"Sports commentary from a Barbershop Perspective!"
MLB has a problem beyond the diamond, and if you don't think its the umps... you need to go back to Montana... Nascar heads into the future with its next generation of racing... boy is it nice!!!
On today's we ask what team or teams make their respective leagues better or more worthy of viewership when said team(s) are relevant? In just about every other major sport, or at least those I can think of, at some point folks claimed there would never be another then all of a sudden bam, here comes the next guy. Well, there actually may be a case for one dude being able to boast such a claim as being truly one of a kind...
From the moment Texans QB DeShaun Watson was accused of certain wrong doings explicit in nature, we questioned the validity and timing of the accusations hurled his way. In a recent statement put out by Watson's attorney, seems as though the skepticism was not unwarranted. Pick any sport's Hall Of Fame, I guarantee there will be some snubs worthy of conversation/debate til the end of time, but the list I've come across for the NFL may very well be the most glaring of them all...
The NFL decides a 17-game schedule is what's best for bidness, but nobody seems to give a darn whether or not it's what's best for the players. The Padres have 'loaded up' on talent, but will it be enough to pull off the ultimate prize that is the World Series? Manny Pacquiao and Terrence Crawford are allegedly s'posed to duke it out this upcoming June, but the question remains on whether or not folks are as interested in seeing this clash as they had in the past? The Baylor Bears opened up a can on the Gonzaga Bulldogs that I personally didn't see coming. Was the lopsided victory sparked by 'bulletin board' material? Inquiring minds do indeed wanna know... In the land of college football, is Mel Tucker and Michigan State primed to be top dawg in the Michigan rilvary?
We got why MLB pulls the All-Star game due to "voting restriction" measures related to Georgia, and this year's March Madness was all that and then some!
With so much action that went down during the NBA Trade deadline, has the league lost its intrigue? Going by what the Lakers and Nets did, intrigue lost is the least of their worries... Hue Jackson has come out publicly with some choice words about his former employer, the Cleveland Browns, that could spell trouble for someone; question is, who is that someone?
What feels like many moons ago when reportedly there were less than 50 cases of the COVID-19 virus, we brought Dr. Jamil Smith on to discuss what steps people could take to best prevent contracting the virus, and the importance of the body's role in said prevention. Fast forward to March 8, 2021 and we're still very much in the grip of a disease reminiscent of "Sherman's March", so we asked Dr. Jamil back to the show to help explain what measures will help with a more speedy recovery for those who've tested positive, or knows someone dealing with symptoms...
The NBA is said to have 'Player Empowerment' on lock due primarily due to guaranteed contracts, but are we startin to see a paradigm shift of sorts in the NFL, in particular to the QB position? While I respect his take on most things sports related, Paul Finebaum swung and missed badly with his comments about Deion Sanders using Jackson State as a 'stepping stool'... All this so called 'hoop talk' lately bout players not from this ERA being "plumbers", we decided to spotlight my dude Doctor J and what he did at the infamous Rucker Park that won't ever be quantified by mere statistics, and Mos Def disqualifies him as a plumber! Y'all act like REAL COMP didn't exist til 2003...
Niners' do it all TE George Kittle speaks to Head Coach Mike Shanahan's greatness as a play-caller amongst other things. I've heard people say some straight-up bassackward stuff when it comes to sports debate, but nothing like what I've read in the thread of a Facebook group I'm in (Elite Sports Debate), who went so far as to put these absurd takes in a category called "Hall Of Shame"...
At the time this episode was recorded Tom Brady had not won Super Bowl 55 with his new squad, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Even while still a member of the Patriots, the question has been constant as to whether or not Brady is the GOAT. An unrealistic concept in my opinion, but a conversation that's here to stay. Now that TB12 has indeed won a ship outside the confines of Bill Belichick, is it time to not only revisit the GOAT narrative, but label him as TBE QB if not player?
From the casual NFL fan to the most seasoned, who by now, hasn't heard of the goings on down in Texas; Houston to be exact, in regards to DeShaun Watson and his asking to be traded. Let Brett Favre and Dick Vermeil tell it, Watson needs to be quiet and just do what's asked because the Texans are paying him a ton of cash, or just stop whining, as Richard so eloquently put it, even though in the case of Carson Wentz, who demanded a trade like Watson, he claims is the victim of not having enough talent around him. Did SB 55 live up to the hype? Are the refs' to blame for the Chiefs being ineffecient? Is Tom Brady the best QB ever, or all around football player? Did you know the NFL has a HOF section for fans in Canton?
