The Narada Falls at Mt. Rainier, WA, USA, was named after Narada Muni in 1893, the same year Swami Vivekananda gave his legendary speech in Chicago. "The falls were named Narada by Arthur F. The majestic Mount Rainier dominates our landscape. Its white glaciers and blue ridges remind us of where we are. Stephen Lias has been given a tall task: Capture all of that, in music. He is the park's first ever composer-in-residence, in celebration of its 125th anniversary. Stephen is here to tell us how he sees and hears the mountain. Beginning in June, 1947, when a news article reached millions about a UFO sighting over Mt Rainier, flying saucer mania began, and lasted through the 1950s. Intensified by an alleged invasion of saucers over Washington DC, nuclear war, and the newly began Cold War, it was a time when the world feared that we may be overtaken by little, green men.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this episode, Natalie shares her journey from starting off her career in California spending time at the beach and hiking in the surrounding area to becoming obsessed with the mountains once she moved to Seattle and experienced the grandeur of Mt Rainier. After a tough experience in her next role in Phoenix, she soon found herself back in Washington finding the healing powers of the mountains and summiting Mt. Rainier to find some confidence and belief in herself. Past that spark, she has since done a solo trip to Switzerland, a return to Switzerland with her cousin where she summited the tallest peak, and trekked in Peru below the massive peaks of the Andes. On top of these incredible trips, she also shares some important mindsets around self-exploration and being present. I am a financial professional with a passion for adventure and a love for my family. My wife, Jennifer, the Head Coach for Franklin College's Women's Soccer team and our two children, Atlas (3) and Skylar (2), bring joy and fulfillment to my life. Alongside them, our 15-year-old black lab, Olie, completes our happy home. Throughout my life, I have accomplished various feats. On a whim, I moved to Colorado's San Luis Valley to work on a honeybee farm for a year. I've ran across the clouds in the Leadville Ultra and summited Mt Rainier; having had the opportunity to watch glass grass grow within its crater. I hike, backpack, climb, swim, sand/snowboard, and most often wander. I love to run. Especially on dirt trails. I've excelled at almost every sport I've played…soccer being the most revered. It's global. And I believe that life can be simplified down to what happens between four lines, two goals and a black and white ball. I believe in teamwork. When I'm not in my suit I wear superhero T's on the regular…and often believe I am one. I love people. When asked what the most important attributes are person can have, I start with the ability to listen, ability to share, and ability to learn. In that order. I'm a teacher, student, and philosopher whose favorite video game is TLoZ. In addition to my personal pursuits, I am a financial professional running a small firm that covers two-thirds of Indiana. Our firm specializes in retirement planning, life insurance, investments, and other financial services. I am extremely proud of the team we have within Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial. Aside from being a part of a organization that helped to raise over $44 million dollars across the country ($3.3 million here in Indiana!) and is determined to make a lasting impact within our community, we are also dedicated to helping our clients navigate the complex world of finance and make informed decisions that align with their long-term goals and aspirations. With a personalized approach, we strive to provide comprehensive solutions that address the unique needs and circumstances of each individual, couple, family or business we serve. As a fiduciary, we prioritize the best interests of our clients and uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. Our commitment to excellence sets us apart, and we take pride in building lasting relationships based on trust and transparency I bring a diverse range of experiences and a love for sports, literature, and the arts to my life and work. Within the central Indiana region, I run a small firm that doubles as a catalyst for positive impact within the community and resource for financial security – specializing in retirement planning, life insurance, investments, and other financial services for everyone. Our guest today is not a part of the majority; he is the very definition of a small minority of athletes doing unfathomable feats. Today Kyle and I are sitting down with Jack Kuenzle, a former Navy Seal who grew up in Dallas Texas. Jack attended Yale receiving his B.A before he joined the Navy Seals and completed Basic Underwater Demolition Seals Training (BUDS). He is best known for his pursuit of FKT,s. Some of his accolades include Beating Killian Jornet's fastest known times on the 66 mile Bob Graham Round, a mountainous traverse around England's lake district. Moreover he beat Killiants FKT on Denali this past year, this is where Jack and I met. Heis also credited with numerous fastest known times such as Mt Whitney CA, Mt Shasta CA, Mt Hood and Mt Rainier to name a few. Additionally Jack is a coach for Evoke Endurance where he is under the tutelage of legendary Coach Scott Johston. In today's conversation we discuss Jack's history, what led him to be the athlete he is today, his training and nutrition and finally we discuss some of his major ascents, FKT's and what he plans to do in the future.Become a supporting member of The Climbing Majority to unlock the exclusive full length video of this episodePlease rate, review the show, and share this podcast with your friends. Well it appears Mt. Rainier has officially turned into a total snoozefest. I was on an airplane flying home from Seattle, with a bird's eye view of the tip of Mt. Rainier, right outside my window. And while I was mesmerized by the view, when I looked around the airplane, no one seemed to care. You know why? Because if your brain is stuck on Tiktok or IG, Mt. Rainier is SUPER boring. Oh, and are you a people watcher? I LOVE to people watch. Or maybe I should say, I USED to love to people watch. People watching has become a big time snoozefest. Why? You guessed it. Everyone's face is glued to their dang phone. I just got back from an amazing trip to Alaska so today on the Spiritual Spiral, I felt inspired to share a couple quick stories from my trip. There was an all day boat tour where we ventured out into the open water to see whales, orcas and even glaciers. One of the greatest days of my life and you know what made the voyage so unforgettable? There was No cell phone service! I also share a couple stories about why I get bummed out people watching inside of airplane terminals. