The kitchen rEvolution is here…But is it more evolution or revolution. Are designers developing contemporary kitchens based solely on new ideas or looking to the past for inspiration? Is it a wholesale revolution or a patchwork of ideas creating a whole new set of ideas and opportunities?. How is the evolving nature of kitchen design changing the way we think about the heart of the home? How are changing technologies and desired functionality reshaping the modality of kitchen use and design. We explore how new opportunities in appliances and technology have evolved the programming of a kitchen suite. How sous vide, various mode appliances, Wi-Fi enabled appliances, water saving faucets and features combined with revised floor planning have forever altered these spaces making the kitchen, once again the place where everything happens and from which life takes shape. Explore the rapidly changing design space and learn how to craft that perfect environment on a budget through strategic choices, waste reduction, strategic customization and an understanding for how the industry is changing. Stay ahead of the curve and thrive. On our most recent From the Tap podcast, we spoke to Jason McGraw, who is the KBIS show director. We took an in-depth look at all exciting things the 2025 show – which takes place from Feb. 25-27, 2025, has to offer.
Whether you are a new designer or seasoned, there is something to learn from today's conversation with my guest, Rebecca West! Today, we are going to dig into the marketing messages that we are projecting not only to our clients but to our industry partners. And yes, there are lots of side conversations that are really valuable for you to hear in this episode as well! Two decades as CEO of Seriously Happy Homes turned Rebecca West into the go-to business coach for residential interior designers who create happy homes for regular people (rather than the wealthy 1%). In 2023 she closed her business and moved to Paris, France. Now she's here to help you master your marketing message and establish professional practices that'll keep your clients - and your accountant - Seriously Happy. You may know Rebecca from the many webinars she's done with the NKBA and IDS. She's also been a regular TV guest on New Day Northwest, served as a judge for Best in Show at KBIS, and is on the board of Heritage Design School. In addition to 1-1 business coaching, Rebecca offers a signature course called “Nail Your Niche” that lays the foundation for becoming the only designer your clients will call. She's also working on her next book about the “DECIDE” method, a process that helps clients make quick, confident design decisions and keeps our projects on track. But Rebecca's not all business—she can't resist a costume party or a cat video, loves sipping whisky and eating stinky French cheese, and dances tango with her hubby. Grab Rebecca's free Nail Your Niche starter kit PLUS direct feedback from me on their niche at https://seriouslyhappy.ck.page/aec00a8bb8 Find out more about Rebecca and follow her Parisian adventures on Instagram at @beseriouslyhappy Check out her podcast, "Stuff Interior Designers Need to Know.” Find the full shownotes at: https://devignierdesign.com/rebecca-west

That's what Bill Darcy, Global President and CEO of the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA), thinks about every day. This perspective provides Bill with a look under the hood of this sector, and he shares what he sees on this episode of The New Home Insights podcast. Today With Fawn Chang: Today on Window Treatments for Profit, I am joined by Fawn Chang, a behavioral interior designer, color expert and industry insider. She is sharing how our environments impact our well-being, how window treatments play a crucial role, and how we can position ourselves as consultants for healthier living spaces. Fawn has inspired audiences around the world — teaching how the brain and body interact with our surroundings, and today she is bringing insight on how to create spaces that don't just look beautiful, but actually enhance our health, wealth, and happiness…and how to sell them too. Pick It Apart [2:27] Fawn introduces ‘wellness real estate' and how wellness window treatments can be incorporated. [13:29] Fawn and LuAnn discuss biophilia, its positive impacts in an environment, and how window treatment professionals can capitalize on this. [19:49] LuAnn asks Fawn how to counsel consumers on circadian rhythms and the ideal room darkening window treatments. [24:31] Fawn explains how our bodies and subconscious minds are always reading and reacting to our environments, and the implications of the low-level stress they can cause. [31:02] Fawn and LuAnn discuss body language and best practices when it comes to body language and sales. [50:59] LuAnn reiterates the tools she and Fawn discussed, and shares how these can make you — the window treatment professional — more valuable to interior designers and worth a higher rate. LuAnn and Fawn Chang's Ah-Ha Moments “The outside is always moving in a fashion that is more random than what we see on the our screens, right? That calms the body that puts us into our rest, restore, digest, create, and play mode. We have access to higher order thinking in our brain. We have access to the healing aspects of our body, and then…as long as it's tracking the sunlight, our body's rhythms can train to where they're meant to be.” - Fawn Chang “[In interior design] biophilia feels very normal now, but I have never ever thought about how window treatment people should be capitalizing and leveraging it.” - LuAnn Nigara “Our body and unconscious mind is reading the environment about eight-and-a-half seconds before our thinking mind is aware…Your unconscious reads it, evaluates it, qualifies it.” - Fawn Chang “Embracing Biophilia design and wellness design and having it as another tool in our toolbox as window treatment professionals — we're going to be more important to interior designers. And…consumers will pay easily up to 20% more for products when wellness design is important to them…when it matters to that person, they will pay more.” - LuAnn Nigara “We're not trying to manipulate somebody, we're actually trying to create a connection. That's the whole