In today's episode, Dani sits down with Morgan Smith, founder of Kalm with Kava, to unpack the truth about one of the most misunderstood drinks in the world—kava.Used for centuries across the South Pacific, especially in places like Fiji, kava is more than just a beverage—it's a ritual, a social experience, and for many, a natural way to relax without losing mental clarity. But as kava has made its way into Western culture, it's also picked up controversy, misconceptions, and even a few conspiracies along the way.Morgan shares his personal journey discovering kava, what led him to build one of the most recognized kava companies, and what people get completely wrong about it.https://kalmwithkava.comhttps://www.instagram.com/kalm_with_kava/https://www.youtube.com/user/KalmwithKavawww.stayskeptical.comWise Wolf Gold: https://www.wolfpack.gold/?ref=jvujkwgsSources: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jcwvgWpPz8GqLxNwpeJM7AHqBJL2O3JWVdE8ggKK7_8/edit?usp=sharing

Kalm with Kava | Exploring Natural Ways to Calm Anxiety & Manage Stresswith Morgan SmithIn today's fast-paced world, many people are searching for natural, plant-based ways to calm anxiety and manage daily stress. In this episode of Linda's Corner: Inspiration for a Better Life, I sit down with Morgan Smith, a kava enthusiast, wellness entrepreneur, and CEO of Monsoon Beverages, as well as the operator of Pu‘īwa Hawaiian Farms.Morgan introduces us to kava, a traditional Pacific Island beverage with a long and respected history. For centuries, kava has been grown and consumed throughout islands such as Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa. Across these cultures, kava has symbolized respect and connection and has been used in social gatherings, spiritual ceremonies, and traditional healing practices. We explore how kava is now gaining attention in Western wellness circles for its calming and anxiolytic properties. Morgan explains that kava's effects come from its active compounds, kavalactones, which are concentrated in the root of the plant. These compounds interact with the brain's limbic system—particularly the amygdala, which plays a key role in emotional regulation. For many people, this interaction creates a sense of both mental and physical relaxation.Morgan describes kava as the opposite of coffee—an “anti-coffee,” if you will. While coffee is often used to energize and stimulate, kava is typically enjoyed in the evening to help the body unwind and the mind slow down. It doesn't produce intoxication like alcohol; instead, Morgan compares it to a strong chamomile tea with noticeable calming effects.Since I haven't personally tried kava, Morgan also walks us through what someone can expect when trying it for the first time. He shares that kava has a naturally bitter taste (definitely not sweet!) and may cause a mild tingling or numbing sensation in the mouth. Traditionally, kava is served in several small portions—often called “shells,” named after the coconut shells originally used to drink it.While kava may not be for everyone, this conversation opens the door to understanding natural herbal options that support relaxation, stress relief, and emotional well-being. It's a thoughtful exploration of ancient wisdom meeting modern wellness. To learn more about kava and Morgan's work, visit Kalm with Kava at https://kalmwithkava.com/✨ If you're curious about natural ways to calm anxiety, reduce stress, and support your nervous system, this episode is a must-listen.Listen, Share, and SupportIf this episode resonated with you, please share it with someone who may need hope today.Be sure to subscribe, leave a rating and review, and help us spread more healing and inspiration to the world.Free Resource for HealingIf you're ready to release stress, calm your mind, and begin healing from within, visit:

In the latest Nomad Futurist episode, co‑hosts Nabeel Mahmood and Philip Koblence welcome Joe Kava, former VP of Data Centers at Google, about the hidden engines powering our digital world. Joe takes listeners from his early dreams of becoming a fighter pilot to leading one of the most advanced digital infrastructure platforms on the planet, sharing insights on technology, leadership, and the real-world impact of data centers. He calls data centers the “unseen backbone of daily life,” comparing our use of the internet to flipping a light switch without thinking about the power grid behind it. From video calls and online shopping to texting about golf, Joe points out:“Almost everything we do in our daily lives today happens through and because of data center infrastructure… People really misunderstand how much data centers are part of our lives.”Joe explains how controlling the entire technology stack — servers, cooling, networks, storage, and software — unlocked unprecedented efficiency at Google. Equally important was a culture that embraces mistakes, uses them to teach thousands of engineers, and drives innovation rather than hiding failure:“When you optimize every step of the vertical stack as one integrated system, the efficiency and cost savings are incredible.”He also encourages young people to see digital infrastructure as a long-term, 40-year career with stability, challenge, and the chance to shape an AI-driven future. Thoughtfully built data centers, he adds, can revitalize local communities, fund schools, and open doors for students who might otherwise never encounter technology:“You can build a career, support your family, and be part of something that actually changes the world.”Joe's story reminds us that data centers are more than machines; they're engines of opportunity, innovation, and community transformation. From powering our everyday lives to shaping long-term careers and uplifting local neighborhoods, the work behind the walls of these facilities touches millions in ways we rarely see.To learn more about Joe Kava and the power of data centers, connect with him on LinkedIn.

