Greetings Glocal Citizens! This week we commemorate Africa Day across the African Diaspora. Reflecting on the journeys of liberation that Black people have endured in trial and triumph, I am ever reminded that those that laid the groundwork will never in my heart, mind or acts have done so in vain. As the pillars of imperialism are finally weakening--though, not without reverting to its tried and tested battle techniques--the new next is taking shape in all manner of action and practice across the globe. So today, as I do in some way every day, I salute us all for staying the course and redirecting the path as necessary on the #PanAfricanProgress mission that is imparative to human evolution and a sustainable existence here on earth. Speaking of existence here on earth and the ways that we inhabit it, I came across my guest this week via a connection that I made last year at the Charter Cities Summit in Nairobi. Remi Adeleke, a former U.S. Navy SEAL and entrepreneur, serves as Chairman and Co-Founder of the Small Farm Cities Africa Resilience Fund, a for-profit venture developing sustainable, agricultural communities to combat poverty and human trafficking. Following a successful career as a Navy SEAL, in 2016 he found himself pursuing a careers in writing, speaking, and acting, including the 2017 franchise film Transformers: The Last Knight, SEAL Team CBS, and the 2022 Universal thriller Ambulance. He served as a consultant on Netflix's 6 Underground and Apple+ TV series Invasion. As an educator he co-founded Muskegon Michigan's OPS Academy which opened to inner city students K-8th grade in Fall of 2022. His story is captured in his HarperCollins bestselling autobiography, Transformed: A Navy SEALs Unlikely Journey From The Throne Of Africa, To The Streets Of The Bronx, To Defying All Odds. As you'll hear in our conversation, Remi is also the founder of Kejo Wear a brand changing negativity to positivity one shirt at a time and where he is marrying this social entrepreneurial enterprises with activism; a portion of proceeds go toward supporting efforts to end human trafficking. Former Navy SEAL Diego Ugalde returns to The Jess Larsen Show for one of our most thought-provoking conversations yet. In this throwback episode, Diego opens up about the journey behind his book Leading From the Deep and the lessons he learned from BUD/S training, combat deployments, leadership, trauma, and healing. Jess and Diego explore the realities of mental toughness, what elite performance actually feels like under pressure, and why so many high achievers unknowingly run on fear, shame, and self-judgment. Diego shares powerful stories from his SEAL career, including combat medicine experiences in Iraq, the mindset required to survive BUD/S, and the evolution of his leadership philosophy through psychedelics and consciousness work. The conversation shifts into something deeper: identity, ego, purpose, and the idea that “love can be the gasoline” behind performance instead of fear. What follows is an honest, philosophical, and deeply human discussion about success, suffering, healing, and what it really means to lead yourself and others. This is more than a conversation about Navy SEALs or psychedelics. It's a conversation about becoming whole. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This episode of Transition Drill Podcast explores the long road from uncertainty to elite service for veterans and first responders navigating identity, leadership, and life after high-stakes careers.Retired Navy SEAL Chief David Swarts shares the realities of becoming a SEAL, the cost of leadership during wartime deployments, and what it takes to rebuild purpose after the job changes you.David Swarts grew up outside Cleveland, Ohio, in a working class household shaped by divorce, independence, and a lot of self-direction. College wasn't on his radar. Cars, restaurant work, and construction jobs were. But the environment around him began pulling people toward drugs and trouble, and he knew he needed a way out. That decision led him into the Navy in 1999, where he initially served as an aircraft mechanic attached to a carrier air wing. While working in naval aviation and deploying at sea, the desire to become a SEAL never left him. After completing his initial service commitment, he earned the opportunity to attend BUD/S and entered training during the height of the post-9/11 operational tempo.Swarts describes the intensity of that pipeline, including surviving Hell Week, setbacks in second phase, and the long road through advanced training. After graduating and completing the Special Forces (18 Delta) medic course, he reported to SEAL Team 10 during the most active years of the war in Iraq. He also served with Teams 2 and 5.From combat deployments in places like Fallujah and Afghanistan, to leadership roles within platoons, and an assignment to TRADET, Swarts experienced the relentless cycle of training, deployment, and responsibility that defines life in the teams. He reflects on mentorship, the culture of young SEAL platoons, and how leadership evolves from being one of the guys to becoming responsible for the team. The conversation also explores moments that reshaped his perspective. Becoming a father while deploying. Navigating the pressure of leadership as an LPO. And dealing with accusations of war crimes, twice, and investigations that followed combat operations overseas.Through it all, Swarts offers a candid look at growth inside the SEAL teams, the mistakes that shape him, as well as leaders, and the realities that come with dedicating your life to service.CONNECT WITH THE PODCAST:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/paulpantani/WEBSITE: https://www.transitiondrillpodcast.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulpantani/SIGN-UP FOR THE NEWSLETTER:https://transitiondrillpodcast.com/home#aboutQUESTIONS OR COMMENTS:paul@transitiondrillpodcast.comSPONSORS:GRND CollectiveGet 15% off your purchaseLink: https://thegrndcollective.com/Promo Code: TRANSITION15Blue Line RoastingGet 10% off your purchaseLink: https://bluelineroasting.comPromocode: Transition10Frontline OpticsGet 10% off your purchaseLink: https://frontlineoptics.comPromocode: Transition10

