Original text by David Pogue, Macworld June 1996. The database review mentioned in this article might be one of these two. Review of the hilariously terrible Brother HL-8 printer and two (yes, two) attempts at Macintosh drivers for the HL-8. Review of the smoking hot Envisio Notebook Display Adapter (1992). Audio version. “If you've worked for the company, can you write the review? No.” Pogue found himself in a similar conundrum. His review of Finale 1.0 included the disclaimer, “Since writing this review in September 1988, David Pogue has become a paid consultant for Coda Music Software.” One reader applauded Macworld for this disclosure but still argued it was a conflict of interest. Pogue stated, “My future reviews for Macworld will not include music software,” though that was not to last very long. See his 1994/1995 reviews of AutoScore, Practica Musica, MOTU's Performer, and Opcode Vision. I don't recall and was unable to dig up any rebuttal ads targeting David Pogue. If anyone out there is in the know and feels like naming names, drop me a line and I'll update this episode. David, are you reading this? :-)
Technician recruiting is broken, and Sheila Pogue has seen it from both sides. In this episode of The Wrench Turners Podcast, Sheila shares how she went from a parts counter rookie to leading teams across service, warranty, marketing, and now talent acquisition in RV, Marine, Power Sports, and Automotive. She's placed techs, she's hired techs, she's BEEN the tech's backup when things went sideways. Now, she's sounding the alarm: if your dealership can't recruit techs, it's not a shortage, it's a systems problem. In this episode:✅ Why most techs don't even have a resume✅ What top technicians actually want (and what they don't)✅ How LinkedIn is “word of mouth on wide open throttle” for hiring✅ What shops should be doing right now✅ Why RV, Marine might just be the next big hiring poolWhether you're a GM, Fixed Ops Director, or recruiter trying to fill your bays, or a tech thinking about your next move, this episode will change the way you think about hiring and getting hired.

Blair Pogue and Dwight Zscheile didn't grow up in church—but the church changed their lives. Now, they're passionate about helping others experience that same transformation. In this episode, they reflect on the crisis of discipleship facing many churches today and how a lack of connection to local neighborhoods is both a symptom and a cause. They share how cultivating a mixed ecology through Fresh Expressions has helped break through stuck systems, and how the simple practice of listening can lead to deeper discipleship and real community transformation.
In the first hour, Chase & Big Joe discuss Arena Football's Nashville Kats and the Nashville sports market with Greg Pogue. They also give their thoughts on the Preds Nicolas Hague Trade. Dolphins trade Ramsey to Steelers.
On land conflicts, MAGA , and the frontier. Journalist James Pogue talks to George and Alex about his book Chosen Country: A Rebellion in the West. The book concerns the events surrounding the 2016 armed occupation of the Oregon Malheur National Wildlife Refuge led by the rancher Ammon Bundy. We discuss: Why were these 2016 events so important and so telling? Is the Jacksonian concept of America still relevant? Does knowing how these people think enable you to predict what Trump – or JD Vance – will do? How is Mormonism the encapsulation of a certain America? Is the division on the Right about 'winners' versus 'losers' (or lost-causers)? Is this story also America First versus Globalists? How unique is the US's forms of political polarisation?

