Through his YouTube channel Growing Up in Scientology, Aaron Smith-Levin has become one of the best-known critics of the cult. His mother joined when he was four and he left school at 12 to study. He was a Sea Org member for a decade before he withdrew and began to speak out. A fascinating interview. Jon demolishes fundamental Hubbard teachings about the eight dynamics and the ARC triangle. Aaron's channel Liability formula – when a Scientologist is in any sort of “ethical” trouble (“crimes” can range from adultery to self-pleasure to getting the “wrong” reading on an e-meter), they have to do the “Liability Formula,” one step of which is to “deliver an effective blow to the enemies of Scientology”, meaning they are encouraged to harass any critics in any way they can, regardless of local laws or simple decency. Tec/Sec ASHO: Technical Secretary - this is the person in charge of all counseling at the Org. ASHO, or American Saint Hill Organization, is the "Saint Hill-sized" Org in Los Angeles. RPF = Rehabilitation Project Force:: Members of the Sea Org, Scientology's fervent core group, have signed a billion-year loyalty contract, are paid next to nothing, live in crowded berthing, work a six ½ -day week and are fed on a poor diet. How can it be made worse to punish them? By being assigned to the Rehabilitation Project Force, where they are stripped of their rank, forced to sleep in “pigs' berthing”, assigned to the meanest of manual labor, fed on the table scraps of the “regular” Sea Org, made to wear black, not allowed to speak unless spoken to, and made to run rather than walk everywhere. In addition, they are subjected to hours of auditing to find out the “crimes” that they must have committed to have been such a “degraded being.” TR8 - Training Routine eight involves understanding how to place "Intention" in any object, or, in the case of the routine, an ashtray. You might recognize Masterson from his role on That 70s Show. He's also a prominent member of the Church of Scientology. The civil case brought against Masterson also alleges acts by the Church of Scientology in retaliation against them for making their accusations, so there's much to cover! Aaron is a former member of the Church of Scientology, and his channel is dedicated to talking about what it's like growing up in it. He's been covering the Masterson cases closely in addition to other litigation involving prominent members of the Church of Scientology. This should be a very interesting discussion. Come join us! CONTEXT: Danny Masterson is an American actor and prominent member of the Church of Scientology. In February 2017, three women filed SA allegations against Masterson. This prompted the Los Angeles County Police Department (LAPD) to investigate. Within a year, Masterson was fired from his role in The Ranch and let go as a client from United Talent Agency. On August 22, 2019, four plaintiffs filed a civil lawsuit against Masterson and Scientology alleging various claims of stalking and harassment in retaliation for making the SA allegations. At the time of this live stream, that case is in front of the Supreme Court of the United States to determine whether the case can go to arbitration, a form of alternative dispute resolution. On June 17, 2020, Masterson was charged with three counts of r**e by force or fear. This podcast is about the often arbitrary ways in which the Church of Scientology works in real life as opposed to its PR. For example, after spending $50,000, or more, to reach the State of Clear, the new Clear is given a secret letter from L. Ron Hubbard telling them that they are in danger and get onto the OT levels as fast as possible or else! But how can this be if a Clear no longer has his or her Reactive Mind? A Clear is supposed to be at "Cause Over Life" and able to handle anything. However, they are told they in some kind of danger and won't discover why until they do OT III Jeffrey Augustine asks Aaron why it can take up to 20 years to move from Clear to OT in Scientology. This is a great question. Aaron explains why this happens to former Sea Org members who are treated like pariahs and lepers. Aaron discusses how David Miscavige used the Golden Age of Tech I and II in an ideological manner to purge older Scientologists who were loyal to Hubbard and not Miscavige. Aaron also offers fascinating insights into young 2nd generation Scientologists who attested that they were past life clears as early as 12 years of age. Aaron's insights into this and the consequences it caused inside of Scientology are extremely fascinating.

When Aaron and his twin brother were 4, their mom joined Scientology. The boys grew up with the organization as a main focus in their lives. Their formal education ended after Aaron finished the seventh grade. He then worked full time for Scientology as a staff member from age 12 to 26. But soon came a wave of family rifts, including a great tragedy that severed him from someone he loved. Aaron left Scientology in 2014 and appeared on the first season of A&E's "Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath." While he has a happy life, job and family, the fall out from their time in Scientology continues to undermine relationships for him, his wife, children and even his dog He's now the vice president of the The Aftermath Foundation, a nonprofit that helps people suffering from "disconnection" and "fair game" as they leave the group. In Part 2, Aaron Smith-Levin continue his fascinating and wide ranging excursion into the world of Scientology from the eyes of a Sea Org member. Aaron opens by describing how he realized that the highly dysfunctional operating conditions of the six Los Angeles Orgs are a reflection of the same dysfunctional conditions at Int Base. Aaron then shockingly describes how Flag “handled” the medical emergency that befell a long term Scientologist who was routing into Flag.
