Personally its one of the most iconic Pizza Port Brewing beers, it was a malty introduction to the flavorful world of San Diego Beers.  Now, you don't have have to pop into one of the pubs to grab a pint as it's now in cans, Bacon and Eggs Imperial Stout!  Honestly with the tweaking the team has been doing, this could be the best year EVER to try this beer.

Playing with hops is what Pizza Port does, so when they get the freedom to play with hops they go all out with their seasonal beers.  Vibrant Views is one of their latest seasonals brewed by a notorious San Diego brewer (who will remain unnamed here) that as crafted an absolute masterpiece IPA perfect for an SD Fall.

It's Fresh Hop/Wet Hop Season!  As local breweries are getting same day deliveries of harvest hops it's a wonderful time to be a hop-head!  Offering more depth and complexity then just floral bitterness, these beers offer a more raw taste then pelletized hops.  Slamarak Cold IPA is one of the first of the season to drop and it's named after a North County wave contest where they try and jam as many people as they can on one wave.

It's been a long time since the brewers from Pizza Port dropped in for a beer!  This week we dig into what the San Diego brewing institution that is Pizza Port Brewing has been up to starting with a collaboration beer with our friends from Alpine, McIlhenny Brewing and a crushable, tropical and flora New Zealand Pilsner called Sunrise Valley.

Matt Cross Tap Takeover Episode Matt and I appreciate Jacque and Ryan Fields of Wild Fields Brewhouse because while they make and sell IPAs, they also make and sell so much more than that. Jacque and Ryan brought several beers over for us to taste, and Matt and I enjoyed every one of them. The Pine Mountain Monolith Brown Ale was my favorite — almost all of their beers are named after spots on the Central Coast. We discussed Jacque and Ryan's strong lineage in the beer industry, with Beachwood, Lost Abbey and Pizza Port among the breweries they've worked for. We also talked about how to start liking sour ales, Atascamazing, bottles versus cans, and the Fields's RV named Honey Buns.

Mike Russell is on the board of an organization called Wildlife For Tomorrow. What is it? Rob Hunter asks Mike all about it. In March of 1987 Gina and Vince Marsaglia, a pair of siblings in their 20′s, bought a struggling pizza place in the coastal town of Solana Beach, just north of San Diego. Early on, Vince took advantage of free space in the restaurant's storage area to dabble with home brewing. The hobby took off and at the urging of friends and fans, Vince and Gina decided to go into the brewpub business. Pizza Port offered its first craft-brewed beers to patrons in 1992 and quickly gained a reputation in San Diego's growing craft beer scene.

In this episode, we're cracking open Hotel Zebra by Brouwerij West and Pizza Port Brewing - an 8.2% West Coast Double IPA that is exactly what you would expect from a Pizza Port inspired beer. Bitter, dank and sticky, but with a nice tropical backbone from the bouquet of hops. Definitely a nice break from the IPAs we've been drinking lately, and LOVED the can sticker art on this one.
