    Clint and Kelly talk about their most recent event: the Ironman 70.3 Victoria.  Just a bit different than IM 70.3 Panama City Beach as the water was about 60 degrees Fahrenheit and the bike course had about 3,300 feet of vertical gain.  However, the experience was thrilling and rewarding nonetheless and Canada is always enjoyable.

    Clint, Kelly and Mark Blaskovich embark on Trinidad, Colorado, to participate in the inaugural Rad Dirt Fest put on by Lifetime.  There was a 165 mile, 99 mile and 38 mile mountain bike race on Saturday, October 2nd, and a 50k and half marathon run on Sunday, October 3rd.  Clint, Kelly and Mark did the half marathon and enjoyed the wonderous scenery of Southern Colorado (not to mention the unexpected rap scene the night before in Walsenburg, Colorado).

    Clint and Kelly (not this one) impart their wisdom from Josh's Taps and Caps in Snohomish…until the batteries run out at minute five.  They relocated to finish up at Crucible Brewing in Everett, Washington.  Both were fun places and it's great that restaurants and food establishments were able to stay open during the second shutdown, albeit outside and in a tent.  But, that's what spot heaters and jackets are for. We discuss having to get comfortable with body functions during endurance events, the importance of physician visits and discovering something called “sports anemia”.  We also discuss Covid vaccinations as a way to ensure races happen again (consider getting vaccinated when you're eligible!).  Kelly preps me for a Kona adventure.  I also think this would be a dream ride.

    I'm joined by the star athlete, coach and mentor, Kyle Keyes of I-Ball Sports Complex in Woodinville, Washington.  In this episode we discuss his journey through basketball, including playing for the University of Montana, the Seattle SuperSonics to the Harlem Globetrotters.  Kyle discusses key attributes any athlete needs to have, such as passion and interest being more important that talent alone.  Talent can also only go so far and needs to be coupled with proper training. He also wants his athletes to think critically as a way to build confidence.   We also discuss potential NBA expansion and key factors to expose sports such as triathlons and ultramarathons to people who may not have access to participate.

    The first attempt at the Tippleman ended up being a swim and bike combo due to technical and logistical issues on top of the typical performance issues.  Clint (not this one) developed a greater appreciation for road shoulders and wishes drivers could be more accepting of cyclists.  It was still a great attempt and he's ready to assault the mountain again, if anything to catch a glimpse of these guys.
