Mikey Taylor, you may know him as a pro skater who is retired but I know Mikey in his new era as an entrepreneur mostly known for co-founding Saint Archer Brewery, COMMUNE Capital, and is a Thousand Oaks Council Member. I used to watch clips of him back in the day at Nocturnal Skateshop in Philly but now I'm watching clips of him spreading the good word of financial education in my home in NYC. Always stacking clips. Me and Mikey aren't that different when it comes to teaching something we're interested in such as being financially responsible, getting your money up, and all around growth. Honestly, sometimes I wonder if I'm boring when I try to spread the good word or maybe I'm just into people who didn't go to business school to talk about their experiences with money. Maybe it's the Capricorn in me. Mikey has gone viral on social media several times with him talking about real estate, debt, and market crashes but when are we going to see him start dancing on main. Father, loving husband, can still do a kickflip. This week we are joined by a man who needs no introduction, but here's one just in case. Mikey Taylor is a retired pro skateboarder turned Co-President of Commune Capital located in California. After spending 20 years gaining sponsorships and brand deals, Mikey turned that entrepreneurial savvy into a sustainable future by buying Saint Archer Brewing Company with a couple partners. After it's sale in 2015, he used that money to start Commune, which invests in self storage facilities (with a combination of reuse and new construction) as well as multifamily. Mikey has an eye for branding, a clear understanding of what new generations want in terms of housing, and truly unique approaches to getting investors on board all of which make him a black belt in the very competitive California real estate market. With a professional skateboarding career spanning over 20 years behind him, Mikey witnessed at an early age the pitfalls associated with having money and no financial discipline. This led to him learning about saving, responsible spending, and also co-founding Saint Archer Brewing Company in 2013. After a multi-million dollar buyout from Millercoors in 2015, Mikey used his new status as an entrepreneur to confound Commune Capital, a firm whose goal is to create financial freedom through real-estate investing. In today's episode, Jayson is joined by Mikey Taylor. Mikey Taylor is a former professional skateboarder who now spends his time investing in real estate across the United States at Commune Capital. He is also now the city council member of Thousand Oaks in California. His path into real estate started in the skate parks. When he was 16, his parents told him to get a job. He learned how to get sponsors to pay for his travel to skate competitions around the world and he was starting to earn an income. His mother introduced him to someone to help him build a financial plan. After his skating career was coming to a close, he and some friends constructed a successful craft brewery, Saint Archer, which they sold to MillerCoors in 2015. He then invested in some storage units and multifamily properties in what became Commune Capital. His success is built on his skills of courage, resilience, engagement, the ability to spot talent, and the magic of following up. --- HIGHLIGHTS: Going from skateboarding to owning a brewery with friends to real estate investing, to now being a city council member How he used skateboarding as leverage for all his businesses Dealing with different scales of haters Investing in Real Estate --- Mikey Taylors' Social Media Links Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mikeytaylor/ Commune Capital: https://communecapital.com/invest/ --- OWN YOUR POWER HARD-COPY AND SOFT-COPY IS OUT NOW!
