OBS tried to stop us. A hurricane tried to stop us. My crippling ADD tried to stop us but we can't be stopped. We're back and we're covering obscure mid-2010s indie pop album In The Cards by Robert Delong. While still falling into some of the tropes of the EDM-tinged indie pop of it's time, In The Cards has enough personality and big enough hooks to stand above most of the artists in that crowd. Too bad it never quite reached the general public. In the news corner this week it's all about bands disrespecting the memories of their deceased lead singers. First we finally cover the storm of controversy around Emily Armstrong, the new vocalist of Linkin Park. Then we cover Power Trip going on tour opening for a certain band that Riley Gale would definitely NOT be happy with. This week we're discussing every album by Power Trip. Formed in Dallas, TX, Power Trip was part of the wave of retro thrash metal in the mid to late 00s. However, they distinguished themselves through their raw and gritter approach when compared to some of their peers. So much so that they were nominated for a Grammy for the song “Executioner's Tax (Swing of the Axe).” Their future, at the moment, is a bit uncertain after the sudden death of vocalist Riley Gale in 2020.Closing track: “Crucifixation” from Nightmare Logic (2017)Patreonhttps://www.patreon.com/everyalbumeverMerchhttps://pandermonkey.creator-spring.com/Mike's EP:Pander Monkey on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple,Instagram:Mike @pandermonkeyAlex @everyalbumalexHistory Tom's stuff:New album on BandcampDebut album on Bandcamp, Spotify, AppleSubstackWebsiteMike & Alex's Picks:Nightmare Logic (2017) — Best Album, Personal FavoriteOpening Fire: 2008-2017 (2018) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlbums we discussed this episode…Opening Fire: 2008-2014 (2018)Manifest Decimation (2013)Nightmare Logic (2017)

Sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnhttps://www.creepingdeath.net/Introducing their latest single, "The Common Breed," Texas-based death metal practitioners CREEPING DEATH are ready to rock the metal scene. Accompanied by a captivating music video, this track is part of their highly anticipated Boundless Domain LP, slated for release on June 16th via MNRK Heavy.Produced by Adam Dutkiewicz, guitarist of Killswitch Engage and renowned for his work with bands like As I Lay Dying, The Acacia Strain, and Underoath, Boundless Domain is a sophomore album that exudes immense power, depth, and intensity. From start to finish, it delivers a relentless onslaught of heavy riffs and is guaranteed to captivate metal fans. In the wake of the unfortunate passing of local heroes Riley Gale of Power Trip and Wade Allison of Iron Age, the band members—guitarist Trey Pemberton, singer Reese Alavi, bassist Eric "Rico" Mejia, drummer Lincoln Mullins, and guitarist A.J. Ross, III—found inspiration in revisiting their favorite metallic hardcore influences. Boundless Domain features future death metal classics such as the crushingly heavy and fast-paced "Intestinal Wrap," featuring George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher of Cannibal Corpse. Another standout track, "Vitrified Earth," showcases CREEPING DEATH's impressive songwriting skills, with Alavi's vocal delivery demonstrating impeccable cadence and phrasing, all while maintaining a brutal edge. Towards the end of the album, listeners can expect a touch of atmospheric elements, with mesmerizing guitar effects, harmonies, and intricate time signatures.Speaking about their latest single, "The Common Breed," Pemberton shares, "This music video perfectly captures the energy of a CREEPING DEATH live show. It was a blast to make, and we are grateful to all our friends and family who came out and went wild for us." After a successful European/UK tour supporting Revocation and Goatwhore earlier this year, followed by a recent North American run supporting Carcass, Municipal Waste, and Sacred Reich, CREEPING DEATH is ready to hit the road again with the Boundless Domain Summer 2023 tour. This headlining tour will consist of two parts and will feature support from two different groups. Part 1 kicks off on June 16th in San Antonio, Texas, coinciding with the release of their new LP, and will cover the Western half of the United States, concluding on July 1st in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Joining CREEPING DEATH for Part 1 will be Year Of The Knife, Fleshrot, and Saintpeeler. After a brief break, the band will embark on Part 2 of the Boundless Domain Summer 2023 tour on July 10th in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This leg of the tour will see CREEPING DEATH conquering the Eastern half of the country until July 21st, concluding in Fort Worth, Texas. Enforced will join them on select dates during Part 2, along with Upon Stone and Saintpeeler. Tickets for the tour are now available for purchase on creepingdeath.net. Check out the list of confirmed tour dates below and make sure to catch CREEPING DEATH's electrifying performances. In the realm of heavy metal, there exists a subgenre that pushes the boundaries of intensity, aggression, and sheer brutality. It is a sonic onslaught that evokes a visceral reaction, both captivating and polarizing listeners. This genre is none other than Death Metal.Emerging in the early 1980s, death metal carved its own path in the metal landscape, distinct from its predecessor, thrash metal. While thrash focused on speed and technicality, death metal delved into darker territories, exploring themes of death, horror, gore, and existential dread. It was a musical rebellion, a cathartic release This episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

