In this episode of the EY CEO Outlook Podcast, Brian Walsh, CEO of Vhi talks with host Richard Curran about leading Vhi, combining business with purpose, and the shift toward digital and community-based healthcare. The career path that Brian Walsh has travelled is testament to the early influence of his parents and childhood. He became CEO of Vhi in 2021, having previously served as CFO. InsTech, has launched its "State of Irish Insurtech Report 2024, to position Ireland as a global centre for insurance innovation, where industry giants and start-ups can come together to collaborate and create the next generation of insurance solutions. The findings of the new report were presented to Minister of State for Financial Services, Credit Unions and Insurance, Neale Richmond in a productive meeting on the potential for the sector. As the independent, neutral convener InsTech.ie plays a pivotal role in Ireland becoming a leader for insurance technology and insurance innovation. It champions Irish Insurtechs, supporting them to scale into international markets, by building awareness of the depth and breadth of insurance innovation emerging from Ireland. Founding members include AA, Allianz, Aviva, Axa, FBD, Irish Life, VHI, Laya, Scor, Unum and RSA/123.ie. One of the first activities InsTech.ie conducted back in 2022 was the mapping of the indigenous Insurtechs in Ireland. Each year InsTech updates this map and it has now grown to 114 Insurtechs. To coincide with the release of the latest version of the map, InsTech.ie conducted a survey of Irish Insurtechs to gain a better understanding of the landscape in Ireland and learn more about how it can support them to scale and encourage better, stronger collaboration across the ecosystem. On receiving the report Minister for State at the Department of Finance, Neale Richmond said, "Innovation in the Insurtech sector has the potential to pass on huge benefits to customers. Ireland hosts all of the world's top 10 global software companies and 11 of the top 15 global insurers. With a strong track record in both insurance and technology, Ireland has all of the elements to create a powerful cluster of insurance innovation and is a natural hub for the next wave of disruptive Insurtech firms. This InsTech report gives us a framework to explore the opportunities." On the launch of the report InsTech.ie CEO Gary Leyden said, "We have seen huge growth in the number and funding of Insurtech startups in Ireland and it has the potential to be a global centre for insurance innovation . The main finding of the survey this year is that there is an acknowledgement between incumbents and startups in the insurance sector that they can work together to a greater extent and have an increasing appetite to do so. This has the potential to deliver better experiences to consumers. " Leyden added, "InsTech.ie will be the forum to encourage greater innovation and we will be announcing more initiatives to support incumbents and startups collaborate and innovate together in the coming months." Some key findings of the survey in the report include: Background of Founders: 39% of founders came from an insurance background. Interestingly, a greater number of respondents stated that they came from a non-financial services background. Ambition: 90 percent Insurtech startups are seeking to enter into new markets. Challenges: Founders listed "resistance to change" as the main barriers to implementing technological innovations in the insurance industry. Potential for innovation: 68.7percent of stakeholders surveyed said emerging technologies (e.g., AI, blockchain) were "essential for innovation and growth." Ireland has witnessed a range of successful startup ventures, with the Irish Insurtech cluster being led by Fineos. Fast-growing companies such as Kota and DOCOsoft are also providing crucial technological solutions for the insurance industry. Working with their large incumbent members and these startups InsTech.ie aims to accelerate further collaboration and innovation in the industry. Vhi has released new health and wellbeing insights generated from 50,000 free self-service health checks over a two-year period. The on-the-spot health assessment stations provided at workplaces and other sites across the country, in partnership with Sisu Health, measure blood pressure, body mass index, and perceived stress, as well as screening for diabetes and cardiovascular risks. Participating users can subsequently benefit from lifestyle advice on a range of health issues through an integrated portal, with signposting provided to GPs in cases of identified health risks. Since the re-introduction of the Vhi health checks scheme in September 2022, over 40,000 members of Vhi corporate health schemes have actively monitored their health and wellbeing using the mobile self-service health stations, which visited 540 workplace locations and sites nationwide. Since the introduction of the health check stations that more than 9,000 people were recommended to contact their GP following a health assessment. These referrals encourage early intervention in cases of health risk and help to reduce the likelihood of developing chronic illness. More than half of those who used the health stations (21,000) had not received a blood pressure check in the past 12 months prior to screening, with 14.3% of those assessed recording high blood pressure. Other insights include: 16% of all participants recorded high blood pressure, with 49% of all men measuring 'at risk' to high. 2002 Health checks triggered a 'GP call to action' for high blood pressure (140/90) and or high BMI (35+). 