MLB has been mired in its fair share of muck as of late, but naming Ken Griffey Jr as senior advisor to the commisioner could very well not only bring baseball back to the forefront as 'America's Past Time', but also bring the credibility it lost along the way. Although we somewhat discussed LaMelo Ball on last week's show, this time it's more about him rather than whether or not Jordan got it right by selecting him 3rd overall in the 2020 NBA Draft... should be a good one!!!
With the as usual 'questionable call' that IS the NFL, we take a look back at both the NFC/AFC championship games as well as SB 55 and the possible storylines soon to follow. The Hornets Ted Stepien like draft selections over the years have been well documented, but did Jordan finally get it right with the selection of LaMelo Ball? The Big Red Machine will no doubt go down as one of MLB's finest squads to ever grace the field; were the 1998-1999 Bronx Bombers arguably better?
The debate about which NFL Receiver has the 'best hands' is forever ongoing, but today we wanna know who hands were better, Larry Fitzgerald or Chris Carter? Did the Browns lose to the Chiefs in their Divisional Round matchup because the refs missed the helmet to helmet call, or was it a case of not being the Browns time yet? Would the outcome in the Rams and Packers been different if not for the injury to Goff's thumb? We discuss this and more in our 'Divisional Round' Recap plus who will come out on top in the Championship matchups as well. When it comes to fandom, at what point does REALITY deserve an invite?
With week 17 of the NFL season in the books, we now turn our attention to the NFL's version of the 'round robin' set to begin this Saturday and Sunday. Do the winners or losers get to put an asterisk next to the outcome given the rash of COVID cases that seems to have derailed more than its fair share of franchises this season? Wild Card can get all the way through to the big dance? What do you expect to win but would be surprised if they didn't? You've just been selected to be manager of a fighter and get to choose between Carlos Monxon or Marvin Hagler; dare to make that pick? we'll see...
In our 'Question of the Day' portion of the p-ro-gram we ask: how do you grade today's NBA "Draft Prpospects" in this current ERA of positionless basketball? Do you hate finding yourself faced with a conundrum? Welp, this week's 'Take ya Pick' is just that!!! Joe Morgan or Eddie Collins? Although the 2021 NBA season is just now getting underway, we take a look at a few early season surprises...
Things are starting to heat up in the push for a spot in this year's NFL Playoffs, and we'll not only take a look at all the potential qualifiers, but will the picture remain as it stands currently or will somebody get in that we otherwise didn't suspect? If 'Any given Sunday' is indeed true, which teams are a lock, and which are not? So come along for the ride as we dive into each team's dossier of sorts, and the outlook heading into the sportsworld's #1 round-robin tournament!!!
Now that we're more than 2/3rd's in to the current NFL season, don't look now, but the Cleveland Browns are 8-3 with a showdown next week in Tennesse against the Titans, with playoff implications in abundance! Are the Browns for real, or should we all be waiting for the proverbial "other shoe to drop?" A Ravens staffer tests positive for COVID and knowingly goes into the facility; can you say bassackward? I can.. Why do Belichick's former coordinators keep failing as NFL head coaches? We answer these questions and more, on today's episode...
Today we discuss MLS using PPG (points per game), to determine 'playoff seeding', and ask the question of whether or not the other majors (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB) will at some point use the same concept in their respective playoff formats. We also dive into why former ESPN host Bob Ley put the network on blast for this most recent round of layoffs... Last but not least, a 'Did You Know' that's sure to be surprising to many as it was to me...
As usual, the Browns went to Heinz Field and got their heads cracked by the Steelers 38-7, no secret that Baker didn't play well, and to the East, Darnold continues to look woeful in his play as do the Jets in general, but with this being just the 3rd season for both, is it LEGIT or LUDICROUS to ask if it's time for the Browns and Jets to move on? Should Sam and Mayfield be ousted, which decision was right, and which a raw deal? In our "Game of the Week" Niners @ Seahawks, was Russ' performance against the Cardinals an aberration or sign that the wheels may be fallin off from the weight of carrying a Seattle squad whose defense is no longer 'The Legion of Boom', and currently at the bottom of league rankings as a unit? Will the Niners be that ONE NFC West team to possibly finish the season with a winning record and not make the playoffs? We answer all this and more on today's get together at The Shop!!!! Miss it if you wanna...