ABOUT THE EPISODE:If you've ever felt uncertain about what your teen or young adult might be using—and how easily accessible today's substances have become—this episode is a must-listen. I sat down with Sebastian Martin, Executive Director at New Life House, a long-standing sober living program for young men, to unpack the alarming rise of so-called “gas station garbage”—substances like Kratom, kava, 7-0H, and “Feel Free” tonics that are marketed as harmless but can create dependency and serious mental health fallout. With his deep professional experience and 15 years in recovery himself, Sebastian offers an inside look at what's showing up in schools, treatment centers, and homes—and what parents need to know right now. You'll hear a candid, compassionate conversation where we explore how experimentation today can escalate much faster than it did even a decade ago, why isolation in a bedroom can be as concerning as chaotic, risky behavior, and how crucial community and connection are in early recovery—for both parents and their kids. We also discuss the life-changing potential of treatments like TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) and what true collaboration between mental health and substance use professionals looks like when it's done right. What You'll Learn:What “gas station garbage” really is and why it's showing up in homes, schools, and even jails (but not on standard drug screens)Why today's cannabis and other “legal” substances are nothing like what you may have experimented with as a teenHow to recognize when isolation can be just as dangerous as acting outThe essential role of healthy community for teens and young adults—and how parents can encourage itA powerful mindset shift for parents: how to love your child to life, not to death. This conversation offers clarity and calm in a world of misinformation, helping you understand what's happening beneath your child's behavior—and reminding you that not all hope is lost.EPISODE RESOURCES:New Life House websiteHopestream podcast episode 241 with Dr. Martha Koo (TMS)DEA Fact Sheet on KratomInformation on the “Feel Free” tonic by Eleanor HealthThis podcast is part of a nonprofit called Hopestream CommunityGet our free, 4-video course, Hope Starts Here, and access to our Limited Membership hereLearn about The Stream, our private online community for momsFind us on Instagram hereWatch the podcast on YouTube hereDownload a free e-book, Worried Sick: A Compassionate Guide For Parents When Your Teen or Young Adult Child Misuses Drugs and AlcoholHopestream Community is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and an Amazon Associate. #663: We're living through the first era in which an investor can ask a machine to read a decade of SEC filings in seconds. That sounds powerful, but also a little terrifying. Can we trust it? And how do we use it without falling for hallucinations or built-in optimism? In this episode, we dig into the practical, real-world ways AI can strengthen our investing process while avoiding its biggest pitfalls. If you've ever wondered how to blend old-school fundamentals with new-school tools, this conversation will open up an entirely new mental model. Our guest is Brian Feroldi, an investor who has spent more than twenty years doing classic, deep-dive fundamental research. He reads SEC filings for fun, and he's embraced AI not as a stock picker, but as a force multiplier that can turn days of research into minutes. We talk about the specific guardrails that make AI useful for fundamental investors, including restricting sources to trusted filings, designing step-by-step instructions, and assigning the AI a role so it knows how to “think.” We also explore how to stress-test optimism bias, how to analyze companies like a forensic accountant or a short seller, and how to build prompts that match your own investing personality. Whether you're an index-fund loyalist with a little “fun money” or a hands-on analyst, this conversation will expand the way you evaluate businesses and make decisions. Key Takeaways How a single prompt can transform AI from a loose generalist into a sharp, reliable research assistant.
The surprising way optimism bias shows up in AI tools, and how to flip it to your advantage.