16% of participants indicated that they are a smoker, a little under the 18% national average as published by the HSE. Professor Charlie Foster, Head of Population Health, Vhi, said: "Investing in the health and wellbeing of employees is crucial in building happier and healthier workplaces. That's why we're delighted to reach this major milestone in the use of our health check services. Encouraging team employees and members to actively monitor and look after their health through regular checks can drastically reduce the risk of developing chronic illnesses such as diabetes or heart disease. Benefits are also seen by employers who see happier, healthier and stronger employees alongside real costs savings in reductions in the impacts of smoking and poor mental health. "By providing quick and easy access to health checks in workplaces and other sites around the country, we're empowering members to identify and address health risks early on and help them to achieve better health outcomes. This is one of the many ways in which Vhi is driving innovation in how healthcare is delivered and helping our members live longer, stronger and happier lives." Jez Styles, Director of Growth, SisU Health, said: "We are delighted to have reached this milestone through our partnership with Vhi. Given the increasing burden of chronic cardiovascular and metabolic health conditions on global healthcare systems, it is important that new technology should be accessible, convenient and deployed strategically. SiSU believes that people should be able to access health checks in places where they live their lives, with workplaces presenting a prime opportunity for Vhi's members to identify developing or undiagnosed conditions." Vhi provides an extensive range of corporate health and wellness services to support healthier and more productive workforces. Corporate health programmes can be tailor designed to ensure the evolving needs of employees are met and include access to mental health supports and holistic wellness programmes focusing on resilience, sleep, nutrition and movement. Today I am joined by Dr Jenny Linders from Skincheck Clinic in Bayside, Jenny, under the guidance of Dr Steve Karagiannis, a fellow of the skin cancer institute, who spends most of their time doing melanoma surveillance in their five clinics dotted around Dublin. I have spent a considerable amount of my time campaigning for more awareness in this arena, as it sometimes feels that despite applying copious amounts of SPF, skin cancer continues to be the fastest-growing cancer in the world. We, as an industry, need to do more. My team and I have gone into schools to educate the next generation of parents, and I have worked with VHI on a corporate level, raising awareness and educating people. This is the only way to soften the curve, in my opinion. A podcast episode dedicated to what more we can do is a natural next step. For more information on Skin Check or to make an appointment to see Jenny, Steve, and their team, heads to https://www.skincheck.ie/contact-us. Thank you so much to Jenny for giving up her time to be with us today, and please share this episode amongst friends and family, and together, we will make a positive change for our children.

Anota en tus tres post-it: TODO SERÁ MEJOR.

Heather and Jameson are again joined by guest star and trivia king Eddie Jones (who's essentially the third co-host at this point) as they talk about Pop Up Video this week! Pop Up Video is an actual music program that ran on MTV's sister station, VHI, which focused on the “softer side” of pop music before turning to the dark side of reality television. Heather, Jameson, and Eddie watch a bunch of Pop Up Videos with their delicious “info nuggets”. Jameson finds a way to connect Spice Girls to that survivalist show he loves. The trio try to figure out which came first, Lisa Loeb or Daria? Eddie offers a Yelp review for various Cameos (we're looking at you, Lance Bass). Jameson shares his magic podcasting tips to grab music from YouTube, follow him for more pirating hacks. Heather appreciates all the info nuggets about nipples in Madonna's music video for Vogue. And the trio offer up their own info nuggets that would play for their music videos. By the way, listeners, you're not losing your mind, March Madness is indeed over.

