Aaron Rossi who drummed for Ministry, Prong, Rob Zombie, John 5 and many others passed away in January 2025. In his rememberance we replay his appearance in The Dark Mark Show in 2014 with then Ministry guitarist Sin Quirin… Sin Quirin and Aaron Rossi of the band Ministry joined Mark and Josi to talk music and enjoy some peanut butter cups and juggling.  Sin talked about recording the latest "final" Ministry album From Beer to Eternity, how hearing Ministry on cassette tape changed his approach to music, the pitfalls of playing guitar in front of a fence, referred to Mark's Ministry hockey jersey as a "onesie", reminisced about being in Society 1 with a few future Ministry members and talked about his new band Supermanic and teaching guitar at the Grammy museum.  Aaron talked about exceeding Al Jourgensen's drum expectations at his first rehearsals as he played the parts that 2 drummers usually play, how John 5 practices guitar in the bathroom, confirmed there is no beef between Rob Zombie and Al Jourgenson, how Al reacted to getting a bottle of Marilyn Manson's absinthe as a gift, playing in his new Brazilian band Black Oil fronted by Tony Campos of Static X and explained how to attain that uniquely powerful Ministry drum sound.

Interview by Kris PetersBurton C Bell is a name synonymous with metal.Fresh off his induction into the prestigious Metal Hall of Fame, Burton continues to solidify his legacy as a trailblazer of industrial metal. Renowned for his groundbreaking role in Fear Factory, the extreme music pioneer, multimedia talent, and iconoclastic provocateur resurrects his legacy and forward-thinking destiny, remade in a career-spanning incarnation as a singular solo artist. Bell's discography includes multiple live and recorded collaborations with Black Sabbath icon Geezer Butler and Journey's Deen Castronovo (as GZR); industrial maverick Al Jourgensen and Ministry; and guest vocal appearances with Pitchshifter, Conflict, Soil, Static-X, Soulfly, and Delain, among others. He's the vocalist of Ascension Of The Watchers and City Of Fire and, of course, the co-creator of Fear Factory and the only musician to appear on every Fear Factory release from 1992 through 2024.And now Bell has set his sights on Australia for his solo project, which has already spawned two singles in Anti - Droid and Technical Exorcism, with two more promised before June. His Australian shows promise to be an unmissable experience, featuring heavy, groovy, dark, and moody tracks, alongside rare live renditions of deep cuts from his vast discography, but to find out just what to expect, HEAVY spent some time with Bell to get down and dirty."I had a great response," he smiled when we asked about how his first two solo singles were received. "Live, the fans love them. They translate well. The band that I have gathered - or should I say curated, because it took me a couple of years to grab these guys together. I've known them for a few years, but finally I got this band together and the music that we play is really translating… a new groove that is translating in songs in a heavy, groovy, dark and moody way. It's amazing. What you hear is going to be heavier live."In the full interview, Burton talks more about what to expect from the shows, what has changed with him and his music since his last visit in 2021, how the shows will be intimate, what songs he will be drawing from in the set list, future music and if the singles released are an indication of what the album will sound like, how he keeps music fresh and exciting for himself, the songwriting process and if it becomes easier or harder over time, being inducted into the Metal Hall Of Fame and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Legendary artist and pioneering music producer Luc Van Acker might have made music history, he doesn't do nostalgia. With a career spanning over four decades, he has instinctively moved between solo projects; bands like Revolting Cocks, Ministry, Front 242, Arbeid Adelt! & many more and offered up cult collabs and genre-bending productions. His fearlessly fun, self-proclaimed 'insane', and experimental M.O. has navigated industry politics and backroom machinations for the longest time, yet he remains ahead of the wave, forever optimistically searching for new sounds.  On this episode, Luc and Dominique retrace his journey—from self-producing his first solo record in his bedroom to in-person straight-talk with William S. Burroughs and birthing industrial music together with Richard 23, Al Jourgensen and Wax Trax! Records.  