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a family of four, all clenching their phones, and no one is talking to one another. GOOD TIMES! Overview: Today we are honored to have Tim Reynolds back in the studio. For those who listened to Tim's first episode, you will remember that Tim is a distinguished physical therapist as well as an Anatomy and Physiology professor at Ithaca College. In addition to his commitment to the health and rehab field, Tim is an avid outdoorsman with hundreds of grueling paced high peak hikes under his belt. In this episode, Tim walks us through his recent experience taking on Mt. Rainier. We start by talking about the physical preparation that needs to take place in order to not put yourself or your team in harms way. Tim also gives his unique perspective on the orthopedic demands of training for something ultra demanding. We then transition to the story of the climb and many of the challenges that the mountain throws at you. From physical training, mental preparation techniques, dealing with emotions, and hoping for a lot of luck, this episode has it all. I set out from Bend, Oregon, this past Wednesday morning and began the five hour commute up to Ashford, Washington. The whole time I was driving, I fretted about the weather. Rainier, like most big peaks, is known for unpredictable and rapid changes in its atmospheric attitude. Looking back on my experience, I feel like I cheated a little: We summited with cloudless skies and mellow winds. For many climbers, the weather is an obstacle to surmount not unlike the glaciers and vert that make Rainier the challenge that it is. When I pulled into Ashford I was thinking about all of the climbing legends who've been through this place: Ed Veisturs, Mark Twight, Jim, Lou, and Pete Whittaker, among many more. Rainier is a test piece. It's the place where countless climbing careers begin, and some tragically end. As Twight says “the mountains have teeth.” One of the worst accidents in US mountaineering history happened right here in 1981, where 11 people were killed when the Ingraham Icefall fractured and avalanched down the glacier. It was the very same route we'd be attempting. My friends and I went with the four-day climb through RMI (Rainier Mountaineering Inc.), which dates back to 1969 and was one of the first guide services operating in the vicinity. Created by Mari Feher, Hosted by Ania WiktoroviczIn July of 2022 Jaden Stewart of Gallatin County Sheriff SAR in Montana, Karel Kaiser and their partner set out to summit Mt Rainier in the state of Washington via the Ptarmigan Ridge route. As they started out from their high camp in 30+ miles /hour wind, they noticed a lone headlamp from the party ahead of them giving off SOS signals. At this point, the team knew there would be no summit bid in their day as the terrain became increasingly dire with truck size boulders coming loose as they happened upon a climber with a crushed leg. The saga of their 24 plus hour rescue complete with a Chinook and aided by their Inreach and medical training is fascinating to say the least.
On July 1st, 2010, three men ascended Mt. Rainier. At 13,900 feet above the Washington wilderness, Don Storm Jr. and Trevor Lane noticed that their third companion, Eric Lewis, was no longer attached to their rope. Welcome back to The Lore Lodge... Aavron was on Mt Rainier when he slipped and fell, pulling his climbing partner down a slippery slope with him. During the fall, he was impaled by his ice ax. The surgeons said that packing the wound with snow saved his life. Using that resource was life or death to Aavron. By packing snow in his open chest wound, he was able to see his two boys and girlfriend again. Listen into this episode to hear what happened and what Aavron learned from this accident. In May, Erin Pata and I sat down and talked about ranching, art, raising kids, and climbing mountains. It was also about navigating life as a highly sensitive person, listening to your inner knowing, and consciously creating your path in life. If you didn't catch this first episode - I highly recommend returning to it before diving in here. Erin is full of as much wisdom as she is humor, a true delight to listen to. At the time of our last episode, she was looking towards the summit of Mt. Rainier. Late this Summer, I sat down with Erin and talked about that journey. Did she make it to the top? What was the process like? Was the summit the high point of the climb? In this mini-episode, Erin shares her journey and it's one of deep inspiration. It's about doing the thing you've always dreamt of doing, it's about Type 2 fun, and it's about it never being too late to learn a skill in life, to climb the mountain. I guess the real lesson here is to never say never, right? A few years ago I couldn't see any possible way that Roe would be "overturned," but today we saw it happen. There will be a great deal of shrieking and gnashing of teeth and celebrations and finger pointing and yes, there will be violence because that's the inevitable result of emotional hemophiliacs (on both sides) not getting their way on something. Ultimately though, the Dobbs Ruling is far less impactful on your liberty and rights than other rulings that have and are still to come. It just happens to be the one that most people are passionate about, because it's a way to control other peoples behavior, so it's the one about which the shrieking will be loudest. Personally, I am still concerned about the Vega Ruling, which came down on Tuesday and essentially left the status quo in place, creating a huge grey area in which law enforcement may choose to violate procedure without penalty. To that end, I see our purpose now is to educate every American as to their rights under the 5th Amendment and how to deflect the Police from doing so... without penalty. And as a staunch advocate of the Separation of Church and State, I remain deeply concerned about the Kennedy Case, which has not yet been delivered (yes, I realize that by the time you hear this episode, it may very well have already been ruled upon). In a few weeks, Americans will head to the polls. democrats will screech for the next months that ABORTION RIGHTS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE EVAH! They are not, but in the context of elections, what actually is important doesn't matter. My personal position hasn't changed, and I am betting that neither has anybody else's. What has changed is that the direction of the country, like a small meteor a billion miles from earth being nudged ever so slightly by the gravity of a large gas giant, has changed. Where it impacts now, is the real question... because, you can never say never when it comes to something that is inevitable...