Why limiting your data sources can make your analysis dramatically stronger.
The role-play trick that helps you see a company the way a short seller, value investor, or even Warren Buffett might.
A simple reframing that turns AI from a stock picker into something far more powerful for decision-making.
The moment in the demo that revealed a blind spot even seasoned investors often miss. On Healthy Waves, host Avik Chakraborty explores how inner change sticks when faith-driven mindset work meets neuroscience—and where ancient botanicals can (and can't) support calm focus. Dr. Laurette Willis (founder, Weight Loss Without Willpower) breaks down renewing the mind (Romans 12:2), CBT-based tools, and a quick bilateral stimulation reset for cravings. Entrepreneur Robert Lattig (Healing Herbals & Roots Kava Bar) shares the cultural roots and modern research interest around Sceletium (Kana) and Kava, plus ethical sourcing with Indigenous partners in South Africa. Together, they examine belief, habit loops, neuroplasticity, and practical daily rituals—without romanticizing shortcuts or ignoring safety. About the guests  : Dr. Laurette Willis — Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, Christian Neuro-Coach; creator of Weight Loss Without Willpower and PraiseMoves. Focus: renewing the mind with Scripture and habit change tools. Robert Lattig — Founder, Healing Herbals & Roots Kava Bar; e-commerce herbal entrepreneur invested in farm-to-formula supply and cultural stewardship for Kana/Kava. Key takeaways: Renewing the mind is daily work: observe thoughts, interrupt the loop, replace with truth-based affirmations (e.g., 2 Corinthians 10:4–5; 1 Corinthians 6:12). Bilateral stimulation (simple left-right passing of an object) can help disrupt craving pathways when paired with a boundary statement. Neuroplasticity supports lasting change when beliefs, behaviors, and body cues align—awareness before action. Kana/Kava are discussed for calm focus and emotional regulation; any use should be informed, legal in your region, and medically supervised if you take prescriptions. Ethics matter: honoring plant origins means fair employment, local reinvestment, and transparent sourcing—not extraction. A sustainable ritual: combine a 2-minute thought audit, bilateral reset, and a values-aligned affirmation; if exploring botanicals, start with education and clinician guidance. How to connect with the guests:   Dr. Laurette Willis: Free mini-course — http://christianweightlosskit.com/ , free gift for listeners, "The Faith-Fueled Weight Loss Blueprint." It comes with a Downloadable Guide and Mini-Course Training video for women of faith who feel stuck in the cycle of overeating and regain.   Robert Lattig: Healing Herbals & Roots Kava Bar (first-time offer mentioned in episode) Educational only. What if the answer to modern chaos isn't another biohack, supplement, or fitness trend? What if it's simply showing up consistently and doing the unglamorous work of discipline?Charles and Heidi Hatley have built their lives around this counterintuitive wisdom. As the voices behind the Kava and Kettlebells podcast, they're redefining healthy living through authenticity rather than algorithms. In this riveting conversation, we explore why consistency trumps complexity every time – whether in fitness, parenting, or personal growth. The Hatleys pull no punches discussing why most "influencers" offer empty promises while lacking results themselves. We dive into their 4 AM training routines, not because they love early mornings, but because they've built the mental fortitude to do what matters regardless of feeling. As Heidi powerfully states, "People think they want the body or the scale number. That's not what you want. You want the process and the lifestyle that comes with it."Their journey extends beyond the gym. We explore their decision to replace alcohol with kava, a botanical alternative providing relaxation without destructive side effects. This choice wasn't about addiction but alignment – creating a lifestyle where they could be fully present for their children while modeling healthy choices.Perhaps most compelling is their approach to education. Rather than merely complaining about the school system, they homeschool their children. This exemplifies their life philosophy: don't just identify problems—implement solutions. As they point out, our education system hasn't fundamentally changed since the 1880s, teaching compliance rather than crucial life skills. If you're tired of chasing the latest trend only to find yourself back where you started, this conversation offers a refreshing alternative: build discipline, embrace consistency, find meaning in service rather than significance, and measure success not by followers but by lives changed.Join the What if it Did Work movement on FacebookGet the Book!www.omarmedrano.comwww.calendly.com/omarmedrano/15min