The best podcast for military veterans, police officers, firefighters, and first responders preparing for veteran transition and life after service. Helping you plan and implement strategies to prepare for your transition into civilian life. Retired Navy SEAL Lieutenant Guy McDermott's conversation in episode 191 on the Transition Drill Podcast is a profound exploration of trauma, resilience, and transformation—from surviving an unstable childhood to becoming a leader in one of the world's most elite military units. After 24 years, McDermott transitioned from SEAL officer, into a post-military career as a firefighter and paramedic, he began to confront the suppressed emotional damage left unchecked for decades. That inner conflict, exacerbated by witnessing veteran suicide and his own growing anxiety, led him to the brink of taking his life. Through programs like Save A Warrior, and his current work with Next Peak and Project Restore Hope, McDermott has redefined the meaning of service. His story is a powerful reminder that military transition isn't just about finding military veteran jobs or navigating life after service—it's about healing, identity, and learning how to lead from the heart. His journey offers not just inspiration but a call to action for military veterans and first responders who are ready to stop surviving and start living with purpose, connection, and freedom. It's therapeutic anyway. It takes courage to tell that story. (26:10) • If you do do it, what is it gonna say? You gotta be really sure why you're doing it. (26:30) • It's hard, when you talk to somebody, to tell their story. (27:14) • Having those hard conversations with people. It's kind of difficult. And to put in on film is another level of difficulty. (27:26) • The big thing we were doing was overwatches. Clearance operations, pushing through a sector. Establishing a foothold. (31:31) • Often, we never made it to the next cycle. They would start surrounding us, then we were like “We're out.” Then we'd have to shoot our way out. (32:00) • Everybody got fragged. When you hear a piece of metal land on concrete, it's a very distinct sound. (40:55) • There's nothing I wouldn't do with the guys. Shoulder to shoulder, I'll Walk through the fire • with you guys. When you're by yourself, it's a little scary. (79:45) • Well, if we don't make it, at least we'll all die together. (80:35) • I'd rather die with my bro's, than die alone. Congress avoided a partial government shutdown last week with Senate Republicans getting help from Democrats to pass the President Trump backed continuing resolution. The support from Senate Democrats has led to a rift between party leadership and some more progressive members of the caucus. Overseas, the President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to talk peace in the region, with a phone call expected between President Trump and Putin this week. Nebraska Republican Senator Deb Fischer joins the Rundown to discuss the importance of passing President Trump's agenda, the peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, and to give her reaction to the strikes in Yemen over the weekend. The divorce rate among Navy SEALs and wounded warriors is far higher than the national average. Retired Navy SEAL and best-selling author Jason Redman suffered severe injuries in 2007 when a machine gunners' nest ambushed his patrol in Iraq. He endured thirty-seven surgeries, 1,200 stitches, and a grueling years-long rehab. Miraculously, both he and his marriage survived. Jason Redman and his wife, Erica, join the Rundown to discuss their new book, Mission: Invincible Marriage, and how they overcame the challenges his military career and injuries brought to their marriage-- and how they are trying to help all couples overcome hardships. Today's guest is a true American Badass - Pat Tozzi. Before he was building custom choppers and hot rods at his shop, Green Devil Garage, Pat was a frogman—spending nearly two decades in the SEAL Teams in an ACTUAL leadership role. Upon retiring, Pat transitioned full time into the world of custom motorcycles, channeling his passion for craftsmanship into unique, one-of-a-kind bikes that are as much works of art as they are machines. But it doesn't stop there. Pat's dedication to giving back is equally inspiring. He creates custom art pieces to auction off for veteran nonprofits and foundations, using his talents to support those who have served and continue to serve. His journey is one of transformation, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to both his craft and his community. In today's conversation, we're going to dive into Pat's incredible story—from the SEAL Teams to the garage—and explore the ways in which he's honoring his fellow veterans while building a legacy of his own. In this thought-provoking episode, Retired Navy SEAL turned pastor Todd Peters dives deep into the controversial topic of prepping through a biblical lens. Is preparing for disaster driven by fear or faith? Can Christians embrace prepping in a way that aligns with the gospel?
