"#011 - The Rookies: What it takes to complete an IRONMAN..."***On today's show I sit down with two of my mates Ned and Maxime, aka The Rookies. Along with a squad of 7 others, the two decided to take on the gruelling task of attempting to complete an Ironman. All while juggling full time work at the same time. This was the ethos of The Rookies, can an eclectic mix of a lawyer, panel beater, teacher and other quote unquote “average punters” complete one of the worlds hardest physical feats. I've done a small amount of training with these guys and I will say they are not your average punter in the slightest! Just so you know how ridiculous this event is, an IronMan includes a 3.9km swim, 180km bike ride and a 42.2km run. This is an awesome episode to provide a perspective on what the training was like for such an event, as well as the actual event itself. He is a decorated athlete who has competed at two Olympics, multiple world championships, over 90 world cup events and multiple medals along the way. Sarah Cook: The path to the Beijing & London Olympics, an unlikely sporting transition and life beyond sport..***Sarah holds multiple world cup and world championship medals in the sport of rowing, and is a 2 x Olympian, representing Australia in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games, in the womens pair and womens 8 boats respectively. Sarah successfully transitioned into sailing to try and qualify for the Rio Olympic Games. She is now the head rowing coach at Canberra Grammar School and the lead commentator for World Rowing global broadcast. In this conversation we talk about Sarah's time as part of the "Motley Crew", leading into the 2012 London Olympic Games, where Sarah and her crew fought for parity in women's rowing.