He shares how experimenting with the first samplers put Belgian producers on the global map and why names like Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails and Slipknot's Joey Jordison cite him as an inspiration. Luc also tells stories of how he got through his darkest days and what led him to his current 'Twin Peaks' -ish happy place. But not before he divulges how he roped himself into his first gig with Shriekback, what 80's Chicago was like and, of course, the inception of Revolting Cocks. Today is the IVAN DEPRUME INTERVIEW EPISODE! WOOOO! Also featuring more retrospective on the 1932 White Zombie film and narratives provided by Rob Zombie, Sean Yseult and Jay Yuenger from old interviews and blogs and books. The fine people at Radish Mattress and I will cover, among other topics: Ivan's upbringing in Brooklyn, his drum heros, and how he fit into the band over the years Rebuilding the engine on the White Zombie van for their early tours The elements of his 1992 drum kit that he still owns and uses in his recent projects How his mother got to America to escape Nazi occupation and death camps in Ukraine and Poland The Boundless Joy album and tour last year His best times in the gym with Rob Zombie His impression of every White Zombie guitarist over the years His view of Sean and Rob's separation and how it led to the splintering of the band's family vibe How he ate on the first European tour after blowing all his per diem money on a bitchin pair of leather pants The scary encounters on the road to places like revolution-wracked Yugoslavia and the Berlin Wall when it was torn down The bogus story Rob made up about why Ivan left White Zombie and the audio of Rob making bullshit up onstage on Phil's first night behind the kit Ivan's views on how to best live life and take care of the people and communities around us My breakdown of Victor Halperin's techniques in the film “White Zombie” and the way the movie made me feel all these years after first seeing it in 1996 An exploration of Jay Yuenger's studio notes on “La Sexorcisto” and “Astro Creep” including the Phaser trick on “Blur the Technicolor” A dip back into Rob Zombie's history starting after his “PeeWee's Playhouse” experience and the indie NYC noise band scene White Zombie was entrenched in at the time. Also his time doing layout and typesetting for little known porno mags A wrap up of Sean Yseult's narrative on her years in the band and the noble modesty she displays by not using it to air any dirty laundry and simply highlight all the fun times and great people she experienced when the band got big. I mean, lots of other people would make an entire book about what it was like in the 80s and 90s if they were involved romantically with Rob Zombie, Dave Wyndorf and Al Jourgensen, right? But instead you get drawings and handwritten sheet music and cool electric basses and homemade costumes and cocktail party themes. And through it all there's plenty of helpful input from our sponsor representative brand officer CEO of Radish Mattress/Bootleg Ayhueasca of Canton, Ohio Inc. Before launching the iconic Texas blues-rock trio ZZ Top, a young Billy F. Gibbons was hustling through the Lone Star State with a band named the Moving Sidewalks. The small-time band had the chance of a lifetime when they opened for legendary rock guitar maestro Jimi Hendrix. Over 50 years later, Gibbons is one of the most recognizable rock musicians in American history. From ZZ Top's early work in creating classic rock radio staples like “La Grange” and “Tush” in the 1970s to becoming a global phenomenon with innovative music videos in the early years of MTV, Gibbons has been the guiding hand behind ZZ Top's evolution from the “Little Ol' Band from Texas” to pop culture behemoth with the 1983 album Eliminator, which has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. As the guitarist and main singer of ZZ Top, Gibbons has gained immense respect among other music luminaries with guest appearances and collaborations with legends like B.B. King, Les Paul, Jeff Beck, John Mayall, and Sammy Hagar before releasing solo albums like The Big Bad Blues (2018), which was named Blues Rock Album of the Year by the Blues Music Awards. He has continued to lead ZZ Top in the aftermath of the death of longtime bandmate Dusty Hill in 2021 and shows no signs of slowing down from bringing his unique brand of Texas blues to the world. Featuring new interviews with Gibbons' collaborators, including producers Terry Manning (Tres Hombres, Eliminator) and Robin Hood Brians (ZZ Top's First Album, Rio Grande Mud) and Ministry's Al