Steelers did their usual 1, 2 when it comes to the Browns, but the week 7 contest against the Titans should be one for the ages, and quite possibly a precursor to a ship appearance vs. them Chiefs! Seahawks boast one of the league's worst defenses, a far cry from the 'Legion of Boom' days, and yet are sittin pretty in the NFC West at 5-0; crazy or what!? Going up against the Cardinals it's a good bet they'll be 6-0 when all is said and done, even though them 'Red birds' are currently ranked 4th in total offense. Bears take on the Rams in the Monday nite showdown, but did you know they've scored 128 pts only allowing 116??? Not bad for a team who's record many thought the Rams should have. Speaking of which, Goff is overrated and a classic case of 'system QB'... In the "Rilvary Recap", Steelers did to the Browns what they always seem to do when these two get together. Send the Browns home with their tails tucked... we'll dive into that and hit cha wit a Bonus question; Stay Tuned!!!!
Welp, week 6 in the NFL brings us another rendition of 'the rilvary' when the Browns travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers. Will the present look like the past, or is there a new sheriff in town, last name Brown? Packers head to Tampa to take on "Brady's Bucs", and the winner of this contest is no doubt in the driver's seat for 'best in the NFC', while the loser could quickly fade into the depths of obscurity... last but not least, the Chiefs go east to do battle with surging Buffalo Bills; does this current version of the Bills put fans in that SB frame of mind as what once was the norm, or are the Chiefs lickin their chops at the idea of this being the game to get them back on the road to "Destination Dynasty?" Yes, college football has made somewhat of a triumphant return, but why does is it seem surreal???
Today's show features 3 games from week 5 in the NFL: Bucs @ Bears, Bills @ Titans, and Colts @ Browns, with the in-depth info to match, and 3 Burning Questions: Is Seahawks 'signal caller' Russ Wilson the ultimate game ender and closer? Should the Indians hand over managerial duties to Sandy Alomar?? How impressive was Jimmy Butler's Game 3 performance given that he took absolutely NO treys???
The 2020 Presidential 'Primary Election' is but a month and some change away, and today's show is dedicated to taking an in-depth look as best WE can on why this election is not only unlike any I can recall previous, but why the prospect of voting, in the eyes of many, is far more crucial to the outcome of said election, with America's future hanging in the balance...
The 2020 NFL season is well underway, but with a 'rash of injuries' after just the first two weeks, did it come at cost given the abscence of pre-season games? In week 3, the Washington football team takes on the Browns; are the DAWGS for real? Cowboys @ Seahawks; will the 12th Man's favorite signal caller Russ Wilson finally win the league's most coveted award netting his first ever MVP? Chief @ Ravens; is too early to ask which team represents the AFC in Super Bowll 55? On the NBA side we dive into how the East/West Finals are playing out, the ultimate victors in both, and who the two 'Finals' combatants are...
Are y'all ready for some football???!!! welp, the 2020 NFL campaign kicks off in less than 2 days (September 10th), in what many say is an early AFC Championship preview when the Texans take on the Chiefs. We'll take a look at this game, as well as the Browns @ Ravens, and the Bucs @ Saints. Also, renowned boxing publication "The Pugilist", named their top-50 greatest boxers of all-time. What has so many folk up in arms is who they have listed at #1, and who they didn't have...
I'm sure those who live long enough will say 2020 was the mother lode of ALL years in the way of calamity. Another senseless killing of a Black Man, a Congress more suited for kindergarten, and a sportsworld, especially the NBA, so turned upside down no one knows what to expect next. When the Milwaukee Bucks did an about face impromptu 'walk-off' in their playoff matchup against the Magic, I for one thought for sure this was the beginning of the end for the National Basketball Association; not so fast. Just as soon as the boycott spread through 'The Bubble' and other teams took a stand by refusing to play in the wake of another shooting, in the blink of an eye players were right back at it, when they all seemed to "shut up and dribble"... What gives? Would ya believe this is not the first time NBA players staged a walkout?? We discuss this as ONLY we can... beware!!!
Raiders RB Josh Jacobs has a backstory that epitomizes what it means to reach one's goal despite any and all obstacles along the way, in addition to having the mindset required for accomplishing what many would consider to daunting, or not consider it at all...
Welp, despite COVID-19 running rampant, the country as a whole in a 'cultural uproar', and a Ringling Brothers type election on the horizon, we finally have a return of, just in time, NBA basketball, playoff edition!!! We'll take you through some of the first day's action and get you caught up on games in progress during the broadcast, taking you all the way up to the most anticipated contest of these playoffs, Lakers vs Blazers.
49ers TE George Kittle called Head Coach Kyle Shanahan a genius, and after you hear explanation as to why, hard to argue against his reason for saying so. Also, we have from Elite Sports Debate 'Hall of Shame', a pretty lengthy list of some of the absolute most outlandish sports takes from members who just may be in NEED of serious medical attention... ASAP!!!
