A band that most people tended to let slip under the radar for over 20 years. Yet, they are one of the best bands from the emo genre that tended to focus on the positive than the usual whiny lyrics from that era. Even more so that they reunited in 2019 after what was supposed to be a permanent breakup 5 years prior. The reactions to the reunion tour and the release this year of the EP Silvermine (Their first album of new material since 2014) have shown that Anberlin are FAR from done. Led by Stephen Christian, the Florida based rock band have wowed audiences with their lyrical content, energetic live shows, and phenomenal musicianship that makes one wonder WHY OH WHY are they still not known by the masses!!! This week, I will tackle their discography and rank their albums from worst to best. In addition, I will also give my two cents on the new EP. "Never give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about" -Winston Churchill. In this episode, the host talks about the major problem with today's generation of giving up so easily, but what can be done to maintain a spirit of positivity every time whenever you feel demotivated or feel like giving up. Let's Drive up into the episode and figure it out, Stephen Christian is an American singer and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the alternative rock band Anberlin, as well as the vocalist of his acoustic side-project Anchor & Braille. Forming in 2002, Anberlin released their sophomore record Never Take Friendship Personal in 2005, garnering praise for its ample hooks, sweeping melodies and accessible sheen. Eventually the band would go on to be signed by major label Universal Republic, experiencing significantly improved record sales, radio play and bigger touring opportunities, but it is Never Take Friendship Personal that represents Anberlin's time in the scene the best. Horsell Common were a 3-piece rock band from Melbourne, Victoria releasing their one and only full length record The Rescue in 2007, before calling it a day in 2010. The Rescue features high octane tracks like Good From Afar, delicate duets like Annie, If You're Listening and a guest feature by Anberlin's Stephen Christian on I'm Dead. The Rescue remains a criminally underrated release, by a criminally underrated band - owing in part to their untimely demise. After selling over 1 million albums and touring around the world with the highly acclaimed alternative rock band, Anberlin, in 2014 Stephen Christian played his last show. He decided it was time to focus on being a husband and father. The plan was working until all his income sources dried up during a 30-day period. It was then the Lord began to show Stephen how He can be trusted with absolutely EVERYTHING. Special Guest: Stephen Christian.

Christian McAlhaney is guitarist and backup vocalist for the Seattle-based alternative rock band called Acceptance. In 2007, Christian also joined Anberlin as the rhythm guitarist during the Cities album tour. In 2015, he formed his own rock band with Anberlin members, Deon Rexroat and Nate Young. I got a chance to meet with Christian at the Attic at Rock Brothers Brewing in Tampa, Florida right before he played a Acceptance-Loose Talk-Anchor & Braille-Anberlin acoustic show with his bandmate Stephen Christian. In this episode, we talked about what inspired Christian to start eating a plant based diet and the power of music.
Stephen Christian, the former lead vocalist and songwriter of Anberlin, one of the greatest alternative (Christian) rock bands, is as talented and brilliant as musicians get. His writing and vocal style is a combination that is unlike any other, one you'll never forget. Anberlin having sold more than a million albums in their 12-year existence, this Floridian band has toured the world with some of the biggest names and their music has peaked in the top ten on various Billboard charts. Stephen, a devout follower of Jesus Christ, used (and continues to use) his talents to spread the word of hope through writing and singing about real life events and the struggles and victories we face or will face. On today's episode, SBD Co-Host and Anberlin-fan Brian Klepacki sat down with Stephen Christian Arnold and had an awesome chat about passion, purpose, struggles, and hope. On this episode of INSIDE MUSIC, host James Shotwell calls Stephen Christian to discuss his upcoming debut solo album (out July 28). Stephen has previously wowed audiences around the globe with his work in Anberlin, but he wants to make it clear this new project is something else entirely. The recording of this podcast took place just hours after news broke regarding the passing of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington. James and Stephen could not help addressing the events of the day, with Stephen briefly reflecting on the time he spent touring alongside the deceased frontman just a few short years ago. This week I'm joined by Stephen Christian, mastermind behind the project Anchor & Braille and former frontman of Florida alternative rock band Anberlin. Anberlin was a mainstay of the punk and emo scene throughout the 2000s, releasing celebrated albums like Never Take Friendship Personal and Cities; they also had a bona fide hit single, "Feel Good Drag," which went gold and at one point held the record for most consecutive weeks spent on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. The band broke up in 2014, but Stephen is back with new music. His third album under the name Anchor & Braille, Songs For The Late Night Drive Home, is out this Friday, February 5, and is a phenomenal collection of moody, vibey pop in the spirit of acts like Washed Out and Active Child. I caught up with Stephen to chat about how writing this album was different than past projects, discuss how major labels tend to ruin the songwriting process, dive into some Anberlin songs and much more.
