Cultivating Capacity for Rest - Invitation w/ Mike Clifford from Capacity Ministries Workshop Date: July 17 | 10:00 am We were all designed for incredible lives of peace, patience, kindness, joy, and love. We were designed to impact the world like Christ and a big part of that is REST. Many of us wish we rested better, so together we will explore some of the root narratives that drive our unrest, look at the good and bad habits we've formed, and explore practical ways we can start to experience better Christ-like rest in our everyday life.More info:https://www.capacityministries.com/capacity-workshopsRegister here: https://www.capacityministries.com/registration/workshops Get bonus content on PatreonSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/salty-dogs-christian-podcast. It might sound harsh to ask, but we're very curious. At least enough to have a conversation about it. When people get emotional in a spiritual environment, does it always mean that God is at work in them? Listen, we've cried too in church, so we're not knocking it. We're just asking questions and having the convo. Thanks for listening! The Beyond Limits class is a scriptural journey into embracing supernatural possibilities with Jason Villanueva, meeting on Wednesdays from October 7, 2020 to November 11, 2020. The class will now run for 6 weeks and will meet IN PERSON and also on ZOOM. We’ll have worship for 30 minutes before the teaching portion of the meeting begins. Each week, the teaching will take 40-45 minutes. For the Q&A portion, questions from Zoom and those in attendance will be addressed.WORSHIP BEGINS AT 6PM. TEACHING BEGINS AT 6:30PM. The goal is to have the Spirit lead us into discovery and shatter the limits we’ve placed on Yahweh. He wants to do so much in us and through us! But somewhere along the way, some of us has placed limits on what is possible. Let’s lay all of that down, and embrace possibility in the God of all things. The Season 4 finale is here. Very bittersweet, but we're excited to end the season with an amazing episode talking about this issues of right and wrong. Jason experiences a moment of humility as the Lord corrects his thinking around a very popular story in the scriptures. We hit on politics. What?! Yep. We dive right in tackling this issues of right and wrong. Turns out, we've been wrong. But so have so many others. The question isn't whether or not people will be wrong at some point, the question is "how will we treat people WHEN they're wrong?" Have you ever wondered why you might struggle hearing the voice of God? Most of the time it's because we don't slow down long enough to listen. Sometimes silencing the outside voices helps us hear more clearly. For others, they may not even think that God has anything to say, because He's said it all in scripture. Seriously, God's not mute on His throne only speaking when the pages of a book are open. He's bigger than that. Here we go again on hearing from the Lord as we seek after relationship with Him!More at http://saltydogspodcast.comPodcast Gear: http://podcastgearforbeginners.comSupport the show and gain access to the Pissed Puppies Podcast where we're angry, but harmless in our critique of some of the American Church's "growth" methods.http://patreon.com/saltydogspodcastThanks for your support!Email us: SaltyDogsPodcast@gmail.comJason: Jvgrafiks@gmail.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
There's a huge difference between what we're capable of and what the Spirit can do. Scripture is clear, a mind set on the flesh is death, but a mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. The law is powerless to defeat sin so Jesus had to do that for us. But then when it comes to "fighting sin" in our lives, it seems the task is put all on us. How does this make sense? Jason gets vulnerable in this one, talking about his past and how he was led astray by a perverted, distorted view of love. He shares about this work the Lord is doing in him right now.More at http://saltydogspodcast.comPodcast Gear: http://podcastgearforbeginners.comSupport the show: http://patreon.com/saltydogspodcastSome of our expenses coming up soon: $216/yr. for our website$240/yr. for podcast hosting$135/yr. for music licensingThanks for your support!Email us: SaltyDogsPodcast@gmail.comJason: Jvgrafiks@gmail.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
For the Lord is Spirit, we worship in Spirit and in truth. We live in the way of the Spirit. A mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. The Holy Spirit lives in us, and we are the temple of God. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. How do we really engage the Lord in the Spirit? What does that look like? What are the practical ways? Our answers may surprise you. Genesis 2:7the LORD God formed the man [5] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.Dust - bodyBreath of life - Spirit (Ruach) - Hebrew is Ruach Hakodesh ( Holy Spirit , spirit = breathe, or wind ) Living BEING (Soul, mind, will, emotions, consciousness) nephesh: a soul, living being, life, self, person, desire, passion, appetite, emotion. Colossians 3:1-3 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.Ephesians 2:4-7But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ JesusVisit our webpage at SaltyDogsPodcast.comSupport the show: Thank you for considering financially supporting our podcast. Casey and Jason talk about limiting God. It boils down to belief and faith. Many will say we can't limit God, which in the way of limiting his power potential, absolutely not. But we think you can limit the amount of that power you actually see manifest into your life, based on whether you believe or have faith to see it. We’ve been told all our lives that God is big and can do far more than we could ever fathom and think…but do we really believe that? What if our theology and denominations have actually put God in a box. What if our journey to find truth in scripture has actually put God in a box? Can God exist outside of the words he has spoken? Or is he limited by what is documented in the bible? Join us as we dive in to this topic. God, our Father has unconditional love for us. We love because he first loved us. The only condition for that love was that He chose to give it, despite our flaws, our sin, our misses and our mistakes. While we were sinners Christ died for us. We're to love our neighbors and love our enemies as ourselves. With all that being said, what does it look like to love without condition in the current climate of our society in America in June 2020, after all that has happened in the past weeks? Let me tell you, it's very very challenging. Season 4 is here! God has shown us the focus for this season: being "loving and