Ever wonder why why former Sixers great Dr. J and Celtics Larry Bird didn't get along? Believe it or not, they acutally were cool with one another until it was time to do battle, then all bets were off... Lakers fans, fake and real, seem unwilling to give credit to where credit is due, but I'm here to tell you they better get rid of that attitude if addin another banner to the rafters is the goal this season, and realize the Lakers BEST chance for doing so, this season, lies with the Anthony Davis. They go as he goes, nobody else; period...
With the COVID-19 still running rampant amongst the land, and the NFL season set to return in a matter of minutes, there have been a rash of players choosing to Opt-Out of the 2020 campaign that I don't think anybody saw coming. Chiefs RG Laurent Duvernay was the first player to do so, and there's been a ton more, and counting, ever since... Former Washington Football Team signal caller Alex Smith has been cleared by his medical team to participate in full team activities; is this good or bad? Think the NBA is all smiles and candy corn??? Not according to former Champ David West; wait til you hear what he had to say about recent Knicks hire Tom Thibodeau...
Former heavyweight champ and Mr. "Grillmister" himself, George Foreman put out his top-10 heavyweight list, which interestingly enough didn't include him, ESPN's Mike Greenberg asks the question, "would DeShaun Watson do in Andy Reid's offense what Mahomes has done, and we take a look at college basketball's ALL-TIME single season PPG leaders...
Never in ALL my years of being a Browns fan did I EVER think I would WITNESS, not only a 'winless season', but a full blown "city celebration" to honor such a rare and shameful occurrence. At the time this show was recorded, we ask is it high time college athletes be compensated? NFL Playoffs are the top of the food chain...
A look back on one of our most 'whacky' episodes!!!! (6/19)
Did you ever think the day would come when you'd hear the words, "entire women's softball team quits after being unbeknowingly included in racist propoganda?" Me neither... Not often while purusing the 'Facebook timeline' do I come across a post that prompts me to add it to the list of topics for the show, but when I saw a post that asked "why is Roger Craig NOT in the NFL Hall of Fame, wasn't much else left for me to do other than to bring it to the platform; I didn't know he wasn't in. Trouble in Tunisia??? why one Tunisian tennis player got banned... last but not least, we give y'all some 'shop talk' on the proposed July 3oth startup for the 2020 NBA season...
what in tarnation is goin on wit MLB that it has gone from being America's pastime to past tense? We go over some of the latest news and notes surrounding Major League Baseball, and whether or not the season should resume or be cancelled altogether. Lavar Ball all but made the worst outta his first trip down "15 minutes of fame" lane, but this time I understood full well the words that were comin outta his mouth. Although it's been a few weeks now, Chris Broussard made the statement Steph Curry is better than Iverson, but never really gives detail as to based on what exactly... welp, like my dude Kobe Jelly Bean Bryant, DETAIL is what we do!!!!
Sports Talk is usually our main course of discussion, but in light of recent events that have taken place throughout this country, sports, in particular, is the furthest thing from our minds. Social Injustices in America have gone on far too long, and a cancer that must FINALLY be addressed with action that goes beyond protest. The current goings-on is the focus of our discussion today, and just may continue to be for quite some time... we'll do our best to keep you up to date on all things sports related, but the fate of humanity comes first...
In our ongoing coverage of the events surrounding the untimely and unfortunate death of George Floyd at the hands of some Minneapolis police officers, we decided to get the perspectives of the next generation of the future we should all envision, in addition to a mental health professional to help break down the psychological aspect of why such hatred from one race could be had for another, and just how deep rooted the disdain lies.
While in the midst of an ongoing pandemic (COVID-19), America finds herself, yet again, on the doorstep of another ongoing pandemic of sorts, that has plagued this country since as far back as I can remember, which is none other than the never ending subject of RACISM, and in particular, as it relates to police brutality. What took place in the case of George Floyd who died senselessly at the hands of a Minneapolis Minnesota police officer has become an alarming norm that is often discussed, but has never REALLY been addressed. Well, today's show is not only abbout addressing this vile and despicable crime, for CRIMINAL it is, it's also about finally finding solutions to what feels like for a Black Man living in this country, everyday "being on TRIAL"...
I was all set to discuss with Bro. Rich, Double J, and D Gulley my thoughts on EP:10 of The Last Dance, when outta nowhere we were given the opportunity to have a sit down with basketball operations associate and player development for the Santa Cruz Warriors (Golden State's G-League affiliate), and head coach of their 2K version, "Warriors Gaming Squad"... this one was REALLY action packed from begin to end; 1994 ECF Knicks Pacers all over again!!!