Jourgensen and more, Gimme All Your Lovin': The Blues, Boogie, and Beard of ZZ Top's Billy F. Gibbons is a celebration of a true rock and roll original. Throughout the late 80s and early 90s, Ministry were one of the most terrifyingly aggressive industrial acts around. But in 1983 Al Jourgensen introduced himself to the masses - and this week's guest, producer/musician Dave Trumfio (Chicago's Pulsars) - with the decidedly New Wave 'With Sympathy'. This is NOT your grandma's Ministry, unless your grandma is a moody goth kid singing snappy little synth-pop tunes in a faux-British accent. Enjoy! Songs discussed in this episode: Revenge (VJ Rob Edge Mix) - Ministry; Submission Song, Tunnel Song, Suffocation - The Pulsars; Burning Inside, Just Like You, Effigy (I'm Not An) - Ministry; Body Bag - Effigies; Going For Adds - Moving Units; Revenge - Ministry; My Spine Is The Bassline - Shriekback; I Wanted To Tell Her - Ministry; Money Is Not Our God - Killing Joke; Work For Love, Every Day Is Halloween - Ministry; Just Like Honey - The Jesus and Mary Chain; Here We Go, What He Say, Say You're Sorry, I Should Have Known Better, I'm Falling, She's Got A Cause - Ministry; It's Not Right - DEVO; Das Lifeboat - The Pulsars

"The Morrison Project" The London-born guitarist and singer/songwriter Billy Morrison has two main components to his life and for the purposes of this introduction, I'm going to tell you about the musical one. The other one I'll let him tell you about because he'll tell it far better than I can. So: the musical one. After playing in bands like Into A Circle and Stimulator, Morrison was recruited to play bass with The Cult for their opening slot with Aerosmith in the U.S., Japan and Europe. After his stint with The Cult, Morrison formed Camp Freddy with Dave Navarro, Donovan Leitch, Scott Ford and The Cult's Matt Sorum. You'll find the through-line in Morrison's life has a lot to do with The Cult. In 2006 Morrison teamed up with Fuel's Brett Scallions, Ricky Warwick of The Almighty, Slunt's Charles Ruggiero, Korn's Rob Patterson and, you guessed it, The Cult's Billy Duffy for the band Circus Diablo. In 2010 he joined Billy Idol's band and he's been with him ever since, playing stadium shows across the world. Camp Freddy morphed into Royal Machines adding Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray and Josh Freese to the lineup. Morrison's new album is called The Morrison Project and it's got a murderer's row of guests including Al Jourgensen of Ministry, Steve Stevens, Darryl DMC McDaniels of Run DMC, Ozzy Osbourne and Corey Taylor of Slipknot, among others. The album is a big crunchy blast of hard rock bliss with careening guitar riffs and hooks galore. It's not only one of the most satisfying and energizing albums of the year, it's landed Morrison his first number one. Well-deserved. Morrison has acted in movies, become a notable art collector and artist and he co-hosts a show with Ozzy on Sirius. Busy fellow. Billy is the real deal and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. www.billymorrison.com (http://www.billymorrison.com) www.bombshellradio.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.alexgreenbooks.com Twitter: @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

They also discuss the struggle of separating the artist from the art, using Ariana Grande as an example. Is it possible to love her music but not care about her personal life? Ariana Grande - Eternal Sunshine: We debate the merits of this new album, including the speculation that it's a "divorce album" and whether you can enjoy the music without following the drama. Green Day - Saviors: Did this album take some time to grow on you, or were you hooked from the start? We discuss the band's return to form and their exploration of bisexuality on the track "Bobby Sox." Honeymoon Suite - Alive: We celebrate the return of this Canadian band and their latest album. Should you stream it or buy the CD for the full experience? The dreamy prog rock brilliance of The Pineapple Thief's It Leads to This is also in the spotlight. This grower of an album might take some time, but the hypnotic and aggressive riffs of "The Frost" and other songs are worth repeated listens. This record might end up on Ted's Best of 2024. Ministry - hopiumforthemasses: This album is a wild ride! We discuss the challenges of listening to Ministry's music at high volume and Al Jourgensen's message about the dangers of a "Trump planet." RAYE - My 21st Century Blues: This independent success story is one to cheer for. We discuss how RAYE bought back her masters and released a chart-topping album. The industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails is the creation of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Trent Reznor.  