How To Stay Focused Without Wasting Time On The Wrong Goals

Too often we set goals for ourselves that we're not motivated to achieve, other times we set goals that feel right at the moment only to eventually see we were never really bought in. How can we stop wasting time on the wrong goals and focus on the goals that are in line with our dream life? The answer is reevaluation. We need to remember to take a step back sometimes and reorient ourselves. We need to see if our current goals and direction are leading us to the life we are striving to live. This can be a daunting task because we don't want to feel as though we've wasted any time or effort but it's essential to our success to see where we are and if we're heading in the right direction. Process Over Outcome

Why do some people never achieve their goals? They focus far too much on the outcome and not enough on the process. We put all this pressure on ourselves to reach an outcome that we can't control only to realize that the pressure is creating fear which often leads to failure. The quicker it's realized that focusing on the process and giving our best at this moment, the quicker we free ourselves from the burden of self-created pressure. As we free ourselves we can then focus on growth through the process! The most successful people in the world focus on the process, they give their best in the moment and they focus on getting better at their craft. The world has changed whether we like it or not. We live in a different world now because of the COVID-19 fiasco and all we can do is accept it and take advantage of it. The great Zig Ziglar once taught "Expect the best. Prepare for the worst. Capitalize on what comes".  These words have never been more relevant but how do we capitalize at this time? It starts first with a mindset shift and a different perspective mixed in with some opportunistic thinking.  The world, for the most part, has taken a standstill which means this is the time for you to finally do that thing you've always wanted to do but "didn't have the time" to do it. Now is the time to craft that business plan, write that book, take that self-development coarse, or learn to finally cook like a pro. Now is the time to capitalize on the hand that we were dealt. Often times we feel helpless, mad, demoralized because of unforeseen events and trials but does it have to be this way?  The German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche taught that human greatness lied in one central principle; Amor Fati. He stated:  “That one wants nothing to be different, not forward, not backwards, not in all eternity. Not merely bear what is necessary, still less conceal it….but love it.” It is not enough for us to tolerate trials, it's not enough to bear them so we must accept them, embrace and love them! When we look at troublesome circumstances and realize they are an opportunity to learn and become better we not only fundamentally change the way we look at things but we change who we are. It's Better To Fail Chasing What You Want

"You can fail at what you don't want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love." - Jim Carrey You probably had a dream growing up of what you wanted to be. An astronaut, an actor, a pilot, a musician, a professional artist, a world-renowned scientist, or maybe a wildlife photographer. You had dreams and then one day you "woke up" either because your parents/family told you to or that small nagging voice in your head shook you awake. You might have been told somewhere down the line that those dreams were just dreams, you might have been told to be realistic, go to school, get a good job and play defense. Somewhere your dream became really just a dream, it never became a goal, it never seemed real because you were told it wasn't. Imagine that you get hit by a bus tomorrow and it's over... Are you going to look down and think "Shoot! I'm really happy I played it safe and became the Best Buy manager!" Probably not.  Here's the deal you can fail at anything! You can fail to play it safe, you can fail to do what others told you to probably do or you can take a chance at doing what you love.  In today's episode, Jamie breaks down this quote by Actor Jim Carrey and why YOU need to pursue what you care about.