life-giving". We really want to help point people to the Lord to find life, encouragement, and ultimately rest as mature sons of God. We're hitting hard on rest this episode, talking about practicing introspection and being self-aware to diagnose busyness and unrest in self. The Lord calls us to himself when we are weary and burdened. It's a beautiful invitation, but we have to be in a place where we can admit we are weary and burdened. We're happy to be back! Thanks for listening in.Scripture References:Matthew 11:29-30Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”Matthew 23:1-6Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples: “The scribes and Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So practice and observe everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy, burdensome loads and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them. All their deeds are done for men to see. They broaden their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels. They love the places of honor at banquets, the chief seats in the synagogues, the greetings in the marketplaces, and the title of ‘Rabbi’ by which they are addressed.Hebrews 4:9-11There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For whoever enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same pattern of disobedience.Zephaniah 3:17The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing."Hebrews 11:6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him._________________________________________________________________________________Join the Salty Dogs Book Club! Matt Thomas of Firm Foundations joins us to share his story from addition and violence to life and freedom in Christ! He wrote a book about his story called The Overlooked and is available on Amazon.com. His bio from FirmFoundationsMinistries.org: If a person could be described in one word, Matt’s word would be PASSION. Matt’s life path has been both winding and bumpy – born in Oregon, sent to boarding school in Washington, joined the Navy in California, attended college in Indiana, and went to prison in Arizona – but has been on fire for God’s kingdom since coming to Kansas in 2011. He has battled the demons of addiction and abuse, and knows the hurt and devastation this kind of sin can cause. Matt Works at Brothers In Blue Reentry in Lansing Correctional Facility and his true passion is evangelizing and spreading the good news about Jesus Christ – specifically to people that society tends to neglect. He stubbornly counts himself a Raiders fan, and is a huge fan of good barbecue. As the Executive Director of Firm Foundations, Matt provides the vision and direction for the organization, creates ministry partnerships, conducts interviews, preaches and leads Bible studies, and oversees the mentoring process. He is the passion and driving force of our program, as he has responded to God’s clear direction for his life.If you feel led to donate to Firm Foundations, click the donate button on the bottom of their website: https://firmfoundationsministries.org/index.html See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In this episode, we link up with Kyle Walker and Joe Klassen in Kansas City! It was a long awaited episode as we knew we'd have a ton of fun and hit on some hard subjects. Kyle Walker's "Walking With God: With Kyle Walker" podcast was birthed out of divorce and has gone on to help many many people who are going through divorce or have been divorced in the past. We hear his story and talk about the restorative and grace-filled nature of God. Enjoy! In this episode, Jason and Chris interview Author, Blogger and Podcaster Keith Giles about his book Jesus Unbound: Liberating The Word Of God From The Bible. We explore the idea that the Word of God and our ultimate authority is Jesus alone and that the scriptures are always meant to point us to Him. Prepare to have some of your beliefs challenged! We're not saying you have to agree with everything that is discussed, but you'll certainly have to keep an open mind and test all of this for yourself.*Side note. We've recently been interviewing people with varying beliefs that challenge our traditionally held beliefs. We at the SDP find it interesting, challenging and necessary to hear from different sides of the fence on varying issues. We won't always totally line up, and sometimes we may flat out disagree but our podcast is a a platform for these beliefs to be voiced and considered. After all, those in Christ are still our brothers and sisters. Thanks for listening!Find out more about Keith Giles at KeithGiles.com or subscribe to the Heretic Happy Hour Podcast. Chris, Jason and Derek talk about experiencing God. Is reading and knowing scripture enough, or is there actually more to this relationship with Christ? Can we have experiential knowledge versus simply informational knowledge? The bible uses two different words for "know", and by this simple word study, we say yes! We all have our own convictions that lead us to take a stand for what we believe. But what's our motivation behind "calling someone out", or engaging in conversations with varying viewpoints on what we consider "truth"? How do stay in peaceful relationship with those who believe differently than we do? How do we address others in sin? How do we remain in love as we do all of this? These are the things we discuss in this episode with Casey, Chris and Jason. You know how it goes... we end up looking at Jesus.Watch the LIVE replay: http://bit.ly/sdp-s3-e10-liveAndy Stanley & JD Greer Email Exchange:https://outreachmagazine.com/author/andystanley-jdgreearThank you for your continued support of the Salty Dogs Podcast! In our first non-bonus episode with a call-in guest, we spend time with Cody from Houston (via Skype) talking about his journey of faith and what some would believe to be controversial beliefs that Cody holds. Cody grew up in an abusive church situation which led him to pursue Jesus and truth on his own. Ultimately, he ends up being all about Jesus! We spend some time with Pastor Jerrod Rogers from The Movement Church here in Wichita, Kansas. Jerrod had a clear word from the Lord to "stop beating the sheep" and it changed the trajectory of his life and ministry. You know how we roll, the jokes aren't lacking in this one, nor is the real talk. It ALWAYS helps to process what you're feeling and thinking. Chris takes advantage of a hyped up caffeinated state to dive into some thoughts about recent mixed feedback and pushback on our recent episode "We're Salty, Bro." He's rolling solo in this one, in a vulnerable way. Thank you for your continued support of the Salty Dogs Podcast! Check out the links below to find out how to financially support our efforts.