While living in Cleveland in 1987, Reznor worked as an assistant engineer and janitor at Right Track Studios.  He had free access to the studio between bookings, and took inspiration from Prince to play all instruments himself to produce his material.  The name Nine Inch Nails comes from a quote by Al Jourgensen, lead singer of the metal band Ministry - "Listening to Ministry is like having a nine inch nail hammered into your head like a hole."  The debut studio album entitled Pretty Hate Machine was released by TVT Records in October 1989.  It has an industrial synth feel, with dark lyrics driven by angst, despair, and betrayal.  Unlike much of the industrial rock of the time, songs on Pretty Hate Machine feature catchy riffs and hooks, and the song structure employs a traditional verse and chorus approach rather than continually repeating electronics.  The result would prove to be both a commercial and critical success, reaching number 75 on the US album charts.Although Reznor produced and performed all the instrumentation on the album, he soon found himself in need of a touring band, particularly when he was brought in to open for Guns N' Roses on their European Tour.  Many musicians have been brought into the Nine Inch Nails over the years, but Reznor remained the only permanent member until his frequent collaborator, Atticus Ross, was brought in as a member in 2016.Lynch brings us this pioneering industrial rock album for this week's podcast. Head Like a HoleThe opening track to the album was the second and most commercially successful single, reaching number 28 on the US Alternative Airplay charts.   It also took inspiration from the quote from Al Jourgensen of Ministry.  The song is about the control that money has over people and the pain and suffering associated with it.  Terrible LieThis song reflects the anger and despair of a person going through a bad time in their life and blaming it on God.  "(Hey god) why are you doing this to me?  Am I not living up to what I'm supposed to be?  Why am I seething with this animosity?  (Hey god) I think you owe me a great big apology."SinWhen we give in to our darker impulses, perhaps driven by desire or betrayal, we can find ourselves in a spiral of self-destruction and sabotage.  The song is about the pain and destructiveness that can lurk below the surface.Down In ItThis is the debut single from the album.  During the making of the video, a camera attached to a weather balloon became detached and flew 200 miles away.  When found in a farmer's field the FBI was called in to investigate what appeared to be a gang or cult slaying of Reznor. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Main theme from the motion picture "Christmas Vacation 3" The success of "Christmas Vacation" inspired a number of sequels. STAFF PICKS:Higher Ground by the Red Hot Chili PeppersRob's staff pick is  a cover of a song Stevie Wonder originally released in 1973.  While the original went to number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, the energetic remake by the Red Hot Chili Peppers also achieved commercial success, reaching number 26 on the US Mainstream Rock chart.  It was the first RHCP song to chart.Bad Love by Eric ClaptonBruce brings us the second single from Clapton's eleventh solo studio album.  This is a comeback album, as Clapton had recently become sober after dealing with alcoholism.  It hit number 16 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.  This song features Phil Collins on percussion and backing vocals.  and would be awarded the Grammy for Best male Rock Vocal Performance in 1990. Good Work by the BoDeansWayne features a rockabilly party song from a Wisconsin group.  The BoDeans have been called roots rock, heartland rock, and alternative, but their retro 50's sound and driving live performance makes them a great band to see.  They performed extensively with U2 on The Joshua Tree tour, and remain popular in the US Midwest. The Last Worthless Evening by Don HenleyLynch closes out the staff picks with a hit from Henley's album "The End of the Innocence" that went to number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.  The lyrics are a plea from an ex to just move on.   INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Pacific 202 by 808 StateThis Manchester electronic music group takes its name from the Roland TR 808 drum machine.