basis of of sales, and all of this — talking about the neuroscience of having someone feel comfortable in their own house so that you can get to the next level of the sales conversation with them. It's looking for a genuine beginning of a relationship.” - LuAnn Nigara More About Fawn Chang With over 2500 presentations delivered to audiences internationally, Fawn inspires and shifts perceptions that change lives. She has a remarkable ability to allow her audience to see how the brain/body work and how to make simple changes for better business, better health, wealth, longevity and more profit. Fawn's passion is people and she knows that life was NEVER meant to be a struggle. Using neuroscience, she shows how the human spirit in each of us is confounded by what is in our environment, which speaks to the unconscious mind creating our behavior. Our true nature begs to be brought forth but is locked within our environments. Fawn delivers easily digestible, practical and easy-to-implement actionable tips and tools, backed by modern science, ready for immediate application enjoyable, approachable and understandable all with delightful humor. Fawn Chang is a Keynote Speaker, International Interior Designer, Color Marketing and Trending Expert and a Feng Shui Expert. A former Medical Practice Administrator and teacher, Fawn's presentations bring together neurophysiology and design with conversational style, humor and actionable takeaways. Significantly, she was the designer on a multi-state study to determine the influence of color on students' engagement with incredible results, moving students and teachers from 50% engagement to 100% engagement just with the use and designed placement of wall color. “Chefs don't like it. It's not gourmet way to cook. … I won't cook on gas any more. And in my private chef life, I literally bring my induction hub to my fancy clients' kitchen if they don't already have induction because it cooks better, faster and more accurate.” Chef Rachelle Boucher (a.k.a. “The Appliance Whisperer”) of Kitchens to Life is a celebrated national cooking appliance trainer, private chef, influencer and event expert with over twenty years of experience creating custom training programs, activities and hands-on workshops for appliance brands, architects, designers, developers and end users to help them choose, use and enjoy modern cooking appliances and technology. After an adventurous career as a top private chef for celebrities such as filmmaker George Lucas, rock band Metallica, legendary sports celebrities and many other luminaries, Rachelle was recruited into the home appliance industry. She quickly became a celebrated corporate chef, trainer, and consultant with Monark Home, Sub-Zero & Wolf, Miele U.S.A. and many others working to showcase cooking technology such as convection, induction, speed cooking, steam cooking and more. This experience grew into a passion for electric cooking appliances which inspired her to become a leading advocate for electric kitchens and home electrification. Chef Rachelle has exceptional local, national, and international relationships with cooking appliance manufacturers, vendors, dealers, architects, designers, builders, influencers and industry groups including ASID, AIA, NKBA, NARI and experts in related fields. Chef Rachelle Boucher with KitchenToLife.com , and Chef Andrew Forlines with ChefAF.com speak to with me about one of the biggest roadblocks to the electrification of a home. Getting ride of the gas cook top. Chef Rachelle Boucher KitchenToLife.com In 2018, when the city of Berkeley, CA announced the first all-electric building codes, I immediately knew that this was a huge moment for the planet, for the appliance industry and, frankly, for me. As a self-described "induction cooking and electric kitchens super-fan" and chef, I knew that I could make a big difference. It was an "A-ha moment". My partner Robert Roth and I started "Kitchens to Life" with the mission to: ELEVATE the electric kitchens conversation, ENGAGE stakeholders with today's inspiring cooking options and FACILITATE the adoption of kitchen electrification for performance, people and planet. Chef Andrew Forlines ChefAF.com I'm Chef Andrew Forlines and I offer insights on the newest technology available to the residential home cook. As a chef, I have spent my career at the nexus of food science, fine dining, appliance technology, refined customer service, and culinary education. For the last several years, I have worked in the residential appliance retail industry as a chef presenter, retail sales, and kitchen design trainer focused on advanced technology in the modern home kitchen. I am certified by both the NKBA and IDCEC to give accredited Continuing Education Unit presentations in person or via webinar.
Moe Abbas is the CEO and co-founder of Acadium, a remote apprenticeship marketplace for digital jobs. They help candidates get training, networking and hiring opportunities, for free. These include roles in social media, content writing, graphic design and more. From Moe My family came to Canada as refugees when I was 3 where we were graciously accepted and supported. We grew up impoverished financially but rich with morals and love. I remember going door to door at 10 years old selling services and products to help my parents. I've only ever been an entrepreneur, building and learning. At nineteen years old, I founded my first two companies which I later sold. At 21 I founded Ottawa General Contractors with a few childhood friends. In 5 years, I led the group from a basement office into Canada's leading residential design build company with 20+ million in sales and design centers across the country. At 26 years I won the NKBA 30 under 30 award and I was the youngest recipient ever of the OBJ 40 Under 40 Award. I have also won the Immigrant Entrepreneur award from the City of Ottawa and many others. Top 3 Takeaways From Moe 1. If you have a business idea, you have to first prove there are people willing to buy your product or service. Once you have proved that, then start to build out the idea. 2. The idea of an apprenticeship is still a magical thing. 3. Your mind is like a heat-seeking missile. You want to ensure your attention is on the right things.
