I talk about a quote my mentor always says that has stayed with me that I believe speaks to what integrity is all about. My mentor says, “You should always do the right thing, not someone's thing.” It can be hard some timed to not do someone's thing when it could mean a raise or a promotion, but if doing that things goes against who you are, against your values, is it the right thing.I also quote the bible. Specifically, 1 Peter 3:13-1713 And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.” 15 But [a]sanctify [b]the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 16 having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ash17 For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.”This scripture reminds me that having integrity is the right thing, and in the end, people can say what they want say about me, and it doesn't matter because I know in my heart and in the eyes of God, the work I do is good.Share your thoughts on integrity. In our first full episode, we take it back to the basics and discuss The Self.Specifically, we talk about my model for self-reflection. Spelled SCWEEP and pronounced sweep as in sweeping a broom, we explore the notions of self-concept, self-worth, self-efficacy, self-esteem and self-perceptions. How we view ourselves most often, unconsciously, and sometimes consciously, is projected to and onto others. It is important as people in general, but especially as leaders that we have a full understanding of how our feelings about ourselves impact our feelings toward others, and in turn dictates our behavior toward them. If we are not honest with ourselves about who we are, how can we be genuine and authentic in our leadership of others? Take the time to listen, reflect, and do a mental SCWEEP!I'd love your feedback on these episodes, so please connect with me on instagram or send me an email at info@waajidasmall.com.