Damn right, I'm doing my "White Zombie" episode just before Halloween! I never had too much of a plan for when I was going to produce this one, because I knew it would be another massive undertaking as well as another "way more history of the band than the movie" situation. If this is your first episode of the show, WELCOME! I want you to know this is probably the coolest band that ever existed for me. I've been bonkers over them since my best friend Eli let me borrow his cassette of "La Sexorcisto" back in 1992. I genuinely did not understand why everyone in the universe did not love this band as much as I did from 92-98. Here's what we'll cover today:  Sean's early years in ballet and art classes, as well as an amazing summary of her WZ career after the fact (more on her musical influence on the band next episode) The beginning and ending of Sean's relationship with Rob Rob's early entertainment influences and work on “Pee-Wee's Playhouse” Jay's tales of the NYC recording of La Sexorcisto, how he managed to not starve, and Ivan De Prume getting paid fifty bucks to do a drum roll for Savatage Bela Lugosi's emigration from Hungary to New Orleans and up northward to Broadway, and westard to Hollywood The horrific violence after WW1 that forced Bela out of his home country - The Red Terror vs The White Terror, 1917-1919 The many themes and tropes of the “White Zombie” film that resonated with American audiences in 1932 A 1990 interview with Rob from a black & white zine Sean's relationship with Al Jourgensen, and his supposed, alleged, confrontation with Rob that maybe totally might have partially happened A 1994 guitar extravaganza featuring Jay Yuenger and John Christ of Danzig featuring my very professional voice acting And WAY MORE of course, because you can see the running time of this thing is bloated and engorged like any decent Soul Crushing Psycho-Head Blowout in Pig Heaven should be!  And this, my friends, is only part ONE. UNO. EIN. UNE. WAHID. UNA. IKA. BIR. Get Sean's book and other stuff here My source for J's narrative, his old blog. Squarespace will honor existing customer pricing for at least 12 months following the completion of the purchase. It will also use Google's infrastructure to ensure a "seamless transfer of domains." For existing customers, Squarespace will provide billing and support for Google Workspace customers who've already purchased domains through Google Domains. However, as time goes on and as subscriptions start to renew, these customers will likely be forced to migrate to Squarespace's billing system. The acquisition is not surprising, as Squarespace is already a behemoth in the websites and domain space. The lawsuit, filed by the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA), claims that Twitter has "routinely ignored" requests for takedowns and that it is one of the only major social media platforms that does not have licensing agreements in place with music publishers. The NMPA also alleges that Twitter is less likely to take action against verified accounts that share copyrighted music, even though these accounts often have large follower bases. If the lawsuit is successful, it could force Twitter to pay out millions of dollars in damages and could also lead to changes in the way the company handles copyright infringement.https://www.engadget.com/music-publishers-are-suing-twitter-for-250-million-over-massive-copyright-infringement-082421118.html SuggestsResident Evil… ANY OF THEM!Comic Books/BooksTrailersX-Men Hellfire Club - https://youtu.be/9akSSU1_Ftg the book that will kick off the Fall of X arc hits shelves July 26th.Reg ‘ol NewsEnergon - Transformers and GI Joe shared universe. Coming up this week at Emo's, an evening of electronic and industrial music innovators. The AMM is all over it. Chicago would become a major ska town in the 90s as the home of Jump Up Records, Slapstick, and Fireside Bowl. But before any of this took off, there was Heavy Manners, a Chicago ska/reggae band that formed in 1980. Within a few years, Heavy Manners were the biggest band (of any genre) in town, but they weren't able to create the same kind of passionate following outside of Chicago. So, in 