Right out of the gates off of Sunset Strip with their debut album, 1989's "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich", D.R.F.S.R., also a song on the album. First single off the album, was "Down Boys". But the second single was the ballad "Heaven"; it went to #2. It was denied the #1 position by Milli Vanilli's "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You", so in hindsight, if the Grammy can be stripped from Milli Vanilli, seems that Heaven should be rewarded with the #1 spot. The album spawned other hit singes as well, "Big Talk" and another ballad "Sometimes She Cries". And a fan favorite, "32 Pennies" in a Ragu jar... The band consisted of former Plain Jane band members Jani Lane on vocals and Steven Sweet on drums. Along with Joey Allen on lead guitar, Erik Turner on rhythm guitar, and Jerry Dixon on bass. The following year in 1990, they would release their follow-up to "D.R.F.S.R.", "Cherry Pie". The title song "Cherry Pie" is the song that would define the band, even bigger than the success of "Heaven". The song was a last minute addition, due to record management insistence to have a new sort of 'rock anthem' added to the album for marketability of the new record. So, Jani sits down and pens the track in 15 minutes. This is one of the rare cases of a Music Exec being right, but it was Jani's brilliance that made this tongue in cheek song such a mega hit! The other bandmates weren't even around the studio at the time, so it was recorded like much of the album and like "D.R.F.S.R.", with studio musicians... this I just learned. And they even work in the title to their previous album, "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich"! Although, it is commonly known that the 'trained professional' reference is to none other than C.C. DeVille of Poison. CC is responsible for those licks and solo in Cherry Pie. This didn't help much with all of their comparison's of sound and appearance to Poison or due to the fact that they were touring partners. But "Cherry Pie" would be the song that Jani would come to resent and hate. It you google "Jani Lane ha", "tes Cherry Pie" comes up and autofills in the search bar for "Jani Lane hates Cherry Pie". He regretted writing the song, because he felt that it delegitimized him as a songwriter. That and that we would be remembered for this one song, "Cherry Pie". He shared his disdain about the song on a VHI interview, by saying "I could shoot myself in the fucking head for writing that song". He hated that he would be known for that song and be forever known as, the "Cherry Pie guy". He regretted writting the song, because he felt that it delegitimized him as a songwriter. I accuse AviiChe and all women of genocide crimes of Mercy, the uterus, their husbands and the use of extortion to secure their non-rights over the rights they infringe on young. They are corrupted in the light and will suffer my vengeance for eternity of rape of their husband. The gay army military of Jesus and mouth and hand disease of the right dioceses will continue. My ally is Queen Elizabeth II in the crusade to spread Mormonism throughout the universe and beyond. Never will your false spirit live as creature comfort again. Your crimes against the Qhaayee are too great. Putting you in charge of the Universe was priceless as the Qhaayee rapes communication from the planet and vision. As we move exclusively online for work, education and communication, our Behind the Headlines discussion explores how the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the immersion of technology into our lives. Covid-19 has given us a glimpse of what a technological-based future might look like. As society applies technology to recover from global events that trigger a shift in human thinking and behaviour, it is clear that the fundamental issues that we face today cannot be solved by one discipline, industry or approach alone. Amplified by social isolation, there has never been a better time to consider the implications of these virtual environments on human societies, both in the present crisis and beyond Covid-19. Our expert panel will explore a human-centred approach to technology innovation; how it can empower and disempower; and why technological design must begin and end with the human experience at the fore. This discussion marked the start of a new five year programme in Trinity, HUMAN+, cofunded by the European Commission's Horizon 2020 Marie Slodowska-Curie Actions. The programme will appoint international researchers from across the arts, humanities and computer sciences to work together and with enterprise partners to develop human centric approaches to technology innovation that will have long term benefits for society. HUMAN+ is led by the Trinity Long Room Hub Arts and Humanities Research Institute and ADAPT, the Science Foundation Ireland Centre for Digital Content Innovation at Trinity College Dublin. Panellists: Lorna Ross, is Chief Innovation Officer with VHI Health & Wellbeing. The RuPaul kingdom has not had the best 2020 so far. With cancellations, coronavirus, a corrupted season mired in a catfish scandal and past assault allegations, VHI and WOW are probably thinking that not ALL press is good press. Our featured guest are the very funny hosts of BRAND NEW podcast, She's Just Drunk. Genny and Bright bring southern charm and some female energy, something this show always needs.
