She shares how her dedication and resilience led her to train numerous boxers, several of whom have competed in Olympic Trial Qualifying Tournaments. Cary's story is filled with highlights, including the buzz she generated by training and cornering a female boxer in three Olympic Qualifying tournaments. The conversation covers not only her career achievements but also her insights on purpose, balancing energies, and facing fears. We just wrapped up a jam-packed weekend with track and field taking place in Eugene with the NCAA Championships, Portland for the Portland Track Festival, Rome for the European Championships and New York City for the NYC Grand Prix. NYC GRAND PRIX Lots of action to recap including Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone giving the 400m American record a scare; Noah Lyles clocked a 19.77 into the wind, Eric Holt goes viral after taking 2022 world champion Jake Wightman to the line in the 1500m, Elaine Thompson Herah may be seriously injured after pulling up after the 100m. But the biggest story was 2022 World champion Fred Kerley and his sponsor Asics decided to part ways. Kerley came out onto the track wearing a competitor's product. Kerley did not end up racing after slipping in the blocks twice. He was not disqualified but elected not to race. NCAA Championships From McKenzie Long and Parker Valby to Shane Cohen and Parker Wolfe, we look at some of the collegiate stars who could be poised for a breakthrough to make the U.S. Olympic team in just a few weeks. Sunshine, exuberance, great athleticism. The Olympic Qualifying Series Shanghai kicked off in grand style on Thursday at the Huangpu Riverside, with enthusiastic spectators swarming into the venue to experience the festival-style event. Competitions for skateboarding street, skateboarding park and boulder climbing started with the preliminary rounds on the first day of the event, which ends on Sunday. The four-day series has attracted 464 top athletes to compete in BMX freestyle, breaking, skateboarding and sport climbing, vying for berths at this year's Olympic Games in Paris. I think the atmosphere and competition venue at the event exceeded my expectations. There were even more spectators than at the Asian Games," said 17-year-old Zhang Jie, the only Chinese street skateboarder in the event and the gold medalist in men's street skateboarding at the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year. Shanghai organizers transformed the Huangpu Riverside venue, which hosted the 2010 World Expo, into an urban park spanning 110,000 square meters for sports competitions and associated cultural and entertainment events. The event is amazing, just incredible to be able to see all the other events. And the venue is really nice. I'm looking forward to the lead event," said Alex Khazanov, a sport-climbing athlete from Israel. B-Boy Karam Singh from Great Britain said: "It's amazing to be around so many incredible athletes from different sports. There are a lot of similarities between the four and the journeys that we've been on, so it's nice to see the athletes from across sports and countries connecting with each other.英国的霹雳舞舞者卡拉姆·辛格(Karam Singh)说:“能与这么多来自不同运动项目的优秀运动员在一起,我感到非常高兴。四人之间有很多相似之处,我们的经历也有很多相似之处,很高兴看到来自不同运动项目和国家的运动员相互联系。”What makes the inaugural edition of the Olympic Qualifying Series special is the combination of an urban festival that integrates sports, music, art and culture with the hard-core sports competitions.首届奥运资格系列赛的特别之处在于将融体育、音乐、艺术和文化为一体的城市节庆与核心体育赛事相结合。"The event has a great vibe and it reminds me a little bit of the festival vibe. You see all the athletes skating between everyone, so I really enjoyed that," said Karina Bes from the Netherlands. Bes visited the urban festival with her daughter, who is a keen skateboarder.荷兰的卡琳娜·贝斯(Karina Bes)和女儿一起参加了城市滑板节,她的女儿非常喜欢滑板。卡琳娜·贝斯(Karina Bes)说:“这项赛事的氛围很好,让我想起了节日的氛围。你会看到所有运动员在每个人之间滑行,所以我真的很喜欢这种感觉。”Compared with other sports events, Bes added that the series offers more varied experiences. "I would have expected it to be way more crowded, but it's cool," she said. "There is enough space, enough things to eat and drink. Lots of fun things around."贝斯(Bes)补充说,与其他体育赛事相比,该系列赛事提供了更多不同的体验。她说:“我本以为会更拥挤,但这很酷。这里有足够的空间,足够的吃喝玩乐。周围有很多好玩的东西。”Five "experience zones" including a pop art-inspired climbing zone, origami-style skateboarding zone, hip-hop graffiti-themed breaking zone and an industrial woodland BMX zone, have opened inside the urban park.包括波普艺术风格的攀岩区、折纸风格的滑板区、嘻哈涂鸦主题的霹雳舞区和工业林地小轮车区在内的五个“体验区”已在城市公园中开设。"I think the atmosphere of the series is stronger than that of the Olympic Games because of the urban festival," said Zhong Tianshi, China's two-time Olympic track cycling champion. "In the Olympic Games, people just watch the competitions, but at this sports festival, people can participate in and experience these sports. I think it brings more anticipation to this competition."