1984, they threw in the towel. Today we speak to Heavy Manners lead singer Kate Fagan. Before forming the band, she released the underground hit single, "I Don't Wanna Be Too Cool," which has become a sought-after punk collector's item. On Feb 24, 2023, Captured Tracks Records put out a long-awaited reissue of "I Don't Wanna Be Too Cool," along with several previously unreleased Kate Fagan tracks. We talked about Heavy Manners and Kate's work with Rock Against Racism in Chicago. (She once booked Patti Smith at an event!). We talk about Heavy Manners getting to open for The Clash, The English Beat and Peter Tosh--they eventually cut some tracks with Tosh and Bob Marley's engineer Dennis Thompson. And we talk about some of Heavy Manners' famous fans like filmmaker John Hughes, actor John Cusack, and Ministry's frontman Al Jourgensen. We also talk about Chicago's overall music scene in the 70s and 80s, Kate's musical, The Kissing Concept, and discuss some great non-religious Christmas songs. Lots of opinions!  Support the show

“The Last Mile” The Scottish-born Chris Connelly got his start with the electronic outfit Finitribe. Championed by John Peel, the inventive band did a long and harrowing UK in '88 and so arduous that tour was, it led to the shedding of three members, including Connelly, who left for the U.S. and landed in Chicago, where he fell in with the Revolting Cocks and Ministry. Connelly had hung out with the latter's Al Jourgensen in London so he knew him a bit, but once Connelly hit the states, he really immersed himself in the Wax Trax-powered industrial scene. Over the course of his career, Connelly has been affiliated with Pigface, Ministry, The Revolting Cocks, Die Warzau, Acid Horse, KMFDM, The Joy Thieves, PTP and The Damage Manual. And my friends, that's a partial list. His almost thirty album-long solo discography is a knockout, containing classic albums like Whiplash Boychild Shipwreck and Graveyard Sex. His newest effort Eulogy To Christa is a moving, stirring and deeply satisfying homage to Nico. Comprised of covers and original compositions, Eulogy To Christa is a heartfelt tribute to a fascinating artist. www.chrisconnelly.com www.bombshellradio.com Stereo Embers The Podcast www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.alexgreenonline.com IG: @emberspodcast

you know the saying, “The Gerard Cosloy Radio Hour That Feels Like Two Hours Is For The  Children”?  No, I cannot say I have ever heard it before either, but in light of Big Thief's invitation to educators (BRING KIDS TO SOUNDCHECK - GENIUS STUFF) I am extended a similar invite to school classes, youth groups, church outings, etc. to observe THIS PROGRAM's preparation and production.  I believe it was Al Jourgensen who said "a (creative) mind is terrible thing to taste" though chances are he meant "waste" and no one in his inner circle had the guts to point out the error.  However, my point is rather simple --- by observing the creative process up close, DEMYSTIFYING the podcast machinations (which are so very difficult, hardly anyone can figure it out), I am perhaps ensuring a future generation grows up with some modicum of inspiration.  If I can help just one young person to avoid ending up like Al Jourgensen, it will all have been worth it (though given all the time and hassle, I would really prefer it be at least a half dozen young people avoiding ending up like Al Jourgensen).

Surgical Meth Machine is an industrial metal album by Al Jourgensen's project of the same name. It was released on April 15, 2016. The album was conceived by Jourgensen and engineer Sam D'Ambruoso as a tribute to the late guitarist Mike Scaccia, who Jourgensen called "probably the best shredder guitar player who walked this planet" – to this end, the project was planned to resemble the song "Side FX Include Mikey's Middle Finger (TV 4)" from From Beer to Eternity, with all songs clocking over at least 220 beats per minute. The project changed direction, however, when Jourgensen moved from Texas to California and got a medical marijuana card; according to Jourgensen, after this, "the record seemed to slow down considerably". ministryband.com/smm
