will meet him at the traffic counter and pay the fine there, and get back your license. Then see what happens. It’s possible you will get back the whole enchilada without spending a dime. I have the address of the Ayuntamiento de Puerto Vallarta, That’s City Hall. It’s close to the Marina, Just a little inland from there in the Agua Zarca Colonia. That’s where you will tell the officer you will be paying the ticket. Can you remember that? That ought to get his attention. Hey, I’ll meet you at the ayuntamiento amigo! Ha. I Have a map of City Hall two in the show notes so for sure get familiar with it if you like. Website for the Ayuntamiento de Puerto Vallarta City Hall [caption id="attachment_2831" align="aligncenter" width="852"] Tourist office in Lazaro Cardenas Park[/caption] Lázaro Cárdenas Park Office Phone: (322) 222 22 24 Pino Suárez & Venustiano Carranza S/N, Col. Emiliano Zapata - Olas Altas, Puerto Vallarta. Okay let’s get to our interview. Vallarta Co-Work in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico [caption id="attachment_2843" align="aligncenter" width="691"] Vallarta Cowork[/caption] The internet has made things like working from home an option for lots of people out there. Many businesses allow employees to perform part or all of their work from their own homes, right? Have you ever wondered what it might be like to be able to go anywhere in the world, [caption id="attachment_2842" align="alignright" width="364"] Vallarta Cowork[/caption] anywhere you like, like Puerto Vallarta for example, and do your job from there? I know I have! All that you would need would be good internet speed, a comfortable place to get your work done, a place with few distractions, and maybe even a place with people like you, who have ditched the regular 9-5 world, dodging the congested highways and byways that would take them to their place of employment, for the life of a Digital Nomad. That’s right, a Digital Nomad! Digital Nomads have found a way to get their jobs done from anywhere in the world, and one of those places is in Puerto Vallarta at a place called Vallarta Co-Work. [caption id="attachment_2837" align="alignleft" width="300"] Vallarta Cowork[/caption] I met Chase Buckner quite by accident. I was talking with a guy named Tex, I know, sounds funny, but Tex was working the door at Joe Jack’s Fish Shack on Bassilio Badillo, and I was asking if I could get an interview with the owner of the place. I explained what I do, and his face lit up and he asked, have you spoken with Chase Buckner? He would be a great interview. So, I walked over to Vallarta Co-Work, introduced myself and asked him if he would tell you guys what he does in paradise. His place is on the second floor, in the Santander Bank Building right next to L´Angolo di Napoli, you knew it as Bella Napoli, right next to the parking structure right on the Malecon. So let’s go right now to Puerto Vallarta Mexico, to the offices of Vallarta Co-Work, and meet the head Digital Nomad himself, Chase Buckner. Listen to The Podcast [caption id="attachment_2839" align="alignright" width="300"] Vallarta Cowork[/caption] Wasn’t that interesting? Now all you have to do is find a skill, an idea, a product to sell or something, and become a Digital Nomad yourself. Maybe right here, in paradise, Puerto Vallarta. Chase was so kind to me during my stay that he allowed me to do an interview with Sylvie Scopazzo at Vallarta Co-Work, and he was always ready to answer any questions. I checked out Chases’ podcast, Webbing the Surf, and it’s really good. He interviews the Digital Nomads that he meets at his place so check it out. That’s www.webbingthesurf.com. I have a link to his podcast in the show notes to this episode of the show. And take Chase up on his Free Day Pass if you think Vallarta Co-Work is a good fit for you during your stay in Paradise. Next week, stay tuned for more on the ground reports from Puerto Vallarta Mexico, with travel tips, great restaurant and excursion ideas and more. Until then, remember, this is an interactive show where I depend on your questions and suggestions about all things Puerto Vallarta. If you think of something I should be talking about, please reach out to me by clicking on the Contact us tab and sending us your message. [caption id="attachment_2840" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] Vallarta Cowork[/caption] And remember, if you are considering booking any type of tour while you are in Puerto Vallarta, you must go to Vallartainfo.com, JR’s website and reserve your tour through him, right from his website. Remember the value for value proposition. His experience and on the ground knowledge of everything Puerto Vallarta in exchange for your making a purchase of a tour that you would do anyway, you’re just doing it through him as a way of saying thank you. It costs no more than if you were to use someone else so do it. Really. And when you do take one of these tours, email me about your experiences. Maybe you can come on-board and share with others what you liked or didn’t like about the tour. Again, contact me by clicking on the Contact us tab and sending off a message. Don’t forget his maps, his DIY tours and his revitalized Happy Hour Board. I have links to all of those in the show notes. [caption id="attachment_2836" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] Chase Buckner, Vallarta Cowork[/caption] And once again, if you like this podcast, please take the time and subscribe and give me a good review on iTunes if you would. That way we can get the word out to more and more people about the magic of this place. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Remember I made it easy for you to do just that with each episode I create. But if you haven't been to my website, you really need to have a look there. I have the links to the places we talk about, interesting pictures and the more all right there in my blog-posts and show-notes for each episode of the show so check them out for sure if you haven't already all-right? All right. [caption id="attachment_2834" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] Vallarta Cowork[/caption] So, thanks to Chase Buckner of Vallarta Co-Work, I have pictures of the place, of Chase and I also have links to the places that Chase recommended, just like I do for every podcast guest so check those out. [caption id="attachment_2838" align="alignright" width="300"] Vallarta Cowork[/caption] Also, don’t miss those videos of the Los Muertos Pier being built right in the show notes as well. Thanks Brad for those. And hey, thanks to all of you for listening all the way through this episode of the Puerto Vallarta Travel Show. This is Barry Kessler signing off with a wish for you all to slow down, be kind and live the Vallarta lifestyle. Nos Vemos amigos!