“It's okay to not be okay. It's just not okay to stay that way.” — Nina Sossamon-PogueWhat do you do when life knocks you flat? Former U.S. gymnast turned Emmy-winning journalist, tech exec, and resilience coach Nina Sossamon-Pogue has fallen—and learned how to get back up more times than she can count. In this episode of The Storytelling Lab, Rain sits down with Nina to explore how we build personal resilience, reframe failure, and use storytelling to take control of our lives when everything feels out of control. They dig into Nina's practical “T.H.I.S.” framework, which helps people process failure, navigate identity loss, and shift the narrative they're stuck in. This conversation blends the science of mindset with the art of storytelling to help high achievers—and anyone in a “now what?” moment—redefine success and take back authorship of their lives. If you've ever felt lost in the messy middle of your story, this one's for you.In this episode, you will learn to:Zoom out on your life story using Nina's “lifetime timeline” exercise to shift from tunnel vision to long-term perspective.Assess and strengthen your support system by identifying who's helping and who's hurting in your current chapter.Isolate the moment to reduce anxiety and take meaningful action in the present, rather than spinning in regret or fear.Reframe the stories you tell yourself to stop self-sabotaging with catastrophizing and overgeneralizing thoughts.Move through “Now What?” moments with intention by defining your next chapter based on who you want to become—not just what's happened to you. In Part 2 of her conversation, Nina Sossamon-Pogue moves from storytelling to strategy—offering real-world tools for navigating change, resilience, and reinvention. From building a reverse resume to mapping your own success timeline, she shares frameworks that help Gen Xers (and anyone feeling stuck) turn lived experience into a launchpad. Instead of chasing corporate validation or viral moments, Nina reminds us that real success is slow-built, self-defined, and deeply human. For those designing their next chapter, this episode offers not just hope—but a real blueprint for building forward.>>Your Reverse Resume: What You've Survived Matters“It's not just what you've achieved—it's what you've overcome.”Nina introduces the concept of the reverse resume, helping people recognize the hidden strengths built through life's hardest chapters.>>You Are Not Your LinkedIn Headline“We are so much more than our last job title.”She challenges the conventional resume model, urging listeners to view their lives as full stories—not highlight reels.>>Resilience = Adaptation, Not Just Persistence“Grit keeps you going. Resilience changes you.”Nina explains why true resilience requires positive adaptation, not just stubborn endurance.>>The Successful Timeline: Redefining What Really Counts“A career milestone isn't the same as a life well-lived.”She shares how mapping your life as a timeline of both triumphs and setbacks can reframe your sense of success.>>The Lego Mindset“We each have a unique set of building blocks. The masterpiece is yours to create.”Using a brilliant Lego analogy, Nina shows how your skills, experiences, and choices can assemble into something no one else can replicate.________________________Connect with us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Nina Sossamon-Pogue --Chief Change Officer--Change Ambitiously. Nina Sossamon-Pogue didn't build a personal brand around change—she built a life out of it. In this first of a two-part series, she shares how elite gymnastics hardwired her resilience, how journalism sharpened her communication instincts, and how a strategic leap into tech proved that reinvention is less about following trends—and more about knowing who you are at the core. For Gen Xers who've quietly navigated identity loss, layoffs, industry shifts, and market crashes, Nina's story is a masterclass in evolving without losing yourself.>>From Falling Down to Rising Up“Gymnastics taught me resilience before I even knew the word.”Nina explains how falling and failing hundreds of times a week built the muscle memory for lifelong adaptability.>>Losing an Identity, Finding a New One“I had to figure out who I was without gymnastics.”She shares the emotional collapse and slow rebuilding that came after losing her first major identity—and how it shaped every future chapter.>>From Laundromats to Live TV“One walk through a TV station—and I knew this was it.”Nina recounts the random campus job that led her from washing football uniforms to anchoring live television for 17 years.>>Laid Off at the Top“Voted favorite news anchor—and still shown the door.”She talks about navigating a devastating layoff that blindsided her mid-career—and the recalibration it forced.>>Jumping to Tech Before Tech Was Cool“I didn't know what SaaS was—but I knew where the world was going.”Nina shares how she mapped her next career move by combining self-awareness, external advice, and market trends—long before career pivots were branded movements.________________________Connect with us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Nina Sossamon-Pogue --Chief Change Officer--Change Ambitiously. Nina shares how her identity was challenged after not making the Olympic team and suffering a career-ending knee injury in college, which led her to rediscover herself through journalism. Her transition from sports to television was difficult, but it ultimately led her to a successful career in news, where she thrived on the adrenaline and competitive environment. Nina later took a bold leap from television to tech, joining a friend's startup despite having little knowledge of the industry. She describes the steep learning curve and how she embraced not knowing, asked questions, and worked her way up to becoming VP of Marketing and Communications. Her dedication paid off when the company went public, giving her the opportunity to change her family's future through financial success. Throughout the conversation, Nina emphasizes the importance of resilience and learning from failure. She explains how the challenges she faced, from missed opportunities to career changes, ultimately shaped her character and taught her valuable life lessons. Now a professional speaker and author, Nina inspires others to not only pick themselves up after failure but to level up and move forward stronger. As always, we would like to hear from you! What happens when your life takes an unexpected, tragic turn? How do you find the strength to move forward? In this episode of Leveraging Thought Leadership, Bill Sherman speaks with Nina Sossamon-Pogue, a former elite gymnast, Emmy-winning news anchor, and tech executive turned resilience expert. Nina shares her harrowing journey through public failures, personal tragedy, and how she turned pain into purpose. Nina's story is one of extraordinary highs and devastating lows. She opens up about missing her shot at the Olympics, a career-ending injury, and an unimaginable accident that left her questioning whether she could go on. Yet, through it all, she found resilience—a word she embraces as the ability to adapt positively, no matter what life throws your way. This episode isn't just about overcoming adversity. It's about building thought leadership from lived experience. Nina reveals how she transformed her hardships into a framework for resilience, tested through years of research and personal reflection. From being the person everyone turned to during crises to becoming a sought-after speaker on resilience, Nina's path is both inspiring and instructive. Listen as Nina discusses her evolution from telling others' stories as a journalist to sharing her own. She candidly explores the challenges of defining her thought leadership, navigating the pressures of public failure, and staying authentic in an industry often driven by spectacle. This conversation is a must-listen for anyone grappling with failure, burnout, or the relentless pursuit of excellence. Nina's insights on resilience offer a guiding light for thought leaders and high achievers alike. Three Key Takeaways: • Resilience is built through facing and learning from failure. Nina's journey shows that setbacks, whether public or personal, can become catalysts for growth when we confront them head-on and adapt positively. • Thought leadership often emerges from personal experience and rigorous reflection. Nina's hardships inspired her to develop a framework for resilience, demonstrating that impactful thought leadership is often rooted in lived experiences and deep introspection. • Authenticity and vulnerability are essential in thought leadership. By sharing her personal struggles, Nina highlights the importance of being genuine and open, which helps build trust and connection with audiences. Resilience isn't just about bouncing back—it's about adapting, growing, and finding strength in adversity. If you enjoyed the topics in this episode we recommend listening to Dr. Marie-Helene Pelletier on Resilience Redefined. Both episodes highlight the intersection of mental health, professional reinvention, and the ability to thrive after setbacks.

Part Two. If resilience were a sport, Nina Sossamon-Pogue would be an all-around champion. She started her gymnastics journey at four, made it all the way to the U.S. Gymnastics Team, and learned early that falling wasn't failure—it was part of the process. But life threw her some unexpected dismounts: missing the Olympic team, an injury that ended her career, and getting let go from a 17-year journalism job she loved. Most people might have stayed down. Not Nina. She launched herself into the tech world, proving reinvention is just another skill to master. Yesterday, in part one, we dived into Nina's journey—her highs, her wipeouts, and how she had kept pushing forward.
