Necrotic Nick from the Thralls of Metal on YouTube is back as we dive into the dystopian industrial metal world of Ministry on their groundbreaking album Psalm 69. We discuss Al Jourgenson, his ability to cheat death for over 60 years, and the odd and chaotic backstory to Psalm 69 (which includes a story about William S. Burroughs and some annoying raccoons). Aaron Rossi who drummed for Ministry, Prong, Rob Zombie, John 5 and many others passed away in January 2025. In his rememberance we replay his appearance in The Dark Mark Show in 2014 with then Ministry guitarist Sin Quirin… Sin Quirin and Aaron Rossi of the band Ministry joined Mark and Josi to talk music and enjoy some peanut butter cups and juggling. Sin talked about recording the latest "final" Ministry album From Beer to Eternity, how hearing Ministry on cassette tape changed his approach to music, the pitfalls of playing guitar in front of a fence, referred to Mark's Ministry hockey jersey as a "onesie", reminisced about being in Society 1 with a few future Ministry members and talked about his new band Supermanic and teaching guitar at the Grammy museum. Aaron talked about exceeding Al Jourgensen's drum expectations at his first rehearsals as he played the parts that 2 drummers usually play, how John 5 practices guitar in the bathroom, confirmed there is no beef between Rob Zombie and Al Jourgenson, how Al reacted to getting a bottle of Marilyn Manson's absinthe as a gift, playing in his new Brazilian band Black Oil fronted by Tony Campos of Static X and explained how to attain that uniquely powerful Ministry drum sound.
Send us a message, so we know what you're thinking! In case you hadn't noticed, we love a good cover version! This episode, we're looking at covers - staples, covers from strange sources, and some songs that have had a LOT of covers, including a bunch of covers of Bowie's “Heroes”. Our Album You Must Hear before You Die is “Is This It?” by The Strokes. This punk/Britpop-influenced album got rave reviews on release in 2001 from Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, and New Musical Express. We're not convinced. In Knockin' on Heaven's Door, we mourn the loss of Wayne Osmond (of the Osmond Brothers), Chad Morgan, the Aussie country great, and Peter Yarrow, of Peter, Paul and Mary. We hope they get to sing a rousing chorus of “Puff the Magic Dragon together. As usual, there's heaps of fun. Enjoy!! Jesse and Chelle have had enough of the other's shenanigins. This episode is jam packed with insults, subtle jabs, and (surpisingly) some insightful commentary. Join them as Chelle shares a tune by Kim Petras entitled I Don't Want It At All; a sugary bubble-gum pop song about a girl who just wants someone to buy her all the things. Jesse goes in a complete 180 and shares a tune from the crazed drug-addled mind of Al Jourgenson with Ministry's Thieves. It's a crazy nightmare-fueled romp through noisy industrial soundscapes that will leave you thoroughly amped up and ready to break some shit. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Where can you go to hear stories about your favorite bands and musicians — stories that you've likely never heard before? Autobiographies (aka memoirs) are the prime source for in-depth stories on the lives and careers of such legendary musicians as Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Sammy Hagar, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Scott Ian and many, many others. On this episode of Into the Void, Dave Manack and JayMan discuss their favorite autobios of all time, and some of the best stories they've read along the way. Plus, don't miss the exclusive interview with veteran journalist and author Jon Wiederhorn, who co-wrote books with Scott Ian and Al Jourgenson. His newest book, "Raising Hell: Backstage Tales from the Lives of Metal Legends" is out now, and Jon discusses this book and some great stories involving the heavy music legends he's worked with over the years.

It's an accidentally Swedish-heavy episode of WHaT this week, as the Senior Staff discuss "Buried Again" by Colony 5 and "III" by Kite. We're kicking from post-futurepop to synthpop this week, along with some discussion of Odonis Odonis' new festival venture in Toronto, and Al Jourgenson's dalliances with David Hasselhoff. Bork bork bork!
Ministry has got a new album coming out as soon as March, and it's called AmeriKKKant! This promises some of Sin's best guitar work yet. This is what he stated, that he felt quite proud of his work on previous albums and had definitely built up to an excellent sound on the new record. DJ Swamp has added some interesting instruments to it, and Al Jourgenson is sounding absolutely cool. A new tour for 2018 is in the workd so look for these awesome players too; John Bechdel, Sin Quirin, Cesar Soto, Tony Campos, Derek Abrams join Al Jourgenson for some of the best music ever from the band. Guess what Sin Quirin has in store, besides showing off his amazing signature model Schecter instruments which are for sale online; he's got a new side project. A new band called 3 Headed Snake is in the making and the vocalist is super his name is Johnny Ray.
Some good beer-on-radio gearhead talk for you… The Garage Hour goons get together with our other favorite brewery in the East County's Circle of Hops to sip and chat rock, bikes and beers. We usually record at Helix Brewing Co. in La Mesa, but they were ultra-busy with a new wave of beers, so Hostus Maximus Justin Fort, Chef Jeff and the lovely Karen dropped in at Burning Beard Brewing in El Cajon to hang out with 1/2 of the outfit's dynamic duo, Mike Maass. This episode is heavy on the music and the beer to go with it, and we have good debates about ingredients, beer styles, concerts in SoCal, bands that matter, and single versus double-bass. Beard also announces their pairing of a tap takeover at the Pizza Port in Solana Beach with a Sword show at the Belly (Corporate) Up on July 18. We also chase details of the secret tracks on the epic Beard jukebox, Owner #2's (Jeff) pursuit of Liberace, Menudo and New Kids on the Block, and whether Al Jourgenson and Ministry opened for Bing Crosby or Soundgarden first. Then, it's all about side effects: tapeworms, loss of etiquette and projectile leprosy.

Thanks to a listener suggestion, we're finally getting a chance to revisit Ministry, and their 1992 release Psalm 69.