I'm not enthralled by all the "top lists" debates that seem never ending, but the one former NBA tough guy Bruce Bowen put out actually piqued my interest enough for me to make it a topic of discussion on today's show. While most of the world is itching for NBA games to resume, China apparently ain't havin it, and made the comments to match... Are you satisfied with The Last Dance, or do you feel there's more to the story that's NOT being told? Has your perspective changed when it comes to "ERA comparison?" We dive ALL IN as only we can!!!
In an effort to avoid having to scrap the 2020 season, MLB has rolled out its plans to get the games back up and going again, and how they've proposed to do it might not be such a bad idea. Hawks 95 year old, just kidding, swingman Vince Carter said he won't sell his soul for no championship, but some folk feel it's 'just talk' cause he's on the downside of his career although I highly suspect those folk have no concept of what principle means... The Last Dance has thrilled us like no other documentary in quite some time; was Craig Sager -may he RIP- outta bounds for asking Krause that question? Were the Bulls opponents gluttons for punishment?? Can somebody please explain to me how 'stats' and "the will to win at all costs" are synonomous???
For what seems like all my life, the NCAA has been steadfast in NOT compensating players for their likenesses while at the same time raking in profits to the tune of billions of dollars off of said likenesses, but in a recent about-face, have changed their tune on "Pay to Play" compensation. What changed? Is it pressure from the G-League in offering players upwards of $300,000 coming straight outta high school? The Coronavirus pandemic? Or was it simply time for a change? The Last Dance documentary has provided in-depth insight into the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls 'Final Season', and a behind the scenes look into the life of Michael Jordan the basketball player. Why is the competition Mike faced considered by 2DayBA enthusiasts as janitors and plumbers? Was the mention of Craig Hodges omitted intentionally? Come take a ride with us as we answer ALL this and more!!
Did the 2020 NFL "virtual Draft experience" live up to YOUR expectations, or is the "live version" the preferred choice? Do the selections made by your favorite team make them 'Super Bowl' contenders, or is it 'wait til next year' as usual? Which teams were the winners or losers? Has The Last Dance documentary changed your mind on the whole "GOAT Debate", or are you stickin to ya guns? Krause no doubt built the Bulls, but was it his EGO, or Scottie's 'contract situation' that led to their demise? We answer all this and more!!!
With the long awaited, highly anticipated documentary "The Last Dance" finally gracing our screens, folk who don't know will now get an in depth look as to why Jordan is at the center of "The GOAT" conversation in addition to the difficulty the Bulls faced in general that 1997-98 season knowing that this would be their final hurrah, and why Phil aptly labeled it "The Last Dance"...
the UFC's Dana White seemed all set to forge ahead being the first sports entity to hold events as planned, despite the 'gag order' so to speak, for all major sporting events being canceled or put on hold, due to Coronavirus and its paralyzing effect felt by the entire sports world as we know it, but like all the other majors Dana was told his show was a no go from higher up; what's next for Dana and the UFC? The NFL Draft is but a mere few days away, but in an odd twist unlike drafts in the past, for the first time ever players will be selected by way of 'virtual reality'... is this the future for the draft going forward? Which team benefits the most? Could this draft go down as potentially one of the worst ever? Is playing 'without the fans' the best option? We answer as best we can just what exactly sports may look like down the road...
eSports seems to be all the rage nowadays, is it the new norm, and will it still have a place when "true sports" makes its return? 'Measurables or Modus Operandi'... which one determines what a player is?
Today we ask, other than the obvious or most talked about, who is your most memorable 'Sports Figure?' If you were an NBA head coach with the PG/SG spots left to fill, would you want Iverson as the PG and Klay Thompson at SG, or Steph Curry at PG and Iverson at SG?? In his letter titled, "an open letter to Wilt Chumperlame", Kareem Abdul-Jabbar gave 'the stilt' a piece of his mind in a subtle, but scathing way. Known for being a pretty reserved type dude, join us for the breakdown of it all on this week's show!!
When we last met, our discussion surrounding the NFL's New CBA (collective bargaining agreement) had yet to be signed, and there were a number of factors which held considerable weight in regards to how soon, and if, a deal would be reached before the strt of the new league year. Who had more to lose or gain with a new deal being done with a year left on the current deal, how much of a factor was the TV contracts, and what, if any, would be the ramifications for marijuana usage to name a few. Well, not that a new deal has been voted on, we decided to revisit the whole issue to determine if the new deal is Fair or Foul, and for whom??