The Edge of Existence (eOne) is Texas based Creeping Death's third EP, but follows from their bludgeoning 2019 full length Wretched illusions. Death metal had no idea what it was in for when this band formed and called it its own. Their sound is immediately violent yet has a groovy, melodic edge to it that makes for fast kinship amongst fans of metal far beyond just death metal. Reviews came fast and furious for the full length and it seemed the band was an overnight success, rightfully so since said full length was such a hammer to the face of death metal that so many just couldn't get enough of, and us included. Just ahead of the EP's release, our maestro of the mic, Buke, had the chance to cross paths, yet again, with guitarist Trey Pemberton to discuss The Edge of Existence and how it came to be. They also discussed how the pandemic shaped the album and how that allowed them time to really focus on the album and their individual mastery of the puzzle pieces, their upcoming tour and what to expect, Trey's MMA training and how that has helped him in so many ways, the passing of Powertrip's Riley Gale and how hard that hit the band as well as fellow Texans and metal fans in general, and how Trey's Mom shaped his musical history since she was a huge metal fan and an absolute shredder on the drum kit. Plus, what song Trey feels perfectly encapsulates the Creeping Death sound off the new EP. All this and so much more is covered in this amazing chat so dive in and enjoy.9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

Pat McCrory of Turnstile and Angel Du$t came on the podcast to talk about a wide variety of subjects. We kicked things off with Pat talking about growing up close to Baltimore. That leads to a discussion about the Baltimore Orioles where he confesses that his mom is a die-hard fan even though they have been one of the worst teams in baseball of late. Pat also brings up a funny story about when he was offered a security guard position at Urban Outfitters and took the job. There is a bunch of great music talk in this episode. Pat explains how both Turnstile and Angel Du$t toured non-stop before the pandemic starting and how he just wanted a short month or two break to rest up for future shows. Be careful what you wish for! His break, like many other musicians, has turned into a long year. We discuss the wild live experience from his bands and what it will be like when everyone can start touring again. He tells a story about a stretch of acoustic shows he did with Angel Du$t, in which he was extremely nervous about because everyone would know if he messed up. It turned out to be a huge success.  Also, there was an interesting conversation about playing in his hometown of Baltimore and how he always wants to make the next show better than the last. I have always been curious about people's thoughts behind getting music into people's ear while being in a hardcore punk band. Pat talks about that whole process as well. He says the great thing about punk is you have the ability to say whatever you want, play whatever you want, and do whatever you want. We chat about the band not being as active on social media as other groups. Pat explains that they use their platform as something that will add value to society. They always want to put purpose into their post. One particular post from last year came around when Riley Gale passed away. Pat talks about how much Riley meant to him and the band. Riley was like family to him. Some of the other areas we hit is how he started a twitch recently to play video games with his friends. Pat also started doing photography as a hobby and almost always brings his camera on the road. He had the perfect opportunity to shoot in Australia a few years back. We close out the show talking about how he met the members the two bands he's in, always feeling included in Turnstile even though he joined in 2016, and managing his time. We welcome an artist from our very own local area here in Fort Worth, TX, frontman Chad Green of death metal quintet, Frozen Soul. We speak to Chad about how insane the long road to dropping their new record was envisioned, and even though it's the debut album, it feels as if it took 17 years in the making for it to come to the surface. Well worth the wait. Chad dives into his upbringings and influences, including stories about his relationship with the late Riley Gale, another local artist who fronted the band Power Trip. Chad went through many personal and artistic battles, and has taken in the music industry experience first hand to realize that the hard work is just getting started. At the same token, there are many rewarding parts of this entire experience where he realizes can't be found elsewhere. Plenty to discover in this episode about one of the newer heavy hitters that's about to take the metal music world by storm – or rather, a violent and furious blizzard – get it? Episode 55 of The Nine Circles Audio Thing is all about the Album of the Month for September which is Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic by Germany's post metal/progressive metal juggernauts The Ocean which is available now on Metal Blade Records and Pelagic Records. Buke once again captains the episode joined by Vince, Ian, Angela, Hera (Cat), and Jon! The pick this month was a mere suggestion from Corey which grew legs to become an all in team pick. And, it's easy to see why, this is The Ocean's 10th full length and they've yet to do anything less than EPIC. Ian puts his college learning to good use in explaining the history and timeline while Hera dives deep into themes and tie ins to Phan 1. Vince loves the concept but...prog...so, he is mixed on everything except the one track that features a strong black metal backbone. Go figure. Jon, Angela and Buke enjoyed it for what it is, another stellar entry into a major catalog from a truly amazing band. One thing is for sure, this just might be the deepest dive into an album we've done since the beginning of these album of the month picks. Plus, car alarms from possible dinosaurs roaming the streets? All that and a "what else drove our boats" in September along with August since we missed that episode. But, pay close attention to the Steve Von Till section which was slated as the August pick from Josh but work and life didn't cooperate in time for it to flesh out. And, a heartwarming tribute to Power Trip's Riley Gale. At nearly 2-1/2 hours, this episode is chock full of stuff to keep you thinking of history, progressive metal and a whole host of albums to explore. So jump in and get an earful! 9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