“我认为这个系列赛的气氛比奥运会更浓厚,因为有‘城市节',”两届奥运会场地自行车冠军、中国选手钟天使说,“在奥运会上,人们只是观看比赛,但在这个体育节上,人们可以参与和体验这些运动。我认为这给这场比赛带来了更多的期待。”Hosting the qualifier series in an Olympic year injects new impetus and advantages into Shanghai's efforts to accelerate its development as a globally renowned sports city and enhance the soft power of its urban culture.在奥运年举办系列资格赛,为上海加快建设全球知名体育城市、提升城市文化软实力注入了新的动力和优势。"I feel impressed by the energy of the city," said Pierre Fratter-Bardy, the International Olympic Committee's associate director of Olympic Games strategy and development. "The venue is extraordinary and has an exceptional setup. We are very thankful to the city of Shanghai regarding the quality."“这座城市的活力给我留下了深刻印象,”国际奥委会负责奥运会战略和发展的副主任皮埃尔·弗拉特-巴迪(Pierre Fratter-Bardy)说,“这个场馆非同一般,拥有卓越的设施。我们非常感谢上海的办赛质量。”Besides the competitions, the event also provides athletes with an opportunity to explore the city.除了比赛之外,本次赛事还为运动员提供了一个探索这座城市的机会。"This is my first time in Shanghai. Super impressed by the city. It is completely out of the world I'm used to — all the skyscrapers and the city is huge," said Sandra Hopfensitz, a boulderer and lead combined contestant from Germany.德国的攀石运动员、综合比赛领队桑德拉·霍普芬茨(Sandra Hopfensitz)说:“这是我第一次来上海。我对这座城市的印象非常深刻。我完全脱离了所熟悉的世界——所有的摩天大楼和城市都是巨大的。”Grace Marhoefer and Rudy Lilley, both park skateboarders from the US, were also impressed.美国的滑板碗池赛选手格蕾丝·马霍弗(Grace Marhoefer)和鲁迪·里利(Rudy Lilley)也对此印象深刻。"We've gotten to negotiate a lot of places and meet a lot of cool people. Sarah chatted with Christopher Blevins right after he got back from his whirlwind of a trip to Brazil where he won the first Olympic cross-country race of the season. The 26-year-old American former Short Track World Champion last won a World Cup XCO back in 2021 in Snowshoe, but he came out with all cylinders firing in Brazil with the goal of qualifying for the Paris Olympics and getting as many points for the United States to secure two spots for the men's team. From getting stung by the most poisonous caterpillar in the world, to recovering on downhills, dealing with cramps, life on Specialized Factory Racing, to what he thought of the cross-country race courses in Brazil, this was a really interesting conversation. We also got into why he switched to mountain biking from BMX, his creative pursuits outside of cycling, and being a mountain biker right now in the US.

It's impossible to overstate the impact of the first two months of 2024 within the history of women's surfing. Between the earth-shattering efforts of Caity Simmers, Molly Picklum and Bettylou Sakura Johnson on the North Shore, Sally Fitzgibbons furthering her ISA GOAT status, and multiple new Olympians qualifying in Puerto Rico, including 14-year-old Chinese surfer Siqi Yang, boundaries continue to be broken left and right. On this week's episode Shan and Rach go deep into it all. Much deeper, in fact, than they had any intention of doing. But if you're a fan of women's surfing, this is the conversation you've been waiting for. Also dropped into the episode are conversations with three new Olympians, including Siqi, as well as the now four-time ISA World Surfing Games gold medalist, Sally Fitzgibbons.Chapters00:00 - Intro06:53 - ISA World Surfing Games / Olympic Qualifiers13:28 - Camilla Kemp Interview20:44 - Janire Gonzalez-Extabarri Interview23:19 - Sally Fitzgibbons Interview41:08 - Siqi Yang Interview43:25 - Pipeline is For the GirlsInfoMusic: Dry Grass, courtesy of Body TypeContact: info@womensurf.netInstagram: @the.double.upWeb: www.womensurf.net
Rory Linkletter is a Canadian marathoner for PUMA. He just ran 2:08:01 at the Seville Marathon to get under the Olympic qualifying standard. He is in a good position to get selected by Athletics Canada for Paris. Canadian record holder Cam Levins has already been selected for the team and assuming no one else runs faster than Rory in the next two months, he'll be set to go to his first Olympics. Rory was a standout runner at BYU and then turned professional in 2019. He spent some time with HOKA NAZ Elite before choosing to leave the team in 2022 and has been working with Ryan Hall in Flagstaff, Arizona. In this episode, you'll hear all about why the training has worked so well. He shares a bit about Ryan's coaching and training philosophy. Plus, I try to start some trash talk between Rory and Conner Mantz or Clayton Young – his former teammates. This week Beards and Dun sit down with and get to know Ben Olson. We had a chance to visit with him about his running career so far, which includes his Olympic Qualifying race (2:16:04) and his Olympic Marathon Trials race effort the week prior to this episode. After a stellar career (both athletically and academically) at South Dakota State University, Ben is willing to see where his running may lead. If you don't know who Ben Olson is right now, you will in the future, as he has the potential to become a well known name in the running world.