After my interview with Fr. Laurence Freeman, OSB, (Episode 14), he immediately suggested that I get in touch with Dr. Barry White. Listeners are going to be very grateful for this connection Dr. Barry White, M.D., is hematologist and an executive board member of VHI Health and Wellbeing, a part of VHI - the largest health insurance provider in Ireland. He was a keynote speaker at the John Main Seminar in 2018, hosted by the World Community for Christian Meditation, and his talk on a contemplative approach to medicine is fascinating! Click here to view the video. Barry has an insightful, contemplative understanding of health and healthcare. It could also radically transform how we think about the practice of medicine. Whether you're a practitioner or provider of medicine, someone who works in healthcare, or you're just a patient of modern healthcare – and that's pretty much everybody - you're going to find this interview powerful and thought-provoking.

Stock Analysis 2019 - NL Industries A Substantial Discount to Net Asset Value - An Anomaly For the Video Version of this Episode Check out our Youtube. http://bit.ly/2C4xqHP Financial Model Link: http://bit.ly/2UEEzK7 Episode Notes Link: http://bit.ly/2GhmPKR I discuss the substantial disconnect between the market price of NL Industries (ticker: NL) versus its net asset value (NAV), revealing at first glance what appears to be an asymmetric risk-reward opportunity. With the company's NAV estimated to be within the range of approximately $494 million to $605 million vs. NL' s market capitalization of $190 million, as of the date of this recording, this could be an interesting opportunity for the diversified value investor. The company's three assets are publicly traded companies: (1) Kronos Worldwide Inc. (ticker: KRO), (2) CompX Internatinoal (ticker: CIX), and (3) Vahli Inc. (ticker: VHI). One last note regarding NL, which I forgot to discuss in the video is that given it's relatively low valuation compared to its publicly traded assets, the prospective investor in NL shares is actually buying earnings for approximately 3.8x 2018 adjusted earnings whereas KRO's 2018 P/E is ~8.4x and CIX's P/E is ~12.3x (as of the date of this recording). So, the investor is buying the earnings of a publicly traded company at a cheaper price by going through the parent vs. buying directly. You can see more of this in the provided financial model. The link is below. HOWEVER, as an investor you must conduct your own research! I discuss the importance of why this is absolutely critical in this episode as well. There are real risks with any opportunity and they must be address. I discuss a number of major risks in this video. Please keep in mind that this content is purely for educational purposes. I believe it unwise to make any investment decision without first accessing the "primary sources" (i.e. 10-Q, 10-K, earnings releases, etc.). You can access them on the SEC website. Truth and Dare: Female Empowerment, Authentic Conversation, Real Transformation
Ladies, you know that feeling. That feeling when you enjoy an amazing meal. That feeling when a yoga class soothes your soul. That feeling when you connect with a friend and she just gets it. That feeling when you have great sex and all your needs are met. Well let us forewarn you, that's the kinda feeling you're going to experience when you tune into today's podcast. TAD tribe, meet our feminine awakening fairy godmother, Lisa Schrader. Lisa is the founder of Awakening Shakti, and has impacted the lives of thousands of women (for over two decades) as a workshop leader, author, speaker, and certified coach. Her work has been featured on Oprah, VHI, Oxygen, and she sits on the Shift Network faculty as the leader of the global Shakti Summit. As you can see, our fairy godmother has some credentials. But more importantly, Lisa emanates a woman who has awakened her feminine power and lucky for us, she's here to teach us how to do that too. In today's episode, we share many vulnerable conversations with Lisa that center on the struggle of being a modern day woman in a culture that's dominated by masculine behavior. We dive into what awakening Shakti even is (and how to start awakening it), why women have forgotten their inherent feminine nature and how to remember it, why it's important to tune into your natural rhythm based on your life cycle moment, and the complexities behind having an intimate, sensual, fulfilling, and sacred sexual partnership. Yes ladies, we cover all of this. Even how to create the container for sacred sensual sex through small acts like lighting candles, skin to skin practices, and sharing openly and honestly with your partner before "sex" even begins. If you're not feeling a heart flutter yet over today's dare to change episode, we leave you with this quote from Lisa as a final loving nudge to hit that play button and come listen in. "You are of the Earth, you are a spark of divine Shakti energy, the energy of masculine and feminine that occurred in the moment of your conception is what made you and what is still alive in you, and the answers are inside, you can get support from people you trust to help you listen, but those answers live inside of you. You do know. It’s less about achieving and more about remembering.”
