The New Orlean Saints have traded Sean Payton to the Denver Broncos and are now back in the first round of the NFL Draft. Quarterback Hendon Hooker could be worth an investment for the fifth-year option or trench players like O'Cyrus Torrence and Andre Carter could go from Senior Bowl prospects to New Orleans Saints in 2023. But did the Saints get a fair return for the trade? Why it was less than John Gruden's trade and why it should have been exactly that. Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…
Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper will meet with former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton today in New York. According to Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate Saints GM Mickey Loomis is looking for similar compensation that the Raiders received they traded John Gruden to Tampa Bay years ago. Meaning that the Panthers would have to part ways with multiple first-round picks in order to acquire the Super Bowl-winning HC. But that leaves the question of how the Panthers will then acquire a franchise QB. Can the Panthers trade for Sean Payton and find a franchise QB this offseason? Julian Council answers that question among other listener questions in this week's edition of the Weekly Friday Mailbag. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Today's word of the day is 'unimaginably sad day' as in the words used by Virignia president Jim Ryan to describe what happened on Sunday night when a former football walk-on murdered three football players and injured two others. Let's talk about what we know about this, how from what we've read this was handled, and what happens next. (11:55) Mark Davis gave Josh McDaniels the public vote of confidence. Why now? The Raiders are 2-7 this season, which is bad. But, did we forget how bad John Gruden was? (20:10) Jeff Saturday made his debut with the Colts in that win against the Raiders. Let's talk about what Jim Irsay did here. Was it really that bad? (27:10) Review: Causeway. (30:30) So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me how the Yankees handle their free agents: do they wait for Aaron Judge or act as if he's gone? What about players getting the qualifying offer? When do you take it and when do you leave it. (42:50) We have an update on Wait To See: Julio Rodriguez and Michael Harris win - but what the story is is what Rodriguez and Adley Rutschman earned. (47:00) NPPOD. I saw an incredible sunrise this morning - today will be a good day! This week, we look over the career & crazy times of a man who saw nothing but success in the NFL. An all pro, super bowl champion & apparent hang out buddy of Peyton Manning. Off the field, it's getting so drunk that you can't remember punching a cab driver, as he drove 75 mph on the interstate, or gun play in a strip club parking lot, or teaming with your mother to try to shoot your sister's boyfriend. Things like that. It's fighting with teammates, during your first 5 minutes in the NFL. The Miami Heat now trail the Eastern Conference Finals three to two after Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics coasted to a game five win. Colin Kaepernick may actually have a legitimate shot at reviving his NFL career with the Las Vegas Raiders. The Philadelphia Eagles, despite a strong offseason, find themselves still looking up at the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East. Also, the St. Louis Blues won one of the most thrilling Stanley Cup Playoff games over the Colorado Avalanche and force a game six, the trial of John Gruden versus the NFL may actually take place, the Seattle Mariners lost a series to the Oakland A's and find themselves in last place in the AL West, and the Cincinnati Reds rode the hot bat of Joey Votto to a win over the Chicago Cubs.