Every leader faces moments of high pressure and uncertainty—but how you lead your team through those moments is what sets the great apart from the good. In today's episode, Rich Diviney, Retired Navy SEAL and Founder of “The Attributes,” reveals the hidden attributes that drive high performance and why they're more important than skills when it comes to leadership. We'll explore why 90% of people fail SEAL training and what that teaches us about thriving under pressure, the role of adaptability in uncertain times and unpredictable environments, and how leaders can use “healthy imposter syndrome” to stay sharp and keep improving. Rich also shares how understanding your team's natural attributes—not just their skills—can radically change how you lead and create high-performing, resilient teams. ________________ Start your day with the world's top leaders by joining thousands of others at Great Leadership on Substack. Welcome to this week's episode of the Team Never Quit podcast. Today, we are honored to host Bill Wagasy, a decorated U.S. Navy SEAL veteran, former Notre Dame football player, and current VP of national sales for Commonwealth Land Title Company. Bill's journey from the gridiron to the battlefield and beyond is nothing short of extraordinary. In college, Bill played as a reserve outside linebacker under Coach Lou Holtz, and harnessed the lasting influence of Coach Holtz's relentless pursuit of excellence. Post-college, Bill pursued a law degree and a master's in dispute resolution from Pepperdine University. However, driven by a deep sense of duty, Bill joined the Navy and became a Navy SEAL, completing four combat tours between 2002 and 2012—three in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. His specialties included lead sniper, lead breacher, JTAC, and lead navigator. After his military career, Bill discusses the transition to civilian life and working with the Gary Sinise Foundation, and the importance of resilience, duty, and honor in his life and career. We are deeply grateful to Bill Wagasy for sharing his powerful story. His unwavering dedication to service and the indomitable spirit he embodies serve as an inspiration to us all. In This Episode You Will Hear: • The first time she [my sister] ever did Boston [marathon] was the year of the bombing. That was the first public event I ever went to when I got out of the SEAL teams. (16:08) • I feel like a wonderful, all-American upbringing. (22:28) • My coach [at Notre Dame] was coach [Lou] Holtz. (27:43) • One of the greatest things I can say about him [Coach Lou Holtz] – He brought an intensity and a passion every single day for five years I was there. He never had an off day. (27:57) • Do what's right. It's not right to find your teammate's wallet before he loses it. (28:52) • The way you show people you care – is if your part of a team, you have to put forth incredible effort and mental focus. Do your best in every single facet, from execution and preparation. (29:17) • Every day, you've gotta bring it. (29:51) • There's nothing that anybody could've ever said to me when I was going through SEAL training that would have the effect of what Coach Holtz said to me. (32:42) • There's a huge jump between having a dream, and having the courage to follow it. (43:57) • While we were in sniper school, that's when Operation Red Wings went down. (69:20) • When they found you [Marcus Luttrell] it was like a miracle, like no one could believe that you were alive. It was bittersweet because we lost everybody else. (81:46) • Our fastest sniper rifle shoots about 3,000 feet per second, and an explosive goes somewhere around 12,000 to 25,000 feet per second. (95:02) • I was in a vehicle rollover where I shattered my right wrist, and had a level 5 shoulder separation on my left side. I was in the hospital for ten days. (103:59) • He (Gary Sinise) truly lived the example of “We can never do enough for our veterans, but we can always do a little bit more.” (131:10) • If you were to ask me what 2 years I would never want to repeat again in my life, it's the 2 years transitioning out of the military into the private sector and starting from scratch at 42 years old. • I had 1 superpower in BUDS and that was taking cold water and just splattering everybody. (156:24)
Author and retired Navy SEAL Michael Sarraille breaks down the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, from the initial impact to the rescue divers searching for victims. He also discusses the difficulties the intelligence community faces because of the border policies, saying, “I would not want to be in the intelligence community because everybody points a finger when an attack occurs, and right now it's not their fault.” He also warned Americans should “be careful about the narrative we put forward into the world,” because enemies will “maneuver when we are a house divided.”See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

(5:10) • I got told I was stupid all the time; felt I was stupid but I was fast, strong and athletic. I used to get in lots of fights. (5:33) • Our families values were if you can serve in the military, you should. (6:10) • I didn't have any good male role models. (6:21) • [My mom and stepdad] were married 8 years. I was grounded for 7 years and 6 months of that. (8:19) • I literally had my 3rd grade teacher yell to the whole class that I was the dumbest kid she ever taught in her life. (8:57) • My stepdad told me I was dumb every day. (9:03) • {After excelling academically in military training] I thought “Well shit, maybe I'm not so dumb after all.” (11:46) • They walked us around to the different SEAL teams, and they said, “Here's your dream list; put down what SEAL team you want to go to. It was at that moment I realized, “I don't know what a SEAL does.” (12:35) • I didn't know I was getting paid. I figured they're gonna give me a place to live, a uniform, a place to eat. What do I need money for? That's how naive I was. (15:01) • [When I learned that the] military had its own medical school, I figured I‘d give back to the SEAL teams - I'll give back to the community that made me who I am. (21:12) • Because I had been a team guy, and guys trusted me, 1 guy comes in [with a problem], then 2, 4, 6. Within a month I gad 100 guys come in telling me the exact same issues. I thought they were rehearsed. (24:01) • I got to learn a lot pretty quick, and learned a lot of non-traditional stuff. [Because] I can't put people on prescription medication either. (25:19) • It turns out that Ambien destroys 80% of REM sleep. (20:04) • [Melanie] Q: So you have a branded sleep supplement? [Dr. Parsley] A: Yes. Doc Parsley Sleep Remedy. www.docparsley.com(37:03) • This is the most vindicating story of my life. SOCOM hired me, and they had all of the healthcare providers in one room and I did a six hour lecture, and they still use it to this day. (40:18) • We need a pipeline [for veterans dealing with mental issues]. Right now the only pipeline is once people have the barrel in their mouth. (59:11)
