If you want to validate an idea, the conventional wisdom is to build an MVP. But even an MVP takes time to build. What if you could validate not only your idea but your entire funnel, without writing a single line of code? That's what Moe did. He built a landing page, found ways to advertise and generate traffic, and went so far as to convert traffic to paying members- before having any product to sell! (Of course, he immediately refunded those early customers and added them to a waiting list.)If you have an idea and want to know if there is real demand - this is the episode for you.

A special date requires a special podcast episode with a very special guest - so we got you the creator of the original "Football Manager" series and pioneer of sports simulation games, Kevin Toms! Get to know one of the most iconic British game developers of all-time in this interview - how he came up with the first Football Manager game, his meteoric success and how he is still making new games 40 years later! -||- Kevin Toms is a software architect and video game developer from the UK. His first game, Football Manager, was released in 1982, achieving unparalleled success in a time where home computers were still a rarity in most European and British homes. The game effectively created the football management genre and paved the way for other popular franchises such as Championship Manager (now called "Football Manager"), Premier Manager and Total Club Manager / FIFA Manager. Toms continued to develop games throughout the 80's under his label Addictive Games. Most recently, he has released an adaptation of his first game called "Kevin Toms' Football Star Manager", available on iOS, Android, Windows 10, MacOS and Kindle Fire. 40 years after the release of the first Football Manager, Toms is now releasing a new installment in the series, "Football New Manager", which is planned to come out in 2022. As for our boy Dani, he's a content marketing freelancer based in Portugal. He came to know Kevin Toms in 2020 through a marketing apprenticeship on Acadium and is currently working with him on designing graphics and promotional content for the Football Manager series' 40-year anniversary. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/broklahomies/support

LifeBlood: We talked about the power of habits, the power of entrepreneurship, the value of being a life-long learner, and how to think differently about legacy institutions.  We discussed the mental models, what they are, how to use them and why they're of so much value.  Why it's important to study the great thinkers that have come before us and how to pass that wisdom onto the next generation.   We talked about why it's important to be constantly learning as well as leaving time for reflection, thinking and journaling.   We discussed why our education system is flawed in so many ways, what it does deliver on and how to find that in much more cost effective ways, how there are also flaws in how we train people and get them the skills they need to succeed and how he's working to change that.  We talked about trading time for knowledge and how it works when there's a fair exchange of value and how to scale it with Moe Abbas, CoFounder and CEO of Acadium, an organization enabling anyone with an internet connection to launch a career in digital marketing at no cost.   Listen to learn how to think about and develop positive and impactful habits in your life so you can get the enjoyment and success you're looking for! “The most valuable skill that I've ever picked up is the ability to learn.” Moe Abbas is the Co-Founder and CEO of Acadium, a revolutionary company that enables just about anybody to launch a career in digital marketing - for free. Acadium has raised $1M from top angel investors like the ex-CEO of Expedia, and it has launched more careers in digital marketing than any other learning platform (which is saying something, let me tell y'all). Questions we discussed: Why is having some understanding in sales and buyer behavior useful for marketers? How did he come up with the idea for Acadium? How does someone launch a career as a freelancer or independent digital marketer? How can a marketer identify their strengths? What are the most in-demand skills marketers should know in 2022? What is the main difference between a digital marketer and a growth marketer? Where is the best place for marketers to learn more about unit economics? What are some of the challenges in marketing an EdTech business? There mission is to accelerate economic mobility by making access to a new career accessible to anyone with an internet connection. The reason he is doing this, well he has been on a bit of a journey. As he says "My family came to Canada as refugees when I was 3 where we were graciously accepted and supported. We grew up impoverished financially but rich with morals and love. I remember going door to door at 10 years old selling services and products to help my parents. I've only ever been an entrepreneur, building and learning. At nineteen years old, I founded my first two companies which I later sold.   How The Dots Joined Up For Moe At 21 I founded Ottawa General Contractors with a few childhood friends. In 5 years, I led the group from a basement office into Canada's leading residential design build company with 20+ million in sales and design centers across the country. At 26 years I won the NKBA 30 under 30 award and I was the youngest recipient ever of the OBJ 40 Under 40 Award. I have also won the Immigrant Entrepreneur award from the City of Ottawa and many others. In my late 20's I decided to become an entrepreneur in tech because I believed technology could provide the most leverage in creating a positive impact. After a few failed starts, I co-founded Acadium, the number 1 place in the world to launch a career in digital marketing. So what is it that truly lights him up in the entrepreneurial world, as for many the constant movement and grind wears them out? And of course once the "Big Idea" hit, and he could see the birth of investing, how hard was it to get it off the ground? Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to Join Up Dots with the one and only Moe Abbas

