Nick Kostos is LIVE on this NFL Week 18 Sunday. Nick reacts to BOTH of Saturday's NFL games, and explains why he is out on the Seahawks & 49ers winning the NFC.
The highly anticipated winner-take-all Week 18 between the 49ers and Seahawks didn't quite live up to the hype. Seattle's defense stifled San Francisco's offense, as the Seahawks pulled out a 13-3 win to secure the NFC West title and the conference's No. 1 seed, while the 49ers now have a more difficult postseason path on the road. On this episode of "49ers Talk," co-hosts Matt Maiocco and Jennifer Lee Chan discuss how the Seahawks thoroughly outplayed the 49ers from their potent rushing attack to their unrelenting pressure on the defensive line. Matt and Jennifer also discuss some silver-linings as the 49ers hit the road for the NFL playoffs and how some scenarios are more favorable than others.--(0:00) Week 18 regular-season finale didn't live up to the hype(1:30) Recalling last time 49ers scored three points or fewer(6:00) Purdy pressured by Seattle's D-line all night(7:30) 49ers looked slow and for good reason, playing third game in 13 days(11:00) Missed tackles were a huge issue for the 49ers in loss(16:00) Greg Papa, the voice of the 49ers, returns to radio booth(18:00) 49ers now must make improbable run during playoffs(20:00) Looking ahead to 49ers' possible first-round playoff opponents(25:00) 49ers' don't have much margin for error, but goal still attainable Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Join us as we celebrate the Seahawks defensive dominance on their way to victory and clinching of the NFC West title. We highlight the ineptitude of the 49ers offense that was considered one of the hottest in football coming into Week 18. But CMC and Purdy were shut down entirely thanks to relentless pressure from the Seahawks front. Nick Emmanwori stood out as he continues his campaign for defensive rookie of the year and Drake Thomas came up with a clutch turnover late in the game to help keep the Niners out of the end zone. The offense didn't need many points. They controlled the clock with Ken Walker and Zach Charbonnet balancing out an efficent game by Sam Darnold. The biggest critique was a missed touchdown opportunity that could have broken the 49ers spirit much earlier. We touch on the potential opponents the Seahawks could face in two weeks as the Packers, Rams, Niners and the NFC South champion all have potential to visit Seattle for the divisional round. The Rams beat the Cardinals today and are officially locked into the 5th seed. Their playoff run begins now. While your eyes may not tell you that the Rams are able to win the Super Bowl this season, the odds will. And they'll also tell you that Matthew Stafford is your MVP. It's true that the last three weeks have been shaky, but there's no doubt from anyone within the Rams' facility that they have a great shot to win it all when they're fully healthy. The Seattle Seahawks will need to go through the San Francisco 49ers to take the number one seed that they've needed for each of the Super Bowl runs. The Niners offense is on a hot streak, but how much of it is due to high level play vs low caliber NFL defenses? This Seahawks defense is much improved over the team that only allowed 17 points against a healthy Week 1 Kyle Shanahan offense. Sam Darnold's journey through the NFL and even through this season takes center stage once again. The NFL works in funny ways sometimes and this game sets up for a redemption ark that goes back to his final regular season game with the Minnesota Vikings. Are there concerns about the explosiveness of the Seahawks offense? We talk about how the first game against the Los Angeles Rams marks a clear turning point in how explosive this offense has been late in the season. In the second half of the show, we talk about the Hall of Fame finalists and how it may just be the NFL setting up Seahawks fans for a Seahakws-heavy 2027 class that could include Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman, Marshawn Lynch and Mike Holmgren. Oddsmakers and the Las Vegas Raiders fall into the Do Better bin this week. But maybe Vegas has a plan in place for one of their players that could include Seattle? Better at Life honors are unanimous this week for the Atlanta Falcons. Join our Sea Hawkers Podcast Pickem League - free prizes for weekly winners. Support the show Get in the Flock! The Rams are in a weird spot. If Seattle wins, the Rams own the 5th seed and would go play the winner of the NFC South (Panthers or Buccaneers). If the 49ers win, the Rams would fall to the 6th seed and would have to travel to Chicago or Philadelphia for the first round of the playoffs. REGARDLESS of what happens, Sean McVay decided that he wants to play the starters. Because this team needs it more than they ever have, and if they want to win it all, they need to start gelling again. Reinforcements are on their way, and the truth is: absolutely no one wants to see the Rams in the playoffs when they're fully healthy. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