"You can't expect things to fall into place. I was at a place where I was so close to being in or out that I had to rely so much on these uncontrollable factors where you're just rooting for everything to work out. I left that year being like, ‘OK, I can't do that again.' I can't just put myself in a decent place and expect everything to work out. If I want to make it, I have to step up. And luckily, since I made the change to Very Nice Track Club with Ronnie, my trajectory has been a lot better." Ben Flanagan is a fan favorite and has been on the show a few times. He is fresh off running 13:04 at the Terrier Classic at Boston University. That got him under the Olympic qualifying standard, which is huge because if we went back to his last appearance on the podcast in 2021 – he was stressing over his ranking and chasing a fast enough time to get himself in a good spot for the Tokyo Olympic selection. He didn't end up going. He finally got the chance to represent Canada last year at the World Championships in Budapest and now his path is a little bit easier. He'll explain that, how he found his speed again at The Very Nice Track Club and why he's so excited to chase some records. In this episode share where we have been and what's ahead. Eloise recaps the highs and lows of her Valencia marathon where she ran an Olympic Qualifying time of 2:25:47. We discuss a process you can use when reflecting on and reviewing races/performances in order to get the most from them.
Kiwi climber Sarah Tetzlaff made history as one of the first to ever qualify for an Olympic Games. Alongside Julian David, Tetzlaff won the Oceania qualifier in Melbourne for speed climbing. This week Tommy and I talk through some of the Olympic qualifying landscape, and some of the changes. We also talk about what the wrestling world was like when we started the podcast 9 years ago. Then we navigate through some of the preseason rankings and our collective thoughts. Rock on. The views and opinions expressed on this show are those of the individual hosts and not the network or sponsors of the Mat Talk Podcast Network. That being said, they curse a lot, too.
Listeners keep saying that the title is wrong, that everyone asked Des and Kara to start a podcast. That may or may not be true, but one thing that is definitely true: USATF and World Athletics didn't ask for this episode. They won't be listening even if they should. In it, Des and Kara talk about the state of the sport and how to draw in more fans. From small crowds and missing stars at the recent LA Grand Prix to confusing Olympic Qualifying standards and the highly inflated USATF CEO salary, they talk in depth about the challenges for the sport and then give ideas for growing it. As a bonus, you get their live reaction to learning of Faith Kipyegon's new 1500m world record and a classic Kara "rant" at the end that you won't want to miss. Someone put these two in charge!
On this week's show, Chris Chavez, Kyle Merber and Mac Fleet do quite a bit of problem-solving and explain recent rule changes by World Athletics including their decision to rename indoor track to ‘short track' and removing the time qualifiers for the distance races at the World Championships. We also look into the United States' path to getting a man to qualify for the Olympic marathon. Learn more here... In episode 30 of Conversations About Running Gavin & Callum talk to professional athlete for Nike and NN Running Team, Jake Smith. Jake is the 3rd fastest British Half Marathon runner of all time with a PB of 60:31 set when finishing 18th in the world championships in 2020. He has been running at an elite level for a number of years now, but shot to mainstream recognition when he won the Cheshire Elite Marathon in 2021 in 2:11:00, despite entering the race as a pacemaker with no intention of finishing. That day Jake earned the moniker 'Marathon Maverik' and today we discuss with Jake the pros and cons of his maverik approach to distance running. Amongst other topics, we discus the newly announced Olympic Qualifying standards, Jake's recent injury and his current comeback, his new coaching set up with Gavin and Jo Pavey and his time spent in Uganda training with world record holder Joshua Cheptegei. Thanks for listening and we hope you enjoy this episode of Conversations about Running with Jake Smith.
We finally welcome an Italian to the Total Waterpolo Podcast, and who better than Giulia Emmolo to join us on the show this week! In an energetic talk with James, Giulia talks about how she got into the sport, her experiences playing professionally for Imperia, Ekipe Orizzonte and Olympiacos, as well as her Olympic experiences in London 2012 and Rio 2016 - the latter in which she took home an Olympic Silver Medal. The Italian International then talks about the disappointment of not being picked for the Olympic Qualifying competition for the Tokyo Olympics, and the setback of Italy not qualifying for the Olympics at all. At the back end of the show, Emmolo talks about the future of the Setterosa and why Italy should be optimistic about the future. Taylor, Adam Snavely, and Joe team up to answer your listener questions and talk CCL! We start out with CCL and try to get to the bottom of what on earth happened last night between the Columbus Crew and Monterrey and the Portland Timbers and Club América. Then, it's on to the questions!1) What can we expect from Bayern Munich under Julian Nagelsmann? And is Jesse Marsch ready for Leipzig?2) Would Daryl Dike be on our respective personal World Cup Qualifying rosters?3) Who are some players that are beloved for a heroic moment during a huge game, but otherwise had average to below-average careers?4) Do you think the amount of talk about roster turnover from Olympic Qualifying to the actual Olympics had a negative effect on the players during Qualifying?5) Would staggering which players jump in a wall be a better option than having players on the ground during a free kick? 6) How are official goal counts tallied?7) Would Tottenham have obtained more points in a Super League season than Schalke have in the current Bundesliga season?Sponsors!