#40 – As a teenager, Moe Abbas was a vastly different person than he is today. Unmotivated by school, it took getting beat up by some pot dealers at 16 for Moe to make the decision to improve his life. The change wasn't immediate, but as he began to focus on improving his physical health, his education, and his relationships, opportunities began to present themselves to himThe first opportunity was as an Assistant Phone Line Repair Technician, which allowed him to leave his hometown of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to work in Kamloops, British Columbia, and then Miami, Florida. Upon returning home, at the suggestion of his brother, Moe began working at a landscaping company where he was able to make a good wage. It didn't take long for Moe to realize he didn't like taking orders from someone else so he quit to found his own landscaping company. After two seasons of success, Moe decided to move on from landscaping and sold his business. A friend approached him with a commercial construction opportunity and despite no experience in the field, Moe jumped in feet first and took on a $500,000 renovation project himself. As he gained skills and experience, he was able to grow his business significantly until it spanned 4 offices across Canada.Despite all that success, Moe was not totally satisfied. He had conquered construction but it wasn't' a career he had chosen; he sort of just fell into it. As he began to wonder what he should do next, he focused on the legacy he wanted to leave behind and his mind wandered to a new area of interest: technology. After a false start with his first tech start-up, Moe and his business partner pivoted to create Acadium, a platform that connects those looking for work experience in marketing with mentors who will train them. With Acadium still on the rise, Moe is 100% committed to its success and believes he can impact the financial mobility of countless people who don't have access to other forms of education.Find Acadium and Moe at the following locationsWebsite: acadium.comSocial Media: @acadiumFind Moe: @realmoeabbas______________________To support Career Crossroads, click hereTo leave Career Crossroads a review, click hereYou can find Career Crossroads at careercrossroadspodcast.com or follow us on social mediaInstagram: @career_crossroadsLinkedIn: Career Crossroads PodcastFacebook: Career Crossroads PodcastTwitter: @jcollatonTikTok: @jonathancollaton___________________You can find Career Crossroads at careercrossroads.ca or follow us on social media: Instagram: @career_crossroadsLinkedIn: Career Crossroads PodcastFacebook: Career Crossroads PodcastTikTok: @jonathancollaton

Moe Abbas is the CEO and co-founder of Acadium, a remote apprenticeship marketplace for digital jobs. They help candidates get training, networking and hiring opportunities, for free. These include roles in social media, content writing, graphic design and more. From Moe My family came to Canada as refugees when I was 3 where we were graciously accepted and supported. We grew up impoverished financially but rich with morals and love. I remember going door to door at 10 years old selling services and products to help my parents. I've only ever been an entrepreneur, building and learning. At nineteen years old, I founded my first two companies which I later sold. At 21 I founded Ottawa General Contractors with a few childhood friends. Top 3 Takeaways From Moe 1. If you have a business idea, you have to first prove there are people willing to buy your product or service. Once you have proved that, then start to build out the idea. 2. The idea of an apprenticeship is still a magical thing. 3. Your mind is like a heat-seeking missile. You want to ensure your attention is on the right things.
